Caleb, a wealthy businessman, accompanied his beloved grandfather Gene from Chicago to Rustic Ridge, a small town miles away, to check on Gene's many investment properties.
Meanwhile, Piper, the owner of a bakery in the small town, is struggling to keep her mother and sisters from forcing her into a relationship with a man of their choice, so Piper would have a date to her sister Missy's wedding. As they are pressuring her, Caleb came into the bakery, and Piper impulsively tells her family that he is her boyfriend. Fortunately, Caleb goes along with the ruse and agrees to be her fake boyfriend.
I really enjoyed the story, the characters, even Piper's feisty dog Gizmo who made a deep connection to Gene. Missy was something of a bridezilla... she wanted Piper to make three wedding cakes, a task that would take countless hours, and even wear a mustard yellow bridesmaid gown.
Caleb and Piper developed real feelings for each other as one would predict, and after many twist and turns we got the anticipated (required?) happy ending. A very sweet romance.
I received an early copy of this book and am leaving my voluntary honest review.
