Heather Sunseri was raised on a tiny farm in the smallest of towns in thoroughbred horse country near Lexington, Kentucky. After high school, she attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and later graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in accounting. Always torn between a passion for fantasy and a mind for the rational, it only made sense to combine her career in accounting with a novel-writing dream.
Heather now lives in a different small town on the other side of Lexington with her two children, and her husband, Mike, the biggest Oregon Duck fan in the universe. When she’s not writing or working as a CPA, she spends her time tormenting her daughter’s cat, Olivia, and loving on her son’s Golden Retriever, Jenny. MINDSPEAK is her first published novel.
Wow. What a great series. I enjoyed these books tremendously. From start to finish, they had my attention. Such a gripping rollercoaster ride of a story!! I literally found myself biting my nails anxiously awaiting to find out what would happen. I also had to force myself to read slower because I was skipping words to hurry up the process. I absolutely love books that do that to you. Also, with the first book, Mindspeak, being free, I did not have high expectations...but once again I was proven wrong!!!! I cannot stress enough how fantastic this YA series is. This series is definitely going on my favorites shelf.
I really enjoyed this series. I really loved the romance between Lexi and Jack. It's sweet with a little bit of sexy, but not too much. The premise is really fun, with their healing and mind speaking abilities. I think the mindspeak really adds to the fun of the read, bc it's written in italics, so you know the difference between when the characters are speaking out loud or in their minds. The evil villain gets old after a while, but what dystopian evil villain doesn't!? I'd definitely recommend this series to fans of YA dystopia who are looking for a good fun read.
These books just get better and keep you so enthralled. But I was so sad to see the end of following these characters. But excited to see what’s next to come!
(This is the third book in the series, so there are bound to be spoilers from the first two books. Read at your own risk.)
Lexi can’t get free from the evil trying to control her. Evil has a name: Sandra, Lexi’s DNA donor. On Lexi’s eighteenth birthday, Sandra starts sending ‘gifts’ that continue to escalate in severity. With all those that Lexi loves threatened, she wants to take revenge on the one who gave her life but also who is the driving force of destroying her life.
I really loved this book, but since I became a huge fan of Jonas’s, it was also a bit of torture. From the very beginning, I’ve said that there is something about Jake that just makes me not be able to absolutely love as a character. I really enjoyed Lexi and Jake’s relationship and growth in the first two books, but all throughout this book, I screamed for Lexi to want Jonas. That was never going to be a remote possibility because Lexi and Jake are so in love, but I couldn’t help but torture myself with that wish.
Getting past that, everything else about the book was amazing. The ending was very satisfying for the conclusion of the series (even though there is another book after this one). One thing in the end left me with some questions, but I’m sure (well, hoping really) that Heather Sunseri with give us an explanation for it later. I’ll be disappointed if there never is one, but it’s really not a huge thing to get caught up about.
I did actually find a typo in this book. At one point (I should have kept track), the name should have been ‘Alyson,’ but it was written ‘Sandra,’ and knowing the characters, that is a huge difference.
I really liked the introduction of new characters in this book, especially Lexi’s mom. The growth of the other relationships were wonderful as well. I liked seeing more of Coach and Seth. They were great people for Lexi to turn to.
I’m so impressed by how Heather Sunseri dealt with Lexi’s trust issues and grieving in this book. I really identified with her and her pain really came through in this book. When Lexi started pushing everyone away, Heather Sunseri made it so real. Other books so often struggle and fail at conveying these feelings, or they don’t let them last long enough to explore them fully. This book did an excellent job with them and helping Lexi move past them.
I’m so impressed with Heather Sunseri’s work and I really can’t wait to read more of it. She has an amazing imagination to have put this book together and she did a wonderful job in writing it. I’m also excited for the next book, even though it will be a bit of a change because it is focused on Kyle, but I have always wanted to get to know him more.
I'm writing one review for all three books as I think the author should have found a way to stop Lexi's story after the first book (cause she was completely annoying) and let the series continue with other characters being the main subject, either that or finding a way to conclude the story in 2 books. I tried my best to like Lexi but she was awful throughout each book, I don't know what Jack thought was so great about her. If Lexi spent less time storming off in a strop then the books would be a good 50 pages lighter. She was so childish it made me want to hurl my iPad. I know that these books are for young adults and I'm not, but I've read other authors in this genre who do it better. I do think the premise of the story was good, who isn't fascinated with stories of pre-cognitive, telekinesis and other abilities. Which leads me to the main villain Sandra who was completely OTT, if she was a man we would've seen her twirling her mustache while giving an evil look. In fact there were hardly any redeeming adults in the whole 3 books.
I did like Jack even when he put up with Lexi, Jonas was bearable too. I would say that Briana was a character that I would've like to see more of did I miss the part that told us in book 1 why she was so awful. I think I would like to read the book that has Briana as the main character but then it might like this review go on a tad too long.
What I loved about this series was the characters. Heather Sunseri definitely knows how to get a reader invested in a character. And not just the main characters, but ALL of the characters. They were relatable, multi-faceted, three dimensional - and they were the type you LOVE - or love to hate! I love Lexi & Jack - especially Jack!! What a great guy...he knew from the first page what he wanted, and he never flip-flopped, never gave up - even after he achieved it. Sunseri knows how to write a couple that is strong both individually, and as a couple. And they were ever-changing, growing, building on those characteristics and skills that are so cool by the end of the book. I just wish our heroine had figured out what she was capable of a bit sooner, so that she could've used these things earlier - and perfected them as the story went on. There is so much more potential here - and I hope she continues this series further - maybe as adults?? There's more here, and I hope that "Tracked", Sunseri's offshoot of this series, goes further with the powers of the clones' minds!!
GREAT SERIES!!! Loved the characters! Really loved the main character and the way she interacts with the side characters throughout the story. This is a series I would reread over again. The plot was obviously not realistic in content but the characters' personalities, actions and responses and where they took the story was consistent throughout and I thought they were very believable. I think Sunseri did a great job at unfolding a unique story and keeping it moving and fun and entertaining from start to finish. It was a page turner and I would only put it down when I realized it was 2:00 in the morning and I was only hours away from my kids waking up. :) I like that it kept my imagination running wild with excitement while at the same time bringing in good explanations and clear directions for everything....(trying not to give away any spoilers with this vague review but just trust me! You'll love this series!)
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I liked this installment. The storyline moved around the original characters but kept looping them back in. The main characters appeared more in depth to me - but maybe it had just been too long since I'd read the previous books. I'm glad Ms. Sunseri didn't just clone her other characters because they are all "young people". It's nice to see characters with issues they have to overcome, besides the villains in a story.
I thought this book read really quickly, but it's about the same size as the others, so the action just moves quickly and you just don't notice how long you've been reading.
I am looking forward to the next book. Can't wait to see how it all ends up!
This is book 3 of 3 and you must read books 1 and 2 first.
Wow, wow, wow, these are my favourite books by far !
Lexi now finds herself in control of Wellington Boarding School – the safe(ish) home for the human clones, her father has also left her a great deal of money. She needs to put a stop to Sandra’s cloning and after the loss of her father and her best friend Lexi seriously wants revenge.
Lexi has to find Sandra’s lab and put a stop to it once and for all without being captured and tested on for her unique DNA.
Totally gripping and amazing trilogy, had me hooked right from the start. I will be looking out for more books by Heather Sunseri.
I highly recommend this trilogy. I'd give this more than 5 stars if I could !!
I literally could not put this book down. I kept saying to myself, “One more chapter,” and before I knew it, it was almost midnight, I had read a quarter of the book, and had to force myself to put the book down and go to sleep. I woke up early the next morning and went back to reading, and before I knew it, I had read the whole thing. It completely drew me in with non-stop action. I was thoroughly surprised by who was betraying them. I wasn’t totally surprised by who else wanted Lexi dead since it really had to be one of three people. I very highly recommend Mindsurge to young adults and adults alike. Fact is, if you’ve read Mindspeak and Mindsiege, you won’t be able to skip this book!
Stuck at home sick, I just read this book for the second time. What I loved the most about this book was the character development. Everyone reveals their true nature, and you find out who you can trust. You see Lexi really grow into such a strong woman that you forget she is really just a high school student. Plus, there is lots of suspense and science like you have come to expect from Heather Sunseri. I enjoyed the book so much that I can forgive her for calling this an end to this series.
This series has been captivating. I have stayed up very late while reading these books and found myself reading so fast that I was skipping words trying to find out what was to happen next. I forced myself to slow down. Grammatically, I didn't notice any errors and that is a huge compliment. Many series that I have started with a free or reduced rate on a Kindle are riddled with errors! Not the case with these books. Great job and I can't wait for the next Mindspeak book!
Still had some fun reading this one but probably not enough to pick up any subsequent books in this series.
I'm left feeling that characters with superpowers are just going to pop up arbitrarily and turn out to be (at least for the moment) on the side of good or evil, just to keep things difficult enough for the main character but not too difficult. Lots of the characters aren't really believable and lots of their motivation comes from backstory that we aren't told until after the fact. That was annoying.
Disappointing ending to a series with a strong start. Seems the author had a great idea for a story then didn't know where to go after the first volume. The second book was still decent, although I found the stubborn behaviors of some characters exhausting. But this one felt rushed with a completely disorganized and unbelievable plot. I guess you have to read it if you want to finish this series (next 2 books are about supporting characters), but I would wait for a sale or something. This one is not worth the five bucks I paid by any stretch of the imagination!
In a thrilling conclusion to Heather Sunseri's Mindspeak trilogy, she took me on a wild ride! Fascinating locations, breath-taking suspense, tender-hearted moments as well as some sizzling scenes with Jack and Lexi, and mind-blowing twists, Sunseri provided me with a satisfied sigh as I turned the last page. And for Jonas fans, you won't be disappointed either.
I truly loved each book in this series and am looking forward to more of Sunseri's novels.
I enjoyed this book immensely. I gave it 4 stars because of the ending. I was totally confused on the wishy washy relationship between Alyson and Sandra. that was never explained and could have used more details.
The relationship between the H/H were very believable and kept me reading to find out what would happen to them next. I would recommend this series. it was a very good read.
I was really disappointed with the ending. It seemed rushed and anticlimactic. Her relationship with her mom seemed like a lost plot point, and I have no idea what was up with Addison. She switched sides for no known reason, it didn't seem to mesh with her character as established in books one and two, and there was no explanation why she sided with Sandra in the end. Plus, she disappeared at the end with absolutely no resolution. Good series, terrible finale.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Or just arrogant to STILL think she can take on Sandra & Co. by herself? I was hoping she'd wise up a little but no. And she's suddenly so much more advanced at using her mind powers in the last few pages than she has been the whole book? I just would have liked to have seen a little more growth and maturation in her character. And what's the deal with Addison? Worth reading but I won't be revisiting this series.
This book was amazing. I loved the ending. The book moved along very well. Heather Sunseri has written a masterpiece!! If you like Sci-Fi, you HAVE to read this! I also read the entire trilogy in 10 days, but I also read 4 books in the ten days not counting this trilogy. I couldnt put it down. I got the first one free and I immediately npbought the next one after finishing the first. So gripping!!!
great series! compeling story of clones and supernateral healing ability mixed with intigue, murder, government conspiracy, a little romance, a seriously insane villan and a great group of characters that add too the storys complexity without overshadowing it. I will spread the word on this series!
Nice conclusion to the trilogy. I was hoping for a bit more action and more of a struggle to win so I was a bit disappointed with the lack of real struggle. Still, this was an enjoyable YA trilogy. The idea of human cloning in order to cure illness and disease is an interesting idea. I wonder if perhaps it is happening and we just don't know about it.
It is my hope that cloning humans is still science fiction rather than fact. I'm wondering about the back and forth of loyalty in the youngest supporting character of the book. Stories like this make one want to be sure of the people they surround themselves with and even double check one's own valies.
liked the trilogy, liked the resolution. sometimes i had trouble understanding some of the characters' motivations and whose side they were on. friends turned out to be enemies and enemies turned out to be friends, which i sometimes found confusing, but i just read through it and tried not to worry about it too much.
This is such a wonderfully complex series. It kept !me wondering about all of the possible scenarios and different outcomes. While some of the major plot twists and turns were resolved, quite a few were not resolved. I am getting ready to read the next book in the series. I can't wait for the adventure!
Mindsurge was a great ending to Lexi and Jack's story. I loved everything about this book. I do have more questions which probably won't be answered until Kyle's story in 2015. Looking forward to that as well!! A great series you don't want to pass up!!
I really enjoyed this series and would recommend it to anyone that likes YA dystopia novels. I felt the ending was a bit rushed, and I would have liked more answers to a few things. Overall these were very enjoyable quick reads.
I love how this book wraps up Jack and Lexi's story. Many parts of this book had my emotions all over the place. It kept me interested, and looking forward to the end. Now that it's over, I want more. I can't wait to read Kyle's story in 2015.
