Kiera Johnson's life is like any normal teenagers; school exams, young love, strong friendships. Only her mother and close friends understand her inner battles. Suffering from repetitive nightmares of her best friend's death, Kiera finds herself wrapped in a depression that sends her close to the edge of sanity.
Until the strange dreams begin. Sights of a foreign world, a presence with a mysterious connection to her mind. Kiera learns of her origins, of a magical link she shares with this new world she never knew existed. Craziest of all is the claim of a hidden power that lays dormant within her; one that is only now surfacing; one she must hide from her friends and family in order to keep them safe.
As if that isn't confusing enough, she develops unforeseen desires towards her friend Damien. With his surfer blonde hair and a body to die for, what could honestly hold her back? Maybe the fact that he is the ex-boyfriend of her recently deceased friend. Struggling with her shame, Kiera finds herself gravitating towards Damien, seeking not only love, but a confidante that she can share her secrets and fears with.
Through a series of attacks Kiera is left vulnerable, her opponent aggressive, unrelenting. What does he want with her, what is she to him? Cornered, with no where to go, Kiera has only one option; to wield the power within her. Is she strong enough to control her new found powers, will they be enough to save her life?
Angela L. Clay was born in the city of Durban, South Africa, 1978. In 1984 she immigrated to Australia with her family, growing up in the Far North Queensland city of Cairns. And there she has stayed, now married with two crazy children.
From a young age Angela has imagined worlds of adventure and fantasy, playing them out in her mind over and over again. She is greatly excited to now have put pen to paper and created her debut novel Kyndryd, the first in her Kyndryd series.
Angela's passions are watching anime, reading a large variety of genres, including Paranormal, YA, Fantasy, Manga, Thriller and yes the occasional Romance Adult novel.
But her favourite down time is when she has a pencil in her hand sketching her favourite anime characters, sometimes even her own novel's characters.
On first look, nobody will tell that Keira Johnson, an ordinary teenager can also have an extraordinary life. Well, that's because you don't come across such characters everyday!
On the surface, she's a happy-go-lucky girl but deep inside she is having conflicts with unknown demons. What she is about to find out about herself and her family is spectacular to watch.
A teenage high school fantasy has a lot of enjoyment and entertainment to provide.Narrated in both third and first person, Kyndryd is an excellently written novel.
Angela's descriptive way of writing, her rich vocabulary and the flow of the story captivated me truly. What impressed me the most was the protagonist, Keira. Consistency with the story was another aspect that stirred positive feelings about the success of this novel.
You read books like Kyndryd and don't believe when someone says it's a debut book because every page of the book feels as if an expert has penned down.
With a series like Kyndryd, Angela L. Clay has established her name as one of the most talented authors in the literary arena.
I have enjoyed her work thoroughly. I can't wait to see the second installment.
I must say that I am a lady of few words and never really write reviews :) I absolutely loved Kyndryd!!!! I started reading it on kindle and then my paperback copy arrived from Amazon so I continued on. I read it in 3 days which is VERY fast for me - a busy pregnant Mum who wakes in the middle of the night with the book on my head.... I really love the way Angela writes - her descriptive language drew me in and the main character Kiera captivated me. I CANNOT wait until the next book :) Congratulations Angela on a terrific read - you will go far :)
The start of Kyndryd introduced me to a fantasy realm thick with vivid description, but it was only a tease, a taste of more to come. The bulk of the story centers around Keira who is still haunted by the death of her best friend. It follows her as she deals with attempting to return to 'normal' life, while dealing with strange dreams and confusing voices in her head. As the story continues it hints at parts of Keira's life previously kept hidden from her. I cannot say more without revealing too much but the way the two worlds connect was not something I was expecting and that always pleases me. I found the style of writing easy to read and it flowed nicely. I look forward to the next book coming out.
Spectacular Debut!! A fascinating story line about a girl discovering her family roots and the the powers that laid dormant inside her, all whilst falling in love. Love the Fantasy world that Angela has created,
Good strong characters, with fluid consistency through out the whole book.
"Kyndryd" is a stirring, raw and emotional teen high fantasy novel from talented debut author Angela L. Clay.
The story incorporates both third and first person narratives and weaves together elements of high fantasy (an ancient enemy, shadow guards, a mythical guardian creature, long-hidden telepathic and healing abilities, an ancient birthright of sorcery, an Elvish-style language) with a very contemporary Far North Queensland beachside setting that includes very real, Aussie teens dealing with domestic violence, grief and the heady rushes of first love.
I only wish that some of Clay's extraordinary artworks could have formed part of the text. Eagerly awaiting "Phadesh" (Book 2) as "Kyndryd" ends on a killer cliffhanger.
