This was a mixed bag, for me. Lots and lots of details with unfamiliar names. Shorts descriptions of events and people. The part on Harper’s Ferry was very interesting. There are also some very funny explanations of skirmishes and later what happened to the people. I did highlight a lot of the unusual/comical descriptions. One page may have 10 different short comments about soldiers. It was worth ready. It is more like a diary or newspaper-type of writing. The guy who wrote it was there at Harper’s Ferry so that was a plus. It got to be a slog for me after a while. Not being able to identify with all people in the short descriptions. It was almost like reading a newspaper.
I’m not sorry I read it and I may come come back to some of the hilarious stories but I doubt I would read this again. However, as a fan of Civil War stories, it is worth having.

Fascinating

I've visited Harper's Ferry many times and found this book to be so interesting and filled with information of which I had no previous knowledge. My next visit will be seen in a new light

Got it in Harper's Ferry, it's a fun souvenir. Reading the book was not amazing, but there are enough gems in there to keep an interested party coming back for more.

Very interesting to have an account of Brown's raid and of the Civil War from a man who was there, but it doesn't make for casual reading 120 years later.

A good story written long ago of the history of Harpers Ferry. Interesting how they viewed things back in the civil war days. I enjoyed the reading of this story very much. Having visited there sparked my interest of the history of the area.
