About the author

I was born in Krefeld, Germany in 1976 and still live there under the caring eyes of my wife and two Norwegian Forest cats. Originally a publishing salesman, I couldn't resist the lure of writing, and after over a dozen years of playing the gamemaster in pen-and-paper groups, not to mention reading hundreds of fantasy novels, I decided to finally try to write a story myself that I thought might be worth telling. And so my novel Ahren was published in Germany, the first in the best-selling series The 13th Paladin.

When I am not creating new worlds and stories, I like to relax by playing pen-and-paper and story rich video games, reading or binging on TV series. I also practise Jiu Jitsu and the art of handling ancient Japanese weapons like the Katana or the Bo Staff.

Super spannend und toll geschrieben! Hab richtig mitgefiebert und zusammen mit den Liedern des Saltatio-Mortis-Albums und den dazugehörigen DSA-Abenteuern ein rundum episches Vergnügen.
Mir sind die Charaktere (sowohl die Spielmannstruppe, vor allem aber Haldana und Gramosch) sehr ans Herz gewachsen.

I read this book to prepare for a Pen & Paper campaign featuring the characters introduced here. It genuinely felt like a roleplay adventure, which I found interesting, though I had to get used to it. The writing started off a bit flat and simple but improved as the story progressed. The characters were lovable, and overall, it was an entertaining journey through a high fantasy world—tense at times, often funny, and occasionally rather bloody—but ultimately not quite my cup of tea. :)

If you have read other books by Bernhard Hennen, you know that he describes his characters very deeply. Here the characters are described very superficially. Nevertheless, this book made me start reading again after 10 years without reading. I enjoyed it very much, but it is not comparable with the Shadow Elf saga, for example. I devoured 3 out of 5 volumes immediately afterwards.

Ein Roman wie ein klassisches DSA Abenteuer! Perfekte Lektüre für alle Spieler und auch gut geeignet für Neueinsteiger in der Welt von "Das schwarze Auge". Grandiose Charaktere die einem direkt ans Herz wachsen!

Spannende Geschichte, ließt sich ob der teilweise eher schlecht als recht eingebetteten Zitate aus den Songs vom Album leider eher wie eine mittelmäßige Fanfiction. Und warum auch immer sind dem Lektorat erschreckend viele Rechtschreibfehler durch die Lappen gegangen.

Ein Buch wie ein Abendteuer in der Welt des Schwarzen Auges! Herrliche Charaktere und sehr stimmungsvoll! Ich will definitiv mehr von Gramosch und Haldana lesen!
