Galaxy Zack has some “sweet” competition in this Easter-themed chapter book adventure!
Zack and Drake venture to Gluco, the candy planet, for some Easter fun. Once there, the two friends decide to compete in activities, including an egg toss and a three-legged race. Zack remembers how he used to win all the Easter competitions on Earth, and he is determined to win them on Gluco, too. With the contest so close, Zack begins to wonder if he should cheat to ensure victory. Will Zack have to choose between playing fair or coming out on top?
With easy-to-read language and illustrations on almost every page, the Galaxy Zack chapter books are perfect for beginning readers.
I enjoyed this book because I like Galaxy Zack books. I also enjoyed this book because I like contests. I also enjoyed this book because I liked the part when Zack and Drake won the contest. The contest was a race course.
Zack, Cathy, Charlotte, and their parents are going to Planet Gluco (which I can only guess was inspired by the word 'glucose'), and Zack requests to have his Nebulon best friend Drake join them. Gluco is a planet that would make Willy Wonka jealous. Once there, they have several contests in which Zack and Drake partner up for almost all of them. In a coincidence, Seth, the alien boy who originally bullied Zack, is there with his friend Howie, and they partner up for the contests. Cathy and Charlotte find some colorful painting activities to do. Their parents, I can only assume, are there mostly as chaperones. There is a moral in this about cheating in a game, but... that's... about it. This one isn't boring, but rather bland. Honestly, this particular book would probably be more enjoyable to experience in real time. In story format, it comes across like someone's recollections of their vacation. Going on the vacation is always much more enjoyable than hearing about one. Not that I'm uninterested when someone tells me about their vacation. I don't know. The repetitiveness of the planet hop mixed with this basically being a one-day vacation kind of doesn't go very far. This isn't fire-starting material. It's okay. 2 stars.
Zack and his family are headed to the planet Gluco for Easter. Zack's best friend Drake gets to go with them. Zack is super excited. The entire planet is made of candy and they have fun contests for kids. But will the desire to win push Zack too far?
Move over Willy Wonka's Factory, Zack's got a whole planet of candy! This is the kind of book that sparks kids' wildest imaginations. Everyone will be jealous of Zack. Zack learns a good lesson about playing fairly in the midst of his sugar-filled trip, and I like what a good influence Drake is on him. Recommended to candy lovers and lower grade scifi fans.
