Would You Rather

Rate this book
Would you rather fake date someone that drives you crazy or lose your dream job?

Madeline
My whole life is meticulously planned out in the pages of my notebook. But I couldn’t have planned to be on the front page of a magazine with Lucas Silva, a well-know model, holding me in his arms.

Now I have to decide whether to sacrifice my one chance at landing my dream job or take my chances fooling the press as Lucas' supposed girlfriend.

The rules are simple. No dating other people, no kissing and no falling in love. But the more time I spend with him, the more the rules blur until I can’t remember why I’m trying so hard not to give in.

Lucas
I will do whatever it takes to make sure my family are taken care of, even if that includes pretending to be in a relationship with a girl that drives me crazy. Madeline is infuriating, maddening and everything I shouldn’t want. Yet in the midst of the fake dates, and the stolen moments, I start to see the side she doesn’t show anyone else, and I begin to think that maybe, just maybe she’s everything I want.

i liked this book, but i also have to acknowledge that there were some parts that gave me the ick.

this book started out quick. the main characters met within the first 20 pages and were instantly attracted to each other physically. that’s fine. their whole fake relationship dilemma made sense and was smart career-wise for both of them, so i don’t fault them for that.

but i think part of the reason why i’m so conflicted and got the ick early on was because of how jealous and insecure lucas was, even before the whole fake dating situationship he got into with madeline.

HOWEVER! when lucas and madeline officially got together, everything was fine. they worked on themselves, helped heal each other. once they acknowledged their actual feelings, their communication was so mature and genuine. and lucas treated her like a queen (he literally calls her “princesa”!)

i enjoyed all the appearances of the couples from the previous books. rosalie and grayson were as cute as ever. and leila and aiden were hilariously hot like always. also, i’m even more curious as to who gabi ends up with!! gabi confiding her woes in aiden instead of madeline was interesting… like who is the guy!?!

special thanks to Stephanie Alves (author) for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Ohmygod I loved this! The passion and tension in this😮‍💨👏🏼
This was actually the first book I've read from the campus games series and I loved this book from start to finish🫶🏼 I also recently bought book 1&2 and I can't wait to dive into those soon🥹

It was amazing how they went from disliking each other to fake dating to falling head over heels for each other. It was so cute to read about, I can't stop thinking about them🥰 I really liked both characters from the start. Lucas is an amazing person and boyfriend even though the jealousy was a bit much sometimes but in the end he really cared for Madeline and he also very much showed that! His talking in Portuguese to Madeline melted my heart🥹 His nicknames for her were also sooo cute I just couldn't get enough of them!! The way he cared for his family 🩷 I also loved the way Madeline made him focus on himself and I also loved the way Lucas made Madeline feel empowered and important, always supporting her every move.

The side characters were all so fun and distinctive from each other which I find sooo important! Their friendship group is truly amazing and I really want to read never have I ever & spin the bottle now because both relationships seemed SO CUTE😍
James was also such a great character! Hope we'll see more of him in Gabi's book somehow🤭

I truly don't have a bad thing to say about this! It was fast paced and well written! Stephanie has a lovely writing style that's easy to read. A lot of tension between the MC's and overall it's a very cute romance story with a bit of spice🩷 I'd definitely recommend!!

Thank you so much Stephanie for providing me an ARC copy of this book! My review is solely based on my own honest opinion.

oh i ate this up!! this was EVERYTHING to me. all the best tropes with slow burn tension that had me squealing like a lunatic.
madi is the sweetest angel who is just trying do hard not to get hurt, not let anyone down and still live her dream. her journey of growth in confidence in herself and her relationships and determination in her career was lovely. and i love my boyfriend, i really do but LUCAS SILVA?!? that man is a perfect specimen - he is sweet, attentive, hard working, family oriented, respectful and such a damn filthy mouth. now put them together?! madi and lucas have that fiery chemistry that just lights up the page whenever they're together and the most fun 'why does it have to be this one??' set up for fake dating with a boy who falls first and so very hard and the most headstrong girl who doesn't want to fall in love.
the friendship group was so fun (as always) rosiegrayson and leilaaiden continue to light up my day and my god do i love men that are down FERAL for their women like stephanie alves men. the spice in typical stephanie alves fashion was IMMACULATE. especially with the slowburn that payoff was so hot.
now gimme gabi!!!! it's giving second chance or friends to strangers to lovers or something.... just let my girl not be the only single one in a group of couples

thank you stephanie alves for sending out an arc in exchange for an honest review!

Stephanie Alves's novel Would You Rather is a slow-burning love story that centers on model Lucas Silva and aspiring actress Madeline Davis.

I knew this was going to be good after finishing Spin The Bottle and giving it a five-star review. Now don’t get me wrong  that while I didn't give this book a five-star rating, the writing, characters, and tropes were all excellent.

It was everything that Lucas and Maddy could go from not liking each other to falling deeply in love. I mean, Lucas actually wrote Maddy a love letter.

Also, I knew this book was amazing because, for once, I didn't feel the need for a third-act breakup. Generally, I think that a breakup is necessary for the characters in the stories I read, but in this case, everything was going so well.

Honestly, even though I've only read three of Stephanie's writings thus far, I might end up reading them all at this point.

*Thank you to the author, Stephanie Alves, for providing me with this e-arc in exchanger for an honest review.*

2 stars for Lucas’ dirty talk

Improvements are being made (within the likability of the characters) but there are so many issues.

1. They literally only had like max 6-7 interactions before deciding that they love each other (yet they’ve dating for MONTHS)

2. Plot holes; what happened to Connor? Like was he not her crush? What happened to Lucas being a famous model? Should they not have interactions and problems with the media? Why aren’t we character focused? Maddie does not want to study law yet it’s not talked about at all? Why isn’t she actively auditioning and if she is why isn’t it in the freaking book? Have we even scratched the surface of Maddies background??Sincere note to the author if you introduce a problem you need to solve it and not make it disappear off the face of the earth. You can’t solve everything in the last 60 pages.

3. They don’t know ANYTHING about each other. She has this whole past with SA and it’s hinted at multiple times but no efforts to actually explaining and them talking about what it means to her until we’re past page 300. A waste so much room for development.

4. The pacing. Oh my god. No words. Reading these books feel like they meet (day 1) they talk 3 times (day 2-5) and they fall in love (day 6). It’s instalove but it’s not trying to be instalove, like the plot is trying so hard to be there.

5. Lucas would be a NIGHTMARE for someone with commitment issues (not unlike maddie tbh). They’ve been dating for what two weeks? He takes her to meet his family and talks about having kids. Like pls lets do some character building first and let the relationship develop.

ARC review !

“𝓣𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝓶𝓮 𝔀𝓱𝓪𝓽 𝓲 𝓭𝓲𝓭 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓲'𝓵𝓵 𝓫𝓮𝓰 𝓸𝓷 𝓶𝔂 𝓴𝓷𝓮𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓫𝓮𝓰 𝓯𝓸𝓻 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓯𝓸𝓻𝓰𝓲𝓿𝓮𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓫𝓾𝓽 𝓲’𝓶 𝓷𝓸𝓽 𝔀𝓪𝓵𝓴𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓮 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝓪 𝓯𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽”

Madeline is such a great character. I loved her development throughout the story. I also thought she had a really good personality, and her character was actually so funny. She was a Black girl and the author was not but despite that I thought that she did a great job writing and not stereotyping her in any type of way and it's clear she did her research to make sure there were no microaggressions and I say that as a black girl myself. I loved her acting dreams, and the way her acting career was portrayed felt realistic

Lucas is sooo incredible. I mean, I loved how he treated Madeline like a princess, and I loved the inclusions of him speaking Portuguese to Madeline. I thought that was so cute, especially when he called her the cheesy nicknames. Ugh, that was so good. I loved how family was everything to him, and he always looked out for them ‘

I loved seeing the tension during the story. It was well paced without getting boring and I also loved how we got such good side characters, but we were still able to focus on Madeline and lucas.

Speaking of side characters, I loved that the characters from her past books in the series were included. I thought that was a nice touch to the storyline. I also loved James; he was such a good character. He was really fun and contrasted with Lucas so well, and he was just so funny.

🌶️ 4.5/5 “𝓙𝓾𝓼𝓽 𝓫𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓮, 𝓹𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓬𝓮𝓼𝓪” 𝓲 𝔀𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓹𝓮𝓻 𝓪𝓰𝓪𝓲𝓷𝓼𝓽 𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓵𝓲𝓹𝓼 “𝓵𝓮𝓽 𝓶𝓮 𝓲𝓷 𝓫𝓪𝓫𝔂 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓵 𝓼𝓸 𝓰𝓸𝓸𝓭”

All in all, this book is about my new roman Empire. It was so so so good. I thought nothing could top love me or hate me by stephaine alves. Well, I was wrong because this was amazing.

“I’m done trying to convince myself that every part of me doesn’t call out for you”🫠

Thank you to the author for the ARC!! I really enjoyed reading this book and getting to know Madeline and Lucas 🫶🏻! The story was fun and easy to read, and I have a soft spot for the cover (pink covers are my weakness)

I love Madeline, her style, her personality and her determination to achieve her dream! Lucas is so sweet, respectful and caring, and I LOVED reading his pov because he was so obsessed with Madeline from the beginning🤭. The tension between them was killing me but it was WORTH IT. It was so cute to see their relationship evolve from a fake one when they dislike each other to a genuine love. They’re perfect for each other, and their relationship has helped them to overcome their personal issues, which makes my heart melt🥲. Also, I have to admit that I died every time Lucas spoke Portuguese (where can you find a man who calls you princesa? asking for a friend). And I can’t forget to mention the side characters, because they’re so funny (especially James and Gabi) and the whole friend group is so precious!💞💞

"she’s the most beautiful girl in the room. she’s beautiful girl in every room, for the matter. it’s impossible to look away"

Stephanie you did it again. I absolutely fell in love with Lucas and Madeline and i KNEW i would as well.

This book had everything and the perfect amount of romance , spice , connection and plot. Everything was so incredible and i honestly cannot say one bad thing about this book.

Madeline. My girl. She is honestly so strong. For what she went through and to still be able to let someone in ?! She honestly deserves the absolute world and i’m so glad Lucas can do that for her. She is so relatable and beautiful. She cares so much for everyone and she works hard for what she wants and never gives up. Madeline has gone through so much and still ends up being one of the most talented and sweetest girl out.

Lucas mf Silva. Oh. My. God. That man is everything. So so perfect. He’s seriously one of the most sweetest and special man out. He cares so much for his family and will do absolutely everything and anything to help them. He’s so patient with Madeline and sweet. He never ever did anything bad and is so precious.

I loved every minute of Lucas and Madeline. From how they met and got together was everything 🤭😫

Aside from romance i loved each of their character development especially Madeline’s.
How she learnt overtime that it’s okay to let people in and it’s okay to be loved (the right way)

I could go on and on about this book but i’ll stop here. If you haven’t picked up this series yet YOU NEED TO. Each book is freaking amazing and i cannot wait to read more by Stephanie Alves.

Cute

The group banter is starting to really click. Book 3 is on Madeline and Lucas. Their fake dating starts as a OR stunt to help with Lucas's career and get Madi into her dream acting career. This love hate relationship of course blooms and some dark secrets come out... I can't wait for the next book.

This just might be joint as my fave along with spin the bottle. Madelinelucas I love you!!!

The fake dating and dislike to love in this book hit so good and the tension and jealousy scenes,, I was eating it up. I've always loved madi's character and im so happy to finally have her book and I loved getting to know Lucas more since we first met him in book 2. I loved watching everything unravel with these 2 and how the feelings started to come out and they just suit so well and this book had me smiling so big like I was rooting for them so bad.

This friendship group is so precious and I love them so much, this series is the perfect quick easy read and it's just fun with good plots, they're also well written and face paced. Now I just need Gabis book asap cos she's always intrigued me the most

“How do I know this is real?” “Baby it stopped being fake to me a long time ago”

this book was so cute i couldn’t stop giggling. lucas is so loving to everyone around him and he knows how to make a girl blush…

tropes:
- fake dating
- one bed/nightmare trope 🤭
- enemies (mostly) to lovers
- such good banter
- both have strong friend groups/found family
- slow burn
- poc main characters/representation

i absolutely adored all the tropes used in this book, stephanie did it rightttttt! they truly hated each other (or did they…) and the banter was sooo good! i need to read the other books in this series ASAP

spice level: 7.5/10 (keep in mind this is a slow burn)

ps. the idea of a man calling me princess in portuguese sounds way too tempting….

One thing about me? I am a FAN of Stephanie Alves books. If for some reason anyone is reading this, please consider reading this series. It is SO underrated, and I cant wait for the next one to come out (IN LITERALLY LESS THAN AN HOUR YIPPEE!!!)

I wish the book was called 20 questions instead of Would You Rather. I feel like it fits more. REGARDLESS. Another absolute BANGER.

Lucas makes me wanna get a Portuguese boyfriend. He is so kind. And he is so down astronomical for Madeline. He kinda reminds me of Nathan Donelson from The Cheat Sheet (not really but also lowkey).

Anyway, so good, please read. Cant wait for Truth or Dare

SPOILER ALERT ISH

okay so I got the the chance to read this book before the release date because I was in the arc review team and I absolutely love it

Now this book is a slow burn romance book but I never expected I would like slow burn considering most slow born have no sparks. This book had so much angst and tension and cameo of many characters I’m so excited to read it . I really enjoyed the little part of James and Craig together and the hints we got for Gabi’s book

The only reason I didn’t read this book in a day is because I had work from 7:30 to 8pm lmao anyways I really loved this dislike to lovers with a lot of tension and against between the characters . Whenever he called her princess a was adorable ! I also enjoyed their character development and the fact there wasn’t any 3rd act break up or miscommunication!! I can’t wait to see more of them and hopefully a big epilogue for all the girls and their partner

This was such a fun book!!!

I loved Madeline’s character. I loved seeing her throughout this become more confident and go after the things she is wanting in her life. I love the friendship group within this I think it’s so cute and I love the dynamic.

Lucas is such a cute character. You can see how deeply he cares for madi and I loved seeing him develop his feelings for her as well as seeing how he expresses those feelings to her. James and Lucas’s friendship was also so funny and lovely.

I loved the banter and humour between Madeline and Lucas. That was one of the best parts of this book for me. Their constant back and forth banter was absolutely amazing and I loved every bit of it.

I also appreciate and really like how the author subtly included and talked about serious topics throughout this book. I like the way she did it as well and I feel like it was accurately depicted within the characters as well.

I love this book. It’s such a fun time with amazing characters. Would definitely recommend.

i liked the book and absolutely loved that they both genuinely hated each other in the beginning, enemies to lovers that have to fake date is the best trope combo. lucas is a cutie pie that was obsessed with madeline from the start and madeline was the grumpy badass girl that wanted nothing to do with him.

it was a cute read but i got bored at the end and their love also was kinda cringe, like are you really that obsessed with each other? couldn’t be me lol

i’m still very interested in gabi’s story tho!!! so i’ll def read that one just to finish this series :)))

I was given the wonderful opportunity to be an ARC reader for this book and oh my goodness I would've devoured this book in one sitting if it wasn't for life. This is my favorite book out of the whole series. Madeline and Lucas own my heart. I love slow-burn and hate-to-love romance books and this was perfect! It's a slow burn but they have chemistry from the very beginning. They both just deny it. Especially Madeline. She is so guarded from past trauma (that I won't spoil) and my heart breaks for her. She eventually lets down her walls when she realizes she doesn't want to fight what she feels between her and Lucas anymore.

When Lucas talks to her in Portuguese >>>> That is one of my all-time favorite things. Especially when he tells her something and he tells her it has a completely different meaning from what it is. The evolution of the nickname "Princesa" is 🤌🏼 (chef kiss) I love how Madeline was able to help Lucas realize that he needs to take care of himself and have a career that makes him happy.

These characters both grow so much throughout this story and I wish that their story could never end. This book releases on April 5th and I highly, highly recommend reading it the moment it comes out!

I don’t have anything crazy to say about this book, it was okay! It didn’t have me constantly trying to pick it back up to continue where I left off, but I did know wanted to finish it. It definitely took me longer to finish it because it wasn’t crazy attention grabbing, but it was a quick and easy read. The characters were relatable at some points which I appreciated, but again, nothing crazy. Overall, it was decent.

Was a cute book and defo made me giggle. When he switches languages to say smth cute but tells her he called her annoying (swoon 😩🫠🙂‍↕️). The other couples that appeared in the book lowkey made me cringe cz like that’s so weird to talk about out loud and hella uncomfortable go get a room respectfully. But yeah maybe like 3.75 ⭐️:)

ARC Early Access Review

I genuinely think this is Stephanie's best book yet. Madi is my favorite leading lady so far, and OMG Lucas is such a dream. I am a sucker for a hate to love - fake dating romance, and this one was so so good! This is a slow burn, and the burn was definitely burning 🔥🫢 There was so much chemistry between these two characters and I was swooning over everything Lucas said to Madi. It's just so so so good!!! Definitely my new favorite. 4.75⭐️
