I pushed Mila away to save her soul.

Because my own was tarnished before I could even talk.

When she whispered she loved me, I knew the best thing to do was to leave.

I continued my business, completing tasks that even the strongest members of Rogue can’t do.

I’ve mastered how to be invisible.

I move in the shadows as a ghost amongst the deadliest criminal organizations.

No one has been able to find me.

Until her.

One summer night my life is upended and soon thoughts and emotions I’ve never had consume

me.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

I’m designed to protect by any means necessary.

I thrive on the fear of the enemy.

I live for their vendettas.

I ruin their empires.

After all, I am what stands between the monsters and the weak.

I didn’t plan for Mila.

And I never considered she might be deadlier than me.

Reed "ghost", early to mid 20s.. is as emotionless as you get, with a good reason for it. Reed doesn't know what love is not with others and not with himself. He finds a girl im assuming at the time under age, and he's intrigued by her because she sees him and not just the mask he wears for the world. Mila finally shares how she feels, and he immediately breaks it off with her to "save her soul." Miss Mila, now of age, says thanks for your suggestion but hard pass and tracks him down, refusing to leave until she wears him down. Will Reed finally accept something good and light into his world, or will he continue to live a lonely life in order to protect the one he cares the most about in the world?

I feel like I'm missing a lot. Not only do I feel like I've been dropped into the middle of a series (I did) but also dropped in the middle of a book. This is my first book by this author, and idk if more backstory is told in previous books or not so for that reason I'm not going to count it against my ratings. So going into this book.. I was completely lost with the overall plot with Rogue and with who these characters are. I wish they gave more backstory via flashbacks instead of a quick synopsis. That way I could feel more connected to the MCs. I would have liked more relationship building as well. I just didn't feel connected. I know it's only 95 pages, so you can't get too much info in that short of time. I did however really like Mila not giving up on him even when he broke her heart she refused to believe he truly felt nothing for her. Overall, good quick little read. Thank you for letting me read early.

This novella packs quite the punch; secrets are unveiled, and new alliances are made. Reed and Mila have fantastic chemistry and understand one another on a cellular level. It's hard to find someone who gets the darker side of you and can relate to things the way you do, but Reed finally found that person in Mila—even if she had to force him to open his eyes.

Reed & Milas story...

Reed, the emotionless one who does Rogues dirty work and is content to stay solo for the rest of his days.

Mila has other ideas though! A while back Mila told Reed how she felt - she not only saw beneath his layers but she knew he could see below hers too. They're connected in a way that a lot people aren't and although Reed turned her down and left - Mila turns the tables and isn't letting him get away.

He soon realises there's a heck of a lot more to Mila than he thought.

Two people who are so different yet so alike, their brains and souls are connected and I could easily read more on them.

*I voluntarily received an arc and this is my honest review.

A Quick Fast Paced Novella!!
Finally, We See Reed & Mila Get Their Moment!!

I loved that we get to see Reed the emotionless ghost of the Rogue question if he has more than just an obsession with Mila. Will he be able to love her or will he taint her with his darkness? Reed is a complicated man with very few emotions but he knows he's obsessed with Mila and doesn't want her to see what he does for the Rogue. He never wants to taint Mila with his so-called darkness and his dissociative personality makes him question whether can he give her what she deserves and show her he loves her.

Mila knows she loves Reed and they are made for each other but she's gonna need to push him outside his boundaries for him to see what she knows. I love that Mila has her secrets when it comes to both her family and Reed but she needs that element of surprise to prove she's ready to step in and help the Rogue and find her HEA with Reed. Will she be able to break his walls and make her family understand why she had to leave the way she did?

These two have an undeniable connection. The angsty push/pull between them is chef kisses perfection which leads to some spicy moments. So be ready to dive into all the darkness that surrounds both Reed and Mila from their past to the present with the added suspense of what mission they find themselves in with the Rogue. This novella is fast-paced, spicy, a touch of darkness, and unputdownable so be ready for the action to unfold along the way.

Highly recommend this and the series it just pulls you in and consumes you from the start. It's a perfect addition to the series and Reed & Mila are finally on the same page with their feelings!

# Ghost ( Midwest Boys Series)
Speechless, yelling outta pure frustration, glued to the edge of my seat in anticipation of what would happen from one second to the next , feeling like my heart was literally beating right out of my chest and then. Breaking with tears streaming down my face , smiling, laughing and rooting so freaking hard for Reed and Mila to get their happy ending.
All I can really say without giving anyone away ; because trust me when I say this is one love story best enjoyed by going in with a completely open mind ) is I really was just taken on the ride of my life and completely blown away in all the best ways . As per usual Ashton Brooks nailed it and delivered one of the best books I’ve read this year . Ghost was and is everything, i mean everything. It’s an emotional rollercoaster that plays on all your emotions in ways you won’t even be expecting. Reed and Mila I genuinely adore both so freaking much , from page one I just felt such a connection- like a moth to a flame - such wonderfully written and complex characters and a journey that 100% captives you to the point you’ll actually end up losing track of time and staying up well into the early morning hours to finish because yes it’s just that addicting. Add into that the intrigue, the suspense, the secrets, the obstacles, the obsession, the dark , raw and gritty moments, the love , the passion, the pain , the family and friendships, A morally Grey Hero and a Strong heroine both of which you cannot stop yourself from falling in love with . So settle in grab on tight and prepare yourself to be wowed and ready expect the unexpected; Reading # Ghost really is like being on the wildest ride at rhe amusement park ;and not knowing which was is up and which was is down 🖤🖤🖤♥️♥️♥️

"This new me was born in blood just like you."

Its been a joy to be back in this world with previous side characters that everyone loved. We get to know more about Reed and Mila's journey as they come together and grow into such wonderful and strong individuals. They both been through alot and because of that they have even more passion than the previous characters to be just as involved in Rogue and getting as many traitors as possible.

They're chemistry was off the charts and how in-tuned they were with each other was palpable and you just cant help but see their perfection as a couple!

We realize just how lonely and dark Reed has been feeling and going through life. Mila was the light that pushed her way into his darkness to help him see how much he truly needed her.

"There is a two-word phrase for where my body count is at: Serial Killer."

I wanted more of this world and I'm glad I got it. We got to see characters we missed and learn that some things are escalating in New York. The Minnesota gang seems to be heading to Nash's and Oliver's territory and we need to see it unravel!!!

This is far from over and I pray we do get more of this world!!! I would love to see the New York gang get there story told!! I don't want it to end and hope is all i have for now!

"In blood, we were born. In the darkness, we found our other halves."

Loved it! I have read all the books in this series so I was fully aware of all characters and back stories. I personally think that is the best before reading this book because you have a better development and understanding of the characters and all the books are fairly short but gripping so easy reads.

The MMC Reed works for the company that helps the most vulnerable disappear, there are always people that want to hurt the best of people so he feels no remorse when he steps in to remove those people and keep the company safe. He doesn’t feel emotions period. He thinks it’s because of his traumatic background. The FMC Mila knows different, she sees him like he sees her, she knows no one really looks at Reed so she understands him better than even he does, she’s also not afraid to tell him she’s right.

Loved the pace of this story, the way it fit in with the other books. Loved that we got to see a little more of some of the strong side characters from the other books, based on the plot I know there will be another book and I can’t wait to see what that drama is going to look like!

Really great novella and thoroughly enjoyed.

Was lucky to be given this Arc but this review is based on my own opinions. Thank you NextStep’s PR

This was so good. I was so excited to find out Reed was getting his story and that Mila was going to be his girl. I got hooked on this series from the start and loved being in this world, so I was ecstatic to say the least Ashton was writing this book and she once again sucked me back into Rogue's world and doing that brought Reed into the picture.

Reed hasn't had an easy life with his background history after Rogue saved him, and when he got old enough he starting helping Rogue out handling thing's that you couldn't talk about as he has a special skill set, but he may have met his match when Mila show's up.

Mila is one girl you never want to underestimate. Reed broke her heart that one night and she was tired of waiting on him to get over himself, so instead him coming to her she goes to him and throws his world upside down, but she also finds out his lil secret that only makes her love him more. He thinks he can’t love, but she's there to prove him wrong.

You can't help but love these mc's as they've been through the wringer backwards and forwards. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I absolutely loved reading this captivating, fast-paced novella.

Reed ‘Ghost’ is an enigmatic character, emotionally distant and unfamiliar with love. His obsession with Mila is undeniable. Despite his dark occupation with ‘Rogue,’ Reed has done everything in his power to shield Mila from this side of his life. He constantly questions if he can offer Mila what she truly deserves and if he can express that his feelings for her go beyond mere love.

Mila, on the other hand, loves Reed despite his dark dealings. She understands that to break through his emotional barriers, she must push him beyond his comfort zone. Mila is also hiding secrets from both her family and Reed, knowing that these secrets are crucial for her to find her place within ‘Rogue’ and achieve happiness with Reed.

The connection between Reed and Mila is electric, and their chemistry leaps off the page. The story is masterfully written, balancing darkness and spice in a perfect blend. This novella is fast-paced and thoroughly engrossing. I highly recommend it!

If you’re a fan of the TV show Dexter, then you’ll love Reed in #Ghost. He’s your friendly, neighbourhood psychopath who channels his bloodlust by hunting the monsters who would target ROGUE, the organisation that had saved him. Mila is the one person who looked at hi and saw beneath his mask, so in an attempt to protect her he’d ran. But now Mila has tracked her man down.

This was a quick if slightly confusing read. When I read it, I didn’t realise it was part of the Midwest Boys series and I don’t know if Reed and Mila’s backstories were covered in more detail in the previous books so initially it felt a bit like I’d been dropped in at the deep end as Ghost only lighted glanced over their histories and I was intrigued enough to want more. There was definitely some sizzle between them. If this novella was supposed to encourage people to read this series, then it’s worked on this particular reader. I’m definitely keen to read more about these characters.

I have loved this world from the very first book and my love for it continues to grow with each new story!

Ghost is a second chance, suspenseful read with morally grey hero and the perfect heroine to match! I absolutely love Reed and Mila. They have so much that can relate to each other. They also are such a big and important part of Rogue! This book is sweet but also packs some heat and drama. This novella was quick and well written for these two characters. Definitely five star from me for this book!

I love this world so much that I always hate when the book ends. This is definitely a must read in my opinion! I say read the series, read this novella, read everything that is Midwest by Ashton!

Ghost by Ashton Brooks is the novella following Reed and Mila. He left her before. She’s been gravely injured. She’s supposed to go to college now to become an accountant. But, she has other ideas and plans….they involve Ghost…but, she has so many secrets…and those secrets could change everything!

This was a fast-paced novella that is part of the Midwest Boys Series. While it can be read as a standalone, I would have enjoyed a deeper dive into their relationship BEFORE this occurred. I was able to follow everything easily, but I think the relationship would have been more solid to me if I had read the rest of the series! DID NOT detract from the story at all!!!! I absolutely enjoyed every word!!! Excellent story!!!

I will never say no to reading the Midwest Boys. Especially since Reed has always been there, in the periphery. That's not to say he was easy to love. He was hard and cold. Ruthless and calculating. And so unsure of what to do when it came to Mila. The woman he watched grow up who had been fooling them all and showed up at his door.

I liked how she didn't back down. How she stood her ground and went after what she wanted with no reservations. And that was a life with Reed.

Mila and Reed's friends to lovers romance was dark and deadly but also laced with moments of lightness. And while I would've liked a little more of them together bonding and not working, I liked how much they respected what the other did and how their solo existence fell away.

This is a fast paced novella which is Reed / Ghost and Mila’s journey.
Ghost is the master of being invisible, but Mila sees through the façade he presents to the world, to the man underneath, and when she declares her love for him, he instantly breaks things off, but she is determined.
This is a well written dark, raw, gritty, action packed, and emotionally charged story, with family, friendships, angst, suspense, intrigue, heartbreak, acceptance, making choices, secrets, boundaries, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, unpredictable, tragic, twisted, and spicy addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I loved reading this novella about Reed and Mila, they are a couple of characters from the Midwest Boys series. Even though this is a standalone I would suggest reading that series so you know more of the background. Reed always thought of himself as a loner so he decided to distance himself in doing so he pushed away the one person that could love him. Mila felt like she was being held back from what she really wanted to do so she decided to chase after the only person that could ever give her what she desires. I really enjoyed Reed and Mila, they have quite the story. I definitely recommend this book. It was really good.

I enjoyed this novella and was excited to get back to the Rogue team. However, it’s such a long time since I read the last book that I had to really concentrate and dredge my mind to get back to where it left off and I still feel a bit vague about Reed…I wish I had reread some of the other stories.
Having said all that I liked both Mila and Reed. They each have unique skills to bring to Rogue and neither are afraid of their own darkness.

A quick fast paced story and I’m just hoping the next full length book gets my memory back on track and clarifies all the loose ends that still seem to be dangling!!

Ghost by Ashton Brooks arc. I received this advanced reader copy of the novella Ghost. It the first book I read by this author. Definitely an exciting start. It was fast paced enjoyable and entertaining fun. This book had great tropes likes forced proximity, found family and secret society. The fmc Mila is a good girl but she is also smart and brave, she fights for what she what’s who is Reed our dark Morally grey mmc who is brooding and protective. This was a very interesting read definitely recommend you check it out. The book comes out June 21,2024.

Beautiful, Emotional and just so so amazing! Reed and Mila are a great duo! I love how even though Reed says he’s incapable of loving anyone Mila knows that’s not the case. He shows his love in other ways. And by other ways I mean obsession. Is there a good kind of obsession? Yes and Reed does that perfectly. He will do whatever it takes to protect Mila. And the same goes for Mila. These two will have you on such an emotional roller coaster but let me tell you it’s a beautiful ride.

You just know you're going to wrap your arms around Reed/Ghost! Man were my heart strings being pulled HARD!

Thank goodness for Mila! Her strength to persevere was so admirable! Loved her!

Reed was trying to protect Mila from his darkness, but he definitely needed her light!

It has been such a long time since I read one of Ms. Brooks's Midwest Boys stories, so I was thrilled to see this come out!

Mila and Reed much to unpack from the secrets to angst. Reed is a complex and dark character but that doesn't Mila from loving him or wanting him. She makes sure he knows that, the two are good together he just has to accept that.
