Years ago, Abi left Vancouver heartbroken. Now she’s back — older, wiser, and sexier. Tess won’t know what hit her.

Abi Young is well acquainted with unrequited love and the void it leaves behind. While she had hoped moving to a different city would extinguish any residual feelings for her best friend’s older sister, it turns out absence really does make the heart grow fonder.

As the maid of honor, all Tess Moore wants is to give her sister the wedding of her dreams. Even if it means stepping out of her comfort zone and organizing a pre-wedding bridal party adventure. To make matters worse, the woman whose heart she shattered years ago will be participating. A woman she’s never been able to forget.

After what happened between them, two weeks in proximity to Tess should be hell for Abi. Instead, she deems it one last chance to show Tess the woman she’s become.

Will Tess be able to relax her role as the responsible sister long enough to notice? Or will Abi forever be seen as the kid with a silly crush?

Tess and Abi’s story is the first in the contemporary, sizzling sapphic Love In Vancouver series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

**'Writers need to be tolerant but also receptive at the same time --- even while you're often asking readers to just accept whatever story that you publish..'

Average read!
A somewhat mixed storyline -- conflicting and out of sync at times in this book #1 of Ms. Mercy's 'Love In Vancouver' ongoing series. Do the protagonists (Abi & Tess) have chemistry? Maybe a teeny-tiny bit but at least the supporting characters did balance out this second chance at love storyline.

---: the story is unnecessary way too long....

I enjoyed reading For the 1,000 time. It’s your average contemporary romance with enough angst, to-ing and fro-ing that it was entertaining.

For The 1000th Time is a second chance contemporary romance.

I really enjoyed Abi and Tess’ story after a kind of one night stand four years ago they reunite for Tess’s sister’s wedding celebrations.
Taunya, Tess’s sister is Abi’s best friend, they grew up together. Up until Abi moved away they were inseparable. Abi has always had a huge crush on Tess which turned into love as she got older, but as far as she knew, Tess never saw her as anything but her kid sister’s bestie. Plus there was the fact that when Tauni caught them together on that one night, she wasn’t happy with the idea of her sister and best friend being involved. Now four years later everyone is all grown up and opinions change.

Tess lives with anxiety. She is plagued with self doubt. The fact that the two relationships she’s had have been with toxic women who used her doesn’t help. The author did a fantastic job of showing the reader what it’s like to be in Tess’s shoes. I wanted to hug her, sooth her and give her exes a piece of my mind. She is a beautiful character, with a kind gentle heart. She has so much to be proud of, but constantly sees herself as unworthy. She can’t fathom what someone like Abi sees in her and struggles to believe what is right in front of her.

Abi can’t remember a time when she hasn’t wanted Tess. In Abi’s eyes Tess is perfect. All the qualities Tess loathes about herself, Abi loves. Abi is confident, but where Tess is concerned she struggles to know where she stands. She adores her shy qualities, the way she’s always putting others first, and the fact that she is quick to blush. Abi just wishes Tess could see how wonderful she is and would believe that Abi wants her just the way she is.

In spite of the anguish and longing going on in this book, the story is fun, sweet, and thoroughly enjoyable. It follows Tauni’s week long bachelorette extravaganza. There is a great bunch of friends who partake in some awesome activities. I loved getting to know them all, especially Coy, that woman is a conundrum.
The story develops well as does Tess and Abi’s relationship. The only thing is, I would have liked more of a conclusion for them. The author did such a fantastic job at showing the reader the how’s and why of the struggles this pair went through. But then I feel like the end was a bit rushed. It didn’t stop my enjoyment of story, and maybe I’m greedy 😂, I’m definitely greedy! However I did want to know more about how they overcome those obstacles. Having said that the epilogue, while short, left me with a huge smile on my face.

This is a beautiful story and definitely worth a read.

Arc received from the author.

I found the book delightful; I especially appreciated the palpable chemistry and attraction between Abi and Tess. From the start, Abi's love for Tess was evident. The storyline was wonderfully written, and I enjoyed the steamy elements, too.

I truly enjoyed the character development, not only for the main characters but for the supporting characters as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the various events that unfolded within the book; if anyone had a sister who could arrange a bridal party week like Tess did for her sister Taunya, any bride-to-be would be over

I also have a crush on McCoy, the supporting character and member of the bridal party. I can't wait to read the next book that centres around her.

I found the book to be a fabulous read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

A love destined to be and an in depth look into how severe mental health issues can sabotage your happiness.

I received an advance copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Abi is going home to Vancouver for her best friend Taunya’s weddings. It’s four years after she left her hometown heartbroken after she did the stupidest thing. She subsequently ruined her chances with the woman she has loved for years and years, Taunya’s older sister Tess. Abi only has to endure two weeks of pre-wedding activities. An itinerary organized by none other than Tess. Abi has done everything to heal from her heartbreak, but she’s not fooling herself. Tess is still the woman of her dreams. Maybe, just maybe, Tess can see now the grown up, sexy woman Abi has become and realize what Abi has known all along: they belong together.

Tess is not looking forward to the next two weeks. She would do anything for her sister Taunya, including giving her the best wedding celebrations possible. Where Taunya is exuberant and outgoing, Tess would rather be swallowed up by a wall instead of flinging herself into a group of her sister’s friends. Tess’s anxiety is almost at an all time high. And then, there is Abi. The girl who Tess treated very poorly when she was heartbroken over her cheating ex fiancée. She should never have let Abi be a rebound hookup. Even though Tess knows she never felt as good as in Abi’s arms, she never even apologized for her behavior. But chances are slim that Abi even wants to talk to her after all these years.

This story is told from both Abi’s and Tess’s POV and that gives an intriguing perspective on the events. Abi’s unshakable feelings for Tess are so pure. It’s not that she idolizes the woman, she just feels a powerful connection to her and accepts Tess exactly like she is. Abi simply just wants all of her. I love that Abi doesn’t give up on Tess but doesn’t forget herself in the process. She knows what she’s worth and even though she offers herself up on a silver platter, she does so with all the dignity imaginable.

Anxiety can be crippling and Jen-Lea Mercy does an excellent job in taking you far into the mind of Tess when her anxiety takes over all reasonable thoughts. It is overwhelming and heartbreaking to read how she self destructs and talks herself down to a tiny, unlovable version of herself. Tess can’t believe Abi still wants to be with her. How can someone as pure and beautiful as Abi, take Tess for all that she is. The negative spiral is very real and almost painful to witness.

The side characters are all well developed and three dimensional. From Tess’s sister Taunya to their friend and illustrious lesbian heartthrob McCoy, they each bring something unique to the story. Their individual relationships with the main characters are essential to understanding who Abi and Tess are.

For The 1000th Time is a very sensitive and loving story of an all consuming love and mental health issues that can potentially screw up the best things. It’s not a run of the mill sapphic romance, but for me, that makes it all the more worthwhile. I only wish we got to see more of Abi and Tess together.

For the 1000th Time by Jen-Lea Mercy is a best friend's sister, second chance romance. When a teenage Abi falls for her best friend's older sister, she falls hard, and it is all-consuming. On the night of her going away party, she finds the heartbroken Tess in her room, vulnerable after a bad breakup with her fiancé. An ensuing passionate evening is interrupted by Tess's little sister, Abi's best friend, Taunya. She does not take it well.
Time has given them all new perspectives, and the group of friends comes back together in their hometown to celebrate Taunya's wedding. After four years away, Abi is determined to ignore what happened between her and Tess and get through the pre-wedding festivities with her heart intact. I like that it was a four-year time span. That feels like a believable amount of time to have some personal experiences, and grow a bit, but also not necessarily be over the love of her life.
Tess has anxiety, debilitating at times, and is insecure due to the manipulation she has suffered in her past relationships. Abi still loves Tess with a wholesome, albeit intense love, but has grown to value herself and holds onto her dignity when things get tough while respecting Tess's challenging mental condition. Tess's introversion, anxiety, and subsequent anxiety attacks were realistically portrayed. Unhealthy and healthy coping mechanisms were presented.
I highly enjoyed the character voices and dialogue, as well as the friend group's interactions.
The story moved along at a good pace, and I never lost interest.
Despite the challenges, this was a beautiful love story that played out with a HEA.

I could not get my head straight with who everyone was, including the two mains and one sister. This meant it took a bit of time to settle in to the book. I am not sure if my lack of clarity was helped or hindered by alternate point of view…… I would expect that would make the mains voices clearer but it didn’t. The sister has an unusual name, the mains don’t, yet I couldn’t keep clear in my head whose sister she was, I think that is where the alternate P.O.V. didn’t help because the sister had a pretty close personal relationship with both mains, and one main was staying in the other mains parents house…..
As I got more in to the book, the mains at least became clear voices. The sister may have had good intentions but her interactions with the sister’s girlfriend just caused problems.
I didn’t quite gel with the mains, possibly my issue, possibly my age. There were aspects and phrases I liked, but found the baddies a bit cartoonishly bad, but the lack of self confidence of one main, quite well portrayed.

really enjoyed this! Jen-Lea is a new to me author and I’m looking forward to reading more, especially the next in this series!
I tandem read with the audiobook and the narrator did a great job. This book has an FMC who has an anxiety disorder and I thought this was portrayed well.

Written in third person with 2x POV’s. Narrated by Laura Horowitz. Best Friends Sister, Second Chance, Anxiety Rep/Mental Health Rep, Return to Hometown, Opposites Attract. 3x Spicy Scenes.

For the 1000th Time is a slow-burning, emotionally layered romance that explores the ache of first love, the weight of mental illness, and the tentative hope of healing—wrapped in the rugged beauty of British Columbia. Jen-Lea Mercy delivers a heartfelt debut that takes its time, not just with its pacing, but with its characters’ emotional growth.

Abi and Tess’s dynamic is quietly magnetic. Told in dual POV, the audiobook gives us intimate access to both their inner worlds—Abi’s quiet resolve and enduring love, and Tess’s fractured, anxiety-laden self-doubt. Abi is a standout: confident, steady, and full of heart. Her love for Tess isn’t idolization; it’s clear-eyed, unwavering devotion. And the way she manages to both fight for Tess and still honor her own worth is one of the most powerful elements of the story.

Laura Horowitz is an incredible narrator, bringing so much emotion, humor, and complexity to the characters. She captures Abi’s warmth and sincerity beautifully, while also navigating Tess’s intense internal monologues with care and depth. She’s quickly becoming one of my favored narrators—there’s a gentle authenticity to her voice work that elevates every scene.

One of the novel’s strongest assets is its supporting cast. From Tess’s sister Taunya to their friend and illustrious lesbian heartthrob McCoy, they each bring something unique to the story. Their individual relationships with the main characters are essential to understanding who Abi and Tess are. Taunya’s well-meaning meddling is filled with sibling affection, while McCoy’s laid-back charisma steals every scene she’s in. McCoy’s mix of swagger and loyalty has main character energy, and I’m already counting down the days until we get her story—because let’s be real, sapphic Casanovas with soft hearts always deserve the spotlight.

Mental illness representation in romance is really starting to get traction and spotlight time, and For the 1000th Time doesn’t shy away from showing how anxiety can derail intimacy, identity, and self-perception. Tess’s inner voice is harsh, unforgiving—and painfully real. It’s not always easy to listen to, but it makes her journey toward self-acceptance all the more meaningful. Watching her allow herself to believe she might be worthy of love—especially Abi’s—feels like a quiet triumph.

For those who love character-driven romance, soft pining, and healing through love, this one will resonate deeply.

This is a quietly intense romance that doesn’t flinch away from pain—but ultimately, it leaves you with hope. A solid start to the Love in Vancouver series, and with McCoy on deck? I’m definitely tuning in for more.

**I was gifted a copy of this ARC for a honest review**

C.U.T.E. like so unbelievably cute. Abi returns to her home town after a 4 year absence for her best friends wedding. The best friends wedding goes hand in hand with seeing Tess, the brides sister. That was the "one that got away" after 1 night together 4 years ago that ended horribly, Tess has been the been on Abi's mind and Abi on Tess' mind. Both wondering "what could have happened" 4 years ago. After struggling through their own relationships and learning about themselves in the process, they are both in much different places then before. and ready to see what the two of them could really look like.

Totally worth the read, sweet and funny through out the book, and a few spicy scenes. Nothing too heavy though. I will totally be picking up a book trophy version of it.

A well written story with a well developed storyline and characters. I appreciated the way the author brought attention to what it’s like to live with anxiety and have a look into how a panic attack affects the character. The main protagonist is engaging and likable as are the supporting characters.

Abi left her hometown of Vancouver, B. C. for Toronto and returns several years later for her best friend’s wedding. Her best friend, Taunya, walked in on her older sister, Tess, and Abi having sex during Abi’s going away party. Taunya does not handle it well and demands they not get involved since it would threaten her friendship with Abi if it didn’t work out. Both honor Taunya’s request, but their feelings for each other remain all these years later.

Abi is an extrovert, single, speaks what she is thinking and still head over heels for Tess. Tess is quiet, struggles with severe anxiety and low self esteem. She is in a dysfunctional relationship that she feels she deserves.
Their feelings for each other haven’t been extinguished regardless of how they have both tried to move on. But, the focus is on Taunya and her upcoming nuptials.

Their friend group of five, McCoy, Sloan, Krystal, Taunya and Abi is close knit and they are there for each other. I enjoyed their connection and ease of being with each other. The author does a good job of giving us insight into each of their personalities and, I hear, a book on McCoy is in the works! Looking forward to learning more about Coy.

I enjoyed spending my Sunday devouring this yummy book. It has humor, witty banter, steam and the dreaded angst. The sweetness of the way Abi supports Tess during her anxiety episodes is heartwarming and I could feel her love for Tess.

I received an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sapphic romance isn’t my usual read, but I was graciously given an ARC of this book so wanted to leave a review. The first of the “Love in Vancouver” series, this is a sweet, sexy read. It explores the idea of love conquering all when the conflicts aren’t external, but rather internal dilemmas like past trauma, crippling anxiety, and a low sense of self worth. Love wins out in the end and we leave with a sweet happily ever after cut scene three years later. I look forward to McCoy’s story in the next of this series.

I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author about the rest of the friend group. I found it realistic because it explores living with anxiety and never feeling good enough. I don't think we have enough books that truly delve into and deal with this subject. Tess has been wronged enough times that she doens't believe in herself and throw in her anxiety on top of that she seems to be blind to the fact that Abi really truly is in love with her. I could relate to this character and her people pleasing tendencies and her relationship with her sister. I felt frustrated with the characters that Tess couldn't accept Abi's feelings for her weren't just a passing fancy. This book definitely took me through a myriad of emotions and I truly enjoyed the read.

Full of passion and heart!

Abi has loved her best friend’s older sister Tess for ages, but she never had a chance with her. Now her friend’s upcoming wedding has thrown Abi and Tess together. Will the excitement and romance of the festivities bring them closer or tear them apart forever?

For the 1000th Time is a sapphic romance full of longing and passion with two flawed but adorable main characters. Abi loves Tess with abandon and persistence, sometimes to her own detriment. Tess is warm and generous with everyone but herself. The author does an excellent job showing how the two women complement each others’ weaknesses and strengths, and how their physical chemistry builds from that. Their connection is sometimes enhanced and sometimes hindered by their surrounding colorful community of friends and family, who all feel realistic and comfortable.

The depth of emotions, humor, and passion make For the 1000th Time an entertaining and engaging read.

Tess has been Abi's crush since Abi was a teen. Not only is Tess a few years older than Abi, but she also happens to be the big sister of Abi's best friend, Taunya. Tess and Abi shared 1 heated night together 4 years prior to the start of the story, but haven't spoken or seen each other since. Taunya walked in on them and freaked out, resulting in Tess saying it was a mistake and that was that...or was it?

This second-chance romance deals with discovering your worth and believing it. Tess was very traumatized after her former girlfriend cheated on her, then Taunya freaking out when she walked in on her and Abi, and she hasn't recovered from any of it. Add in a generous helping of anxiety, and Tess is a walking recipe for disaster as she navigates her current relationship with a less-than-wonderful girlfriend (and that's being kind), and tries to sort out her feelings about Abi, who has returned home to Vancouver for Taunya's bachelorette week of festivities. With Tess being the maid of honor, the organizing of said festivities all falls to her, so there is no avoiding Abi and confronting their past history, and maybe, just maybe, deciding they might have a future together after all.

I read this book several times during its creation, and it has become one of my favorites. My best friend's sister is a great trope, and the author does a wonderful job of developing the MCs, as well as the supporting characters like the rest of the Fab Five crew (Taunya and Abi's friend circle), Taunya and Tess's parents, and others. The bachelorette activities are varied and fun, and not necessarily the typical things one would think of for pre-wedding celebrations. Most of all, the author really captures what is it like for someone who deals with major anxiety as a part of their life every single day. That and her handling of a scene involving a phobia are some of my favorite moments in the story.

I highly recommend checking this book out, especially if you enjoy a bit of angst sprinkled with a moderate amount of spice, plenty of laughs, and the joy of seeing someone finally realizing that they are indeed worthy of good things in life, including love.

Facing Life and Love Head-On

This is a touching love story of second chances and friendship, betrayal and loyalty, growth, and facing life and love head-on.

Tess is plagued by insecurity, second-guessing, and anxiety, which the author helps us readers feel intensely. She is a sensitive, talented introvert who's been hurt deeply and struggles to believe anyone, especially Abi, her younger sister Taunya's best friend, could feel anything real for her. And it doesn't help that Tauni made it clear to both women four years earlier that she would not put up with any relationship between her best friend and her older sister.

Well, Tauni's having a week of pre-wedding party adventures planned by Tess, and all of Taunya's friends, including Abi, will be attending the activities. Abi has never stopped loving Tess, not for lack of trying or in spite of getting her heart broken when Tess sent her away after Tauni caught them together and put her foot down.

This is a fun but emotional and realistic well-written story handling sensitive topics with care and compassion. The MC's as well as the supportive characters are flushed out and relatable. And the author draws the reader in, carrying you along, turning pages to discover how it all plays out.

There are some very sexy scenes, a lot of laughs, as well as difficult situations and interactions filled with doubt and heartbreak, but as Abi continues to risk her heart by sharing her feelings, she pushes Tess to make a decision. And just when we see Tess throwing any chance of love away, she finally decides to take a risk, but Abi's leaving, having finally accepted that Tess is not ready and may never be ready to believe Abi and take a chance with her.

Thank you, Jen-Lea Mercy, for the ARC and for writing a wonderful story, which I highly recommend. I enjoyed reading it and am happy to leave a review.

This touching love story explores themes of second chances, friendship, betrayal, loyalty, growth, and the challenges of facing life and love head-on. The protagonist, Tess, grapples with insecurities, self-doubt, and anxiety, drawing readers into her emotional journey. As a sensitive and talented introvert, Tess has been deeply wounded in the past and finds it difficult to trust anyone, especially Abi, her younger sister Taunya's best friend. Taunya had made it clear years ago that she disapproved of any romantic involvement between Abi and Tess.

However, as Taunya's pre-wedding festivities are planned by Tess, Abi, along with other friends, will be attending the activities. Despite the heartbreak Tess caused when she pushed Abi away due to Taunya's objections, Abi has remained in love with her. The story progresses, allowing Tess and Abi's relationship to develop. While the author skillfully portrays the struggles faced by this couple, I felt that the conclusion could have been more satisfying. The reader is given a deep understanding of the obstacles they overcome, but the resolution feels rushed. Nevertheless, this did not detract from my enjoyment of the story, although admittedly, I may have been greedy for more. The brief epilogue left me with a heartwarming smile.

I want to express my gratitude to the author for providing me with an advance copy of this touching book. It is a beautiful story that resonates and leaves a lasting impression. I eagerly await the author's next work. The book is now available on Amazon, and I highly recommend it to readers seeking an engaging and heartfelt read.

The start of a promising series!
This part of Tess and Abi was pure delight for my romantic soul!
Tess and Abi's story is a kind of second chance love story that has to overcome a hard times, anxiety and emotional and psychological hurdles.
Tess has not had an easy love life so far.
Her wishes, however, are simple and yet seemingly unattainable for her.
She wants a woman for life.
She wants a family, children and simply to share her deep, selfless love with the woman of her life.
Four years ago, she thought she had found this love and was rejected, disappointed and betrayed in an extreme way. On this night, when Tess experiences her greatest loss to date and is at her most vulnerable, Abi finally decides to pluck up the courage and make her endless love clear to Tess with actions instead of words.
It does not end well for anyone involved and now, after four years, Abi is returning home for the wedding of her best friend, Tess's sister Taunya!
Both have thought a lot about that one night and now the time has come to either heal old wounds or risk everything

I liked the dynamic between the friends, even though they sometimes teased each other, it was always out of love and care.
Tess's anxiety is also a difficult and very realistic topic.
It can take away all your self-esteem, when you are betrayed and hurt.
Loving yourself after such an experience is very difficult!
I'm sure some of those, who will read it will relate to it.
Abi's deep love and care for Tess was simply wonderful.
The whole book is like that and it's hot too ;))
I really enjoyed it.
Can't wait to read McCoy's story!

Tess is Abi’s best friend, Taunya’s, sister. After one life changing night 4 years ago, neither appears to have forgotten the other. The connection, the sense of rightness and the lust. But, family politics get in the way and they are forced apart. Until they are forced back into the others orbit at Taunya’s wedding, both being part of the bridal party; can they fight the attraction that appears to have just been simmering for four years. Four years!

The first in the Vancouver series, I loved what became the introduction to a host of characters that go onto be explored in the remaining books 2 and 3.

I really enjoy Jen-Lea’s writing style, it’s easy to fall into her characters, fall into their lives, loves and losses. (Too many L’s?!) but in all seriousness, I adored Tess and Abi. Tess, a chronically shy and introverted barber; who hadn’t seen Abi as anything more than her kid sisters friend until THAT night, and Abi, the marketing coordinator, who has thought of no one else since the age of 16! These two were playing the ultimate long game and I was invested!

The spice payout is wonderful and the introduction of the side characters was fantastic, some of whom go onto feature in the other books in the series. That being said, they can be read as stand alone novels so not essential. I read them in order and I think there’s something to be said for building up characters. Something Jen-Lea does exceptionally well. It’s all multilayered and I love it.

Grab it from KU now! (There’s also an audio!)

This book is by far my favorite read of the past few weeks.
I started reading this and I was immediately hooked by the way the characters were written and the emotions that were pouring out of the book. I love the fact that this is a slightly longer novel, which made it easier to fully immerse myself into the story and follow along.
It was heartbreaking at times to read how Tess felt and it was written so authentically that it almost made me cry (something that almost never happens when I'm reading a book). The way both Tess and Abi grow throughout the book is really great to read, even if it isn't always easy (for them and to read the struggles they go through). It also was quite surprising at some points and I loved that it wasn't always what I had expected whilst I was reading the book.
There were quite a few supporting characters, but they really added to the story and they were well written, so it was also easy to tell them apart by their behavior and such.
I can't help but hope that the author will decide to write another follow up novel where we see them navigate the difficulties of their new relationship, since the epilogue was great, but also didn't tell us that much. That might be one of the few points of critic that I can give, that the ending felt slightly rushed, especially compared to the rest of the book and also a bit of unnecessary angst in my opinion.
However, this was definitely an easy five star review to give and I look forward to more books from this author.

About five years earlier, Tess Moore had just broken up with her girlfriend, whom she'd found cheating on her with another woman. That night, Abi Young, best friend of Tess's sister, Tauni, came to her room and tried to comfort her. That led to the hottest night of sex she'd ever had with anyone. But when Tauni found out, she blew up at both of them. Tess yelled at Abi and then swore she'd never chase after Abi. And Abi moved to another city to escape the pain of unrequited love.

Abi never found anyone she connected with like Tess. And for that matter, neither had Tess. But Tauni's wedding was approaching and both of them would be bridesmaids in that wedding.

But when Abi comes home and has a private moment with Tauni, Tauni informs her that she was wrong, and that Abi might have been the best thing to ever happen to Tess. Unfortunately, Tess has a girlfriend, one who doesn't treat her very well, who demeans her, abuses her psychologically, and gaslights her.

This is the story of the two weeks leading up to the wedding, of all the tension involved, of all the pressure on Tess, since she's the maid of honor and planned the entire two weeks for her sister.

This was a fun story, and with a different twist, because the second time around, Abi knows that Tauni thinks its okay. All she has to do, is somehow convince Tess of this, not an easy task since Tess now sees herself as unlovable.

A Heartfelt Read with Hot moments too

Prepare yourself for 2 dramatic weeks of bridal preparations with a dramatic crew of friends and lovers. The biggest thing I applaud the author for is that Tess, her personality, her strengths and weakness were all a part of her throughout the book. Sure, she had to learn to put away the past and know she was worthy to be loved. She had to do that while living with anxiety, panic attacks and all. And we watched as her friends and family loved her through it all. At one point of the book, I was like, well, now I want Tess to plan a wedding week for me. At the same time, it was a glimpse of the lengths she would go through for the people she loved, at her own expense. There were also some really fun moments. I mean, kudos to Tess's sister and Derek. McCoy was quite the character that I look forward to reading up about. There are spicy moments which I enjoy, but you know, I was so vested in this love story that I really didn't need it. It was just... that good. I am an audiobook person. I had to put this book down several times, and it was always easy to pick back up.

My expectations weren't high for this, but I was interested enough to continue reading after trying the sample. This is a cute second-chance romance involving the best friend (Abi) and the sister (Tess) of the bride-to-be (Taunya). So it's all a bit complicated, especially since Abi's had a lifelong crush on her BFF's older sister and because Abi and Tess had a emotionally messy sexual night 4 years ago and because they have to spend two weeks together as a part of Taunya's bridal party.

I liked the cast of characters in this novel. And their pre-wedding festivities were a lot of fun to join as an observer. I didn't even mind the romance except for two things the author never convinced me of/solved, i.e:
- showing me what it is about Tess that Abi is able to hold onto a crush on her for so long, despite their history and living several years across the country, and
- why Tess never tries therapy again.
There's just very little chance I can buy into the first part without the work of the second part.

I did enjoy how Canadian this book is, though.

Cool story, easy to read, and an awesome group of secondary characters!
Years ago, Abi left Vancouver heartbroken after her crush on her best friend's older sister led to a one-night stand that didn’t end well. Now she’s back to attend her best friend's wedding—confident, sexy, and ready to prove to Tess she’s no longer the lovestruck young girl she once was. But Tess, being the responsible older sister, isn’t so easily persuaded, believing it would be a betrayal of her sister’s trust. With wedding festivities forcing them together, old feelings resurface, and unresolved tension lingers.
Most of the story revolves around the wedding celebrations and the many adventures of Tess's sister's friend group. Each character adds to the fun, making this an enjoyable read. There’s plenty of drama, and I was hooked, eager to see how it would all unfold. The push-and-pull dynamic between Abi and Tess had me frustrated at times—Tess made me want to shake her, BUT Abi’s infinite patience had me rooting for them to finally get together.

I enjoy reading about romances between best friends and their older sisters, but this book had a different approach. In this story, Tess, the older sister, is the one struggles with low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. Although this was a refreshing change, as I read more chapters, I felt confused because Tess's behavior seemed more like that of a younger sister, and it kept bothering me. One thing that also bothered me is that, at 30% of the book, the plot was revealed too soon; it laid all of the cards on the table, making me lose interest in the book. Overall, it was an okay read for me, but maybe it just wasn't the right book for me.

The moment I saw one of the characters unironically use the word "unalive," I had a feeling I wasn't going to enjoy this book. Just couldn't vibe with the characters, who were either one-dimensional or felt like placeholders. Not feeling the chemistry from the leads at all, either.

And what was the point of a couple of chapters later in the epilogue? Felt like a way to justify the when it should've been part of the story in the first place.
