Spring 1883 heralds a season of burgeoning hope in Blackwater. The once lawless frontier, now shepherded by former outlaw James Casper and the veteran Sheriff Everett Gray, braces for the tides of change brought by the impending railroad. But as the town whispers of progress and new beginnings, a shadow looms on the horizon.
Penelope Critchley, matriarch of the largest ranch in southern Wyoming, and her cadre of lethal gunslingers, forge plans of their own, threatening to unravel Blackwater's hard-earned peace.
In this electrifying fourth installment of The Chronicles of James Casper, lines are drawn and allegiances tested as the battle for the soul of Blackwater escalates. Be prepared for a tale where grit, gunpowder, and betrayal converge in the fight for tomorrow.
Hold onto your hats—Blackwater's reckoning is at hand!
The Battle for Blackwater is a stellar ending to The Chronicles of James Casper. Is there room for more adventure in the future? Yes, of course. However, with the fourth book in the series, many of the unanswered questions are resolved, and we observe various people grow "more so" in whatever particular bent they had.
James faces a couple of different people from his past, and as he does, he learns more about himself as well as the other along the way. Forgiveness, trust, broken promises, ownership of wrong doing... it's all in there. I was sad to see the series end, and really hope that Sullivan Stone will write some more adventures for James and company.
This story was well written and interesting, but although it was described as 'electrifying' I did not feel that it ever reached that level of tension or excitement.
