Following Diana’s thwarted assassination attempt on Estelle, relative peace returns to Arcaryne’s palace—but not for long. Trickster, the man who had underhandedly instigated Diana, soon reappears, having found another easy high-profile House Rainsworth, whose daughter Olivia had once been rumored to be all but engaged with Arcrayne. As Trickster worms his way into the family’s mansion and gains nearly everyone’s unsuspecting trust, the household quickly dissolves into chaos. It is now up to the prince to stop the interloper before he does too much damage.
As for Estelle, she will soon come face-to-face with an old enemy...

If i had known that this series are still incomplete, i may not have started reading it initially. The fact that it only has 2 volumes so far and is still ongoing can be frustrating for readers like me who prefer complete, self-contained stories.

the one aspect i did enjoy was the little element of suspense that the writer added with the character of the Trickster. even though the overall series is incomplete, the author has managed to incorporate intriguing plot points and build anticipation for future developments.

Better and worse that the first volume

The long wait between volumes for no favors for me. I ended up having to speed re-read the previous book just to remember the story. This volume starts with the POV of side characters which just confused me.

The first volume has some creepy vibes that retracted from the solid story but this volume doesn't do that. This round though was a little less interesting and more predictable though.

I'll read the next one for sure but I will need notes to not have to reread 1&2 later. Below are my super limited recaps, mostly for my own reference but hopefully helpful to others as well.

Vol 1 recap: MC Estelle loses her fiance to a rich girl who financially blackmailed his family into switching for her. Estelle them goes to a party to hunt for a new husband. Takes a bullet for the crown prince and accidentally reveals her secret powers to the prince as a result. He decides her power is perfect for protecting him and declared she will be his bride. Insert shinanigans and questionable consent. Rich girl is all jealous and attempts and fails to assassinate MC. Prince and MC start falling in like. TBC-

Vol 2 SPOILER recap: former fiance candidate family is thrown into chaos as they deal with the sudden changes. While prince and MC are getting closer and dealing with plot politics ect FFC's family is falling apart and being manipulated by the evil Trickster, the gypsy shape changer guy from volume 1. Stuff happens and prince goes to investigate FFC's situation. Gypsy is like "oh no, you'll never catch me alive" and tries to turn into a dragon. The shape changing artifact fails and gypsy dragon man explodes causing prince to almost die. Insert drama and healing time. Couple gets closer and like becomes love for sure. Naturally they don't tell each other their feeling so they can have more unnecessary drama tension. Next comes the royal hunt and while prince is out hunting the camp gets attacked by a real dragon and stuff goes nuts. Estelle always the dragon but gets hurt. Prince is devastated for failing to protect her and nurses her back to health through physical therapy. Meanwhile his not so evil brother has started crushing on Estelle.

Tons left out of recaps, very light mostly for myself to remember when volume 3 cubes it lol.
