Imagine you're a cop, or a detective, or otherwise involved in law enforcement. You have to be on your guard all the time, in charge, and having a personal life of any kind is probably somewhere between difficult and impossible. In this story, four men have taken a unique approach to these problems. Their solution is secret get-togethers, once a quarter, where they can relax and catch up with themselves and each other. Friends since the academy, they trust each other implicitly. The unique "twist" to their pretty unique relationship is that one of the four gets to submit each time, having the other three's focus on him for an entire weekend. Since none of them submit easily (or would do so voluntarily, I suspect) they draw straws.
This novella focuses on one such weekend among many and describes some of the dynamics going on when four men get together, making one their sub. But beyond the purely physical aspects of such an arrangement (which are insanely hot!), there is more. What I found as I read the story was some real emotional involvement as well. I wouldn't exactly call it "romantic" because there were no hints as to the details, but based on what I saw here, I'd say it is entirely possible. Not that any of these guys would freely admit it...
While each man has definite characteristics, the focus, as the title indicates, is on Erik. He is a detective, as ambitious as the rest of them, and particularly resistant to submitting. He hasn’t drawn the short straw in over two years, and when he does, he is shocked. The other three men know the weekend will be good for Eric, but Erik himself has severe doubts and resists as hard as he can. A spanking or two, some play with sounds and a flogger later, and he's with the program. But this story isn’t all about the BDSM scenes they play, the emotions that go with it are equally important. It surprised and totally delighted me, since I find the psychology of what goes on in each man's head at least as interesting as the physical hotness.
If you're looking for tough cops being made to submit by their best friends and lovers - and liking it, if you enjoy stories with lots of man-on-man-on-man-on-man action, and if you're looking for a read that is hot and touching as the men reveal their vulnerabilities, then you will probably like this novella. For my part, I hope there will be a full novel about these four guys; there is certainly enough potential here for some really interesting developments in the future!

Alright. There is some sexy menage a quatre going on here. Take four hot alpha cops and make one sub for the weekend. Sounds like a dreamy set-up, and it is. They do some spanking, some stuffing, some loving and possessing--just owning Erik. But, then there's the tempting and teasing. Talk of sounds and piercing and yummies galore, and what becomes of that you ask?
ONE sentence of exposition and the scene, the big scene I was getting all hot and bothered about is reduced to one sad, dismissive sentence. *deep sigh* Not fair!
So, it's a 3 star Michael's read, but out of petty vindictiveness I'm taking one of them back because that scene was taken back! :P

Four cops have a pact for many years to get together regularly, lower their guards & feel safe enough to let go and unwind. Planting seeds for other books in the series. A bit annoyed that there were mentions of some tantalizing sexy bits that ending up happening behind the scenes. Boo!! Gave just enough to tempt me to read on....

Nothing like a group of best friends getting together to let off some steam drawn straw style. I loved the random aspect of who would be the sub. Takes me back to when I was young and far more adventurous. The smut was spot on and hawt af! These guys focused on Erik and getting him to a better place by the time their weekend was over.

Basically porn...and hey, that's great, don't mind that at all, hell, that's what I was looking for....and a lot of it was pretty hot.
There was a hint...just a hint, that I would have loved to see Tork and Erik would make a good story, outside of the porn. But, the story never came. Once again, I'm fine with that too...I wasn't really looking for a love story, but I did start to wish for a little bit of one for Tork and Erik.
So, why only 2 stars? It should be a 3...but they completely skipped right over the best part! The best damn part was off page. Now, a Erik Tork story could have made up for that, but without either one...I dropped a star.
Still, I think at some point I'll read the next book. But I'm not rushing out to start it.

These four men. care about each other so much. Each is strong and even when subbing the bottom still remains strong. They all seem to need each other and you can see there is still more between this group. Can't wait to read more.

wasnt bad but definitely not my favourite by far from Sean Michael.
Basically 4 friends/hot men get together a couple of times a year to unwind, catch up and have sex. It's as simple as that. it's not as graphic or heavily erotic as you'd think

I just read this whole series and I'm conflicted in many ways about how to rate this(I wish it was one book), but what I believe I take away from this, more than any negative I have, is that these 4 men genuinely love each other and it was so lovely to read about sexy cops and how they care, nurture, protect and love each other without jealousy throughout the 4 books to their HEA. And I say don't disregard the series because the first book is a little lacking on plot- by the third book I had tears in my eyes and loved everyone of these men.
That being said the first book is pretty "plot free" and sex heavy- 4 long time friends get together 4 times a year for a no holds barred sex weekend, with them drawing straws to see who "subs".
The sub in this instance is the person who they will lavish their sexual needs on all weekend- and will definitely bottom. That's not to say the others won't engage in acts together but just that the sub is a position of care and affection for the group and will garner most of the attention- which doesn't sound that bad really. They have sex a multiple of ways and positions with toys and each other.
This first book unfortunately reads a bit like PWP and there are a couple of instances where some hot sex acts are thrown about like red herrings and we never get to read them on page(one of the reasons for only being 3 stars). Which is unfortunate because I think a lot of people will skip the rest of the series thinking it's just mindless sex without a payoff and whilst there is a lot of sex-because we only see these men at their quarterly sex weekend so of course there is going to be loads of sex, the second book really shows the men in a different light and the third book, OMG, is really beautiful because it shows the men responding to one of their own unable to participate in their activities due to cancer treatment and what it's done to his body. How they include him and care for him is just amazing and something I've never read before. That plot line turned this series around because instead of just a sex book it became a real romance between 4 men.
And no, it wasn't perfect. I wanted to know more about their lives than what we were told but I still liked this series for what it is.
So this book is a 3 star. The 2nd and 4th are 4 stars. And the 3rd book is a definite 5 star!!!

3.3 stars. A MMMM erotica about how four men getting along well and having sex in perfect harmony. Originally I thought given that so many men involved, there would be some kind of creative, unheard techniques, with or without bdsm elements, but as it turns out, it's more about they are all happy and satisfied in this relationship. Not that I complain, but it just isn't full of surprises as what I've expected.
I also want to see more about their distinct characteristics in the following books. I fail to make a distinction among the three except for Damon, the least muscular and the most subby one in appearance.

√While this had some pretty hot scenes, I'm still pretty new to M/M books & I'm discovering that what I'm really drawn to is the "Gay for You" sub-theme. It's the first time discovery and experience of a man's intense attraction to another man that I find exceedingly erotic. This book featured four gay men who have been "out" for years and have developed well-established sexual and romantic relationships with one another. While loving and sexy, it lacked the voyeuristic excitement I experience while witnessing the struggle and acceptance of a man's forbidden feelings for another man.

Mostly about the games and goings on of four men. Other than using these weekends where they draw to see who's the sub to relieve stress don't get a lot of outside story besides they are all cops.
Sounds were mentioned but the actual byplay was passed over. I think, perhaps the author isn't sure how to describe it? While some slightly rough play nothing near over the top is played upon. I did think it strange to start AND end with Tork. Is this to be significant? Have to wait and see.

Intriguing premise of 4 gay, male cops who meet every three months for a weekend of kinky sex, with one of them bottoming for the other three. They choose by drawing straws, thus the title. A quick read, I liked the characters, though the writing was a bit simplistic and repetitive at times. 3 stars.

Interesting dynamics between the four - it's a short story, so there's only limited development and it kind of felt like nobody got enough "screen" time. Not as steamy as I'd expected either, given that there are FOUR HOT STUDS. Overall, great premise but i just wish there had been more.

There is a hard book to rate. The writing is good, the editing is good, it's just so short and lacks real storyline. I liked what I read, but there just wasn't much of it. Will continue to read the series but it is just a light sexy read.
