Pack Dutton #2

Pack Dutton: Part 2

Rate this book
I found my forever pack, but now I need them to find me.
After spending years locked in a cult, my pack found me in my darkest hour. But now I’m back in their clutches, and I need my men to find me once more. Each one completes a part of me I didn’t know had been missing.

Crew: the boy next door who stole my heart.
Kellan: my wild alpha whose tendency to go feral is definitely a turn-on.
Rhett: the soft spoken Brit who has a backbone of steel.
Jude: our beta who keeps us all sane.

They found me once, and I know they’ll find me again. A love like ours can’t be stopped, can’t be broken. Not even if we have to burn the world down to claim our forever.

Pack Dutton: Part 2 is a dark, why choose omegaverse novel, meaning the FMC ends up with multiple loves. It contains dark themes (including abuse, violence, and language) that may be upsetting to some readers, so please read responsibly. There are spicy scenes containing MMFMM with both MF and MM relationships. This book is a continuation of Part 1 and concludes Pack Dutton’s story.

My chief complaint about this book is similar to the last one. Hazel goes through an intensely traumatic experience and then there are no lasting emotional consequences.

Less than 24 hours after the bad guys urinate on her and ejaculate on her to humiliate her, and then rape another poor girl and make her watch… they are having sex. Their sex includes acts that were used to threaten Hazel. The bad guys told her that if they knotted her ass, it would tear open. They liked to knot the mouth of her friend to hurt him. But Hazel doesn’t hesitate to let her pack do these things. After that, they joke about peeing on her. I mean… it hasn’t even been a full day.

Hazel’s pack is extremely patronizing and infantilize her nonstop. They repeatedly override her decisions and opinions. They don’t share information with her because it might stress her out.

The book ends on a depressing note. The bad guys win and more Omega rights are taken away. Hazel and her pack talk about that, then spend the rest of the book having sex. I mean… hearing about my rights being stripped away doesn’t normally put me in the mood, but nothing really gets in the way of these characters having sex.

I love love love book one. While I did enjoy this one, it just didn't match up to my love for book one.

It starts immediately where book one left off, which I really enjoyed. You also learn a bit more about Pack Stone, which was 👀👀👀. I'll most definitely be reading their book.

My biggest with this one was the pacing. So much happened that it didn't feel there was really time to delve into the details. It felt like a lot of the development, plot and character, happened more off page. I would have loved to know more details and have things slowed down. I truly think this should have been a trilogy. I wouldn't have been able to rate it anything other than five stars.

It was absolutely not a bad book by any means and I would definitely recommend if you liked book one. I'll for sure be checking out her next book.

I liked the story of this with the politics but felt like nothing really happened. I thought the s*x scenes were way too long and meh, I basically skipped them.
Overall I liked the actual story and it left me wondering more about the universe but I could have done without all the s*x

3.5 stars! Part 2 picks up right where Part 1 left off and what a wild ride! My favorite part of the whole book had to be watching Hazel grow into the strong, confident woman she was meant to be despite the horrors in her life. Her and Pack Dutton were so damn good together and so delicious I just couldn’t put it down. I do feel that the plot was rushed and we never really got to see what was happening with some of it but maybe it’ll be expanded upon in the next book that will follow Pack Stone. All in all this was a great read and a great conclusion to Pack Dutton!

I am so happy this book picks up right after the cliffy of book 1, because I did not want to miss a thing. So much happens it’s completely full speed from the first chapter. I devoured this book so quickly. I won’t go into details because I don’t want to spoil ANYTHING.

Seriously this author never disappoints. She has made an Omegaverse that I am so in love with and I cannot wait for more.

Standing ovation for Megan Cain, the Pack Dutton duet was phenomenal. Perfect amounts of dark and all the Alpha and Omega deliciousness I could ask for! There’s so much more of this world I need like Pack Stone and Calla and Baby Pack Anders and Logan - I can’t wait to see what else Megan writes.

It was a little boring and cheesy at times but overall a sweet story with alphas completely obsessed with their omega.
There is technically a HEA, but there are a lot of unfinished storylines. What happened to Logan and Ophelia? Donnovan’s second in command Hayden went missing, and he was just never mentioned again?

Book 1:
Hazel is born a beta but presents as an omega age 18. Following her parents’ death she is sold by her uncle to a cult run by Alpha Donnovan who wants to impregnante and mate her. Before he is able to, Pack Dutton (Crew, Kellan, Rhett) rescues Hazel with the help of their beta Jude (undercover as Morris) from inside. Pack Dutton quickly recognizes Hazel as their scent match, and she recognizes Crew as her childhood best friend’s (Callie) big brother.

The pack takes Hazel home and helps her through her heat. Immediately after, the government tries to apprehend Hazel so they can control which pack she will belong to. Before they are able to take her, Donnovan and his men kidnap her and disappear across state borders.

Book 2:
Donnovan and his brother Hayden plan to bond Hazel and make a pack. Copying the beginning of the book, Hazel evades them right before they mate her. She runs into the forest where Rhett finds her and takes her to help calm a feral Crew. It is revealed that Donnovan was killed fighting against her pack, but Hayden has gone missing.

Pack Dutton moves to California where Omegas have more rights. They move into Hazel’s family home which had been kept up by Crew’s mother.

Wow!! Pack Dutton Part 2 is a great read. I’ve waited not so patiently to find out what happens with Hazel, Crew, Kellan, Rhett, and Jude. This is the second book as it picks up right where book one ended with Hazel being kidnapped from the cult that held her captive when she was younger.

This story is a very intense on the edge of your seat read that takes many different plot twists and intense moments. The emotions run high in this story and I couldn’t read this fast enough to get through the book. I read the book in 2 days!

We learn more about Pack Stone. We also meet and learn more about Rhett and Crew’s families.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ with ⚔️

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

“You came for me,” I managed to choke out between crying. His arms tightened around me. “We will always come for you, Hazel.”

‘I mean, what girl wouldn’t be distracted by shiny, sparkly things on a massive . . . ?’

“Just as I tumbled head first off a cliff into the abyss, a golden thread wrapped around me and pulled me back. A thread that lead straight back to Kellan.” (Swoon)
‘Oh, sweet baby penguins. That sentence was enough to incinerate the polar ice caps.”

‘. . .and a pink box with what I already knew were my favorite cookies. “I love this place,” I said, grinning as I lifted the box lid and eyed all the different cookies. They were the size of my fist and the store’s menu changed each week, making it a fun surprise to see what new goodies I got to enjoy.’

‘“This is liquid gold,” Kellan spluttered, taking another drink. “Natty Boh is the only beer worth consuming.” = IYKYK

‘Truth be told, I’d always dismissed the idea of scent matches and fated matches to . . . romance authors created. Perfection didn’t exist in the real world; it was why people turned to fiction for their happily ever afters. And while we were further from our own HEA than I wanted to admit, maybe all those authors and artists and musicians were really onto something. Because the way I felt now that Hazel was part of our pack was transcendent.” THIS!!!!!

Pack Dutton part 2....I have mixed feelings about this book. Did I enjoyed it? Yes I did, very much so, actually. But do I think there were some issues that bothered me a bit? Also yes....but bear with me until the end, here, because even if I am about to talk about said issues, I still gave a positive review to this book, so fallow me until the end of this rant.

This book had everything to be a 5 stars. It had the romance, its reverse HR so very good spice, had a good plot and the pace of the story was good. But then there were times when I thought it was a bit repetitive, giving us information we already knew from book one, and kind of trying to pass it as new information. There was a lot that could have been taken out in lieu of new stuff, which brings me to my second issue with the book. The ending....
The story was building and building and at the end (of a book that was supposed to be the end of pack Dutton journey) we didn't get much, it was all so rushed. So many lose ends to tie up, so many questions without answers. By the end of the book I felt like we didn't get any conclusion at all. It just felt like the book was left in the middle. Now, do I understand a part of that is because the author wants to keep some of the plot for the spin-offs with the other characters? Yes I got that and I am absolutely here for it, can't wait for those stories. But still, I wished we got more especially because I feel like some of the answers left up in the air, belonged to Hazel. I would have been happy with just a mention of those few issues left unsolved so we knew those things were not forgoten but no, no mention, its like those things don't matter anymore. Some important character's fate is also left in question, by the end, without any mentions or hints.
This makes me sad because overall I really enjoyed this book and these things ruined the ending a bit for me.

Still, I am not the type to bring down a review that much for only 10% of a 400 page book and as I said, I really liked this story and most part of the book, so I brought my review from 5 to 3.75 (4 to round up). I still recommend this series, and I think the next books (spin-offs) will be absolutely amazing and finish all these questions left in the air. I absolutely loved the side characters as much as the main ones so I have no doubts their stories will also be amazing.

Love love love the duttons

I loved this duology. It was fast paced and kept my attention. It has everything I love. An omegaverse, damsel in distress, great character development, alpha males. I loved that this picks up right where book 1 ended.

Hazel is once again taken by the APA but there's a lot more to the picture. Alot of big players in the game. This book explains more about how Hazel becomes an Omega even though she was born a beta and it also dives into more political turmoil. I loved that we got more time with some secondary characters such as Rhett's family, Logan, pack stone, and Calla.

I do feel like this should have been a trilogy. There were quite a few details that I would have enjoyed more information on. And the bad guys do win at the end despite pack Dutton opening the omega retreat. The president enacts more rules to supress omegas and they continue to sell Omegas off to the highest bidders. However, I see the next book will be about pack stone. So I suspect that we'll get some more answers in that book.

In addition, Hazel once again gets assaulted and degraded while in the hands of the APA. Of course pack Dutton comes to the rescue, but Hazel gets over this trauma way too quickly in my opinion. Actually there was no trauma in her eyes. She just goes about everyday life and seems fine despite the things she got subjected to. I would have liked to see a little more here instead of her just getting over it.

Despite this, I would recommend this series. I love the way Megan writes. She has a way of grabbing you and pulling you in. I'll definitely be waiting for the next book.

We return to Pack Dutton and their Omega, Hazel!!
At the end of book one, Hazel was taken by the High Lord Donovan heading back to the APA, and her Alphas were being held at the Bureau for questioning. Luckily, we don't have to stress too much with Hazel being held captive, again.
However, that doesn't stop the ride we go on after Hazel is rescued. The story then has us finding out there are other villians at play - betas are being genetically changed to omegas, corrupt government, and the oppression of omegas.
With Hazel being one - a beta changed omega, she now has to navigate Pack life and her Omega hormones. She begins to really build her life with her pack and it was great seeing them able to bond together, while also navigating the struggles of uncovering the secret the lab that's changing betas, dealing with frustrating family members, and finding ways to save omegas.
We get to see some familiar faces and also get to meet new people and packs. We get some insight into Logan - where he landed, how he's doing, and a possible story coming our way with a potential pack. We get some secrets shared by Crew's younger sister and Hazel's best friend, Calla. Calla's story looks to be next to come, and I'm so excited about the Pack she will be winning over.
Just like book one, Megan Cain brought us a great story! I'm so happy to read the conclusion for Hazel, but I'm so excited to keep the adventure going with future stories of our beloved omegas and their packs - and the takedown of a corrupt government.

I kinda wonder if it hurt when the narrative rammed nose-first into its own plot and all the characters suddenly had to switch from "you're the MOST special because you're an omega!" "No need to worry your precious head or breathe, eat or shit on your own, you're an omega!" "We'll always put your welfare above every other living thing on this planet because you're our perfect fuck to... oh, um omega!"

To "oh, no it's not that you're an omega, it's that you're... um... you! Right. You'd be special anyway darling, of course. But... like... don't change back, OK?"

I know the idea is that the person reading is supposed to identify as the main character so when everyone goes on and ON about how omegas are SO special and precious and should be cherished and protected... not caged *exactly* but kept really really safe, and maybe they can wipe their own asses if they ask nicely... the reader should feel all warm and fuzzy because it's just like a handsome man is threatening to murder children for HER. Who wouldn't want everyone else in the world to die screaming so they could have some hot sex with someone they've known for a week but absolutely love? Wow, for sure me.

It's gross. And it's a shame because, clichés aside, the book itself is fine. It has some interesting ideas that could work really well in a gritty setting. The Beta born omegas, the politics, the cult... it would have all been really fun if not for the underlying, bright red thread of "some people are worth more than others because of biology".

That's gross no matter which way you cut it.

Taken once again by the cult that had held her captive and abused her for years, Hazel is scared but convinced her pack will come for her. They rescued her once; she just needs to hold on, and they will rescue her again. Then she is determined to get them to bite her so they can get their happily ever after. If only it were that easy!

Beware, there are startling echoes in the plot to the politics of today. Since current stances and legislations have always influenced literature, I have no issue with this; however, if you are trying to avoid all thought of US politics, you may want to hold off on this one. The main theme alternates between the pack love and Omega rights. I love the idea of the beta-turned-Omega experimentation and the insidious administration and corporation behind it, but we didn't get much more than the initial setup. Even with the demise of the cult, it's clear the 'bad guys' have the advantage at the moment, and Omegas have become increasingly restricted. My main complaint with the story is the sex. Hazel is kidnapped, terrorized, degraded, and forced to witness a rape on her behalf. Immediately following her rescue, she's having sex with some of the same acts with her pack, and they are making comments that would trigger her after her experience. Clearly, not trauma-informed, not to mention distasteful. The sex took up too much of the story time, leaving the aforementioned underdeveloped plot line and an abrupt ending. There's no true conclusion, so it's a HEA for now.

Picking up where the last book left off, Hazel isn’t in a great place. Kidnapped by the cult that held her captive for years, she can only survive until her pack finds her. Because she knows that Crew, Kellan, Rhett, and Jude won’t stop looking for her. She has finally found a place she belongs and she won’t give it up. But things aren’t so simple even when this pack is united once more. The mystery behind Hazel being an omega who was born a beta is answered and there is a bigger terrible plot going on than any of them imagined. They’ll find unexpected allies and more enemies the deeper they dive to find the truth of it all. But together, they will keep one another safe and fight for their happy ending. Everyone has come so far in this book. I loved watching Hazel grow and find her footing after so much trauma. She truly has found a place to belong. And I loved all these guys! You can’t help but love them and there is no way to pick a favorite. I was looking forward to getting this back after that major cliffhanger and it didn’t disappoint! This again is my first omegaverse world and there is no one better than Megan (aka Hannah) that I would truth to enter it with. Her world only gets more interesting and by the looks of it, it isn’t over. Looks like another pack will be getting a story soon and hopefully we will continue to see how this world develops after everything that has happened so far. I’m looking forward to it!

This book picks up right where book number one left off. It is not a standalone, so you need to read the fist one before picking this one up. Anyone who knows me knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with cults, so of course I loved this story and the fact that Hazel is back in the clutches of the cult leaders. The difference is that this time her pack are fighting to get her back. And the fight tooth and nail, getting help from others, in order to get what is theirs back.

One of the things that I like the most about Omegaverse stories is the way a group of very different individuals all come together to build a strong family unit. Each pack member has their own strengths and weaknesses, and when they all come together, they complement each other. That’s what we see with Pack Dutton. They each contribute to the pack and Hazel fits in perfectly. I especially love Omegaverse stories where it is not just a connection between the omega and the alphas, but also connections within the men of the pack and a Beta that is not just glossed over. That’s what we get with Pack Dutton.

This book is deliciously spicy. Like most why choose books, you will not feel like this story lacks for spicy scenes. It also has action, emotions, and the true connection of the pack. This was a great ending to this duet and I was not disappointed.

My thoughts from the first book have pretty much remained the same. There were lots of points in this book that dragged on, and the last few chapters I majorly skimmed. I was more interested in every other pack and omega in this book than the main characters. Once again we had someone else horribly abused in front of hazel, but even worse bc she was literally never spoken of or heard from again. Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but if you want these things in your book and have the main character be “traumatized” by them, have the stones to actually have your main character go through them. Like I rolled my eyes at the end when she was like “if I can do it you can too” like girl you had bad things happen to you yes but the worst stuff never did??

And similarly with Logan we got to see him one time, I’m sooooo interested in seeing what he and thane’s packs story would be like. Also sad that the pack stone book has been shelved for the foreeable future, while this duology had a lot of issues I do think it was enjoyable enough for me to try and read other books in this world. The politics thing was kinda rough, but at least there was an attempt to make a difference with the sanctuary.

I received this free eARC novel from the author. This is my honest review.

Hazel's story with Crew, Kellan, Rhett and Jude was just as fantastic in part 2 as it was in part 1! I love how each character has their own personality and how it all meshes so well with the 5 of them together!

I also love that we get to meet more of the side characters in this book including Pack Stone! And Thane? That was a wonderful surprise that I feel I need more of!

Rhett's parents are awful. I can't stand any of them and wish bad things towards them. Calla needs her story told. I need her to find her HEA because she seems so lost and forcing herself to be what everyone around her wants to be. It breaks my heart.

I'm so glad after all Hazel has gone through, she's in a great place with her pack. She made it through her nightmare to find her dreams come true. I may have had moments where the hornet was rough to read, but I'm so glad I devoured her story and that I'm immersed into this world! I can't wait for the next installment because the overall arch is just getting started and I need to see that system shut down.

This duet literally owns me!

I’ve been counting the days for this sequel since I finished book one and it did not disappoint! This duet literally owns me. When I was not reading the book, I was thinking about the characters. It’s been a week since I finished and I’m still thinking about them. I lost a lot of sleep during those first chapters because I needed to know what was going to happen with my beloved characters.

Can I just take a minute to emphasize the spice? Oh. My. Goodness. So hot my kindle melted. My favorite books to read have great plots and five hot chili pepper spice. Man, does Cain deliver, but it doesn't end there. There are unexpected allies as well as enemies. The twists and turns took me on an emotional ride I won’t soon forget.

Cain’s writing is rich and her world building is immersive. The characters practically leap off the page. If Hazel was a real person, I’d want to be her friend. She’s gone through so much, but her resilience is inspiring. This book is edgy and intense. It will hold you captive until you finish.

I’m excited for Pack Stone and beyond! Megan Cain has become my one click author!

A seeming conclusion to this group, this novel brings a HEA to Hazel, Crew, Rhett, Kellan, and Jude’s story. Picking up where we left off at the end of part 1; here, we go on the hunt for Hazel and her surviving her abduction by her old pack.

I loved seeing Hazel and her men just growing closer and closer and fighting for their love and need of one another.

From parents to society to secret organization and everything in between, these five fight for their right to be together and for Omegas to have the freedom to decide what to do to and with their bodies (sound familiar to todays political culture?).

I enjoyed the peeks into the Crew family and the dads. Hazel’s uncle is trash. The other family info we see and can glean are fun tidbits into the men.

Seems like an overarching storyline was introduced in this duo and it will be continued over other books but I could be wrong. Just be aware that not *everything* is tied up in a bow at the end.

Please note triggers are heavy in this one which include but are not limited to: MM ⚔️, human trafficking, lack of bodily autonomy, FMC’s attempted and other’s s3xual @ssault, attempted and completed mürder.

I received an ARC in exchange for a review:

I tend to be very picky about my authors and books. The books that interest me the most have the sexual tension and plot cadence balanced. The plot also needs to be well developed and characters defined. Ms. Cain delivers on all points, with tension and plot! While things happen to keep the story going they are not drawn out or over done, however the last one to two “events” feel excessive but do help to drive the next chapters.

Ms. Cain does a great job of blending these elements. In OV, many characteristics can get lost but she keeps them on point and more defined as the story unfolds.

The plot and tension are delicious! Adored how Ms. Cain allowed the ABO instincts to happen and interact within the characters and story. Betas matter!

The world building surrounding the plot is detailed and I cannot wait to see what happens next (think Pelican Brief style conspiracy here, so delish!). The setup for the next book was an ABSOLUTE tease ma’am! I am here for it.

A continuation that honestly became a little underwhelming.

We pick up right where we left the last book. With the reemergence of issues that made this feel a bit repetitive right from the start.

The characters don't feel like they evolved much from one book to the next making it honestly feel like these two parts should be only one book put together. But honestly they were the highlight of this series.

We get introduced to more problems with bigger consequences that impact the whole society of this book (that honestly felt a little close to home). These were bigger issues than the previous ones but given this is the hopeful start of a series they did not get solved, so they only served to make the bleak situations in this world feel unsurmountable and frustrating.

Overall, I felt underwhelmed with this, because the issues from the first book were mostly resolved right at the start of this one and then we had to wait until almost the end to see the culmination of the others, this felt like it really went nowhere.

I have been waiting for the final book in the Pack Dutton journey since I finished book 1! Hannah did not disappoint. I devoured this book in 24 hours and loved it!

Part 2 picks up right where part 1 stopped. Hazel is kidnapped and the guys are injured and/or detained. Even going through hell, Hazel keeps faith in her pack and believes they’ll come for her. To no one’s surprise, Crew, Kellen, Rhett, and Jude fought tooth and nail to get to Hazel

In this book we see the Dutton pack lean heavily on allies, Pack Stone. You can’t help but fall in love with them, too! (Can’t wait for their story!!) Rhett finally confronts his family dynamic- loved seeing relationship strengthen with that!

I loved how their ending turned out. I wish we could have seen more of the omega rescue, but hopefully we have more in the coming books!

I absolutely loved this dark omega verse! I’m excited to see what comes for Pack Stone and if Calla finally gets her pack 😉

This duet! 😱 I have been anticipating part 2 since the stressful cliffy in part 1 and this duet did not disappoint! It was more than I expected when I jumped in and it sunk its teeth into me, not letting me sleep or even breathe sometimes!

We met Hazel in book 1 as a captive to a cult after her uncle sells her. If that’s not bad enough, she surprisingly switched from being a beta to an omega while being held against her will, which made her situation escalate. And while she is rescued, we see her (and others) in danger at the end of book 1.

So as I’m having heart palpitations within the first pages of part 2 trying to figure out how this situation can be solved and how Hazel won’t have the worst fate… oh I won’t tell you much 😉 just know there is an HEA and more plot twists in book 2!

And the spice is spicing!! Holy moly these men do not do mediocre when it comes to spicy times. And lovable jokester Jude (beta) continued to crack me up and bring some fun to the dynamic. Crew, Kellen and Rhett were the perfect Alphas and so unique in their own rights. How they all come together in this book and further their relationship was worth every page.

The suspense in this book has me wanting more and with how the plot plays out, I know we will be diving deeper in future books and I will be there at first notice to gobble the story up!

I did receive an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

All that being said…I’m glad Hazel got her pack. This book picks up where book 1 ended, and there are quite a few triggers, so readers, please beware.

Overall, I enjoyed reading the story. Omegaverse aspects such as designations, heats, etc are right up my alley. And boy were some of **those** scenes fan worthy. I’m also happy with the ending and could see where more books would be written in this world with a few of the side characters.

However, there were a few moments for me that I did not enjoy—such as some of the political aspects and obviously the abusive cult. For the most part, I was able to enjoy everything else happening to not let the not-so-favorable parts of the book get to me.

All in all, I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an omegaverse story. But please remember to read the first book first.

More Pack Dutton

Action, danger, swoon-worthy alphas, and a strong omega at the center. This second book steps right into it with Hazel in the hands of fanatical AP group that had her in the first book. Pack Dutton is being detained and will do whatever they need to save her.
But saving her is just the start of the maze of lies, deceit, and an agenda that Hazel is somehow a part of. There is so much more to her story and how she ended up with AP group...way more.

This second book was so intense. And I loved all the mysteries and the unknowns throughout the book. There are lots of great moments with the pack and their devotion to her is really touching. Things came together so well, but not everything was wrapped up. There is more to this story and I'm thrilled that it looks like some of the characters tied to Pack Dutton will get to help add to this omegaverse. I look forward to reading Calla's story next.

I loved the first part - the concept, the intensity, the storyline, the darkness of the plot and the characters. I couldn't believe how the second part of the duet turned out. I felt like I was reading something completely different. The world building raised questions that remained unanswered and unresolved. The story felt rushed to me and the ending absolutely surprising with its abruptness. One of the biggest disappointments was the tiny bit of attention for Logan . When someone was vital to the survival of your sanity, your only friend and companion, he should have received more than fleeting attention. It felt like he was an annoying nuisance to Hazel and her pack, who somehow found a moment for him anyway. The s€x scenes took up many precious pages without adding to the emotional depth of the story. If someone is more interested in heat and spice and the world building is just an afterthought, then it's a good read.
