A young Namite's journey to defy fate risks her soul for her brother's return; one misstep could turn the world to darkness.
In a land where the sands whisper ancient secrets and the enigmatic Namites make their home, Zara's heartache propels her on a perilous journey through the treacherous Aesulyn desert. She seeks the legendary Book of Ka Sa'ra, hoping to undo the cruel twist of fate that claimed her brother. With each step, she teeters on the brink of forbidden realms, where the quest for salvation could mean the loss of her very soul.
Beside her, Kael, a warrior with a past shrouded as the desert night, becomes an unlikely ally. His strength is laced with mystery, just as his past is veiled in shadows. Together, they must navigate a labyrinth of deceit and hidden truths, where allies are indistinguishable from foes, and trust is as scarce as water.
"Cryptic Dunes" invites readers to unravel a menagerie of love and loss woven by destiny's fickle hand. Will Zara's journey through the shifting sands restore what was lost, or will the desert claim more than she dared to give? The magic that stirs beneath the dunes is as powerful as it is dangerous—defying the very order of life and death. But at what cost does such power come, and what will the sands demand in return?

This story followed Zara, on a quest to find the lost book of Ka Sa’Ra, holding magical properties to restore her brother Haji to life. Guided by her magical mentor, Chigaru, and accompanied by companion Kael, along the way she encountered a magical pendant, as well as the book she was seeking, and challenged along the way by Volthar.
What I liked about this book is that it featured non-human characters: Zara and Kael, etc were actually Jackal like beings. Humans and other humanoid beings such as Fae actually only factored into the story on occasion. This different perspective made the story stand out from other recent reads.
Although I would say this is a short book, I didn’t find it an especially quick read. I found myself coming back to it in bursts in between other reads. I think I found some parts of the journey more introspective for Zara, maybe, and kept reading in bursts to get to the action, then paused before picking it up again. The action intensified more towards the end with the conflict with the evil Volthar, so I enjoyed it for the most part.
