Breaking Our Pact

Rate this book
"Deal–sisters are off-limits.” Oh, how I would regret those four words.

I respected boundaries, yet I became entangled in a web of desire and the haunting echoes of a promise I never should have made.

I could not foresee my best friend Milo’s kid sister becoming the object of all my fantasies. What started as innocent camaraderie became a forbidden attraction that threatened to shatter the very foundation of our friendship.

No one ticked all my boxes— except Megan. My boxes were designed specifically for her. My heart raced with every stolen glance, and I had to confront the undeniable truth. Megan wasn't just any woman. She was the one who effortlessly fulfilled my deepest desires.

I realized that to win Megan's heart, I had to confront my flaws and embark on a journey of self-discovery. Could I grow into the person she deserved before it was too late?

The weight of my ill-fated commitment threatened to unravel the bonds that tied us together. I faced a gut-wrenching choice. Should I stay true to my word and sacrifice love or defy convention, risking everything in pursuit of forbidden passion?

Were sisters truly off-limits? Did I have to choose friendship over love? While hearts hung in the balance, I grappled with the ultimate dilemma. Should I follow the unwritten rules of friendship or dare to embrace a love that could redefine everything I thought I knew?

The storyline is charming, and the book is easy to read. I would say this is one of the best books by Kismet that I have read thus far. I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Elyse and Megan.

I also appreciated the friendship between Elyse and Megan's brother, Milo. They were a strong team and a great example of friendship.

If you are looking for a quick and easy closed-door romance novel, then this is the book for you.

I loved this book so much! It’s short and sweet with everything! This is an enemies to love/best friends sister romance.

Megan is in love with Elyse which is Milo’s bestie. Milo is Megan’s brother. Elyse is younger than Megan but has a crush on her in high school. Milo and Elyse make a pact during high school to stay away from each other’s sisters.

Meg and Elyse pretty much stop talking and 6 years pass. Meg gets a job at a university and needs a place to stay. Elyse has a knee injury and needs help at home. Meg agrees to stay with Elyse to help her even though she’s always been in love with Elyse. I really enjoyed their chemistry and relationship. The banter, angst and chemistry was all there. This book has ALL the feels in 154 pages. Short and sweet, Kudos to the author!

This is a story of how a pact made between Elyse and her best friend Milo at 16 impacted their lives. By declaring their sisters are off limits, Elyse's growing affection for Milo's little sister Megan is hidden when Elyse abruptly ends their friendship.

The story is told in alternating chapters from both Elyse's and Megan's perspective about 10 years after the pact is made. With the varying points of view, we see the uncertainty and struggle of young adults in their early to mid twenties. This was an ok read and probably intended for a younger audience, but I couldn't help rooting for them to get their happily ever after.

3.5 stars... (rounded up to be fair)

I'm a huge women's soccer fan - so take that and add some sapphic fun and I'm pretty much all in. However, there are few things that took the story from "I love it" to "It was okay."

This is a best friends to enemies to lovers story via forced proximity. At 16, Elyse realizes she's in love with her best friend Milo's younger (13 y/o) sister Megan (- half star for this. A three year age difference is nothing, but there is just something a little icky to me about a 16 y/o lusting after a 13 y/o). Unfortunately, this is literally right after Elyse and Milo made a pact that sisters were off limits in their search for love or lust.

Fast forward 6 years - Milo and Elyse moved to Boston 4 years ago to go to college. Elyse has graduated and is now a successful, women's soccer player and Lothario living in a fancy apartment (- half star. A bit of a stretch that she has that much money), and Milo is still living in the dorms while he pursues an advanced degree. Prior to their pact, Megan was regularly allowed to hang out with Milo and Elyse - hence the mutual unspoken pining when they were both younger. Elyse has successfully moved from friend to enemy by completely ignoring Megan or being rude (if not down right mean) when interacting with her over the last 6 years.

Megan has an opportunity to attend a class at Boston University and obviously can't stay with her brother in the dorms so rooming with Elyse is the only option. Also, Elyse was injured pretty badly in a soccer match and could use some live-in help. Cue the forced proximity.

I love the premise - soccer & sapphic? LOVE it. The execution just leaves a little to be desired. The characters are somewhat detailed but some of the stuff that pops up later (sorry no spoilers) seems a bit forced. The side characters don’t have enough depth to them, especially Milo, given the impact they have on the story. Subtract another half star for this.

I wish I would have enjoyed it more….

This was a cute short story! I had an assumption that it would have had a predictable ending, however, I was happy that it did not! In my opinion, the ending was not as romantic as the rest of the story though which was quite surprising (not sure if I prefer it or not if I'm honest - I'm a sucker for happy ever afters). It was a happy ending though, just not as conventional as some others, which actually could be a good thing (I'm still undecided though). I think you'll love this story even more if you're a soccer fan because you can really feel the passion that the main character has for the sport and it was lovely to read about someone being as passionate as she was. What I also liked about this story is that is was short and easy to read. I kind of felt like I would have wanted more from it though because it was so good and could have been even better if some parts were written in more detail or didn't feel as rushed. Overall, it is a very cute, enjoyable short romance story!!

Elyse and Megs are the two main characters who were likeable and kept me reading to see what happened.
The plot was good but there were quite a few things wrong.
Firstly numerous typos, a previous sentence squashed into a later sentence etc. etc.
Secondly the Elyse character was said to be 24 but it kept referring to when she last got on with Meg 6 years previously when she was 16. Yeah the maths don’t add up.
She was a 6ft 1” striker and the opposing teams defender was 6ft 3” which is bizarre as girls aren’t usually that tall, even the goalkeepers. Somehow I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a mf story converted to ff.
As I’m discovering with all this authors stories, they just stop at a place where it’s not a great time to stop. So many questions unanswered and the epilogue whilst ok, didn’t really help me envisage them in the future.

What a promise!

This story is told in alternating chapters between the main characters Elyse, a soccer champion, and Megan, younger sister to her best friend Milo since childhood. When they hit their teen years, Milo and Elyse promised one another they would never date the other's sibling. Now, ten years later, the women find themselves living together and wanting to be together, but that long ago promise hangs in the air.

I do like this author's writing style and her characters, but I thought the "on again, off again" behavior of Elyse lasted way too long. I found myself wanting that behavior to end! However, I do think this story would appeal to younger women. The ending was very cute!

Meg and Elyse used to get along great when they were younger but over the years their friendship has fallen by the wayside and actually even turned to hatred.
This was all because of a pact between Elyse and Milo, Meg's brother.
He warned her off pursuing Meg as a girlfriend due to Elyse's love em and leave em repair.
Even though she had feelings for Meg she kept them secret for years.
Both girls got on with things but when they end up sharing a house after a soccer accident Elyse had things heat up and those feelings never really died for either of them.
But the "sisters off limits" pact still stands so where does this leave them and Elyse's friendship with Milo?
A sweet, tender modern romance.

DNF in the first few pages when a 13 year old girl's breasts are being compared to melons and referred to a few times (the POV was a 16 year old perving on the other, but she also literally thought the younger girl was 10 not even 5 minutes earlier). I don't care they're both minors, and I really don't think it's a prudish stance to say I don't want to hear in detail about a child's breasts because WTAF and WHY TAF. DNF with great prejudice.

Love everything this author writes , the covers are fun then delve into the pages , great story that didn’t take ages to immerse and discover the brilliant writing and super characters within. What can I say Megan and Elyse couldn’t keep their love at bay….

This is a very easy and cute story, I feel like some of it didn't make sense but that doesn't take away from the story that much. The characters are cool.

Good book but…..

I really would have loved this book if it had a more detail. It felt very rushed and left me feeling disconnected from the characters. Due to this I could not fully enjoy the story line. Could have been great but as is just ok
