Mm mm mm. Miss Leila Matthews. This book … this book.

The Characters:

Isabella is the daughter of a man who doesn’t deserve to have children. A 24 year old women who lost her mother and her father spiraled into an obsessive gambler. Gambling away his fortune and Isabella’s when his well ran dry. To pay his debts, he forces her into a marriage with a heinous man. She has nothing and only has 1 friend who has her back.

Damien is the older brother of said heinous husband. He rules the family and the underworld. Everyone knows his name and knows not to mess with the Blackhart family. His family is woven with secrets, lies, and deceit. None of which Damien is privy to.

My opinion:

I wanted so much more spice, but got so much more amazing plot instead, and I’m not even mad!

The twists and turns had me lightly perspiring. I was angry, anxious, nervous, happy, then angry again. 😂 I wanted to jump into the book and fight for her and take out all of the threats alongside her.

I do wish there was less conflict with so many characters. It was starting to get hard to track toward the end. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it got a little busy for me.

I also wished Isabella still held onto the strong FMC role she carried with Jackson. I was all for the abused woman coming out strong, but maybe that’s because her story was similar to my own.

All around, I thought it was a great book! If Maggie and XYZ and Seraphina and XYZ don’t bet books, I might cry 😂

This started out fine and I was interested to see how the FMC, Isabella, would navigate the awful turn of events in her life. She stood up defiantly against an abuser and remained strong despite an unimaginable situation.

I really like her character until the MMC, Damien, actually entered Isabella’s life. Then it felt like her character just got assassinated 😩 Suddenly, she became this submissive girl who easily folds with just one word from Damien. However, I adored Seraphina, the FMC’s best friend, because she seemed to be the only sensible person around.

The entire conflict just didn’t resonate with me, it seems a little too manufactured, since I just couldn’t get into so many different character’s motivations. I guess overall, I just didn’t enjoy it and this book just wasn’t for me.

If you are into fast-paced romance, pregnancy trope, no-frills mafia romance, then this might be for you.

What a great read! This is my first mafia romance and it definitely won’t be my last.

This book had me hooked from the beginning. The story is captivating and has you on an emotional roller coaster - a good one of course. I found myself reading and reading without being able to put it down.

Isabella and Damian had fire. There is nothing I enjoy more than a MMC who obsesses over the FMC. This book was perfect for that!

I can’t wait to read more! I’d love a book on Julian or Victor!

Superbly written story with outstanding character that’s a great page turner. This story has suspense, intrigue, thrill, action and spicy steamy romance which brings this story a happily ever after ending.
A story about a woman and a mafia boss for his family are brought together through a series of events. These events at first separate them but by the end they are brought together by the electric spark they feel everytime they touch.
The mafia family only knew what the brother told them about his new wife, that she was a socialite gold digger but he never told them that she was forced into the marriage by her father and that she was nothing like what he said she was that she was a kind person that put with him by greed. The brother was abusive to her but she was forced to hide the bruises to be seen but not heard. The brother was a reckless character; he was so out of control that his brother, the mafia boss, had to beat him so that an ally wouldn’t go to war with them due to him killing their son in a fit of rage. Most of the time the brother left the woman alone due to the fact that he would sleep with other women but he forced her to sleep in his bed even though it was only for his amusement. The brother was poisoned at a party that he was throwing in his mansion. The mafia boss vowed to find his killer. After the funeral the woman left the mansion not wanting anymore to do with the place or the family that came with it so she moved back to the house she grew up in.
The mafia boss had everyone come in who dealt with his brother as well as the woman’s best friend who is also the daughter of his rival. The mafia boss decided that the woman was the one who poisoned his brother and had his men go after her. The best friend got to her first and gave her the means to get away, she ran to a small town where she changed her name and got a job but her past caught up with her and the mafia boss’s men found her. The woman was stripped and handcuffed to the ceiling before she was cut and beaten by the mafia boss, his second and his men. After he talked to an underworld boss that knew everything that went on in the city, he realized that the woman didn’t do it and that his brother was planning on killing him. The mafia boss has the woman sent to his home where she was given a room so she could get cleaned up, dress and sleep as well as eat. The mafia boss apologized for what he did to her but the woman has gone through too much so she didn’t accept the apology. An electric charge was between them and the two kissed but the woman couldn’t let the feeling that she has been having for the mafia boss lead to anything especially after what he and his family put her through so she left and headed back to the small town and her job.
The mafia boss felt the electricity between them and he knew that she was his, he has felt something ever since they first met. He had one of his men go to the small town to keep guard over her until he could win her back as well as get to the bottom of who poisoned his brother. Everything was going well for the woman until she noticed a figure in the window of the diner she worked at and that night while she was in bed she heard a noise in her apartment an intruder was in her apartment, she fought the intruder but then a man she knew from the diner came and shot the intruder. The woman passed out and the man took her back to the mafia boss.
The woman woke up and figured out where she was, when the mafia boss came to talk to her they argued before they knew it they were in each other's arms kissing. By the time everything was said and done they had sex several times. She agreed to stay but she wanted her own room, the mafia boss wound up finding out what his brother did to her and how she was forced into marrying him. The mafia boss made it clear that she wasn’t his captive and that he wanted them to be together. She went to visit her best friend, they were to meet at a bookstore/cafe and the man who saved her in the small town was now her bodyguard. The two friends were talking when gunfire rang out and the bodyguard had the two friends down on the floor. The woman was grazed by a bullet and once the mafia boss got there with his second and some of his men they took her to the hospital. He was beside himself with worry while he waited for word about the woman and when the doctor came he informed the mafia boss that she was alright and that the woman was pregnant. The mafia boss went to her room where they talked, he was so happy and the woman’s walls around her heart started to fall. They two decided to get married so that her and their unborn baby would be under his care and that no one could go after her. The mafia man made the plans and called his second to have him make sure it was carried out, he decided that later they would have the real wedding with everything she would want to have but for now this would have to do. They got married and the mafia boss’s family was the only ones there.
The couple go to her first check up together and they find out that the baby as well as the woman seem to be doing well. The mafia boss with his second go tends to a shipment of guns but is ambushed when they get there, his rival killed his men and wants to kill him but the two men wind up getting out alive, he was shot and cut but he is still alive.
It’s no time before his legitimate business’s gala comes around and the whole family goes. The couple mingle with the guest before they sit at the table and he goes to speak about their charity to impoverished youth. The woman needs to go to the restroom and even though the sister still hates her to the restroom. The sister has words for her and the woman goes into the restroom to tend to her business and after leaving the restroom she’s attacked. The mafia boss rushes to her and they leave the gala. He vows that he will protect her and their unborn baby at any cost.
The mafia boss and his second with some men go to his rival’s stronghold to get rid of his rival once and for all. The mafia boss’s men and the rival’s men clash and soon the mafia boss finds his rival, they have a few words before the mafia boss kills him. The mafia boss decides he will go after the gang that was told to him to also be a threat the him and his wife.
The couple argue when he tells her about staying with his mother but she goes even though she really doesn’t want to leave his side. The couple are getting closer and each one has deep feelings for the other even though the only one that has said anything is the mafia boss, she’s still a bit scared to let all of her walls down but there’s not many that are up. The woman goes with him to his mother and when they get there his mother as well as his sister is there soon her best friend is there with his second. They are taken to the theater room where they are given snacks. The mafia boss kisses her before leaves. A while after the mafia boss and the second leave a place shakes and the sound of gunfire rings in the air, the bodyguard comes to them and starts to take them towards the basement but while he returns fire something hits the woman’s best friend and while the woman tries to wake her a man comes for her, she tries to get away as well as to carry her best friend but she’s hit in the head and blacks out.
The two best friends wake up in a room where they are tied to chairs. Not long after they wake up, the sister walks in as well as the woman’s dad. The sister and the dad start informing them about their plans and the woman can only laugh at the two that hold them captive. They have no clue about her husband and what he’s capable of and without her by his side to calm him down he will turn into a beast that neither wants to see.
The mafia boss and his second race back to his mother’s place, the mafia boss didn’t figure it out until the last moment that they got bad intel. When they get to his mother’s it looks like a war zone with bodies everywhere and everything shot up. They go long for his wife and her best friend but they don’t find her. The mafia boss finds his mother dead and next to her a note written in blood. He has men to come and clean the place up and he informs his second to get more men and weapons to meet him at the warehouse and to pull up the tracker information on his wife's wedding ring. The mafia boss runs to the underworld boss informing him that his sister was taken with his wife, they talk before the mafia boss leaves. They all meet in the warehouse. The mafia boss, his second with his men as well as the underworld boss with his men. They all get what weapons they need and the mafia boss checks his men and their weapons over before they leave to go to the location that the tracker tells them to go. Once there the split up into two groups as well as having sharp shooter stations around the perimeter, one group under the second will go to the back to cause a distraction while the other group goes through the front. The groups move out and they get into the house that the tracker pointed them into, they make it to the second floor when they start getting shot at heavily but after the mafia boss throws a grenade at the enemy they are able to get threw but he gets hit and he and the one who hit him fall through the hole that the grenade made all the way down to the basement. Once the mafia boss gets his senses back he figures out that it’s the leader of the gang he’s after. The two have words and start fighting. The gang leader thinks he has the upper hand but the mafia boss winds up killing him instead.
The mafia boss and the second find the room that the two women are being held in, they kill the men at the door. The mafia boss notices his sister and goes to her only to have his wife tell him the truth about his sister. The woman is untied but before she can move her father is there going off about her messing everything up. Before can do anything he’s killed. While everything is going one the sister grabs the woman’s hair and a man who untied the best friend goes after her but she kills him. The sister uses the woman as cover before she demands her to kill her husband. The woman at the end turns the table on the sister, killing her.
Everything is better now that the ordeal is over and the couple is happy, they have sex alot and he goes back to work at his legal business. The mafia boss gets home at a normal hour and eats with his wife and they have their nights together. One early morning they are asleep when the woman screams out in pain waking up her husband. He gathers everything together before leaving but he leaves behind his wife. He comes back for her and he drives fast to get to the hospital. When they get there hours go by before she has their baby, a daughter.
Their daughter’s fifth birthday is coming very soon and even though the mafia boss doesn’t want to have a party this year his daughter gets what she wants. The couple have been discussing having another child so that their daughter won’t be alone. The day of her party comes, everything is ready for the party. The woman’s best friend comes with a bunch of gifts as well as the second. The woman notices her best friend and the second talking and decides to talk to her about it later. The underworld boss comes with a gift for their daughter. They have cake as well as the daughter opening up her gifts. The boss that she had comes to the party along with a woman she worked with at the diner. The woman’s old boss and her talk, afterwards she notices the underworld boss go to the woman she worked with.
The couple catches one another with their eyes from across the room. They are happy and in love with each other. They both built a life with one another and stuck together through the good and bad times.

So I did enjoy reading TIV. It was a good, quick read, but I did find some issues, mainly stemming with continuity, timeline, and “realness” I guess. The author kept bouncing between past tense and present tense so that was a tad confusing. There were some grammar issues as well, but seeing as it’s an arc, that’s to be expected.

Seeing Isabella fight Jackson the entire way through their marriage (which lasted how long? Idk but Isabella said it was a long time, but we aren’t told how long) and fight to stay herself was nice, but once Jackson dies she loses that part of herself and is wanting to just do what Damien wants.

The timeline was super confusing. Things were happening one after the other but there was no showing that time had passed. Damien is on scene of XYZ talking to his men and next thing we know he’s breaking a door down. Isabella is doing XYZ with a friend and then she’s suddenly getting kidnapped. With that said, continuity issues play a big role here too with timeline. Things happened, but we were never told they happened, which led me to go back several pages to make sure I didn’t miss things. For example, Isabella traveling to the tiny town she spends a couple months in.

Isabella’s pregnancy just didn’t seem super realistic imo, especially up to the point where she went into labor.

I didn’t feel like there were any real stakes. The blurb focuses on Damien wanting Isabella dead, but that’s maybe 2% of the plot. Once he finds out Isabella is innocent of what he’s accusing her of, he goes straight into wanting her for himself and the whole Hawthornes/Nightingales plot came out of left field so like I said, there wasn’t really any real stakes, even once Isabella got kidnapped with Seraphina.

So it was a good read, absolutely yes. But I feel like it could’ve been better.

This book had me feeling like there was something that I was missing for most of the book until the secrets were exposed near the end of the book. I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster throughout this busy storyline. I felt disgusted by the chapters including Jackson, but I was glad he was only in the beginning of the book. Damien however brought many different emotions. He was a possessive mmc with the touch her and you die vibe. After seeing her for the first time he felt drawn to her even when she was not his for the taking. However I felt like the mfc Isabella got over her hiccups with Damien really fast. She started as this fiery young woman with her independence and then she gets married off by her father to the Blackheart family. After her first marriage briefly ended and she ran away, she kept her fight. But as soon as Damien showed her a glimpse of the life she could have with him instead, she seemed to have switched to a bit of a submissive and vulnerable role. I was happy that she brought back the fire at the end to protect her husband, child and best friend.

There were bread crumbs that could lead to other books that I would be ready to read based on how this book was written. This was content heavy with many plot twists. There was a good amount of spice but nothing too graphic was described. I am glad that they got their happily ever-after.

I had the privilege to read an arc of this book. I rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. (I rounded up) I really enjoyed it. The author did great with detail!

FMC Isabella is forced into a marriage due to a situation with her father. Even though she isn’t happy about it, she ends up deciding to put on a brave face and endure it.

MMC Damien is a billionaire and a mobster. He does his best to keep his dealings out of the spotlight. He is not happy when Isabella comes into the family. He feels like his brother is just causing trouble for not only him but the entire family. Also he assumes the worse about Isabella.

Isabella and Damien’s love is intense yet sweet! Like all relationships they have their ups and downs.

I was fangirling for so many reasons by the end of this book! I have a feeling you guys will be too!

This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster (in a good way!)

Our FMC Isabella was forced into an arranged marriage with the MMC's brother (thanks to her dad owing their family a debt). Jackson wasn't the best husband to her, she suffered a lot of abuse by his hands. My heart really broke for Isabella through this time. But one day, Jackson mysteriously dies and his brother (Damien) thinks she killed him to escape her abusive marriage. This starts the beginning of a really intense time between Damien and Isabella.

My thoughts: It was an intense read (in a good way). I loved the many plot twists that I didn't see coming. It had my anxiety going through the roof on some parts, happy at others and like DAMN through it too. It was more heavy in plot than spice, which was a refreshing read for me. As much as I love the smutty spice in mafia books, I love good plots and storylines! With all that happened through this read, it was well written and didn't feel rushed at all to me. I still can't believe this is a DEBUT book?! Leila, you now have a forever fan! I can't wait to see what other books you write in the future! :)

Tangled in Vengeance is Leila Matthews debut novel and it is so well written. Isabella the FMC is forced to marry Jackson due to a debt her father owned his family. She is miserable and plotting to find a way to escape the loveless abusive relationship.
Damien is the MMC who also happens to be Jackson’s brother. He wasn’t happy with Jackson’s marriage to Isabella he felt it would hinder the family and their business.
When Jackson dies during a birthday dinner for their sister Damien believes Isabella is responsible.
The twists and turns makes this as much action packed as it is intense with Damien and Isabella’s love story. They can’t deny their magnetic pull towards each other. I can’t wait to see what more this author has in store for us.

Plot based dark mafia romance.

Fmc is forced to marry mmc's brother who is abusive. He convinces everyone that she's a money hungry socialite so everyone hates her. He beats her and he sleeps around. (I didn't think it was realistic to the story that he didn't rape her) But they never had sex because she refused to have sex with him.

One day he's poisoned and dies, and she's the main suspect. There's where the story really picked up with the mmc. He's always been attracted to her, but also hated her. There are a lot of plot twists and surprises, and side characters. Looking forward to reading more of this series.

Well first off, the sexual tension in this book was fantastic! I love the author's take on the "forced marriage/ Mafia romance" trope. And her writing style was really great too. But I was a little deflated when the FMC lost her will to stick up for herself. It was a little confusing going from strong to weak. However I really liked the MMC 🔥🫠 Once he realized he shouldn't be mad at her, it turned into "touch her and 💀".

Tangled in Vengeance was an enjoyable read that is a well written dark romance with a good balance of action and spice. The story follows Isabella, who ends up in an undesirable and abusive arranged marriage thanks to her fathers greed and debts. Although unhappy, she perseveres in the relationship until circumstances mean she is finally free…or so she thinks. From one horrid man to seemingly another, Isabella finds herself having attracted the interest of Damien, Jackson’s brother.
Would recommend to anyone that enjoys a dark romance with violence, a morally grey MMC and the twists and turns that come with this. Check the TWs before reading.

Isabella and Damien’s story. **Mind the Triggers** She’s innocent in all things dark happening within the worthy community she was raised in, that is until her mother dies and her fathers true colors begins to show. Sold off the pay a debt Isabella never imagined the twisted turn her life would take or that her abuser would be murdered and it be pinned on her. Tangled in a web of lies and used as a pawn she will find her salvation in the arms of the very person she wanted nothing to do with who would become her world. Spice level: 3.

This was a really enjoyed debut novel by Leila Matthews.

This story hooked me from just the blurb. The story captivated me and kept me going. There was so much plot, keeping me in the story with some highly enjoyable steamy scenes. The characters were strong leads, and I felt like I was on a roller-coaster ride the entire time waiting for all the secrets to be revealed.

This was written so well, and I can't wait to see what Leila comes out with next. I'd love to read stories on other characters from this book

Just finished reading this book today and really enjoyed it. I love a good mafia romance and this book hit the main things I like about them without being over the top. Possessive MMC, feisty FMC, turf war action, spicy bedroom scenes. The spice was well done and gave the book the dirty flavor it needed, but not so raunchy I’d be embarrassed to be caught reading it in public. I am really hoping for a book 2 soon, Victor and Julian both need a book!

Damien and Isabella's story was so good. Damien is the head of his family's mafia empire. Isabella is just a pawn for her dad to use and forced her to marry Jackson. He's Damien's brother and her abuser. When Jackson ends of dead, they believe she's responsible. So Damien takes her captive and tries to find out if she is guilty. Things change and he starts to see her differently. I can't wait to find out who's book is next!

The first book in the Sinfully Corrupt series is awesome. It’s a mafia, enemies to lovers, spicy romance. I could not put it down. It’s a fast paced, engaging roller coaster ride! You either love the characters or you hate them. (Some are despicable.). Damien and Isabelle have fiery chemistry. The mystery and suspense was heart pounding. This is a very good book and I look forward to reading the next in series.

This is a well written action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, drama, danger, suspense, intrigue, vengeance, secrets, forced marriage, forced proximity, opposites attract, lies, deceit, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to a twisted, and unpredictable, dark romance.

Strong concept, characters who are actually individually interesting and somespicy sizzle make this a fast and entertaining read. I did feel our FMC Isabella got lost in Damien’s shadow though, which irked me reading as I wanted her to re-emerge stronger and the “old her” she fought to preserve early on.

Isabella has been put through a lot. Being used as a pawn by her father, a punching bag by her late husband and a queen by Damien. It took a lot to get to a place of peace in her life. She feels like everyone is wanting to take it away from her. Damien will do what he has to to keep the love of his life safe and with him. He will do whatever he has to to make that happen.

I cannot express how good this book is. If you like Mafia stories with deep plots and danger around every corner you need to grab this one. Full of suspense page after page as the fight for both power and money causes a forced marriage and many battles. Can Isabella find her one true love and happiness in the chaos and bloodshed of finding out the truth? Or will it be her demise in the end?

What a deliciously dark mafia romance. I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were so very edgy and perfectly written. Plot was intriguing perfection and world building was expertly navigated. I'm offta read the next book of the series. Recommend.

This book flows at a good pace. Isabella was forced into an marriage that was less than ideal. She is thrust into a danger and tempted by lust for her enemy. I liked that even though this is a typical mafia romance that it was unique. This was an interesting story. I hope some side characters get their own books.

I love a book that sucks you into the story! Leila is a new author to me and I loved her book, it kept me wanting to know more. This was a really good dark romance book. The book doesn't go in the direction you think it is going to go in at the beginning and the twist and turns make it worth reading. I really enjoyed this story. Can't wait until the next one comes out.

This is Leila Matthews debut novel and it’s pretty good. It’s a mafia, enemies to lovers romance that reads pretty quickly. No big surprises or anything.
