Bold and fiercely opinionated American heiress Lucy Chartrand has proudly left a string of scandals in her wake on both sides of the Atlantic. Her matchmaking mother may long to secure her an aristocratic English husband, but Lucy is tired of being sought after for her family’s fortune. She longs for a life of independence and freedom, far from the glittering world of London ballrooms, and she’s finally put a plan in motion to make that happen.
Gareth Claremont, Earl of Rexingham, has only accompanied his wayward younger sister to a Yorkshire country house party to keep her out of trouble. As always, mayhem finds her. This time, in the form of a new friend, the gorgeous, thoroughly improper, utterly appalling hellion Miss Lucy Chartrand. Gareth intends to do everything he can to keep the ruinous influence of a wild hoyden like Miss Chartrand far from his impressionable sister.
But Lucy’s brilliant scheme goes hopelessly awry, and now there’s one tall, handsome prig standing between her and what she wants most. He finds everything about her infuriating. She finds everything about him insufferable. They’ll never suit regardless of what happened by mistake in the moonlight.
Or will they?Heat Scorching! Don't say you weren't warned.
USA TODAY bestselling author Scarlett Scott writes steamy Victorian and Regency historical romances with strong, intelligent heroines and sexy alpha heroes. She lives in Pennsylvania and Maryland with her Canadian husband, their adorable identical twins, a demanding diva dog, and one zany cat.
A lovely story with Lucy, an American lady, and Gareth, Earl of Rexingham. He was a bit of an arse to start with, but got better right at the end. It was frustrating for Lucy, for quite a long time. I'm loving this series so far. A rather enjoyable story. 5☆
I thoroughly missed a night's sleep over this story but it was definitely worth as it always is with Scarlett's books.
Gareth had never planned to remarry because his first marriage was a complete disaster until one night in the gardens of a house party where his honor is thrown away and he is going to have to marry the one woman he never thought to marry because she's an American.. But with that kiss she not only awakens his desires but his heart that he thought he had long since buried.
Lucy never wanted to marry especially anyone in the upper ton of society because that's something her mother has been forcing her to do for quite some time. What she wants to do is start a cosmetic business and be independent. But her plans are ruined when instead of kissing a footman in the garden she kisses an earl instead. And the earl ends up turning her world upside down.
These two are have completely different views of the world, he is stiff and all about the rules. She is all about being happy and not caring what others think about her.
What started out to be a simple marriage of convenience turns out to be a opposites attract no matter how hard he fights it, she isn't going to give in and his heart/body need her..
I thoroughly enjoyed this entire story from the beginning to the end.
I can't wait to read the next book in this incredible series.
I received this as a free advanced reader's copy in exchange for a voluntary review and this is purely based upon my own personal opinion and that of no one else.

Another brilliant romance from the author. I loved both Gareth & Lucy, the chemistry between them sizzled, their banter was a delight & they both deserved to find love. Gareth was a widower & had closed his heart off but Lucy was determined to knock down those walls. There was humour & in the end grovelling plus an absolute delight of a dog. I always start one of the author’s books thinking it can’t be as good as the last & she always pushes the goalposts even higher. I highly recommend it My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I really enjoyed Lucy and Gareth. He was so damaged and she was a headstrong American heiress bent on being a self made Cosmetic Queen by building her own empire. But her best made plans backfired on her and she ruined herself quite by mistake with Gareth. Unbeknownst to Lucy that he would be honor bound to marry her. Breaking through his damaged heart would prove daunting after the honor bound marriage. She was determined to make it a success now that the deed was done. He didn’t know how. But their unbelievably hot attraction and need for each other surpassed anything that could pull them apart. Five stars for hot sex! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the fourth book of the series, but. If you haven't read the previous books, I don't think you'll be lost.
American heiress and hoyden Lucy Chartrand is determined to take herself off the marriage by letting herself be ruined at the country house party hosted for The Ladies Suffrage Society.
Gareth Claremont has a spot of insomnia and is walking through the hedge maze when Lucy throws herself at him, thinking he’s the footman she planned on ruining herself with. Things get spicy from there.
Stillwaters run deep. Gareth is all prim and proper on the surface, but he hides a robust carnal appetite. His deceased first wife found his nature to be depraved, and he carries a lot of shame as a result.
He feels honor-bound to marry Lucy, who, of course, wants no part of that.
This is another beautiful, spicy story from Scarlett Scott, even more spicy than others. I enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading the next novel in the series.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Gareth and Lucy are a real great couple, I loved reading their story. They had such passion and they clicked together so well , it made for a brilliant story.
This was a wonderfully written book by Scarlett and I recommend reading it.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
- Lucy Chartrand, American heiress - Gareth, Earl of Rexingham - Bette, Gareth’s sister - Anthea, Gareth’s deceased wife - Hercules, the bacon eating pug
Scarlett Scott can certainly write her characters with depth and backstory for days and she makes their angst so believable that feel your own heart breaking for them. And so it was for Lucy and Gareth. Gareth has all kinds of past pain (he is a widower who went through a horrible first marriage experience and doesn’t want to repeat it) that he can’t seem to get beyond to be able to live his best life and that is what Lucy is looking for from him. Lucy is a strong, smart, capable American heiress who believes she doesn’t need a man to fulfill her life (and maybe she doesn’t) but she falls hard for Gareth. The side characters are wonderful (Bette, Melinda and especially Hercules, the bacon-eating pug) and add a certain additional layer to our main characters. I was really looking forward to Lucy’s story and Scarlett did not disappoint!! It is a wonderful, spiiicy, angst driven, heartwarming story that was a little short but the story is complete and left (as always) wanting more after the beautiful epilogue! Brava Scarlett!! Brava!! 🌹🌹 🔥🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️📚📚⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Once again Scarlett Scott has me completely in her grasp with a story of pure unadulterated longing after “I do”. Normally, the vows occur slightly before the happily ever after, unless they were precipitated by scandal. A marriage of convenience simply is inconvenient when one finds themself impassioned by the very sight of their bride. Gareth is a man with a tragic past, a former marriage that would scar anyone. Being forsaken for opium is enough to leave anyone with low self-esteem and crippling doubts. Hence his avoidance of feelings, which is almost laughable considering how he clearly ‘feels’ for his new wife. Lucy is every bit the American Firebrand he calls her, she is not afraid of scandal (hence her newly married state) and she most definitely is not afraid to feel. Both of these characters practically leapt off the page, so memorable and lovable. With Gareth you either wanted to reach into the book and strangle him or pull him close and tell him everything would be alright. And Lucy you wanted as your new best friend. This story is angsty, passionate and full of longing.
Protective gear also keeps you in and love out! This is definitely the case with Gareth and Lucy! Lucy is sick of being paraded in front of English Lords because her mother desired a title for her brash American daughters! An over zealous mother and indifferent father there definitely could be worse for Lucy! But running into a man in the dark and locking lips with him then climbing all over him what was that? Gareth knew who Lucy was but couldn’t keep his hands off of her His honor made him ask for her hand or at least inform her mother of their new connection! Well that didn’t go as planned at all! These two are an emotional mess especially Gareth who just doesn’t get that this brash innocent American is his wife and he can trust his heart to her! Gareth is so intent on protecting his feelings that he is going to loose the one thing he hadn’t counted on that’s his heart! Bravo now his sister needs her own HEA!
This is my 73rd book by Scarlett Scott. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. She is actually one of my top favorites. I have been reading her since 2016. I love her stories and her writing and she writes such damn good, yummy, hot sex scenes. I know I will always get a good read from her. I loved all the books in this series. So freakin' hot. Can't wait to read this one.
WOW it started and HOT and didn’t stop. Yikes, what a combustible couple. Talking about chemistry. I really loved Lucy and Gareth. I loved their personalities. I loved how total opposite they were. Their chemistry was great. Just a great story.
I have been loving this extended house party with all the delightful romances that have come out of it, and the Spitfire American Heiress’s marriage of convenience to the proper, honor bound Earl may be my favorite one yet! Scarlett Scott never fails to write a great storyline with such wonderful multi-faceted characters that I love getting to know and hate saying goodbye to! Even the charming Pug, Hercules, ( I have 2 of my own) , was a delightful addition to the story!
3.5 stars. This time I knew I was reading a novella so I set my expectations accordingly. The mfc did more of the chasing than I prefer, but overall an enjoyable quick read.
This book a great addition to the Duke's Most Wanted series. The Duchess of Bradford's house party is turning out to be quite entertaining even if it was to gather members for the Lady's Suffrage Society. From previous books, I knew Lucy Chartrand was going to be a force to be reckoned with. I love her bold American ways. Of course she is truly the opposite of the uptight Earl of Rexingham, Gareth Claremont. The characters were brilliantly written. I felt sorry for Lucy at times and wanted to scream at Gareth. Lucy being a bright and sunny person, it was hard to see her dejected. It was nice to see Gareth heal from his past. This book was serious at times with some humor, passion, and an adorable pug mixed in. It will be fine as a standalone, but I highly recommend the series. The book starts out with passion flaring between Gareth and Lucy and it continues throughout the book. The passionate scenes are well-written, detailed, and smoking hot. Scarlett Scott did a wonderful job with this forced marriage trope. There wasn't a dull moment and the book and it was unique. I am looking forward to book five in the series. The sneak peak already has me wanting to read Charity's story.
Tropes: opposite attract; marriage of convenience; MMC has a dark past with first wife Steam level: 3-4 Part of a series, but fine as a standalone.
3.5 stars rounded up just barely. This is a super fast read, steamy, and solidly written. On the downside, it doesn't really compare to a few of the author's older books, such as her Winters series. I liked the MFC (wanted to know even more about her past), MMC's sister, and MMC's doggo, but MMC's behavior and thoughts were inconsistent. His character growth was constrained by the "dark past" trope and his arc seemed abrupt. Felt that he neeeded more development. I was turned off when late in the book he taunted MFC that she should just go sleep around after providing their "heir and spare" because they had a marriage of convenience. I get that he was depressed regarding his first wife but that hit below the belt. The insecurity he had regarding MFC's past was akin to slut shaming at one point and they never talked it through. I thought that needed to happen before the HEA.
I haven't read such a plotless book in a long time. I couldn't believe I had reached the end of the book, I was sure I was only at the beginning! The plot included nothing but porn. The hero and heroine had no character or real relationship between them.
Good gracious! I think Gareth has to be hands down one of the worst characters that I have seen in a long time. To begin with, yes, he and Lucy have an unexpected meeting in the gardens at night while at the house party. And yes, he took certain liberties with her person. But no one had seen them, therefore there was no reason for him to demand that they marry when he said himself it was something he had done in the past that he did not care to repeat. Even Lucy was adamant about not marrying at all, yet he persisted in touching her the very next day where they were seen and she was compromised.
Okay, now they really are forced to get married, and obviously they have an attraction to one another (if it was little more than lust at best) things should pick up right? I mean they might as well make the best out of the situation. But no. You see Gareth's first marriage was horrible. Really, really horrible. Did I mention it was horrible? I am talking it was so horrible that the author mentioned it several times in each chapter. And he can't seem to let it go even though he knows Lucy is nothing like his first wife.
Where his first was was addicted to opium, and abhorred him and his touch, Lucy succumbs to the pleasure he can offer her at every turn (obviously that is how they ended up married after all). In fact, Lucy becomes so upset at the fact that her new husband seems to be avoiding her during the day that she hides away in his carriage demanding to go where he is going just so she has the chance to seduce him. But again, his first horrible marriage means he refuses to let himself feel anything but that lust for his wife. Or perhaps it's just this author's style to have nothing between her characters but that lust as this is not the first time I have seen such behaviors from the characters. But I digress.
Time and again, he leaves his wife at home during the day taking himself off to his club so that he won't be around her and therefore lured into the temptation to bed her. Even though he spends his nights doing precisely that. And just when I thought we were finally going to see a redemption arc for him before the end of the story as he not only showed up for breakfast and accompanied his wife on a walk, but he also took her to the theater. Sadly, just when I thought there might be hope for him, he reverted back to his usual jerk self and was not only cold towards his wife, but also unnecessarily cruel to her, deliberately saying things that he knew would hurt her all while still lamenting to himself how hard it was to keep himself from throwing her on the bed and having his way with her. Because that's romantic right?
This is of course after his wife has realized that she is in love with him despite there being no reason for her to feel this way as again outside of the bedroom, they don't seem to spend any time together for the majority of the story.
So she leaves him, intent on getting a divorce somehow (which would have been exceedingly hard during that time period if not altogether impossible). And that of course is enough to light a fire under him so that he tracks her down and confesses that he too has fallen in love. Which again begs the question of just when this supposedly happened. When he was having sex with her? When he was avoiding her? When he was drowning in the sorrows of how horrible his first marriage was? Again, I saw nothing between these characters that made their declarations even remotely believable.
One time jump later and we finally get to see these two living their happily-ever-after. But honestly, as with the other books in this series, but the time we got to it, I just didn't care about these characters anymore. Gareth was a jerk who deserved to have his wife leave him, and Lucy was right when she told her mother she deserved better.
This is another fantastic book by Scarlett Scott. It continues the love stories of a group of young women all attending a regency house party and all members of the Suffrage Society. They are all friends but each of the books can be read as a standalone, although characters from the other books are in this one as side characters. This book follows the love story of Lucy Chartrand and Gareth Claremont, the Earl of Rexingham. Lucy is deliberately trying to not get married, especially not to anyone noble. She is the daughter of very wealthy American family. Her mother, along with her sister have come to England for the season because her mother has the dream of her daughters marrying English noble gentlemen. Lucy has a different dream, so has a plan to ensure she won’t have to marry anyone. Unfortunately for her, the plan goes terribly wrong and she accidentally ends up becoming engaged to the Earl of Rexingham! The storyline was fun and interesting, there’s always lots of witty banter in there. I was kept hooked from beginning to the end. The chemistry between Lucy and Gareth is so strong, it’s like they are magnets drawn to each other but they are poles apart in many other ways. They have a connection neither have ever felt before and can’t understand how to deal with it. Gareth is a broken man who has honour in spades but doesn’t know how to just ‘be’ in a relationship. Lucy is heartbroken she is now having to marry and finds Gareth’s stiff and uptight personality difficult. Thankfully Gareth’s sister Bette becomes her friend and sheds a bit of light on why Gareth is how he is. Their relationship progression is a joy to read. Gareth has to learn how to be the man he wants to be and stop believing that he’s responsible for everything in his past. Lucy has to traverse their confusing world once they are married. Their relationship has many ups and downs and passionate kisses. I loved to read the sensual scenes between them. The love story was very well written with great secondary characters, including a sweet pug called Hercules! There’s also an epilogue and a sneak peek at who is the next to find love. I can’t wait for the next one! I was surprised to find out who was next. I received a special copy of this book the author. I’m leaving this review voluntarily.
Forever Her Earl is the 4th book in Scarlett Scott’s Dukes Most Wanted series. The third couple to find their match at the Duchess of Bradford’s house party are American heiress Lucy Chartrand and Gareth Claremont, Earl of Rexingham. Lucy is tired of being paraded around by her mother to attract a title. She has left a string of minor scandals on both sides of the Atlantic to avoid such her fate but her mother won’t be deterred. Now to guarantee a life of independence she is planning a final major scandal – but unfortunately the staid and disapproving Earl of Rexingham get caught up in her scandalous plan. Now Lucy is caught in her own trap and the Earl refuses to back away from doing the honourable thing. Can two such opposites make a success of their unwanted marriage? I really enjoyed Lucy and Gareth’s story. Lucy is such a great heroine. I loved that even when her hopes for the future are dashed, she is determined to make the best of the situation rather than wallow in resentment. She tries so hard to make a life for herself with Gareth and it’s heartbreaking whenever he rebuffs her. I did like Gareth. He buried himself under responsibility from a young age and forgot himself under the staid exterior. He had a terrible first marriage and is understandably wary the second time around but you did want to shake some sense into him at times! Lucy was so obviously nothing like his first wife and he took far too long to get over his insecurities. Both Gareth and Lucy are really likeable characters and deserved their HEA with each other. I love revisiting the house party setting and can’t wait to read about the rest of the members. I’m intrigued by who Lucy’s sister Madeline could have been matched with. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Love Scarlett’s writing and can’t wait for the next one.
“Lucy,” he said, his voice a low, velvet rasp in the quiet of the room. “Yes?” “If I help you to remove any other garment, I’m not certain I’ll be able to maintain my restraint.” He said it so calmly, and yet his words of warning were laden with blatant sensual promise. Heat blossomed in her belly. “What if I don’t want you to be restrained?” she dared to ask softly. He made a sound, part growl. “You’re playing with fire, my dear.”
Shit…BURN ME baby…burn me! Okay maybe I should rethink this request, but you get what I’m asking for! Forever Her Earl is truly delightful. I admit that I was a bit apprehensive about this book because quite frankly, there's no beating its predecessor (Forever Her Rake) but Forever Her Earl is a worthy addition to the Duke’s Most Wanted series and enjoyed the heck out of it. I'm a sucker for a good grumpy/sunshine romance and Gareth and Lucy are the best. In a case of mistaken identity, sassy American heiress Lucy Chartrand, a woman who could scandalize the Pope decides she's had enough of her matchmaking mama and hatches a plan that will ruin her ensuring she stays single. Her plan turns into a comedy of errors when she encounters a Stick-in-the-Mud Earl, whose only mission is to babysit his sister and steer clear of trouble—which, saunters in wearing a scandalously cut dress and a look that screams 'trouble' with a capital T. Lucy and Gareth find themselves in a war of wits, proving that the path to true love is often bumpy.
Every single book in the Dukes Most Wanted series has been fabulous. Forever Her Earl is no exception. If you're in the mood for a romance filled with wit, charm, steam and a bit of humor, don't miss out on Scarlett Scott's latest read.
The beginning was fine. A bit rushed but then these books are flash romances so that’s to be expected. I’m just severely disappointed by how, yet again, male mental health is handled so poorly. Frankly I’m getting tired of the woman leaving after hardly any time at all being married to the man and going “I CAN’T FIX HIM!” as she dashes out the door, wailing to herself about how sad her life is because her traumatized husband didn’t just magically get better after three days, or a month, of marriage. Also, you’re not supposed to fix him you’re supposed to HELP HIM. I skipped the ending the moment she decided to leave him. Because of course that’s the thing she should do after promising she would be patient with him. One f**cking fight and she bails. And of course he goes running after her as he realizes he loves her and bleeds his heart out and begs for her forgiveness. When really she needs to beg for his too. It’s revolting how many romance authors twist male trauma to always somehow be the man’s fault, and him not healing as fast as the woman wants is wrong. I knew Gar would attempt to make amends after the fight. He regretted what happened immediately and expressed his regret right there in the room. I just wish Scarlett had written Lucy to be as patient as she had her claim to be, and wait and see for herself what would happen after the fight. Instead of running after the first upheaval can we please get a female lead who sticks it out and actually practices what she preaches and exercises patience.
This book is like a rogue croquet ball careening through a high-society garden party – delightfully chaotic and utterly unpredictable. Our heroine, Lucy, is a firecracker trapped in a corset, yearning to escape the gilded cage of a loveless marriage. Enter Gareth, a brooding (but oh-so-handsome) earl mistaken for a lowly footman. A tumble in the rosebushes, a mistaken kiss, and suddenly Lucy's got a marriage proposal that would send her proper mama into an elation beyond measure - for her mama was pinning for her daughter to marry into the aristocracy.
What follows is a hilarious dance of denial. Gareth, haunted by a frigid first wife, tries his best to push Lucy away. But Lucy, bless her fiery spirit, is having none of it. She's a whirlwind of defiance, refusing to be cast aside like yesterday's crumpet. The angst level hovers around a simmer instead of a boil, which might leave some readers wanting a full-on emotional meltdown. But fear not, the witty banter and Lucy's outrageous antics more than compensate.
There's a touch of disappointment when Gareth finally confesses his love – a missed opportunity for some truly epic, tear-jerking groveling (a personal preference, of course). Thankfully, the happily-ever-after ending is charming enough to leave you with a goofy grin.
In short: This is a delightful romp through Regency England, perfect for those who like their romance with a healthy dose of quirky chaos. Just be prepared for Lucy – she'll steal your heart and possibly your crumpet.
Scarlet Scott’s historical romances are quickly becoming my favorite filler books - the perfect bite size read when I need to step away from a thick book with extensive world building and complex plot lines.
The stories are delightful, set within an established and understood period of history, fueled entirely by the foibles of human nature and emotions, and an HEA at the end of every one.
And since I can listen to spice with a straight face, they’re also the perfect audiobooks for my ear buds at work.
All that being said, Lucy and Gareth’s story might be my favorite thus far in the Dukes Most Wanted series.
Lucy is an American heiress who wants the freedom to choose how she lives her life, not have a man dictate her future, while here social climbing mother wants nobility titles for her daughters.
Gareth’s first marriage has been a nightmare, and after his wife’s passing, he swore to never marry again.
Instead - a mistaken identity, several passionate kisses (and a bit more😏) , and Gareth’s overwhelming sense of propriety and honor force them into agreeing to a marriage of convenience.
In their wedding night, they both realized they’d ended up with way more than they’d bargained for- and confronting their feelings might be the best story of all.
Another fantastic read from Scarlett Scott!! In book 4 of the Dukes Most Wanted series another lady meets her match at a country house party. Daring and adventurous American heiress Lucy Chartrand is at the party to find an aristocratic husband. It is what her mother most wants for her but it is anything but what she wants for her life. She wants independence to start her own cosmetics company. Lucy plans to compromise herself to thwart her mother. But her plans go awry when she mistakenly meets the stuffy and oh so proper Gareth Claremont, Earl of Rexingham instead of the footman for an assignation in the darkened gardens. One incredible kiss and they are both forever changed. They can't stand each other but when they touch the sparks ignite. They are compromised and forced into a union that neither want. Can Gareth overcome his tortured past and can Lucy give up her dreams and find everlasting love? You will love this opposites attract story. There is just the right amount of romance and spice. This author never disappoints!!! I received an ARC of this book and is my honest review.
I loved this scintillating tale that sets the pages ablaze with its steamy romance and captivating narrative. The main characters, Lucy Chartrand, a bold and fiercely opinionated American heiress, and Gareth Claremont, the Earl of Rexingham, are the heart of this fiery novel. Lucy’s desire for independence and Gareth’s honorable nature clash in a series of events that are as humorous as they are heated. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their interactions are filled with witty banter and intense moments that will leave readers breathless.
The author's writing shines in her ability to create a world that feels both authentic and enchanting. The historical backdrop serves as the perfect stage for Lucy and Gareth’s romance to unfold, with each page drawing the reader deeper into their story. The supporting cast, including Gareth’s wayward sister and Lucy’s matchmaking mother, add depth and humor to the narrative. Scarlett Scott has outdone herself with this latest installment in the Dukes Most Wanted series, delivering a story that is as well-written as it is passionate. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
