Wednesday Nights

Rate this book
For as long as Haylee can remember, she’s been a people-pleaser, forsaking her own needs for the sake of others. Would it be so bad to have one night a week to herself? A night where she can forget about the outside world and lose herself in the arms of a beautiful woman.

Angela is done with relationships. Fine dining and fancy dates are as unappealing as explaining her reasons why. Her appetite craves but one thing—intimacy without the confines of commitment.

When the two women’s lives intersect, the spark is instant, the heat undeniable. A connection forms where passion reigns free and feelings are checked at the bedroom door.

Before long, the line Angela drew between commitment and no-strings-attached is so blurred she can no longer see it.

Thrust into an emotional maelstrom that could destroy or strengthen their connection, Haylee is faced with the question—is it time to put herself first? Despite the casualties?

A spicy, thought-provoking, lesbian romance set against the stunning backdrop of Tauranga, New Zealand.

I haven’t written a review in a long time and actually thought I stopped writing them for good. Words have left me and it just felt pointless. But then I came across this book. A book that is different in the most positive way. A book that contains so many topics I relate to. It just felt so personal that something inside of me told me, you need to put down your thoughts on paper or more like in your device.

I won’t say too much about the story. First of all I don’t wanna reveal anything and also always believe you need to read every story by yourself without spoilers to get the full experience. What I can say is that this story contains lovable and three-dimensional characters. Characters you could meet every day in your life. Characters you can relate to because they are not perfect (like none of us is).

This story will challenge readers. It will make you think about how much we judge others about topics that actually don’t have anything to do with us. Especially how fast we are to judge if something doesn’t seem like the norm. If we can’t put it in a box. And I’m not speaking from the perspective of being the person who judged others. I’m speaking from the perspective of having been judged many times. So somehow this story made me feel less alone.

How Donna has built up this story and how she has woven tiny but important details once again in it always amazes me. How she has drawn me in right from the start and then found the perfect pace once again to keep me captivated until the end. Just like she surprises me in every book in the best possible way. And when you know Donna Jay you also know there will be BDSM elements. Again described in the most sensual way.

To make this short I love everything about this story and hope many others are going to read it, because it deserves to be read and talked about. And hopefully it will also encourage many readers to think about some things.

I couldn’t recommend this book any more and I’m just grateful for authors like Donna.

Get comfortable and let me tell you a story….
There were so many things flying around in my head when I finished reading Wednesday Nights. Like: you never know what life will bring; take a chance; when do you start thinking about yourself and not others; what are your needs even when you are essentially a pleaser; or what would I do in that situation?
For those of us who know Donna Jay’s writing, we expect to see kink, hot sex and lovers working through their issues to a HEA ending. For sure you will experience this within this novel but I think you get something more. Angela and Haylee are wonderful characters and their story will pull you in and take you on a journey I am sure you will enjoy.
Do yourself a favour and get a copy of Wednesday Nights!

I received an ARC for an honest and fair review

This book sits in the top echelon of my favorite books by Donna Jay. The story was very original, serious, smoothly written and very cleverly told about two ladies who meet on a dating app, both looking for an uncomplicated arrangement. Angela was intrigued to meet “Sweet Lucy,” and soon, a saucy relationship arrangement was set for every Wednesday night.
Angela was suspicious about something, and when it became apparent that Haylee (aka, Sweet Lucy) was hiding a secret, the storyline opened, creating some intriguing twists and possibilities that kept me wondering, because things really could have gone in any direction. That’s all I can say without spoiling it, and I definitely want others to enjoy it as it happens.
I’m not typically a fan of BDSM, but this book contained something distinct, a role-playing, sexy scenario that was definitely innovative, creative and very hot.
Donna Jay’s books are unique, easy to follow and always capture my attention and imagination. This one is definitely a winner.

Every time I read a Donna Jay book, I think this one is my favorite. Well, I have a new favorite. Donna has a way with words. She also has a way with people's emotions, characters, and feelings. In this story, I got so involved with both MC's. Angela and Haylee are both looking for connections with no strings attached. But sometimes you get more than you are looking for. There is a touch of mystery. Some spicy, hot scenes. With a hint of BDSM. One of the main things with Donna's book is how much I learn about New Zealand. As they travel to different locations that we get a great description of. I still Google to learn more. I highly recommend my new favorite till Donna's next book.

Wednesday Nights is a steamy no-strings romance. I appreciated Ms. Jay putting a different spin on the no-strings arrangement as it made the story a lot deeper, providing readers ample fuel to reflect people’s feelings and motivations during truly difficult circumstances. The chemistry between Angela and Haylee is off the charts and in true Donna Jay fashion the steamy scenes are smoking.

Donna Jay brings us another steamy romance. This is a little unconventional in topic. However, I believe the way it was done worked out well. The angst in the book was to be expected,  and handled timely and well resolved.

Jay does steamy well. Her chemistry is outstanding.  I enjoyed watching the characters develop separately and as a couple.

I truly enjoy the books Donna Jay writes, and i will look forward to more in the future.

Whenever you pick up a new Donna Jay novel, you know you're in for a fantastic read. There are certain things she does very well - realistic characters, convincing drama, genuine relationships, and fabulous friends - that you can always count on. Then, of course, there are the things you don't know - the erotica-to-romance ratio, the lesbian/bisexual mix, and the nature of the subtle but well-orchestrated themes - that are so much fun to discover.

Wednesday Nights is one of her lovers-to-friends romances, and I loved how proudly and confidently it moves from casual sex and exploratory BDSM kink, uncomplicated by feelings, to the first realizations of romance. The titular nights were never supposed to be about anything more than no-strings-attached intimacy, but Haylee and Angela are so perfectly paired, it's not a question of if they'll get together but when.

Tied up in all of that are a variety of themes, the most powerful of which revolve around the give-and-take of a relationship, pleasing others versus pleasing yourself, perceptions of ethical non-monogamy, and the interplay of caring for others and not wanting to be a burden. I mentioned subtle, and that's part of what Donna always does so well. The themes are there, inescapable by the end of the story, but you never feel like she's stretching to make a point.

There's also an element of storytelling and roleplaying to the story that I thought was lovely, giving it an air of romantic fantasy that plays very well against some of the more sorrowful dramas of real life. I wasn't quite sure where the story was going to end up, but I was entirely delighted with how it found its HEA.

This story was such a joy to read! Donna Jay added a tad of mystery to her newest story. She did an excellent job as she built up the suspense around the character of Haylee. No, I never give spoilers.
Jay did so well at drawing every emotion from me as I kept reading. I love that her story flows forward—no head-hopping around. The only hopping is that which her characters do together. The MCs have chemistry from their first meeting that Jay built stronger as the story progresses.
One of the things I love about reading her books is the travelling I can do through her words. If you don’t look up the areas where she takes her characters, you are missing out. Her descriptions make me want to visit every place she’s put in her stories. Just sayin’.
Wednesday Nights is filled with a lot of heart, emotion, romance, beautiful imagery, characters you’ll fall for, and never fear, there’s Donna Jay humour and some kinky scenes throughout. I love the characters Haylee and Angela and the trust they develop. This was such a wonderful story to read. Do yourself a favour and add it to your collection.

I've enjoyed DJ's stories over the years, and this one is slightly different. The characters are a little more confused, and there is a bit more angst than in the other stories. The relationship between the mains was definitely bumpy. The sex scenes were nicely spicy. The ending was a bit melancholy, but the best situation for all.

This book is so much more than the plot summary. Yes it is about two women meeting on Wednesday nights for fun and frolicking, but it is also about finding a emotional connection and friendship. Whilst Angela and Haylee’s reason for advertising for a partner are different, ultimately they find what they didn’t know they wanted. Really good main and supporting characters and a steamy, interesting plot to keep you engaged all the way through. Well worth the read.

Wednesday Nights by Donna Jay is a spicy romance, full of so many deep feelings that it wasn’t just the steamy scenes that stole my breath.

Every-time I pick up a book by this author I know for sure it’s going to be steamy and delicious. Yet what Jay also always manages to accomplish, is a beautiful storyline, that makes me think, question, and usually makes me re-evaluate my opinions. Wednesday Nights stopped me in my tracks and gave my thoughts and opinions a deep clean and a revamp.

I don’t want to spoil anything about this book, but I want to talk a little about the characters.

Haylee is one of those people who cares deeply, but also feels obligated to put others before herself. Sometimes that’s for selfish reasons, like we’ve all done, it’s easier to keep the peace than it is to stir the pot. But as the story progresses and the reader gets to know Haylee, you realise just how strong she is. Did I judge her, sure I did, but isn’t that human nature, we look, but don’t always see, it’s easy to judge when you haven’t experienced what a person is going through, when alls you are looking at is what’s on the surface and not seeing what lies beneath. But in true Donna Jay style, she made me see Haylee, like really see her, understand her and before long all I felt was empathy and awe.

Angela is a self confessed, no strings attached woman. She wants to play but doesn’t want the emotional ties that go with it, or so she thinks! She wasn’t banking on what Haylee would make her feel. Angela is confident, she knows what she wants and how to look after herself. Even when falling for Haylee, throws all she thought she knew about herself out the window, Angela manages to sort out her thoughts, compromise with herself and Haylee, and mostly take it all in her stride.

I loved both these characters, I love the light this author shines on judgement and choices. Donna Jay made me take a walk in someone else’s shoes, made me really see what was happening and now I feel enlightened and I will be less quick to judge before I know the full story. Not that I’m a judgemental person but I now feel more aware of myself.

As with all Jay’s books there is body positivity woven in the pages, slim, curvy, flat, round, firm or soft. This author celebrates women in all their beauty and as always I’m so very grateful.

So I know this isn’t like my usual reviews but it’s really hard to talk about Wednesday Nights without spoilers and I think readers need to experience this book to truly understand it.

Wednesday Nights is beautiful, steamy, deep, loving, erotic and thought provoking. And of cause it wouldn’t be a Jay book without elements of BDSM. Go give it a read.

5 stars from me

Everything people do and say in life has a reason.
The one we are told and the real reason.
Haylee and Angela both have valid reasons why they want to use an app to find a partner with whom they can spend relaxing, liberating nights.
Both are simply looking for fun and unbridled but tingling passion.
What they find is unexpected, hot and seemingly addictive! None of them expected that a timid beginning could ignite such a fire.
Haylee seems to have a lot of secrets, but Angela can't say no to the Wednesday nights together, which make her life exciting and worth living again after a long time.

It's hard to write anything without giving away the book's twists and surprises.
That would really be a shame. I don't want to spoil anything.
The book covers many heavy topics and also has a playful, extremely hot side.
Dominant by nature, Angela finds a willing but inexperienced submissive in Hayley.
Finally Haylee can experience her wishes and fantasies and not just dream about them.
After these Wednesday nights, her reality continues and you will understand why she just has to keep some things to herself.
It's full of touching themes that got me thinking and wondering what I would do in such a situation.
It will certainly challenge some readers.
Maybe reach certain limits of acceptance because people have their own basic moral values in their heads and very often project these onto others.
This is definitely the case in many situations throughout both MCs' history.
The book contains BDSM elements, which I personally found beautifully written and extremely hot! These two are a match made in heaven when it comes to chemistry and D/s play, and perhaps in other aspects of their lives too...

Once again, Donna Jay has written a slightly different but great love story that will captivate you from the start!
Thanks to Donna Jay for the ARC!

It’s complicated

That was my first take on the book. Reading on, I realized it was handling some very delicate and important issues.

It’s a beautiful love story, some of which hit close to home for me. And as always with Donna Jay books, it’s a lovely, humorous tour guide to the amazingness of New Zealand.

Such a deep, HOT book! When Haylee answers an ad on a dating app for uncomplicated sex she surprises herself. But then she sees a picture of Angela, she knows she made the right decision. Especially after they meet at a coffee shop.
This delves into a marriage on the rocks, was before an illness is diagnosed. And did I say HOT!! Definitely worth 5 stars!

A great story of two women who started out only wanting no strings attached and realizing that they might want something more. Definitely has some great spice that lets you live out your own fantasies. I really enjoyed the difference in the overall story, and the super supportive best friends.

This wonderful tale is the sapphic story of Haylee and Angela. It is very delightful and you will not be disappointed! However, I would have given it another star if there was more erotic BDSM. XOXOXOs to the author, Donna Jay, for creating this vicarious experience for us:)

interesting read

Now I’m sure some people will be judgey mc judge face about certain aspects of this book. If you actually read it before those things cloud your judgement then you’ll realise just how wrong you are.
If you listed everything that happens in this book and showed it to someone else they would be confused maybe, judgemental definitely but totally wrong.
The characters just click together, what started out as a no strings arrangement quickly changes into something more until, well, that would be telling.
The author has packed so much into this story and it just works. It definitely keeps you flipping those pages.
As a person with a gluten allergy I have to say it’s spot on. Personally I don’t get affected by onion etc but I know many coeliac’s do. And yep, it is painful while also being highly embarrassing at times. And truthfully, you very rarely trust others to cook for you. You learn that very early on! Thanks for highlighting this pain in the butt autoimmune nightmare.

A night out leads to love

This is a story that will surprise you. Haylee and Angela enter a no-strings, sex only relationship. Itis the one bright spot in Haylee's week. The book has a lot of heat between the 2 and you just know they will develop feelings for each other. This is a book you need to read for yourself without me giving to much away. I thoroughly enjoyed it even the angst part.

Angela opens her dating app and places an ad for “uncomplicated" fun. After all the unwanted emails she receives, she’s about to delete the app when another message comes through. She decides to read it and it’s from someone named “SweetLucy". "SweetLucy" says she’s looking for some “adult fun" and doesn’t want a relationship. The two make Wednesday’s their night and the attraction is immediate and electric. But “SweetLucy” is hiding something. What is her secret? Find out in this must read, sexy, erotic and emotional lesbian romance by Donna Jay, who once again takes us into the beautiful landscape of New Zealand. I highly recommend this book.

This was a great novel! For some reason I went into this without any expectations (and not knowing a thing about it, which is what I would recommend!!) and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found. This starts out as a very simple and straightforward spicy novel but as it progresses you find that there is a lot more to it than you were initially led to believe. This novel has a few layers to it, and excellently balances plot development with spicy content.

The highlight of this novel is the complex and well-developed characters. There are some messy situations and heavier content that the characters are dealing with throughout this novel, and the result is imperfect people trying their best. It was a lot more emotional than I expected it to be, in a very positive way. The novel tackles some delicate and divisive topics and I think that it did a good job of it.

Or the highlight was the spicy content, depending on who you ask. There was lots of spice, and it was done very well. Great job, no notes.

The writing was excellent. One fun thing, without giving spoilers; the author pulled a sneaky trick on me as the reader, twice, but I’m not bad about it because it was well done. This kind of trope could potentially be very annoying, but instead it was used very well!

Was it somewhat too instalovy? Yes probably, but it wasn’t bad enough to annoy me. Some parts of the story were underdeveloped, but only minor things that didn’t impact the story so that was also fine. This novel had a lot going on so I can see why some things might fall by the wayside. I never really got a solid read on or understood what was going on in their head, which I would have liked, but once again it wasn’t too big of a problem.

4.5 stars. I went in expecting just a hot no strings attached turned to love romance. I got that but so much more. This was absolutely fantastic and had some topics in it that I wasn’t expecting but Jay handled them so well. Great and engaging writing made this a quick read for me because once I started this I sat on my couch and did not put my kindle down until I was done. I was *that* hooked.

Haylee and Angela meet on an app and both women are looking for a no strings attached situation only. Angela is dominant, Haylee is submissive and they hit it off right away. I absolutely loved both characters. They have fantastic chemistry and both were so mature and I loved how they handled things. There is some third act drama but both women part with an understanding and feelings of love still between them instead of flinging angry words at each other. I appreciated that so much.

I honestly can’t say much about this book because spoilers. This was a big surprise to me and I think it’s best to go into this one knowing very little. It’s a lot more than what it seems trust me. I adored it. Wonderful main characters, sexy and swoon worthy romance, and a plot that kept me intrigued. Highly recommend it.

A Wednesday Night To Enjoy!

I am a fan of Donna Jay’s writing style. She loves where she lives and is always willing to share it. This story again has us in New Zealand where two women come together by an ad. Angela is a self professed single women, no commitment type who is tired of the dating scene and is looking for another to have “fun” with. Haylee answers, looking for the same even though she hasn’t really done this in over ten years. As these two come together, there is mild BDSM which as other readers have pointed out wasn’t mentioned in any blurb about the book. At first I was put off not because of BDSM but because I thought this was going in a completely different direction. However, with Donna Jay’s writing talent and her storytelling which gives us a twist that makes us stop and think 🤔. I have to say that I did enjoy and appreciated the nuances in this book that brought a unique perspective of a troubled relationship. Well Done!

NotAt all what I expected

Based on the blurb for this story, I was not expecting the BDSM plot line at all. A lot of times when an author throws in BDSM for a sub plot, they forget about the psychology of the whole thing and it ends up taking away from the story rather than I adding spice to it like they believe it will.

Having said all that, this is not one of those stories. It was very well executed and the BDSM was obvious from the beginning. It wasn't some little play in the background, it was the main setting of the story. I would've liked to have seen more from the Perspective of the Domina, but what we see through the submissive as well done. (Though may be a little simple.) I'm not going to assume the author is into the lifestyle or is a submissive, but based on the way the sex play is only written from the submissive point of view one has to wonder. Looking forward to reading something else by this author. Well done.

Complex

This was one of those reads that make you really think how comes at a cost. The Devon and Haylee in a marriage with fractures and it is strained even more when Devon is diagnosed with cancer. Haylee enters into a no strings attached relationship with Angela with Devon's consent. The author presents you with characters who face some tough questions. What are you willing to risk for happiness... for someone you love, for yourself? The answers are not always so black and white. If you enjoy romance with a side of morale dilemma, this is definitely a book that will make you think.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Overall I enjoyed this book! The characters were well written and the storyline flowed nicely. The transition between duel character perspectives was easy to follow. I enjoyed the tropes and the plot wasn’t something I had read before. The spice was decent but I didn’t feel like was the focus of the story. Lots of spice up front but more focused on the relationship and cute happy ending for probably the last third of the book.

I'm never disappointed with a Donna Jay book and this is no exception. This book is wonderfully written and handles a tough situation really well and in a considerate way. The characters were well done and believable. I also love how good they were at communicating and that there was not angst from miscommunication.
The setting also added extra to the book and helped it come alive :)
I'm looking forward to more books from this author
