This leader's guide is designed for people who are leading a group Bible study based on Nancy Guthrie's Saved book or video series, along with the companion Bible study workbook. The leader's guide includes introductory suggestions for managing the group, reproduces all of the questions from the Bible study workbook along with example answers, and includes group discussion questions with example answers.

At the beginning, Guthrie describes different ways to format the group study, and she offers ideas for how to gently handle different issues that might arise in the group, such as the group constantly getting off-topic, someone dominating the discussion, or people not completing their homework. The author suggests different possibilities for what the root issue might be, and provides insight into how leaders can address common problems while also being sensitive to all of the people involved.

The bulk of the book focuses on the seventeen lessons, giving the leader all of the Bible study questions and example answers, and all of the discussion questions and example answers. Guthrie emphasizes that the leader should do their own independent Bible study with the workbook first, and that study participants shouldn't use this book.

She instructs leaders to use the sample answers as a helpful resource when their group gets stuck, rather than regularly referencing this book and presenting its contents as the "right" answer. Guthrie says that many participants will come up with different ideas and angles that the sample answers don't include, and that people should feel free to share their thoughts and perspectives from their own study, without feeling constrained by a single "right" answer.

At the end of the book, there is a section that includes just the discussion questions. Leaders are allowed to copy these pages and distribute them to study participants, and this is also an easy way to reference them during the study.

Overall, this book can definitely be helpful, especially if someone is new to leading a Bible study. However, I think that this leader's guide is overpriced at the list price of $29.99, and that the start-up costs for this study are unnecessarily high. Someone doesn't have to buy the video series AND the original book unless they want to, because the teaching content in them is supposed to be interchangeable. However, to present this study the way it is designed, a study leader will need to buy one or the other, along with the Bible study workbook and the leader's guide.

I wish that the leader's guide also included the consumable pages from the Bible study workbook. As things stand, leaders are expected to spend money on both books, and they will having to shuffle back and forth between them during the group study, as they reference their own study answers and the content in the leader's guide. This adds potential stress and confusion, along with the unnecessary expense.

Ultimately, I think that this leader's guide is an optional purchase. If someone has enough experience studying the Bible that they feel confident to lead a study without sample answers, then they would probably only use this for the lists of discussion questions. They would be better off creating their own, instead of spending money on this book. I would only recommend this book to someone who feels uncertain and unprepared to lead a Bible study, and who wants the security of having sample answers to reference at any point.

I received a free copy from the publisher through Amazon Vine, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
