"The Douchebag Bible" is a collection of TJ Kirk's previous three books, "SCUMBAG: musings of a subhuman," "In Defense of Evil: Why Good is Bad and Bad is Good" and "Neckbeard Uprising." Kirk is known on YouTube as TheAmazingAtheist.

What I found interesting about reading The Douchebag Bible is that there is a slight change in his tone and personality as the book unfolds. In SCUMBAG, he is a complete misanthrope that doesn't hide his contempt for his fans. ("You fucking people are mud--made of dirt and piss." page 48.) While he has not become warm and cuddly by the end of "Neckbeard Uprising," (on page 281 he says "Fuck humanity.") he does show a slight degree of sympathy for rape victims.

Secondly, he says that he was a conservative before the death of his father and had a sort of epiphany in the waiting room in the hospital. The people around him were his countrymen and they were all weak and fragile. While Kirk is probably not a member of the Democratic Party, his politics do line up with a liberal ideology. For example, on page 86 he says "Let me say here that I don't for a moment believe in the idea of CEO's and Politicians as arch-villains dividing and conquering the populace with ingenious deceptions and carefully crafted propaganda." Yet he has a YouTube video titled "HEY WALMART, PAY YOUR DAMN WORKERS!"

To be fair, he does say outright that he knows he will contradict himself and it is impossible to not do so. Still, the varying ideas that he presents does make for good reading. Think of it as showing two sides of an issue.

He goes on to admit that much of what he has to say is nothing new or groundbreaking. That is true. Everyone has noticed what idiotic commercials appear on the TV. We all know that Transformers 3 was a godawful fucking movie and that it would make a hell of a lot more money than a well done film version of Oliver Twist. He mentions these facts to point out the American culture's lack of interest in intellectualism. Perhaps a semi popular "celebrity" like TheAmazingAtheist could get people to think about the values and direction of our society and species, but judging by the lack of reviews or ratings on this site, it isn't likely.

TJ isn't a professional writer or philosopher and it shows. There are plenty of grammatical errors in the book and sometimes the ideas that he presents are not followed through. But that is a good thing, because no one would read an ultra detailed philosophy book anyway. There are plenty of those available to anyone that is interested. It is more interesting to see what the average person is thinking than what a long dead philosopher has to say.

This average person enjoyed Kirk's book and agrees that humanity is gonna get bitch slapped by its own stupidity.

Intentionally harsh. It has plenty of gems hidden in the muck. It also has plenty of takes that aged badly. It was written at an odd period of YouTube atheism and it shows. It was almost nostalgic if you were in that weird section of the internet. Overall, it is an odd inflammatory read. Take what you can and don't bother complaining to him about it. TJ doesn't care.

Let’s be honest, this isn’t aimed at me. I’m an Englishman in his sixties who thinks that being nice and quiet are the ideals that all humans should strive for. I saw the words Atheist and Bible and thought I’d be getting some insight into how the new generation of disbelievers were presenting their case. My bad. There is almost nothing here about the Bible but lots and lots of stuff about Mr Kirk’s penis and rape. You have to wonder if an endless diet of ultra-violent pornography hasn’t ruined these raging young Americans. Shoving things roughly up peoples bums makes up about a third of the book and is, apparently, endlessly amusing. It wasn’t amusing the first time. The parts where he talks about his beliefs is as interesting as hearing anyones who has actually spent some time thinking about it, but it’s not enough. Finally, why is this so badly produced? Surely a small child with a word processor could have made a more pleasing and less error strewn package than this? It isn’t aimed at me.

For better or worse, TJ Kirk has had an immeasurable influence on my worldview and the malleability of my critical thinking. A solid decade after the peak of his internet celebrity and influence, I still occasionally find myself working through societal or cultural issues through what I imagine to be TJ’s lens. His influence is unlikely to ever fade from my personality, and with that reality comes an idiosyncratic delight.

This was an interesting insight into the thoughts and ideas of T.J. Kirk. Having been a fan of his youtube channel (The Amazing Atheist) for over a decade now, I was intrigued to delve deeper and learn more about the person behind my computer monitor. While this isn’t by any means the most grammatically correct book in my repertoire, T.J. never claims it to be as such. For what it is, this book is rather enjoyable and gives off the same energy as his earlier youtube videos. There are times, however, where I feel he tries way too hard to be an edge-lord, which is pretty cringe. Aside from the forced edginess, this is a fairly good insight into the man behind The Amazing Atheist. 4/5
