John takes a house from a woman called Carol, where in the basement he keeps his women … Christine is out late at night when a man she doesn’t see hits her with his van … Riley’s sister has been missing for months and she’s starting to give up all hope … Ben is four, and he’s hungry and tired.
John, our lead, was really someone that you could dig…a grave for. We were treated to a firsthand experience of his journey scouting, torturing, and killing victims. And Ash Ericmore really did a solid job of writing just enough backstory for each individual, giving them purpose and eventually being fed to this aggressive predator. John was just so calculated and complex with his process, demonstrating his full mental anguish and ambitions to inflict tremendous pain on those that were lucky enough to be chosen. I had good laugh when chapter 22 started, as we found John was a…well John, in the red light district. He then developed a strange dynamic with one of his victim’s children and things further, somehow, spiraled out of control. No good can come from the situation and sure enough, nothing did. There was a tremendous amount of violence and sexual content, but the author found a really good flow and pace to everything. Definitely one of Ash Ericmore’s stronger works.
