I had a feeling about Fated Unkindness and Blake Gallows, a feeling that this book will be something special. I wasn't wrong ✨
Fated Unkindness, Book 1 in The Moon Raven trilogy has it all - beautiful world-building, great magic system, faes, shifters, hidden identities, found family, a villain you love to hate, an FMC who knows her worth, an MMC who finds his worth and finds himself as the plot progresses, excellent side characters. I mean, could you ask for more? 🤍
Fated Unkindness offers multiple POVs, and it adds so much to the story - we actually get to see how a villain thinks and feels (we get little glimpses of grey), we see how our main characters feel, what they want and need, and we see the worth and importance of side characters.
Another thing to enjoy? The MMC actually shares his secrets 😁 Yes, no miscommunication trope there, and I'm so happy about it. The main characters talk, share, and plan together, and it works 🤍
Fated Unkindness will grab and won't let go; you will be immersed in the story, captivated by all the characters, you will laugh, you will cry, you will leave your heart on those pages. And after you've finished reading, you will think about The Moon Raven trilogy all the time, and you will count the days until book 2, Eclipse of Fate is out so can come back to Dax, Raelle and their friends, family and enemies as well 🤍🤍

HOLY FREAKING CRAP! 🤯

My friend received an ARC for this book and couldn’t stop talking about it. So I obviously I had to get it when it came out on KU.

AND LET ME TELL YOUUUUUU……

This debut novel was just absolutely delicious to inhale. The magic system was new and refreshing, the way the characters interact with each other (I’m a sucker for great banter). I just cannot keep thinking about what’s going to happen in future books. And I 1000% need to have book two in my hands pronto.

5/5 will recommend this book to everyone, seriously idk why you’re still reading this, go read this book.

It's been a long time since I felt like I really had to be paying attention to every paragraph to learn about the characters or I may miss something. This debut novel from Blake Gallows is setting her up for a massive following if she continues to write like this because I'm obsessed, I'm literally reading it again. The book is set up to only give you just enough information as needed, and by that I mean the reader (you) learn with the characters instead of knowing as something happens and I LOVE IT. My second read-through is putting all the information I learned on the first read-through to work and it's like reading a new book almost.

There is fae, war, fated mates, humor, touch her and die, amazing best friends, badassery from both all the characters, a love-to-hate villain, and most importantly... a surprise at the end!! I can't spoil this, but please give Fated Unkindness a shot because you won't regret it. Can I get you to read just based on one quote? Let's see.

🐦‍⬛"This cute little mate..." I put emphasis on the word. "Will fucking rip your godsdamned hand off if it comes in contact with what is mine one more time." 👀

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
🌶️🌶️

More favorite quotes because I need to share them!!

🐦‍⬛"You are the flame that drew me home and burned away the darkness that I was shrouded in."

🐦‍⬛"Now shift back into your wolf, and let's get back to the girls. I think I've seen enough of your saggy man meat."

🐦‍⬛"Love, if you bite that lip any harder, you may just bite if off, and I for one would be very sad to lose that pouty bottom lip of yours because I rather like biting it myself"

🐦‍⬛""You are as beautiful as you are vicious, and what he has done to you changes nothing of that. A warrior wears their scars as a testament to their victories. You are a warrior, {name redacted for spoilers}"

🐦‍⬛"You put your hands on her again, I'll cut them from your body, one fucking finger at a time. Do you understand me?"

🐦‍⬛"You may think you are more powerful than me, but let me remind you... I chose not to be in your seat. I choose every day not to take your place. Put your fucking hands on me again, you won't stroke yourself again for the rest of your life because I will take them. Do you understand me?"

Do you love a good fantasy that has you staying up all night just needing to know what happens next? What about a badass female main character who doesn’t need a man to save her? Or a villain you can looooove hating? What about a badass male main character with real development and great backstory? Then read Fated Unkindness. I was blessed to read this book before its’ release and I can’t wait to own a copy of my own! Blake had created a world that I wish I was living in and it gets 5⭐️ from me, easily!

4.5 ⭐️ and 2 🌶️

I started this book one afternoon and read through the night. This debut novel was seriously so dang good! 🙌 I couldn’t even put it down to function in the real world! Blake Gallows is a Multi-POV queen and I do not understand why more books can’t be written this way. It’s such an amazing method to utilize when helping us get to know the different characters and their personalities/intentions.

Tropes:
🖤 Enemies/Strangers to Lovers
🔥 Slow Burn
♥️ Fated Mates
⚔️ Touch Her and Die
😤 Possessive/Grumpy MMC
😱 Twists, Turns and Betrayal
🌖 Magic and Political Intrigue
🐦‍⬛ Fae and Wolf Shifters
🥵 Shadow Daddy
👑 Multi-POV

Raelle is a strong lead in this story and I love her ATTITUDE. She’s snarky, powerful and empathetic. Dax is the sexy, shadow wielding, raven shifting, broody, dude damsel in distress 😉 I said what I said. They’re perfect together and their banter is obnoxiously cute. Trent is Dax’s brother and he is probably one of my favorite characters.

I LOVE nearly all of the characters! They’re written so well. I do hate Cano, though. Everything he does and says makes me cringe. 😬 He is just freaking terrible, however, I have a soft spot for villain redemption stories, so I’m kind of hoping it heads in that direction.

I highly recommend taking your time when you read this. The world building isn’t overwhelming and flows well, but so many hints are there if you really pay attention. 👀

10/10 recommend reading this book as the sequel, Eclipse of Fate is where it’s at! 👍

I had the absolute honor to be able to read Blake’s debut novel before its release and she absolutely rocked it!!

The world building is absolutely phenomenal! It’s so easy to picture everything that’s described. This book came to life and immersed me into a world full of magic and shifting and I never wanted to leave!

The FMC is such a badass. She’s easily lovable and watching her story unfold was insane in the best way possible!

The MMC is drool worthy. We must protect him at all costs! Redeemable at its finest. I couldn’t help but love him from the get go.

“You put your hands on her again, I’ll cut them from your body, one f$ucking finger at a time. Do you understand me?” 🖤🥵

Every single character has their own personality and they are so easy to love.

And the villain? Ohhhh the villain is SO easy to hate.

There are multiple POVs and it’s so easy to keep track of who’s who because each character is so different.

Once I started reading I could not put it down. I highly recommend!! Hands down one of the best debut fantasy romance novels I’ve read!! It officially lives rent free in my mind and I cannot wait to read more work from Blake!! I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy!

Edited to add:
I just finished this reread in preparation for book 3, and my god, it just hits different on a reread. Still obsessed and still in love with Dax 😍

Ughh, I devoured this book. It really gave me Throne of Glass meets One Dark Window and I was so here for it.

There’s shifters, fae, & dragons, what more could you ask for? If you said found family, betrayal, touch her & die, and fated mates… it has that too!

Raelle, Kait & Trent are on a mission to cure a curse, and find Trent’s missing little sister. During this mission, Raelle loses her memory and has to become reacquainted with her friends, what she set out to do, and who she set out to save.

The writing was just seamless and made for an easy, thrilling read.

The last 40ish pages really had my heart rate up, and it won’t slow down until I read book two 😅

3.45/5

Decently easy fantasy to wrap your head around.
A lot going on so you never really get bored of things happening.
The repeated FMC and MMC scenes after their mate event happens is just all kissing and smut type over and over again, it got to repetitive.
The found family is done well.
The final battle event was anticlimactic.
The little sister is annoying and never follows the instructions which literally get her killed.

Good basis of the trilogy, but I’m not sure if I’ll continue on.

How do I even begin this review, I am still shocked to the core and craving to know more🥰😳. Blake Gallows has created such an amazing, immersive story that has you on the edge of your seat right from the beginning. There were many questions I was asking myself from the start simply because it was not explained in detail however, I feel as though Gallows is setting this up to be delved into further in the series.

I love the character development and how there is multiple POV’s, I believe there is 5 in total. Although you may be thinking, damn that’s a lot, Gallows writes in a way that it is smooth and easy to follow. Cano, the main protagonist/villian is well thought out and Gallows does delve into his thoughts and reasoning behind actions, as much as many may not like him I am torn between understanding but also that he is definitely going about it the wrong way.

Fated Unkindness had me giggling and kicking my feet in so many areas, I think my absolute favourite would be: “I hear the gagging noise she lets out after her mocking. I have something she can gag on.” p. 199. Overall, Fated Unkindness gets a 6/5 ⭐️ for me, I loved every minute, even the massive cliffhanger it has me suspended from, I cannot wait for the next one to be released to jump straight back into this world.

Thank you Blake Gallows for this amazing story, looking forward to seeing where you take us.

Fated Unkindness by Blake Gallows is a total delight for fans of fantasy-romance. The book captivates from the beginning, featuring characters that are instantly endearing and relatable, along with others that are delightfully detestable. The story intertwines a mystery with an epic quest, merging magical powers, shape-shifters, and a collapsed kingdom. The characters, known for their sarcasm and resilience, find themselves in the throes of protecting their realm and their own lives from an adversary both familiar and mysterious. This book checks all the boxes for a captivating fantasy romance novel, promising to become a favorite among enthusiasts of enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, shifters, magical abilities, witty banter, strong female characters, dragons and the found family trope.

The book's multiple perspectives are engaging, as they often allowed me to understand the plot better than the characters themselves. The main couple, Dax and Raelle, are wonderful for each other. Dax, in particular, might just become my favorite book boyfriend; his sweet, attentive nature contrasts delightfully with his grumpy, bad-boy persona that seems to captivate all females. (Although Trent is a close second!) Raelle is portrayed as fierce, yet unyielding and compassionate. Her quotes rank among the finest in the fantasy genre, especially when she defends what belongs to her... (Discover the details by reading the book! It's truly excellent!)

The prophecies were unveiled just in the nick of time and were concisely integrated into the storyline. The ending was so intense it left me without words, heightening the anticipation for the sequel – it just can't arrive soon enough! Pick up "Fated Unkindness" for an adventure brimming with all your favorite fantasy elements and tropes! Its fast pace and lovable side characters will have you cheering for them and with them along their journey making this book by Blake Gallows an easy 5 star read for me.

outstanding!

This was an amazing read!

A beautiful, fast paced story filled with banter, tension, descriptive imagery, great characters, and a world all of its own. It has an intriguing storyline that burrows its way into your heart and stays there.

The characters are incredible and show growth and development in the story. There’s so many details that get woven into the story but does not overpower any of it. The world building was fantastic. Filled with descriptions that fueled my imagination with the most beautiful details.

I love how we get multiple POVs thru the story. It wasn’t confusing either. I knew right away who I was following when the view changed and each switch flowed easily. It was like getting to check in with each individual character and seeing what they were up to. It solidified my connection to them also.

The love interest was done so well!!! The fmc and the MMC are perfectly matched. They have a beautiful tension between them that can be felt off the pages. The flirtatious banter was adorable and funny, and I love how well matched they are. Their dynamic had such a natural and believable feeling to it. I found myself smiling like a fool at the book while reading it more than a few times.

Highly recommend!!

What a beautifully written story for a debut novel! It honestly did not feel like this was a debut, since the writing was quite sophisticated and flows smoothly (smooth flow is often the issue with new authors).

The world was quite immersive and it was really fun delving inside. The characters were developed slowly and steadily and I feel like I actually got to know them since there is multi-POV, which is often difficult to do, but it felt seamless here! There were also plenty of swoon moments.

I mean —

“You’ve made me the luckiest bastard this world has ever known, and I will do my damn best to deserve everything you’ve given me. I am your blade to wield, your soul to command. You, my Mate,” He leans down kissing me gently.

“My wife,” He deepens the kiss then whispers into my lips, “my Queen.”

Ahhhhhh 🤭 I can’t wait for the next one ❤️

Thanks for giving me a free copy!!!

✨ Fated Unkindness Review - Contains Quotes ✨

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️

"Do not dwell in the shadows when you have the light among you."

Fated Unkindness is Book One in The Moon Raven trilogy and let me just say, it does not disappoint! The world-building, plot, and magic-system are so intricate that you're immediately immersed in the story and don't want to leave.

I was instantly connected to these characters and appreciated the different POV's. I love them so much and thoroughly enjoyed watching them develop throughout the story. Except for the villain, Cano. While I wanted to skip his chapters, I couldn't and seethed with hatred reading every single word. 😅

The FMC, Raelle, is a fierce, powerful badass who don't need no man. (I mean, she does get the guy, but you know what I mean. 😂)

"I come here sometimes when I need to escape my head." I lift my book from my lap and wiggle it a little.

The MMC, Dax, is a delicious grumpy, possessive bad-boy that I'm still drooling over.

“You put your hands on her again, I’ll cut them from your body, one f*cking finger at a time. Do you understand me?”

"Only death can take me from you, and even then, I will wait until we are joined again. Our bond will ensure that. I will be yours, in life and in death, if you choose it."

"You are the flame that drew me home and burned away the darkness that I was shrouded in."

This book is a fast-paced roller-coaster full of twists and turns so be prepared to buckle up!

What to expect:
🌙 fated mates
🌙 touch her and die
🌙 slow burn
🌙 found family
🌙 multi-POV
🌙 magic
🌙 political intrigue
🌙 plot twists

First thank you so much to the author for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This is a gorgeous time-hopping Romantasy with:

🖤 Fated Mates
🖤 Hidden identity
🖤 Time-hopping
🖤 Memory loss trope

At first I struggled to get into this due to the time-hopping (which I find personally difficult to keep track of) but I'm so glad I persisted.

It's really easy to warm to the characters and root for the FMC and MMC to give in and be together. There is a very hateable villain and having multi-POV helped to understand everyone's wants and motivations!

I easily devoured this novel and I found the magic system incredibly interesting and can't wait for it to be explored further in the next book!

Wowwwwww. 4.5 stars from me for this beautifully written debut novel. I have yet to read an ARC/debut novel this well written. ESPECIALLY From a brand new baby author. This story was so captivating. I literally just finished, and my jaw is still hanging on the floor. The ending..... I CAN NOT wait until book 2!!!

You guys, this is an author to keep your eyes open for!! If she continues to write like this and grow, she will be the next best seller!! I'm so excited to see where she goes!

This book had me hooked from the very start. The story was well written and executed. It flowed extremely well. I never once got lost in the story. And I never felt that awkwardness that you sometimes feel when a new author tries to pull the story together. The characters were well written. It had multiple POV. The world building wasn't complicated or hard to visualize. It was all just beautifully written, especially as a brand new author. I am so excited to see where this author takes this story. I MUST know where Raelle and Dax end up.

Absolutely great job, Blake!

Fated Unkindness is Blakes debut novel and it's shamazing!
The story is slow burn, but has just enough spice, multi POV, full of action, plenty of humour, magic and ends with a cliffy.
I love the main characters. Raelle is badass, sassy and loyal. Dax is hot 🥵 broody, possessive and touch her and I’ll unalive you Fae shifter. The side characters are well developed and loveable especially Trent and Ambriel 🤗🤩
Now, Cano! What can I say about him? I hate him! Blake please end him. He is infuriating 🤬👿 I want to unalive him 🗡️💀
The world-building 🌏 is great and I can imagine myself living there kicking ass with the girls.
If you haven’t already get your paws 🐾on this amazing paranormal romance book 🖤

I can’t believe this is a debut novel it is so well written. I was blessed to be able to read this early and I am so grateful!

The world building with fae and magic is just wonderful. I love a grumpy sunshine trope and that’s just part of what this is. Our MMC Dax wants to pretend he isn’t as affected as he is by our FMC Raelle. Every look or touch or even just her presence he can feel it inside himself. And the same goes for Raelle. This is an action packed adventure full of angst and lust topped off with some magic and prophecies.

I am eagerly awaiting book two because I need more of the entire group but especially Trent, Kait, and Ambriel.

A 5 star read with level 3 spice

First of all. The writing. Blake Gallows has a way of drawing you into the story. The way she grabs your attention and holds it. I’m in love with this world. I want to become part of it.

Second of all. The characters. You’ll love some characters and hate some characters. I’m in love with Dax and Rae. Trent is so cute. The characters grab at your heart strings and it’s just ahhhhh.

Third of all. I feel like the book ends on a cliffhanger. But, it’s ok though. Cause it’ll have you guessing what’s going to happen next. Cause the twists and turns that was in the book may hint at something but it’s not what you think it is.

Blake Gallows has an incredible book on her hands.

“You’ve made me the luckiest bastard this world has ever known, and I will do my damn best to deserve everything you’ve given me. I am your blade to wield, your soul to command. ...” (I won’t add the rest, as to not spoil anything).

I am in love with this debut novel! There are multiple POV’s, but Blake wrote them in a uniquely seamless way that I was able to stay interested and intrigued.

There’s plot twists and turns, dragons, fae, vampires, fated mates and so much more. I particularly loved the beautiful character development and wonderful world building, rich with a deceptively dark history. Presently leaving the people of Aldramani in the clutches of evil.

WHAT A BOOK! I’m not a fast reader but this book trapped me in a world I never want to leave. The storyline is amazing and isn’t rushed. The characters are amazing and you fall in love with all of them… well, there are a few you love and hate at the same time. As I was reading it felt like I stepped into a drama, fantasy, romance, and action movie.
For this being a debut novel, Blake’s writing is amazing and so is this book. I hope if you’re reading this you take the leap and read this book.

The character development, the rush of emotions from hate, love, sadness, and anticipation. This fantasy novel literally has it all and isn’t one you want to miss out on. Is it okay to fall in love with a book character? Because if so you can’t help to fall in love with every single one. The story had an amazing flow to it that kept you pulled in. This was a great debut! It jumps in right away but gradually builds as we learn about the world, royal history, and magic through Raelle, who has has lost her memories. It felt well balanced but still left you wanting more and I really enjoyed how it was set up. We have a curse, the journey to break said curse, a collapsed kingdom, and a world with fae, shifters, magic, and dangerous creatures. The action was gripping and the twists really got me, I did not see them coming.

I loved the multi POVs, even that one character we all hate who is written so well, like I wanted him to be good but then we hear his thoughts and I just want to unalive him myself. I keep going back and forth between wanting him to have a redemption to needing a break from him because he is just the worst. I’m very conflicted, OK??? I’m pretty sure I’m not suppose to but I can’t help falling for the villains (tell me I’m not the only one). 😭😂 It’s fine. It’s fine. I wouldn’t ship him with anyone right now anyway but maybe a certain empath can ✨change✨ him. I’m looking forward to reading the next book and seeing how the magic and characters are developed further.
