A grumpy princess. A laid-back Navy SEAL. A road trip. What could go wrong?
Thala Targen is known as the ice princess. Sister to the Queen of Venusstea, she is a general in the royal guard and the next in line to the throne. After an attempt on the queen’s life makes Thala a suspect, she goes on the run in the city of Los Angeles. Forced in proximity with a mysterious agent—or a possible kidnapper—she soon finds the man’s easygoing personality grating on her last nerve. But she needs him to prove her innocence.
Hank Bristow is known as the unruffled one. Quick to smile, a nomad by nature, he goes rogue on instinct. An instinct that has him rescuing a prickly princess from a fiery death. Regrets may come later, but he’s looking forward to pulling that stick out of her royal a$$.
However, he soon discovers there’s more to Thala underneath that ice. And he can’t wait to show her there’s more to life than being a princess. Unfortunately, his heart didn’t get the memo that the princess wasn’t his to keep.
Victoria Paige writes smart, edgy, seductive romance.
Her heroes are badass alpha males and her smart, strong-willed heroines can hold their own against a bossy hero. Her books are sexually explicit and may contain dark themes, morally ambiguous choices, and disturbing situations as she injects realism into her stories and gives them her own twist.
Victoria lives in Richmond, Virginia with her husband and playful German Shepherd Dog, Loki.
What a fantastic conclusion to the Rogue Protectors Series! Reverse grumpy/sunshine stories are a fave, and while I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the "royal" trope, Victoria Paige singlehandedly just changed my mind ❤️. Loved Thala, her role in her kingdom, and all the drama that came with it. Hank was a perfect match for her, and I just loved the snarky banter between them and Hank's utter confusion with her refusal to be charmed by him, lol. The storyline was fantastic, with tons of action and plenty of suspense. I'm sorry to see the end of the series, but I'm excited to see where she goes next!
I can honestly say that Hank utterly shocked me. Not only is he far more than meets the eye (expected that), but he’s met someone who doesn’t believe that his charm is bone-deep. I mean, it IS, but Thala sees past the mask and the easygoing facade to the real man underneath it all. And boy, do the sparks fly because he’s not prepared for her to throw him for several loops.
Thala is also far more than meets the eye. She’s strong and loyal and stubborn and totally able to save herself. She’s also realistic about her role and what she might rather have in life. Hank helps her spread those wings a tad, but the real question is whether or not they can have it all, or just a little bit for a very short time.
This is an excellent story of betrayal, lies, danger, and love all rolled up into one book I didn’t want to put down for even a minute. Add in some familiar faces you’ve likely come to know and love from a few different walks of life, and this only has me wishing that I hadn’t finished it because I wasn’t prepared to try to find something else to try to follow the journey that Thala and Hank take with us!
I have been patiently waiting for Hank's story since our first encounter with him all the way back in "The Ex-Assignment." He's been a staple in the Rouge Protectors series and made some cameo appearances in the Scorned Fate series. As with all of the Alpha men that are part of this elite group of contractors, they need a strong woman to balance them out. These guys are not going to do well with shrinking violets. Thala Targen checks all of those boxes. She is one Bad-a$$ who just happens to be a princess as well, second to the thrown in her little country of Venusstea. This book is one wild ride from the first chapter to the end, as you try to figure out who's responsible for the attempt on the queen's life. And in true Victoria Paige fashion there's a little bit of comedy. In this installment it's Edgar the mule. As someone raised around horses, has had a donkey or two on the farm, and was part of a riding club that mules were often the trail bosses, I truly enjoyed Edgar's antics. I received this book as an ARC, for an honest and voluntary review, but I've read every book this author has written.
When Hank attends a premiere he is asked by Garrison to watch over a Queen and her sister, Thala. When an attempt on the Queen’s life is made, Thala is separated from her sister and whisked away. She’s a suspect and mad that anyone would think that but when an attempt is made on her life, Hank steps in from the shadows and rescues her. She has no choice but to trust Hank for the time being and Hank learns that her nickname the ice princess is no accident. On the run and hiding out, the two can’t deny their attraction for long but there may be no future for them, she’s a Princess and he’s a commoner, she lives in the spotlight, he lives in the shadows and they are oceans apart in more ways than one….but they may not have a chance to figure it out as the hits keep coming and they can’t figure out who wants her dead. A great read with suspense, some humour, steam and great characters. A great ending to this series with past characters making an appearance and a great HEA for all. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
This fantastic book ends the Rogue Protectors series with attention grabbing action and intrigue, with a snarky banter and sizzling attraction.
Neither Princess Thala nor Hank Bristow initially know whether they can trust the other when they meet during an assassination attempts on Thala and her sister Queen Amadea. Thala is a warrior princess and she easily needles Hank.
Their an unlikely pairing is entertaining and engaging with so many obstacles. I loved how Thala insisted on being part of the action and in the loop on the investigation into who was behind the attacks and why.
I was glued to the page from start to finish and completely caught up in the storyline.
I received a free ARC from the author; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
I rarely do that but i decided to skip the last book because apparently i don't want to read about married couple or ex married couple in this series ^^ The story was a bit more structured even if this time i'm the one that didn't get all of it lol The love story was sweet and i like seeing Talia discover a new way of living. But the all kingdom thing felt soo unbelievable (i know i know there are still princesses and all in the world) and so not relatable that i wasn't convinced. Still i had a good time.
Overall, i must say, even if i didn't enjoy this series as much as i hoped, i was still riveted and attached to my kindle.
This was not a book I expected from Victoria but man I was not disappointed about it. It part of a series and I have only read a few it that series but know this can be read as a standalone. What intrigued me was it was a royal trope something I haven’t read in all the time I’ve been reading and I loved it! Thala was not weak and to me she was simply beautiful. Hank oh my that man with his swagger and smirk. These two were great together. I love being on Victorias team. She’s great to work with and very understanding. Give her books a try.
I was really captivated by this book. Victoria did an amazing job of bringing two different worlds together in a truly explosive way. The story revolves around Hank, a CIA agent who is tasked with protecting Thala, a strong and independent princess who is second in line to the throne. Their dynamic and the challenges they face make for a thrilling and engaging read.
The whole series was amazing and I’m sad it’s over!! It has it all adventure, love, angst. The story was compelling with each and every book of this series check it out you won’t be disappointed!!
My favorite redheaded rogue has his own love story!
Victoria Paige’s books are fun to read because they cover a range of emotions, suspense, and the unexpected. In Forced Protector, I finally get to read about one of my favorite supporting characters who piqued readers' interest in the past Rogue Protectors books. The hunky, huggable Hank Bristow has a chance for romance! What’s beneath the guy’s easy-going manner and engaging charm? I couldn’t wait to begin this tale about the forced proximity of two dueling dynamos trying to solve the mystery of an assassination attempt on Thala Targen’s sister, the queen of Venusstea. This fun and gripping adventure has engaging plot lines, mystery, and great character development of the mysterious, redheaded contractor Hank and his courageous companion Princess Thala, a fascinating woman he never saw coming.
I really enjoy a couple who engage in clever banter while trying to resist their growing chemistry. Their personalities couldn’t be more different, but there are plenty of sparks developing amid the strong attitudes. Hank is a smooth, friendly guy when he’s not pursuing the bad guys, but now he must investigate Thala as a possible assassin and protect her while his team looks for unknown perpetrators. Thala was trained from birth to be all about duty as a royal general and protector of her queen. She is a no-nonsense leader who projects a cold facade. Thala and Hank clash as they go toe to toe for dominance on a mission to prevent Thala’s sister and government from further peril.
Hank forces Thala to go on the run undercover for her own protection when an attempt is made on her life while nefarious enemies continue to threaten her country. This story not only has plenty of treachery and suspects to ponder, but some refreshing humor from very stubborn characters trying to protect one another and their loved ones. Besides the strong-willed and emotionally conflicted couple and Hank’s cranky Uncle Jim, the real stubborn ass in the mix is Edgar the mule who provides comic relief in a story full of entertainment, romance, and adventure.
I like a strong confident woman like Thala who can take care of herself in physical or intellectual battles. It’s also nice to see her softer side blossom under Hank’s teasing influence. Their playful getting to know you "questions game" was a very fun scenario. These two have more in common than they think. They certainly learn a lot about trust when sharing their vulnerabilities and fears while traveling together. Hank had hidden demons in his past behind his charm and smile. They explain his nomad existence and avoidance of getting too close to anyone. Hank notices that Thala has never had the freedom to be a private citizen with choices. He introduces her to a different side of life where she can indulge in life’s simple pleasures.
This couple discover different versions of themselves as their feelings develop. But the real world outside their own private bubble has many obstacles to overcome with some painful detours. Imagining and fighting for new roles in their lives delivered the conflicts as well as the happy sighs I expected from this dynamic couple. Their sexy, slow burn that explores a possible future together through thoughtful compromise makes their struggling path for happiness believable.
I was very pleased with the last book of the Rogue Protectors series. Hank and Thala were the best partners to be the much needed protectors of one another’s hearts. Although Hank and Thala's story can be read as a standalone book, the delightful epilogue brings all the series’ past couples and their families together to celebrate their camaraderie and share the happy ending gratification readers crave. I will not be surprised to see some of these characters popping in as guests in some of the author’s future stories. I definitely won’t mind. Well done Victoria Paige on the concluding book of the Rogue Protectors series!
I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review.
FORCED PROTECTOR is the sixth instalment in Victoria Paige’s contemporary, adult ROGUE PROTECTORS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a group of current and former US Navy SEALs, CIA Operatives and law enforcement. This is thirty-six year old, former CIA operative turned security specialist Hank Bristow aka Holden Buchanan, and twenty-nine year old, Royal Guard General / princess Thala Targen’s story line. FORCED PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. For fans of Paige, there is a slight cross-over and mention of the characters from the SCORNED FATE series.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Hank and Thala) FORCED PROTECTOR follows in the aftermath of the attempted assassination of Venusstea’s Queen Amadea Targen on US soil. Queen Amadea and Princess Thala were in the US for the screening of a film featuring a segment of their country’s history but an attempt on both of their lives finds Queen Amadea whisked to places unknown, and Princess Thala under the protection of our story line hero. Enter former CIA operative Hank Bristow, the man with whom Thala will fall in love. Someone is targeting our story line heroine, and when their whereabouts are continually compromised, Hank and Thala suspect a mole, someone on the inside taking aim at the royal siblings. Meanwhile, hiding out at his family winery, Hank must come to terms with the numerous attempts to purchase the vineyard, a vineyard that has been in the family for years but betrayal from within begins to focus on someone close. With the help of his former operatives, Hank begins to unravel the secrets surrounding the Venusstea Royal family.
The world building follows several pathways including the assassination attempts against Thala and Amadea; a political and international nightmare for power and natural resources; the endeavor of outsiders to take control of the Buchanan winery; and a Royal family at odds with history, culture and laws of succession.
The relationship between Thala and Hank begins acrimoniously. Thala is a general in the Royal Guard, and as such believes she is capable of handling her own protection. Hank is determined to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love but the threats against her life are difficult to stop when they are coming from more than one possible direction. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic, language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters are numerous and dynamic: Hank’s cousin Christian, Uncle Edgar; Thala’s sister Amadea, her bodyguard Ramsay; as well as Hank’s teammates and fellow security specialists, several of whom we met in the previous story line. The requisite evil has many faces.
FORCED PROTECTOR is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, greed and obsession, secrets and lies, acceptance and love. The premise is detailed, intriguing and dramatic; the romance is seductive and passionate; the characters are determined, and charismatic.

Forced Protector is the sixth book in Rogue Protectors series. It is fast-paced and charming book with elements of action, danger, unexpected twists, complex characters, and a captivating plot that keeps readers engaged, making it a delightful and entertaining read. Forced Protector is an engaging, gripping story that balances romance, intrigue, and danger.
How much I have missed this team and its members, especially their bond. So good to be a part of this world again.
Thala Targen, sister to the Queen of Venusstea, is a general in the royal guard and next in line for the throne. After an assassination attempt on her sister makes her a suspect, Thala flees to Los Angeles. There, she reluctantly teams up with Hank Bristow, a laid-back Navy SEAL who saves her from danger. Despite their clashing personalities, Thala needs Hank's help to clear her name. As they embark on a road trip, Hank discovers that Thala has a deeper side beyond her icy exterior, and he aims to show her that life can be more than just royal duties. However, he struggles with his growing feelings for her, knowing she may not be his to keep. Despite their strong chemistry and unique connection, they must confront challenges and obstacles. The build up is beautifully crafted. Both are complex and relatable characters that the reader can't help but fall for and root for their HEA. Their connection is touching and honest, filled with witty sassy banter and chemistry. I enjoyed their development and growth.
Each book can be read as a standalone. A beautiful addition to the already amazing series. Highly recommend.
What a ride! Ms. Paige does it again. The 6th book is Bristow’s story. And he landed himself a Princess, a real monarch princess. The story was fast paced and amazing. Most of the book left me thinking that everyone but Hank and Thala were suspects. This book had everything, laughs, adventure, drama and of course a really hot alpha male.
We’re all familiar with Hank Bristow and his team. He meets Princess Thala, an Amazonian Princess at a movie premiere. There are attacks on her and the royal family and everyone including Thala is a suspect. Hank is helping Thala because he’s the only one who believes her as innocent at first. But who is trying to kill her and her siblings? Is it the guards? The siblings? Outside enemies? That is a question you’ll have to read for an answer. It’s totally worthwhile! As Hank is helping Thala he brings her to his family vineyard in North Cal. Uncle Jim and Edgar are just the best. And Thala may be a princess but she is a warrior. I guess that is part of being the head of the royal guard. They end up helping each other and make an amazing duo especially after things heat up!
With family drama on both sides, the two have to trust each other and navigate through some murky situations to get answers. If you’re a fan of Victoria Paige you will not be disappointed. If this is your first time ready by Ms. Paige, be prepared to be a huge fan!! I enjoyed seeing how John, Declan and Levi are doing. Levi and his daughters are hilariously entertaining. I’ve been waiting for Bristow’s book since he’s such a character and I was not disappointed.
Thank you Victoria Paige for another fun, entertaining and edge of your seat story. I stayed up half the night to finish in one day just to find out who the bad guy(s) was. Sit back and enjoy this read as soon as you can!
Thala is not just the next in line to her country's matriarchal-led throne, she's also its badass protector who's as lethal as every other special forces operative around the globe, including our delightfully laid-back SEAL-trained spy, Hank. With both her life and that of her sister, the Queen, on the line, she's forced to accept the help of the Americans who show up out of nowhere to save her from an assassination attempt.
Hank and his team don't know who to trust, as even Thala could be trying to claim the throne and staging her own attack to divert suspicion. Still, Hank trusts his instincts and spirits her away, staying just a few steps ahead of the bullets, as he takes her to his secluded cabin where he has to deal with his own family drama surrounding his mother's property.
Of course the forced proximity leads to an incendiary romance, and I loved every bit of it. Thala is no typical damsel in distress and I loved her immediately. Hank has the patience of a saint, but even he is powerless against the dictates of her country's laws that forbid their romance, but that's not going to stop him from protecting her at all costs.
I loved seeing the gang in action again - Gabby, Declan, Garrison, and Levi are all on hand, along with several other high-level connections to characters we know from other books in this author's world. We get a triumphant HEA, even if it's a bit unconventional, and we even see a HEA for a secondary couple just to spread the joy around.
There's plenty of nail-biting action and steamy love scenes, all working together to create an unforgettable story that caps off an outstanding series. I highly recommend this book and everything this author has written. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I am so freaking happy that this book was all I imagined and more.
I “met” the hero, Hank Bristow, in the previous books in this series - not necessary to read before this one - and really felt like this happy-go-lucky guy, every woman's friend, deserved to have his own book and HEA. I was expecting Bristow to be the nice guy, the happy alpha but was surprised to read that there was something else about him….🤫
Now remember the above “all I imagined and more”? Welllllll, the heroine (Thala) had me grinning like a loon right along with Hank. In all my years of reading, Thala Targen is one thee most bada$$ MCs I've come across, yet the author managed to not overdo the character keeping it “believable”. Trust me, if you enjoy a heroine who wants a hero but certainly doesn't NEED a hero, this book is for you.
A quick word on the secondary characters, one in particular -> I love how Edgar isn't even human and no where close to what I would have imagined but oh so entertaining.
As for the writing, hat's off to the author for not only a great story but also keeping the writing easy to read and having what I call “mini-cliffhangers” throughout the book… I was engrossed from start till end.
Book stats: 👑 Entertaining Reverse Grumpy x Sunshine 👑 Forbidden Romance 👑 Dual pov 👑 STRONG Heroine 👑 Alpha Hero 👑 Medium burn but still steamy 👑 "Safe read" - no cheating / OW drama 👑 Standalone with HEA (epilogue included)
I can't believe I missed Bristow's book release last year. I was waiting eagerly for his book when I first met him in Garrison's book and boy does he exude golden retriever energy. The mystery and suspense in this book kept me on edge and hooked even though I could see the plot twist/ending a mile away.
The only reason why I didn't rate this a full 5 star was because of the third act conflict. How Bristow was so easily affected by his cousin was confusing for me. Like isn't a SEAL trained to feel...nothing? Uncle Jim said it the best: “What I don’t understand is how Christian managed to get to you. You’re a SEAL. I’d even hazard a guess you work for some black ops supersecret organization or maybe an international organization seeing how you’re overseas all the time. I don’t know if you guys have gone pussy,” he continued his rant. “How you let your sleazy, whiney cousin get to you. Didn’t they train you for mind games like this? What’s it called, PSYOPS?”
Anyway I loved Bristow & Thala together, but my favourite character has got to be Edgar the mule! The way he knew something was up when Uncle Jim got into trouble and charged in front of him to shield him from getting hurt. And I need a full novel for Queen Amadea & Ramsay's romance! Like from their POV through this whole episode 🥹
4.5 ⭐
“You’re playing with fire, Princess.” “Maybe I want to get a little burned.”
When Bristow saves Thala an overseas princess from being killed he ends up being assigned to protect her and make sure she was not behind the assassination attempt of her sister the queen. Thala is headstrong and a warrior and is reluctant to be protected especially be the man who has taken her to a cabin in a small town. The two get to know each other and Bristow and Thala learn there's more to one another than meets the eye. Thala is the most badass woman he has met and Bristow is a smart, handsome hacker, and spy. They start to casually hookup but when Thala's feelings grow complicated and Bristow pushes her away she leaves and returns to her own country. Soon Bristow goes after her only to discover she's been kidnapped and when he saves her he vows not to let her go. I loved how strong of a character Thala was, and how vulnerable she allowed herself to be around Bristow once she trusted him. Bristow being haunted by his parents failed relationship was heart breaking and I'm glad in the end he was able to see that his and Thala's relationship was different. I thought Bristow was a little more easy going than the other men in the series and I really liked him in the previous books also. I'm sad to see this series end but I'm happy with the way it wrapped up.

Holden ‘Hank Bristow’ Buchanan’s in LA to do a favor for his friend Garrison related to the visiting Queen and Princess of Venusstea though the job isn’t fleshed out yet. Warrior princess Thala ‘Ice Princess’ Targent slips out during the screening of a film documentary of her country and her sister, the Queen is shot. When Thala’s bodyguards hustle her away, Hank follows and finds Thalia holding her own as her bodyguards and pilot try to kill her.
Uncertain where the threat is from or who the target is, Hank decides Thalia is safest with him until answers and direction can be determined. Meanwhile, Hank’s torn on selling the family homestead to ambitious land developers who’ll stop at nothing to get what they want. Just as the team thinks they’ve gotten rid of the bad actors, it’s clear they haven’t. Rating: 4.25stars
What a great ending to the Rogue Protectors series. I loved that this book made me laugh out loud, had me mad at some points, had me in my feeling at others. Overall just great book. I loved Hank’s personality and how much he brought comedic relief to the book. That’s was such a strong female lead that you got to see a softer side of. Watching these two fall in love was something. I will say there were some twists that I was not expecting. I love books where I can’t predict the outcome.
The storyline was different. Which I think made it good. I have read so many of these authors books that I have realized.I may have read them all in a scattered order. But they're all good no matter what. Most of the books do have editor errors. But I think that is because she is putting them out so fast
The finale we were all waiting for, and wow, did it deliver!
The princess and the not-so-spook danced on the edge of danger, delivering a story packed with action, emotion, spice, and banter that had me laughing and crying.
Bristow’s journey was the perfect conclusion to this series, tying up loose ends while keeping me thoroughly entertained.
Victoria Paige does it again with her 6th book in the Rogue Protectors series. She weaves an intriguing tale of romance and political espionage. Good versus evil. Her characters are so likable that you feel like they are some one you are friends with. I recommend you give this series a try and other books by her you won’t be disappointed.
Main Characters: Hank Bristow & Princess Thala Targen
Review: I've liked Hank so it was nice getting his story. I liked both him and Thala, and it was fun to see all our team show up through out and at the end of this story.
