What's blue and grey and probably breaking some rule or three? Detectives Aiden Moss and Torloch Doyle.
The boys are used to dealing with weirdness, but this takes the cake. So does Torloch, but that's another story. Christmas in June, spiders congregating in Phoenix Park and rainy day professors become the least of the boys' problems when they find out their mystery culprit may not even know they're creating havoc and mayhem across Dublin.
When things go arseways right quick, Aiden and Loch have to solve the puzzle before the madness spreads any further. Of course, it would help if they knew what they were looking for, but with a little help from several lovely witches, and maybe some good old-fashioned Irish luck, they'll have it wrapped up in time for dinner.
Nicole DragonBeck was born in California one snowy summer long ago, the illegitimate offspring of an elf and a troll. At a young age her powers exploded and she was banished to the wilderness of South Africa because her spells kept going inexplicably awry. There she was raised by a tribe of pygmy Dragons and had tremendous adventures, including defeating a terrible Fire-Demon that had been tormenting a sect of Dwarf priests. In gratitude they taught her the arcane magic of writing and the rest is horribly misinterpreted history. She reads as much as she writes, is obsessed with dragons and Italians, enjoys cooking, listening to music and can often be heard fiddling on a keyboard or guitar.
Just like the first book in this series: an entertaining and light-hearted urban fantasy mystery with an interesting story that needs a better editor or proofreader.
For example: 190cm are not equivalent to 6'6", and someone really need to tell the authors to make up their mind if it's 'grey' or 'gray', if it's 'chips' or 'crisps' (for the dry, bagged, potato snacks that are definitely not fries), and that fish and chips doesn't have anything to do with a sandwich, etc. The list goes on and is long, very long, unfortunately.
Enjoyable, if you can look past the considerable amount of errors and mistakes, both in grammar and facts. Otherwise, probably not so much.
I was grinding my teeth a considerable amount of time whilst reading this volume. Will likely read the next one regardless, the story is good and I can look past botched editor jobs (although I really, really despise them), but maybe I'll be taking a bit of a break before I do.
Boy am I ever glad I was introduced to this gem of a series as I have found it utterly delightful, with the two leads feeling like old friends. Once again I was drawn into their shenanigans literally laughing at the humor and banter between them, while trying (and failing) to work out the clues in their case. Nope I'd definitely not make a good detective. One of the things I absolutely adored (and forgot to mention before) is how the titles of each chapter is mentioned in some way, either in a sentence or stated by a character, it's a little quirk that I found very charming and found myself eagerly looking for it in each new chapter I read. Again I loved everything about this book and I can't wait to see what's in store for the guys next.
The boys are back and are getting into more trouble than ever, but their newest case is weird even for them. Starting with a phone call from a kleptomaniac who is stealing scissors, things descend into madness pretty quickly. With Christmas coming in June and a professor with a weather problem, Aiden and Loch discover that their suspect might not have a clue about the mayhem they are causing. Not knowing what they are looking for, can the dragon and the gargoyle wrap up the case before things really get out of hand?
Loch has definitely stolen my heart with his easy charm, way of getting into trouble and the fact he can eat his entire body weight in snacks and still be hungry. I mean who else can be eating a meal and start discussing what's for dinner 🤣 But as charming as he is with the ladies, there is one that is immune as they have a past (which I'm dying to know exactly what happened between them). Selena is a vampire, who makes this gargoyle go gaga whenever they see each other and the normally brash detective is rendered mute. Hells yes, I'm rooting for these two all the way I just hope it doesn't take another century for them to work things out.
Ahh my book dragon nerd extraordinaire Aiden, who is a walking encyclopedia of facts, rules and other useful information (Loch doesn't agree) is adorable. He also so awkwardly cute when in situations he doesn't know how to handle, and like Loch, his vocabulary seems to fly out the window when around a certain green haired witch Claudine. Maybe these guys need to be wingmen for each other, because nothing short of that is going to get him to ask her out on a date I think. Yeah I've fallen for him too..
It was great to see Rudy again, the cheeky unseelie fae prince who lives to stalk the guys. He's funny, snarky and a total pain in their butts and I adore him. I look forward to seeing what happens with him in the next book.
So it's onto book 3 for me to see what strange case these boys find next. So if you like dragons who live for paperwork, gargoyles who always think of their stomachs, good friendships and a little mystery this is the book for you. Highly recommend 😁
While Loch and Aiden are doing paperwork from previous cases (or at least Aiden is, while Loch eats), some strange things start happening. First scissors are missing and the culprit contacts Aiden to meet up about it. While waiting for this meeting which doesn’t happen, there is another strange incident, someone is decorating bridges for Christmas even though it is June, and another man calls all the spiders in the part to him. There is definitely something strange going on and the pair of detectives don’t really have any ideas to begin with. There is some help from witches and brownies but they have to do a lot of investigating into something they are not knowledgeable about. This book is full of humour, the main pair have a great relationship and their talking/banter is one of the highlights of the book. There is also the dinner with Loch’s family which is another eye opener. The best part of this was his Mom calling him at work to say it’s an emergency. I’m loving these books, they have an unusual mystery that I have no idea of the cause, there is such great Interactions between all of the characters and there are leads to more intrigue in the future. These are quick, easy, enjoyable reads that are highly recommended.
OMG Aiden and Loch had me laughing so hard I could cry. It was a page turner and the suspense was wild and fun. I really enjoyed this story and I was on the edge of my seat as I couldn't put it down. These two got into a lot of trouble as it was action packed of mysterious of totally weirdness of madness. I enjoyed it so much and I can't wait until the next book to come out from this author. I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones
Another great story of the Dragon and Gargoyle detective team
A Dragon and a Gargoyle are detectives in the KPOC. They are tasked with solving supernatural cases before the human s in their Irish town find out about the hidden world of magical creatures, witches and more who live side by side with mortals. You can count on a fun chase, danger and the detectives getting in hot water with their Leprechaun supervisor since they have a unique way of solving crimes. The Dragon and Gargoyle Series is addictive fun.
Loch and Aiden are great. They are more than willing to put themselves on the line for what they believe is right. I want to know what happened between Loch and Selena. And Aiden needs to ask his witch out. I am definitely looking forward to the next book and finding out what is happening with Rudy!
Aiden and Loch are back and so is the trouble and weirdness they always seem to find and get caught up in. In this one I laughed through most of it while trying to guess what is going on. Just a blast to read and enjoyed the characters as always. Oh the trouble...
