The black-and-white pictures are for under-6-month-olds. While they cannot sit up straight, it is hard to show the pictures while reading books to babies this age. Babies over 6 months quickly lose interest in black-and-white pictures and prefer coloured ones. This book features animals commonly seen in Australia, but some are too generic, e.g., the lizard, the frog, and the rabbit. It would be much better if it were coloured and included only native Australian animals with their names. For example, using "blue-tongue lizard" instead of "lizard".

another great developmentally appropriate, high contrast option for babies with fun pictures that are a step up from simple contrast cards. i liked that this story was written with questions and answers. i stopped to speak about the different types of animals i could see and how the way their legs are constructed helps them bounce. could my baby understand me? no, but i like exposing him to different vocabulary.

Got this because I like the art. But I agree with the comment that the rabbit probably shouldn't have been included as it isn't a native Aussie animal. However I do love rabbits and it is a bouncy animal, so I get why it was, especially if this wasn't meant to be a book about naive animals, but just animals Australia has. Oher than that. I loved this book.

This book would have got a higher rating, but the last page, the animal is a rabbit. They're not an Australian animal, a pest that is in Australia yes, but not an Australian animal.
