It is not like I have read many PNR’s but I read one review of Gabriel, decided to add it to my TBR then was kindly given a copy of it by the author in return for an honest review.

This is what I would call a little Gem in my world of Paranormal Normal. ❤

Even though this book is only just over 60 pages long it had it all. It was captivating. It was sexy. It had me wanting for more. And the chemistry between Calista and Gabriel was HOT!

Calista possess a sacred gift. Her power is one of gelding which deprives those of their powers. And she uses her power on vampires. But what is unique about her gift is that it lies within sex. In order for her to be satisfied sexually she needs to be with a vampire. But all this does is leaves Calista devoid of emotions and expectations. That is until she crosses paths with Master Vampire, Gabriel.

Finding herself in a situation where she is being forced to use her special powers so that Gabriel can eliminate his competition Calista decides she won’t resist. She gets what she needs and Gabriel gets what he wants. But after one intense meeting with Gabriel something unexpected happens and she knows things will never be the same.

Honestly, I was really surprised with my reaction to this book. Once I got going I couldn’t put it down.

I wasn’t expecting to be sucked in so quickly, especially being a short book but I was. I also wasn’t expecting the seductive moments and how fiery these two would be together. Here is just one moment…

”Pressed against his strapping chest, nipples erect, a delicious ripple pulsing between her thighs, she kissed him harder. He instantly tightened his grip on her, his mouth ravishing hers, his body radiating desire and…and what? She had to stop him right this minute or they would end up having sex in the back of the car....".

This was definitely worth the read. If you are into PNR or if you have thought about giving the genre a try, I would highly recommend you pick this one up. ❤

He was the first one and, deep down, she believed he was the only one.

Calista is one of the chosen to possess a gift so unique her prey is left lacking, caught unexpected and unaware. When darkness falls, she does what she is born to do; and one by one she takes them down until she is found wanted by a Master Vampire, Gabriel.
Gabriel’s ruthlessness and ferocity fascinated her. His raw power and carnality were spellbinding. As tender as he could be, she also understood the animal in him, the untamed beast that set her blood on fire.

Forced to be his secret weapon she agrees to help Gabriel, justifying that by doing so she will be saving much more lives. However the secret to her power lies within sex, she has to rid herself of all feelings and emotions to survive. Gabriel seeks power and ridding himself of competition is a way to gain more control, but his secret weapon is proving herself to be more than he ever expected, both taking each other by surprise. With one touch from Gabriel, she knows there is no going back, but how would it ever work, he is everything she was born to hate.

While I was chatting with my friend Bridget, I became very intrigued with this book. It got me thinking, how could a short book cause such a powerful response out of a reader, so I gave it a go and found out first hand for myself. This book is about 70 pages, but while I was reading it felt so much longer, and not in a bad drawn out kinda way. It was spellbinding, for such a short book I found myself being sucked into their world, speaking volumes on the authors skill. Sex was a means to an end but every time Gabriel came into a scene I was literally squirming with anticipation. I do wish it was longer though, I wanted more of Gabriel. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the author’s work, because this was definitely worth the read.

*Thanks Bridget for the push I needed to read this book :) It was everything you said and more!

4 STARS!
Before Him, the prequel to Gabriel, must be read before this.

This was a fantastic pnr! The vampire world here is intriguing and different from the usual fare. Calista has finally met her match in the master vampire, Gabriel. Through a fateful turn of events, she's summoned by him and made to strike a deal benefitting them both. But something about Gabriel is different, not only is he sexy, bigger than life and oddly emotional, he also stirs things in Calista she never thought possible, and by a vampire no less. For her ability to geld a vampire Gabriel wants out of the way, her life is secured and promises of pleasure given.

Gabriel was a mystery right till the end, but I loved him. He was supportive and caring where others could never be. The odd chemistry between him and Calista was just as confusing to him as to her, but neither could predict how explosive their union could be. I know this was short, but it packed a punch. The story flowed easily, the world building intriguing, leaving me hoping this series was more drawn out. But most importantly, the unusual and fresh plot shook up the pnr I've read in the past. The steam was scorching and Gabriel was a dirty talker! Oh, these wicked vampires!

I was pleased with the ending and glad it didn't end abruptly as novellas often do. I'm excited to check out other work by this author, I really enjoyed her writing style. So if you're into pnr, even if you're not, this is a quick and entertaining series to read.

3.5* out of 5*

Meet Calista, a gelder who preys on vampires. She lures them into thinking she's a scared, helpless woman and when the poor suckers (no pun intended) fall for the trick, they find themselves defanged. In a very effective and pleasurable way if I may say so, you see Calista's gelder gift only works when she has sex.

When a recent defanged victim comes with a proposition to trap the master vampire, Gabriel, she accepts. Thinking to trap and use her powers on him gets her all excited, but things didn't go as planned. As she was the one who was trapped instead, squirming rather than dancing to Gabriel's tunes. Seems to me Calista isn't the only trickster on the block.....

“He told me you wouldn’t harm me,” she said in her meekest tone, acting scared and vulnerable. “You gave your word.”
“I said I wouldn’t lay a finger on you.” He hovered his massive hand over her belly. “I never said I wouldn’t lay a finger in you.”

I think it's clear that with Gabriel you have to listen carefully to what he says, to what he promises. And take it literally, cause he says exactly what he means. Gabriel was more than just the stereotypical big bad vampire I had thought him to be, I'm sorry Gabriel I had misjudged you. Same goes for Calista ,she wasn't the usual heroine either, with her unusual power and lack of sympathy for her victims. And I think that therein lies the true strength of this book, how different the world and character building is compared to other books in this genre.

As much as I liked the characters, there were also a few things I didn't like. For example this next little thing here.

“Whatever I say in there,” he whispered, “do it!”

He's whispering right, why the explanation mark? There were other times where I felt it wasn't really necessary either, am mainly talking about Gabriel's sentences. Because in my head Gabriel already was this big, dominant man that eluded power, so in my opinion he didn't need those.

As I have mentioned before the strength of this book is that it's different from the others in this genre. In this book the world of vampires is not romanticized, vampires are manipulative and cruel. And sometimes the only way to survive is by tricking your way through life. And you have two professional tricksters here who have done so successfully.

“All you have to do is act, and give them a good show from time to time.”

I found myself enjoying the read, things got pretty heated between the couple, than I turned the page and I saw I had reached the end. Wouldn't call it an abrupt ending but I was looking at the page numbers and I had anticipated 6 pages more. Oh well still liked this short but very steamy read, thank you Anne for recommending this one to me. I wouldn't have want to miss Calista and Gabriel's story.

This is one of those books that I wish would’ve been longer. I could’ve easily and gladly read 200 more pages about Gabriel and Calista. This novella though is only 60+ pages long.

Calista is a “gifted” human, she possesses a special power that can destroy a vampire. To employ this power, she needs to have sex with her vampire victim, which is not a problem for her since she is solely attracted to vampires and not human males. Although Calista is content with her life purpose to annihilate vampire bloodlust, this changes when she meets the powerful Master Gabriel.

In short books or novellas I often find authors have difficulties developing adequate characterization. Although Calista’s character could’ve been fleshed out more (or maybe this occurred in the short prequel that I haven’t read), I was fascinated by Gabriel. The author more than adequately conveys his raw power, strength, and uniqueness. Gabriel is not like other vampires because he has emotions and feelings that Calista perceives and embraces. He also has another secret that makes him different. I wanted to read more about him, get to know him and his thoughts, and by the end of the book I just plainly wanted him.

The story is short, intriguing and entertaining. We have an evil villain, a strong heroine, a powerful alpha hero with the power to love regardless of his nature, fighting action scenes, and very hot steamy sex. I do recommend this book if you enjoy short novellas and vampire tales.

Calista is a gelder. "Instictively drawn to vampires, she always does what she is born to do. She gelds. No feelings, no emotions, only deeds." At first, I was a little fearful, what did she geld with, a blunt knife ? But no, she gelds the vampires by having sex with them. This is what she is, she can't escape it. She tried having sex with normal men, then with rougher men, but only vampires do it for her.

The novella/short story made me think of Buffy : the vampire she finds first looks a little like Spike (except the long hair), Gabriel looks like Angel and the "undo it, undo it" was a familiar type of dialogue ^^ Also, a young woman carrying a heavy burden.
But there stops the similarity. The vampires are no brooding romantic heroes, their animal nature is fully revealed and their actions are harsh.

I loved the bewitching writing, it gives a fully fantastic feel to the story. Like we're gathered around a fire listening to a tale. But not a children's tale ! The language is sometimes crude, there is violence, there is hot sex, yet the story is original, it surprised and captured me. My only regret was that it didn't last longer !

Thanks a lot to Anne J. from Goodreads for the enthusiastic and warm recommendation ! I'm on to discovering more novels by this author :)

First Impression

Was this book hot or what?!!!

What do I think?

I so did not expect this book to be this good nor really hot. This is a paranormal/vampire story which I'm not really a great fan of but this book had me captivated from the first page! Calista has a special talent that every vampire should be worried about or every vampire should be happy about. Depends on which vampire you ask. Enter Gabriel, a very old, scary and powerful vampire who had crossed path with Calista and that's when the story starts.

I could not put this book down, once I got started with this, my head was just buried in my tablet! It was a very well written book that didn't bored me to tears with inconsequential details. For a short story, it covered everything of what you would expect from a full length novel. The pacing was just right and the characters were well developed. I liked it that it delved right away into the story without boring details about the characters background.

And boy was this a hot read! The erotic scenes would just make your ears burn!!

I thoroughly enjoyed it! My only complaint is, it's too short. I wish it was a full length story.

Last Say

I want an epilogue!!!

This book is Sex on Fire, seriously! Though it is a short read, it is well worth it! Once you get going, you won't be able to put it down.
One of my favorite things about this book is that the World of Vamps is completely different then what we've come to expect from PNR books. This was a definite refreshing look at something I love.

I'm not ashamed to say that I reread this book, twice, before posting my review. I'm telling you, it's that delicious! If you haven't read this yet.. I suggest you do!

I only gave this 4 stars (though my Kindle review states that I would actually give 4.5-4.75 now and would give 5 if it was longer) on Amazon because I usually read much longer stories on there. However, because I generally read shorter stories on here, I definitely think it deserves 5 stars! I was given a copy of this in exchange for an honest review. I would absolutely recommend this to anybody who likes erotic paranormal romance stories! Considering how short this book is, I was amazed that it was able to contain everything it contains! Despite it's length this story has a lot! I was able to get to know the characters with surprising depth, connect to their stories enough to be able to develop a liking for them and hopes for their futures, and I truly enjoyed reading the erotic scenes...."Hot" only begins to describe them! I must admit, some of the erotic scenes had me wishing my husband was home so we could reenact them! LOL! Of course, it helped that the description of Gabriel had me picturing my husband in his place. Thank you, Chris Lange, for writing so well and for giving me a copy to read and review! Keep up the awesome work!

Let me begin by saying I loved the premise of Ms. Lange’s paranormal erotic world. The heroin, Calista, has a gift and it’s not exactly a vampire’s best friend. I like Calista’s character and her joy in sexual liaisons with the undead even when she plans to destroy them.

Gabriel is wonderful and it’s hard not to like him from the beginning. It doesn't hurt that I have a “thing” for the name Gabriel. I very much enjoyed the story, characters, and the author’s European vernacular. Certain words caused me to chuckle throughout the course of the story, “After hoisting her skirt up, he ripped her knickers off.”

I felt the writing was choppy in places but I have a feeling that as Ms. Lange’s experience with the pen continues, her work will grow into the great stories she is destined to write. I’m hoping for more of this world but know I will enjoy whatever she develops in her nasty talented thoughts.

This books was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

This is a 5 star Novella!

Just what I needed after a long tedious novel, but that is litterally another story.

I love the name Calista, she fits the name well. Sassy and independant with a unique power that any master vampire would love to have under his control. Well, having her under his control as well is just the icing on the cake.

I was a little frustrated with the 'insta love'. Yes, it is inevitable in a novella. However, I was quickly rewarded with some good story line and I was pleasently supprised.

Chris gave us some steamy hotness with some excellent variety (bumped the book from a 3 star to a 5 star I might add) and some great characters with a dash of story line. And that is how we like our erotica novellas no?!

I would certainly be intirested in picking up other books by Lange!

I got this as a birthday present from my mother in law (I know.. Shocker!) and OH what a great present it is! It seems Chris Lange knows no boundaries with what she can write and has yet to disappoint. Now that's skill :)

Calista is HOT for vampires. They are all that can get her blood moving to all the right places. But little do all of those vampires know that she is a gelder. Her skill is to suck the vamp out of vampire.

Gabriel is a Master vampire that holds many secrets and desires. He is in awe when one of his desires is brought through his door by another vampire. But he plays his cards the best way he can and keeps his poker face strong so as to keep them all in the dark. Especially Calista.

Together Gabriel and Calista have a plan to help Gabriel get his long awaited revenge. Gabriel also has a promise to keep to Calista and what a promise it is!

★I was offered a review copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!!★

3.75 stars!!☆☆☆☆

Surprisingly, this was actually a really good read. I read it in one sitting and found it very intriguing and utterly sensual and romantic. Such a different twist in PNR romance.

Chris Lange really does a great job of creating a FULL, well developed, story for a short novella that's under 100 pages. Normally, I find this lacking in many novellas but Lange manages to pull it off with flair!

Great job Chris! A very fast and very unique read!

3.5 Fang-tastic stars

A searingly hot erotic romance enveloped around a very original vampire premise.

Calista, the heroine with a great name in this short story, has a very unique way of defanging vampires accessible only through intercourse. That’s correct, she needs to have sex with the vampire she intends to geld. She despises her natural born enemies, but enjoys unmanning them.
“She f*cked bloodsuckers for her own pleasure and she incapacitated them for the job.”

Gabriel lives in a vampire eat vampire world and he’s not at the top just because of his attractive face. He puts on a ruthless façade to eradicate all competition and threats.

When Calista is forced to face Gabriel, things don’t go exactly as planned. And they both find out that there’s more than meets the eye about one another.

I liked Chris’ take on the vampire world. These creatures are soulless and unemotional and the power to combat them is very original.

I also liked Gabriel and Calista’s characters. They were very good at deception and manipulation with explosive chemistry and a good back and forth.
“He told me you wouldn’t harm me,” she said in her meekest tone, acting scared and vulnerable. “You gave your word.”
“I said I wouldn’t lay a finger on you.”
He hovered his massive hand over her belly. “I never said I wouldn’t lay a finger in you.”

I knew it was a short but I would have liked a few more pages at the end, but that’s probably my romantic side speaking. And there was a sex scene that had me squirming in an unpleasant way.

I’ll be exploring more of Chris’ very interesting and imaginative worlds of erotic fantasy and romance.

What do you get when you bring a Master Vampire together with a Gelder? I will tell you, one hot paranormal romantic read!
Calista , a Gelder her job is to lure the vampires in , have them believe she is helpless and then use their own sexual desire against them leaving them unable to approach and touch any human with malicious intent; soif they can not feed then well, you get the idea. Unfortunately for her the last vampire she gelds runs to master Gabriel and tells him and now Gabriel wants to see her, left withno choice she can only hope she survives!

Gabriel has been waiting centuries to find another Gelder, he has a job for her; the last thing he expects is for the two of them to have a mutual attraction, hell it floors Calista , especially when Gabriel gives her the best orgasim of her life!
A uncommon connection is formed a mutual enemy dealt with and lots of heat between Calista and Gabriel along the way!

Great short read, ones of those stories you are sorry to we come to the end!

Calista is a gelder who's main purpose is to put every vampire out of commission. Gabriel is a Master Vampire who is hot and makes Calista not want to do her job. From the moment that these two met, there has been a fire growing between them. Gabriel convinces Calista to help him defeat another Master vampire for control of the city. Chris Lange has written a very hot and sexy story. Calista is a spunky and hot lady who knows how to work her assets. Gabriel is sexy, bold, handsome, and is very attracted to Calista. As their relationship grows, we learn more about Gabriel's background. I loved this story. The only fault I found with it was that it was too short. I wanted more of this couple and more of their love making. If you love hot, sexy vampires, you are going to love this book.

I really enjoyed this short story about Calista and Gabriel. I totally got a kick outta Calista, she's pretty independent and headstrong. Finding out what a gelder is and how it fits into the world was really fascinating. It's definitely a new concept, specially how it works, and it's not just a female gift. I thought Gabriel was awesome, he really is a alpha with a big heart. Learning about his background and how he became a vampire broke my heart. I cheered this couple on the entire story, they most definitely belong together, and nothings gonna get in the way of that. As for Spade, I thought he was a tool, and was disgusted by him. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who loves vampires, romance+sex, some action and a spin on vampires.

I'd like to thank Chris Lange for giving me a copy of this ebook! :)

This book was a wonderful read. I really enjoyed the character of Calista, the heroine. She was a strong character who showed a lot of depth. I also enjoyed Gabriel. He is the epitome of the strong, silent Vampire, but with a hint of a softer side. The dichotomy makes for a very captivating book.

I enjoyed the length of this book, very quick read that I enjoyed on a rainy afternoon. The pace seems a little rushed in a few places, but it is a short.

All in All, wonderful work Ms. Lange. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work!

I had the pleasure of reading a copy of Gabriel that was sent to me by Ms Lange. The story started of honking me in right away. Calista is a Gelder that puts vampires down. She has a great personality and is kick ass. Gabriel is loveable and is a great match for Calista. Those two are doomed but in the end it all works out. The characters were believable and entertaining. The plot line was engaging as we'll as believable. This was my first book read by this author and can't wait to read more!

A great story. I loved the new vampire world the author introduced here. I hope there is more to come and we find out more about the gelders and vampires.

I loved the way the heroine and hero fell for each other but was leery of each other. The fact that they didn't trust each other immediately made the story that much more believable. These two, who should be natural enemies fall in love, like a modern day Romeo and Juliet. I loved it!

Wow this way too short and extremely sexy. Master Gabriel is sexy and dominant. I found this to be a very good story and somewhat unique take on vampires. I felt the dialog was a little disjointed at times making it hard to know who said what. Im hoping that this novella will tirn into a series.

It's not often that a novella of around eighteen thousand words can fit in everything from character introduction, plot, resolution and leave the reader with a sense of satisfaction. Gabriel did, or at least it was pretty damn close. Since I have never read a plot with character traits like this, this story felt fresh, and I enjoyed every second. As mentioned in the blurb, Calista is a gelder.

geld verb \ˈgeld\

: to remove the testicles of (a male animal and especially a horse or bull).
transitive verb
1: castrate

Calista's form of gelding isn't the Lorena Bobbitt kind. Hers is an ancient power, and only a chosen few can wield it, but there are consequences. If she came across as a bit emotionless, only focused on her mission and her pleasure, that was a byproduct of using her gift as often as she did. There was very little back story on her, but it didn't hinder me from seeing her as someone who was lonely and easily frustrated, but she developed nicely withing the short time. Gabriel started off as an enigma, but as the story developed, there was more to him than met the eye. Of the two protagonists, he was the most well developed with an intriguing history that wasn't divulged until the end. I won't spoil it by saying more.

The sex scenes were hot (note: oral, anal), and the author hit the mark in not making this short story all about sex. My only issue was the flip-flopping between British English and American English.

Note: You can read the prequel to Gabriel titled BEFORE HIM for free. You can get it from Totally Bound. It contains the same characters as Gabriel and has a length of 4430 words. At the time of posting this review, I had not read the prequel.

I've read one other free, super short story by this author, TRITON, which I liked a lot. I would read more of her books.

Short with a whole lotta naughty my kind of book. Gabriel let's just say that boy should come visit me one night, "you smell delicious," he announced for the company to hear. His mouth brushed against her neck, softly going up to whisper in her ear, "And horny." Right off I loved the attitude but I guess the best word to describe what Calista have would be chemistry:
"I need to go home. Damn, this vampire business can prove exhausting. You know, sometimes I wonder what's in it for me."
He was right behind her as she faced the closed door to grab the handle. His hands fell on her shoulders, his face not quite touching her cheek, his huge, heavy body pressed against her back. "I'll eff you."
Personally I think that's a great incentive. He's not shy about his body either, "I think we'd better cool off," she said. "Now isn't the time." Listening to her reasonable words, he shifted in the seat, placing one of his hands down his groin to stifle his erection." This was like really short, and I was surprised by how much content and story could be put in sixty-one pages. I liked reading this book I just don't think I could handle another one by Chris if it's this short, I like my books long.

Why so short? Whyyyyy?!

Ok..first of all. This book was kindly provided by the author. But that doesn't make this review less honest.

This one was already in my *to be read list so I happily started it. I couldn't stop reading. It was about vampires, I love vamps, and the story got hold of me so I simply couldn't put it down. Calista is a gelder (first time I've heard of one) and Gabriel is a Master Vampire. Her enemy. At first. I don't like to give much away. I'll just say, yes, it was good!

But then, it ended! So soon! I want more of this two. They were hot and sweet and definitely interesting.

Great and short. I will definitely check out other books by this author.
