Viola Stanford Lee couldn’t believe the news that her obsessive, horrible husband—one she never wanted—had died while drunk and cheating at a game of poker. She’d no longer have to live under that man’s rule, nor any other man’s if she could help it. She never counted on becoming a mother.
Dr. Rogan McKenny was about to fulfill his dream of preaching to a new, small, mountain pioneer town on weekends and doctoring them during the week. Can Rogan convince Viola to go with him in a covered wagon to a new place, as his wife, and help her raise the baby she’s expecting?

Growing up, Kaitlene Dee loved westerns in the form of TV shows, but when she read her first historical western, she was hooked. She spends her time daydreaming about western romances and the spunky heroines who insist on having their own stories written, and the swoony cowboys who love them. She often rescues stray dogs and can’t wait to give a forever home to her next dog or two…or five. Kaitlene lives on the west coast and enjoys traveling, research, writing, and hanging out with reader friends in her Facebook readers group or with her newsletter readers. She’s an avid coffee drinker—and don’t even think about getting between her and a bear claw pastry.

A very nice book to read. This was written by Kaitlene Dee and is written very well. There is a sense of mystery in this book that makes it a very nice book. I did enjoy reading it.
What a fantastic addition to this series and it complements Emma's story so well. We met Emma, Buck and Rogan in Emma's story. Viola and Emma are sisters. Emma, Buck and Rogan are going to rescue Viola from a bad marriage arranged by the girls father in his grief at losing his wife. He set out to find Viola and rescue her in Emma's story. But fate stepped in when he fell ill and passed. Emma, Buck and Rogan take up his cause and travel to save Viola from her desperate situation. Rogan is called to marry Viola and help her escape her situation, but she is hesitant. Then when she discovers she is with child, she and Buck decide to marry. The marriage is conducted, they smuggle Viola out of town and the adventure begins! It is not without a few heart stopping moments. I loved this book! Highly recommend reading Emma's story and following up with Viola. You will love them both!
5 stars Another great story by this author. This is a part of a series but you don’t have to read the other to understand. But if you can get a hold of her sister’s story Emma you can get some of the back story on the characters and get to know them more. But if not you’ll still not get lost. This is a Christian book, and the two main characters turn to their Faith during their trials during this story. One realizes during her hardest times that’s when God is with her the most. Stepping out on unsure ground but knowing it all would be ok. The story is an encouragement to the reader as they read about these characters they grow to love. Great story one you’ll not regret taking time to read.
Things are not always what they seem. Viola was in trouble and wrote to her father for help. Unfortunately, he passed on the way but her sister Emma and her husband Buck along with Rogan arrived to help. She was so terrified of her husband that she shook while they were present. His death left her free to make her own choices, but would she make the correct one? Traveling with them to their new home, her past managed to catch up to her. How would she manage? Who are the bad guys? Enjoyed seeing her accept God and learn to live according to His word. Not preachy, lots of adventure and love make this an enjoyable read.
Received an ARC and this is my honest unsolicited review.
This author continues to delight, inspire and encourage with each of her works! And the story of Viola is no exception. Despite ever present danger, God’s hand of protection prevailed, fulfilling His promise to give her a future and a hope, revealing Himself to her time and again, drawing her to His heart of unconditional love. Every reader will have a smile on his or her face as the last page is read, desiring to have that same assurance of an eternity with Him. Uplifting and soul stirring read!
Viola and Rogan did not have a happy start. There was a lot of drama, not of her own making, surrounding her. She didn't trust Rogan and she didn't trust God. Actually, she was mad at God. :) But you can't be mad at someone you don't believe in, right?
As her faith grows, she learns to trust Rogan, too. It was a sweet romance around the campfire for them.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
Great characters that instantly drew me into the story. The sweet romance was a slow build with the sharing of the heart. Love, mercy, and the grace of God is woven through the plot along with danger that is bigger than the characters can face alone. A couple of aha moments that surprise the reader and leaves you thinking on it. Nicely written story that only has me wanting more! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed the book! Viola is married to an abusive man. Shortly after he dies, she discovers she is expecting a baby. Rogan came to the small town with his cousin and Viola’s sister. He offers to marry her and help her leave. There were several happenings as they make their way to San Diego county. This is a clean wholesome book where the characters rely on their Christian faith. I suggest reading Emma (book 37 in this series) before reading this book. I recommend reading this book!
I loved this story about Viola. She is trapped in a horrible marriage with a husband who only wants her around as a servant. She only has one friend. Her husband Emma and her husband Buck come to take her away from Lindy Valley. As Emma and her Pa were on their way to rescue her, but their Pa died on the way. Can they get Viola out of Lindy Valley? Who can they trust? Come along with this wonderful book that will keep you glued to the page all the way to the end.
Viola didn't want to be married to a drunk and wasn't too sad when he died. However, with danger lurking, Viola has to decide if she can trust the plan Dr. McKenny devised to keep her safe. She doesn't know anything about him and is afraid to make a terrible mistake. Come along on this covered-wagon adventure as they learn about each other and what it takes to make a joyful life.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Christian fiction set in the Old West!
Viola is an interesting and exciting adventure story. I loved reading how Rogan and Viola met and came together. I loved how they invited the Lord into their lives. The danger and hardships made the story more intriguing. I loved catching up with some of the Prairie Roses characters.
Be still my heart! Even though it didn't start out sweet, it turned out to be the sweetest love story! I already adored Buck, Rogan, and Emma from the previous story, but Viola's story is the best!
I so enjoyed reading this story of such adventures, dangerous men, faith filled romance, and incredible journey to a better life. Great story and series!!
This was a great book and what a fantastic author. I highly recommend this book and author. I can’t wait to read the next book by this wonderful author.
This book tries to teach that GOD has a plan. One we do not see. viola had a bad marraage but when her husband was killed she was in danger. She needed a new belief and a way to safety.
