Dad got this for me! Actually pretty helpful in clarifying what my dream job for me…for better or for worse, I think I’m working it already 🤣

My husband got me this as I was struggling to feel excited about the work I was doing and as a high achiever, I didn’t feel like my supervisors were providing ample advice or direction for me to succeed.

I liked that Ken pointed out you didn’t need to leave your company necessarily, but said to look around at other available roles. I was previously in a data role with very few interactions with others. After finding out my top strength was networking, I’ve now been in my new supply chain role for 5 months now. I’m interacting with people daily and have never felt like my work matters more.

I enjoyed doing the Get Clear Assessment and identifying my strengths, my passions, and how to combine the two to find meaningful and fulfilling work. And while the assessment and the book did prompt a lot of reflection about my current career trajectory, I still did feel it was over generalized and could be more specific.

All my favorite quotes from the book:

You do matter because you do have something special to offer through your work.

The secret to winning in your work is to get on the right seat on the right bus. The right seat is where you’re using what you do best to do work you love in order to produce results that deeply matter to you. The right bus is where you’re recognized and rewarded for your unique contributions and you have a relationship with your leader. That relationship is defined by the leader caring about you personally and developing you professionally

Talent: what you do best
Passions: what you enjoy doing most
Mission: the mark you most want to make

Passions
Love it: 75%
Like it: 20%
Could do without it: 5%

Self Reflection questions for mission
* which results from your past have mattered so deeply that they still make you proud to this day
* Where do you volunteer
* What types of causes inspire you or deeply concern you

Talent is a technical measure.
Passion is an emotional measure.
Mission is a foundational measure.

Working in your talents gives you success
Working in your talents and passions gives you satisfaction
Working in your talents, passions and mission give you significance

Make a list of what drains you versus what boosts you.
Look at all your tasks for the week, and write down which talents you’re using. Are you using the ones that you are most naturally gifted in?

“I want to use these talents to do this type of work that I really love because I want to see these type of results”

Now that you’ve identified who you are and where you are, you can turn your focus to identifying where you want to be

What problem or desire do you want to solve?
What solution do you want to provide?
Who are the people you most want to help?

The most important part of the clarify/verify/explore process is coming to the point. Where both your heart in your head say yes without reservation.

Truth is, you were never actually unclear about which job you wanted most. You were just afraid of picking the wrong one. Too many people end up doing nothing because of the paralysis of the analysis. You’re trying to answer all the questions and look at things from every angle, which is good, but you end up doing nothing.

This book was mid. It offered some vague ideas to me but nothing phenomenal. I should preface that I borrowed this book from the library and did not have access to the “Clear Career Assessment” test. Maybe my review would have been different had I had access to this test, however, it kind of inherently seems like a scam to me that the author wants you to purchase his assessment, and not for cheap. That could just be me. But I don’t know the book was okay I guess but nothing special. I still don’t know what direction to take for my career, and I was hoping this book would help me with that.

I enjoy Ken Coleman’s podcast a lot, but his books are not up to par. This book feels more like a cash grab, it’s not useless but it’s a lot of the same stuff from his podcast. If you’re not familiar with his podcast or just started listening to it then this will probably help out. Other than that it’s expensive but you do get the assessment with the book.

I feel like this enhanced what I already know… it highlighted what my gut is/has been telling me. Also saw a review saying it was very generalized: I agree. A bit repetitive at times but still a great tool and assessment I will be referencing in the future !

It's an okay read if you want extra help discovering what you want to do in your life.

The main point of the book is to get you to take an online career assessment test that determines what you're good at, what you're passionate about, and what you currently have talent in, then gives some feedback to help sort out ideal career options with those factors in mind.

I don't believe it provides more than what the O*net does for free, except perhaps that it also takes into account your current skills and passions. Even that isn't necessarily helpful, because the advice given is more to explain what each section of the test is supposed to mean and how you should think about it. Being a generalized book, there's only so much guidance that can be given to help a majority of the people to keep it relevant to as many people as possible.

If you're desperate for career advice and this seems like a good resource to you, then go for it, I don't think there's any bad advice here. Just know that the book's purpose is to explain a test that you take online, which again, the O*net provides at least just as good of feedback for free and will also provide career ideas for you based on your results.

The Get Clear Assessment is a good primer for those wanting to understand where they fit in a professional setting. The book is an explanation of the results that come with the online Get Clear Assessment and provides you with writing prompts to dig deep and explore some of these questions. I found the assessment results to be very accurate with one or two coming to me as a surprise. The book explains this though and provided me with the reassurance with what I needed to focus on to become more marketable. Highly recommend this book for someone potentially going through a career change or just finishing high school.

A quick and effective way to clarify where you want to be in your career. It is imperative that you complete the assessment so if you borrow this book from the library, you’ll need to be prepared to purchase the assessment from the website. Otherwise, you won’t understand the book or your career goals.

This book got straight to the point and helped me to narrow down options for work, as well as reassure me that my next career move was in the right direction. It affirmed my talents, passions, and mission in regard to work.

This book was a very quick read which is part of my problem. It seemed like more of an introduction to the concepts of personality and work. It was just very shallow and lacking. Having the questions at the end of each chapter to help readers dive a bit deeper into their results was nice but it was only 2-3 which can’t lead to much. I just felt like this book could’ve done so much more. However, being that it’s a simple read and introduction I would recommend it as a starting point for a high school or college student.

I've never heard about this author before, and I was in the process of changing/exploring other career paths. The process of figuring out what to do about careers was very stressful for me - finding a good career counselor is hard and costly, too. But this book really helped clarify and even verify what I could and probably should aim for. I'd consider this book a good starting point in anyone's career exploration journey. The AI generated career assessment was helpful and I liked that it gave me lots of job/work ideas tailored personally to me.

Very helpful self assessment even if you borrow a copy from the Library and don’t have access to the quiz. I know myself pretty well, so between my self knowledge and my partner‘s knowledge of me it was fairly easy to narrow down what my talents and passions were. I will be purchasing at a later date to get the code for the quiz, but it was still helpful in the meantime.

It’s not a bad book, it’s just super short.

It goes hand-and-hand with the assessment, buy the book, you essentially get the assessment for free.

Plus, the book is more of a motivator to follow your results, I think if you got the assessment you wouldn’t gain anything else from the book.

The results, however, are very accurate and definitely worth the money if you feel stuck.

Good read with the "Get Clear Assessment" to give people who may be deciding what to do with their careers if they feel somewhat lost like I do. The assessment gives a clear and detail-oriented idea of what you could thrive in as a career, and what you would not. It gives the reader a good direction and idea of what they may want to do as a career as a jumping off point.

This book kinda sucked. As much as I love Dave Ramsey and all his principles, this book was not it. It’s full of fluff, if anything just get the assessment and you will get as much out of it as with the book. They just reiterate everything on the assessment a million times and give some examples. Pretty disappointed, the assessment was pretty good though.

I got this as a gift from my dad for my 20th birthday. It had some interesting concepts, but I do wish it had more specific examples of, for example, what sorts of jobs you should look at if you are more ideas focused or more processes focused or what have you

Aside from helping me to better understand what aspects of myself I can use in my career. This book also helped push me to begin organizing my giant list of “potential future careers” and REALLY start narrowing the playing field.

A really awesome resource.

Thank you, Ken Coleman!!!

I enjoyed determining my talents, passions, and mission and learning more of my purpose statement.

I just wish this book would be more specific on the details and didn’t force you to buy the next book!

Thankfully I found The Proximity Principle and From Paycheck To Purpose at my library.

Note: this book requires the results of the Get Clear Career Assesment to be useful. A code is included with all new copies. Otherwise, it's thirteen dollars. With the results, this book is a wonderful way to identify your talents, passions, and mission when it comes to work.

The assessment was helpful! The book was redundant in my opinion, and since the assessment is one-time use, it feels pointless to try to pass the book on to someone else.

Finally! Some actual clarity about what my label says on the outside of the jar I'm in! Not only clarity but a workable path forward. Enneagram, Strengths Finder, Myers/Briggs, DiSC, none REVEALS you and EQUIPS you with a plan like this did for me.
