Emma has built a new life far from the American South that once held her heart. A decade has passed since she left behind the secrets and forbidden desires that still linger in the corners of her memory.
But fate has a way of bringing the past to the present. A sudden yearning for the familiar draws Emma back to the place she once called home. With hesitant fingers, she reaches out to a former friend, hoping to rekindle a love that time and distance could not extinguish.
As the flames of passion reignite, Emma is faced with the consequences of forbidden longing and the ghosts of choices made long ago. In the shadow of Parisian boulevards and Southern magnolias, she must navigate the complexities of desire, forgiveness, and the enduring power of a love that refuses to be forgotten.
Will Emma find solace in the arms of her past, or is the cost of rekindling forbidden love too steep?
I would say this is forbidden and lost love wrapped into one.
Paris is a cleverly written book. Exchanged letters between lovers fill these pages. Their forbidden love confessed on ink and paper as the fire between them blazes brighter than ever before. Destined to be together but carried along the wings of fate.
A beautifully written love story of two women. Veronica Tyler gives you a suspenseful, hazy love feeling as you witness soulmates converse through letters and discover the love they have always had for each other.
Such a great read for those who believe in soulmates, fate and true love.

“The dresses became more than mere garments; they transformed into vessels of emotion, woven with threads of anticipation, longing, and the profound desire to create an unforgettable moment.”
Veronica Tyler’s poetic, debut novella will leave you breathless. Rich with emotionally developed characters, Paris is a reading experience I will never forget. Its superb pacing allows you to flow through each page just as a pen glides across paper. Paris is the first book/novella I felt so enthralled by that I had no other choice but to finish it in one sitting.
Only one word comes to mind to describe this novella: beautiful.
I couldn’t put this down once I started. The author has such a compelling way of telling such a poetic story. My heart strains with the “what ifs” of this story.
Fabulous debut for Veronica Tyler!! I cannot wait to see what else this author puts out!!
I’m not sure I’ve ever felt so impacted by a novella. VT succeeds here as a result of poetic prose and succinct story telling. The writing sparkles with energy and creativity, and the plot is wonderfully constructed.
Another strength lies in how well this book flows. Indeed, at no point in the story did I ever feel the need to take a break or put the book down (I read it cover to cover in one sitting). But what’s more, is that while the book is paced exceedingly well, the writing keeps up. VT never loses her grip on the pen, and neither do her characters.
The novella also possesses a very heavy and intricate purpose. There’s a level of pureness found here that I find present in most of the great stories I’ve read. But that’s not to say this won’t twist the knife into your heart.
Truly an astounding debut novella. Paris is poetic in every sense of the word: prose, themes, and plot, managing to capture a shocking amount of emotion and character building in under 90 pages.
I won’t spoil the format of this novella, but it serves the story and the experience extremely well. I found myself anxiously turning the page like our protagonist awaiting a letter.
“It had been a love that defied reason and restraint, a force of nature that had swept them both off their feet.”
I could not put this novella down once I started. Veronica’s lyrical prose deeply portrays the characters’ inner most emotions with such heartaching beauty. I found myself full of longing and melancholy with each turn of the page. The format was chosen well, and I believe this novella reads as the author intended. Many lines struck a chord within my own heart, my own history, and the history of many women past.
“Love, she believed, should be soft and delicate. How unnatural it was for a woman to be with men.”
I look forward to future works by this author. Veronica certainly knows how to evoke deep emotions within prose.

This was really really cute. It was my first non-erotic “love” focused book. It was sweet. The vocabulary was so poetic and enchanting. You could feel the emotions through the words. It was lovely. Felt like a fairytale from start to finish. And with it being under 100 pages I read it in about 40 minutes! What an adorable little book.
So, enjoyable! I thought the writing of this Novella was wonderful! The use of letters as the main form was delightful.
The two characters were very easy to follow and associate with. Additionally, I really liked them both and the fact that the other characters were very readable and reliable really made the story special.
Fast pace reading is what I like! This story does it for you it’s a great story and one I could not put down.
I highly recommend this book and I’m looking forward to reading any sequel.

A well-written and powerful story of love, love lost and love re-gained, at least momentarily, with all of its issues and problems. It isn't a simple story as you might expect when you start reading, but it unfolds slowly as the reader becomes more and more enamored of the characters and as their childhood histories unfold. Honestly, the ending was a bit sudden, but it was a fast read that left me wanting more from this author! I was lucky to have received an ARC of this book.
Thank you to Book Sirens for the ARC of this novella.
Paris is a novella about the unrequited love of two childhood friends. They had a falling out and it’s been years since they’ve seen one another or spoken. Now they live in two separate countries and Emma has decided to see if she can reconnect with Paris. The story is told in part through their letters to one another.
This debut work by Veronica Tyler contains beautiful prose that is unfortunately hampered by the overall storyline. For a novella of around 80 pages, the author takes far too long to establish the time period and add much needed context for this story. Eventually, we find out that this is set during the Reagan administration. With this time period in mind, we can understand why the two MCs communicate through letters rather than phone calls. International calls would be quite expensive during that time, and the options that we have today just didn’t exist – so forget about emails, texts, or DMs.
Knowing the time period also establishes another key plot point, which I won’t get into because it’s a major spoiler. This key plot point though is disappointing because it felt as though the lesbians in this novella were being punished, which was disheartening to say the least.
Overall, the storyline needs a bit of a rework here. Beautiful language and sentence construction is contained throughout this novella; however, the ending was not what I wanted or what I was expecting for much of the story.
I am in awe of Paris. The moment I saw it’s brilliant cover, I knew I had to read the book. I don’t know what it was, but I needed to read it, even though the blurb informed me that it was a genre (Romance) I hardly ever read. Paris is an epistolary novella in parts, which makes it all the more appealing. The plot is an emotional rollercoaster, a cliched statement, but true in this case as I went through the myriad emotions the protagonists suffer during the book's duration. The writing is simple yet effective and laden with longing, tragedy, and love, themes that form the crux of the plot. Paris is a beautiful novel that explores forbidden love and regret while acting as a cautionary tale about how we often let go of the people we love the most over minor differences. In the book’s simplicity lies tremendous complexity which is why Paris is probably the best book I’ve read this year. I wasn't as impacted as many of the other readers by this prose, which I found far too "flowery" and pretentious. The chapters alternate between letter correspondence and a brief interlude of each woman reacting to the latest letter, letters which are written using this same pretentious and old-fashioned wording style that sound more appropriate for people one hundred years prior. It took most of the book to figure out when this story is intended to be set and it's roughly the early 80s, but for whatever reason these two never think to call the other and instead wait weeks between each new letter. By the end, it felt more to me to be someone's thesis final for a writing degree than an intentional piece of literature. I never had a clear "picture" of these characters either physically or as a motivated, living person. It was short, but at the same time rather pointless to me.

What a delightful read, I cannot express the depth of my feelings reading it. It was a fast paced book, I devoured it in one sitting and it stirred so many emotions in me. I love how beautifully written in was, I love the poetry of it, I love the relationship between Emma and Paris, I love their tragic fate. The ending was unexpected and heartbreaking but it felt right. It is still slightly frustrating but in a good way. This book deserves nothing less than 5 stars and I am over the moon and will probably think of it all day long.
This was a beautifully written novella. The tenderness the characters expressed to each other was incredibly touching. I was able to finish the read within just a few hours. The end surprised me in a way that was unexpected. There was a theme of forbidden love and melancholy throughout the story but again, I didn’t see the ending coming. A beautiful and moving expression of anguish. I feel so sorrowful for both Emma and Paris, for what was and what could have been. Well done.

Veronica Tyler has written a story that takes her characters on a journey both internal and external. Emma is far away from the American South ,living life in Paris, enjoying the beauty of the city. But something tugs her back home. There is a secret she needs to confront and only when she returns home does she fully understand her desire. This story would appeal to readers who love romances with a twist.

Veronica Tyler personally victimized me with this plot. She allowed me to create an intense attachment to both Emma and Paris in under 100 pages. I’m in hysterics to say the least and I can’t pinpoint if it was the yearning, love, or loss that started my emotional downfall while reading. I am so impressed by Veronica Tyler’s debut novella. It was gripping from the beginning and has caused me to mentally spiral (in a good way).

An exploration of love and it's many forms. How does your past impact who you are, and how would it be to reconnect with individuals who knew you when, but don't know you know? The terror of not having changed faces the terror of having changed too much. Paris explores the roads left behind, but many times, those roads are now closed to us. Highly recommend as a solid short read of historical romance.
To anyone who has loved and lost, this is a story of devotion you will not want to miss. I never knew closure could be so woefully beautiful, nor heartbreakingly unexpected.
This story is uniquely written and leaves you breathless while considering your own forbidden love and deepest secrets.
This is a book for those who truly know themselves, and what they want, despite what others think and want for them.
Such a beautiful and tragic short story of the love story between Emma and Paris. It is mainly told in poetic letter form between the former friends and lovers and these letters are really showing the love they have for each other that was impossible at the time of this story. It made me dream of having a love like they have.

This story follows the snail mail correspondence between Paris and Emma. It is so sweet to read their letters throughout the years despite not talking for a while. It made me smile and get emotional because it seems like despite everything their friendship's foundation is solid. I just wish that we had more indication of the settings and their lives apart from the letters.

The ambiance is just everything. The two main characters communicate via letters and honestly that’s just the lesbian dream. I’m screaming and crying and throwing up and crying again. And to Veronica, I don’t know if I should thank you or name the time and place. I need more.
The story is beautiful, the writing is excellent and easily moves the reader into the story through emotion and images. Paris and Emma lovers separated by circumstances, expectations and an ocean. After a decade they reunite through correspondence that slowly reminds them of a passion never lost. I received this as an ARC copy but have purchased it.
Wow. I cannot believe this is the debut novella. The writing is beautiful & I was completely immersed in the story all day. As a romantic & a queer individual i feel like it captured the beauty of queer love & joy. So often queer peices focus so much on the pain and suffering. This was absolutely stunning. I cannot wait for future books & peices.
I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet read, the writing was beautiful and the way the author told this story kept me engaged until the very last page. I wish it had been longer, for I did not want it to end!
Secret love, betrayal, anger and romance. Wow…this story was packed with all of the emotions and I felt every one of them. My heart aches for one of the characters and this is a story I won’t soon forget.
I absolutely fell in love with this book! The range of emotions that I felt in those 90 pages, felt like a rollercoaster. Thanks to booksirens for a free copy to review.
I quite enjoyed this novella. The characters were lovely and I really liked the format of the back and forth letters between the two main characters. Took me quite a while to figure out the timeframe in which it was set, although it became obvious for reasons I won’t state here, so as not to spoil it for others.
The prose was quite poetic and lovely to read. Very romantic. I would definitely recommend it and would read other books by this author.
