Spiked with a blue pill. Out cold for long time. Days spent sparko. When you come round you’re different. Full on ramped up grey cells maxed. Genius. But blud, trying to dig up an ultra famous corpse was maybe a bit too clever. . . "Kiss My ASBO" is a crackling drama of underclass, urban youth. Given an experimental drug by an ex-military relative, its lead character finds himself evolving new mental skills and insights to aid survival in an environment and society in which he previously felt unwelcome. Pushing the boundaries of language and offering a fresh perspective, this innovative debut novel is sink-estate 'grime fiction'.
Alistair Fruish is an English filmmaker, writer and novelist.
From 2001 Fruish has worked in over 40 prisons as a writer-in-residence. Since starting out at HMP Wellingborough he has worked as a writer in nearly every category and type of English prison, in both the public and private sectors and both male and female estate. With HMP Full Sutton's writer-in-residence Gerry Ryan, he initiated the first ever writer led arts project at the Military Corrective Training Centre (MCTC) military prison in Colchester. He is currently based in HMP Leicester where he works closely with Senior Community Librarian Louise Dowell. He has collaborated with a number of other artists on prison arts projects including Dr Bruce Wall of the London Shakespeare Workout and poet John Row. Fruish is dyslexic and was drawn to work with prisoners because of the large levels of literacy problems found among the prison population.
