I guess if you pick this book up its pretty obvious what you're going to get. I really enjoyed the brief explanations of various mysteries, largely because I hadn't heard of all of them yet.
Disappointing however was the variation in explanations. Some of the tales were solved or explained by robust research and evidence. Others Jack simply threw some possible reasons out there and others he simply didn't bother and basically just talked about the mystery.
Nonetheless a good balance of laughs to spookiness so I really enjoyed this one.
As interesting and as much fun as the Red Herring...Shaggy Dog books. Albert Jack has a real knack for getting dry, heavy factual information into a lovely, readable concise format. I learned more about the Bermuda Triangle and Marilyn Monroe than I ever knew before and the brief 10-minute chapters make them easy to digest and pick up/put down as you wish.
A great repository of entertainingly written explanations to many mysteries and conundrums. My favourite is the Loch Ness Monster – although I choose not to believe it. A fun book and good for dipping in an out of.
This is a great sense of satisfaction about the unravelling of mysteries and Mr Jack does it with aplomb.
Some of the topics discussed in this book were familiar to me, whilst others not at all. I liked that the book was written with a sense of humour, though I did feel it getting a bit snarky at times.
