Jenna Lancaster believes attending college is the only way to escape her past and a childhood of abuse. Over the years, she’s developed a unique coping mechanism—the power to forget. Until Jenna’s lapses of memory start to intrude into her everyday life.

After meeting Landon Steward at a party one night, there’s no denying their instant connection. But when Jenna meets Landon years later, she has no memory of him or their one passionate night together. What she doesn’t realize is that Landon has some troubling secrets of his own.

Landon is certain that there’s a reason Jenna has come back into his life and that this haunted young woman needs to be saved as much as he does. They soon find themselves bound together in a turbulent relationship, fighting to overcome their tormenting pasts filled with heartache.

Yet once Jenna’s suppressed memories resurface, she’s forced to find the courage within herself to finally confront her abusers and take back her life.

Surviving was an interesting read, even though it took a few chapters to relate to the main characters. The first few chapters switched from past to present, they switched POV between Jenna and Landon, and showed how both characters had met before. Lanodn had never forgotten that night, but Jenna’s memory is trained to forget.

The book starts out slowly, with Jenna and Landon meeting each other again after spending a night together years ago. Landon feels attracted to this mysterious woman, who can make him feel a thousand things no other woman has ever made him feel before. Jenna is always a bit hesitant, reluctant. Not that she doesn’t like Landon, but almost as if she’s afraid of something. They start spending time together, and the relationship between them grows.

Things got interesting when we start to figure out more about Jenna’s past, and when a madman starts chasing her. The secrets, mystery and suspense, was what really pulled me into the novel, and I wouldn’t have minded had the suspense started picking up a bit sooner.

The writing was okay, the plot was intriguing, especially toward the last half of the book, and the characters were interesting. I liked Jenna more than Landon, mostly because of his history with women. I’m not too fond of guys who can only threat one woman respectfully, and with Landon it seems the only woman he’s decent to, is Jenna.

A good read for people who like romantic suspense with a bit of a darker side.

I loved the premises but the delivery not so much. Too much of everything. Lots of drama, lots of confusion. I love mystery but I felt like I was getting whiplash. There was too much internal repetitive dialogue. I skimmed that probably too often. But when it was repeat and rinse.. I lose interest. The heroine went from panic attacks, seeing her crush kiss someone else, to being a confident woman in the end?! I honestly was salivating over the hero at first. I love crazy over the top heroes but he kept walking out on her at the worst times. He was never leaving her but when dealing with this insecure of a woman I was lost at his behavior. He would act mad and leave or say I need some space and leave. But over nothing or the worst times. Example: heroine almost died and was in the hospital. He complains he failed to protect her and just leaves. He knows the bad guys are still out there and leaves no bodyguard to watch over her. He never did leave the hospital but then he can't see thru walls either. No surprise when she is taken again. But she feels safe with him. I have no clue why when he was walking out when she needed him the most all the time. Yet she trusted him!? Things didn't feel very real and everything was over the top. But I did finish it and may have been more positive if the internal dialogue had been less!

This was a great story.
Jenna's mind forgot as a defense mechanism. Someone wants to make sure she never remembers. Landon can't forget but only knows her name. When they meet again will Landon be able to help her put the pieces together and if he does, will he lose her forever?
Honestly it took me a few chapters to get used to the author's writing style but once I did it was a great story. I will be looking for more titles by Ms. Sprague. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good book.

Had a lot of potential for a really great story, but was a bit all over the place.
