Disclaimer: I was a beta reader for this book, but my opinions are my own.

Another amazing book from K. C. Phillips! So good I read it three times. (Twice right in a row.)

A continuation of the story from By Dust & Duty, By Frost & Forge is packed with world building. Science, medicine, inter-dimensional theorizing... The detail is incredible. I've got parts highlighted and flagged because I know I'll want to remind myself when the third book comes out. If the waiting doesn't drive me insane first...

LGBTQIA+ representation is stellar. Kilas and Jace are two of my favorite characters after seeing their arcs develop in BF&F. My heart couldn't take the sweetness, the steaminess, and the admittedly heartbreaking backstories we get. I had to take breaks, but it was so worth it.

Good lord, someone help me. I can't stop thinking about Milo.

This book will make you cry, and it will also make you laugh so hard you scare the neighbor's dog (sorry, Star). Jace doesn't hold back the snark, and we see Ereta grow confident enough in herself to get snarky, too. Leelin's wit is of course top-notch, and Kilas is a (cough) killer comedian.

Overall, this book is an excellent example of Phillips's consistent world building, character development, and truly beautiful writing style. There are lines in this book that make me forget I'm reading, and others that touch my actual soul and make my heart ache for the raw truth they share about the real world. The subtle foreshadowing, the symbolism and contextual language is so detailed. Every single word has clearly been chosen to mean something.

If you liked the book analysis you had to do in high school lit, but wished you had cooler books to do it with... This book series is for you. It is primed and ready for an intense repeat analysis by an eager fandom. I just don't know why it hasn't got one yet. That being said, if someone wants to start a Milo fan page... DM me.

A truly exemplary character-driven, emotionally laden sequel! Phillips knows how to write complex characters, and the growth and development of Ereta, Milo, Leelin, Jace, and Killer is such a delight, and sometimes heartbreaking, to read and experience. I was on the edge of my seat finding out not only what happens with the mysteries of Scheal and Veirbos but also what happens with these wonderful characters. A must read! Can’t wait for book 3.

Not me crying while writing this review because I am still emotionally traumatized from that ending...😂😭😂😭😂😭

This book did a lot of things to me: I laughed, I cried, I loved these characters, and then I cried some more, I came up with theories (some proved, some debunked) and then I cried again. 🥺

K.C. Phillips really did me on this one. The disconnect in the first book was completely filled in this installment. I was there with them on Shael. I was there with them in Veirbos and Bathtub and everywhere.

I savored that last 7% with every piece of me because I just knew that the ending was going to wreck my brain and heart and I was so right. There is a lot of things that finally just click into place where the story had been building up for them to be. People FINALLY being with the person they were meant to, things being found out and plots being filled. 👀

This installment was a journey none the less, but it is a journey that I wholeheartedly cannot wait to continue. By Rain & Rot needs to be in my ARC inbox much sooner rather than later. Until then, I will be crying in the corner. Thank you✨️✨️

The amount of detail that is inlaid in this book is amazing! The characters are so so lovable and the world building is definitely top class. I loved the amount of detail that was added into this book continuing from the first, and it was just so great! There’s action, and science, and so much more! I can’t wait for books three and four!

Wowowow. Truly a character driven delight! I loved this book start to finish and I canNOT wait for the third book!
I loved the level of detail when it came to exploring the contents of the archives. I’m a little ashamed with how excited I got when there was like a data table entry in the book. Hahahaha.

So original, endearing, with a constant undertone of horny. What is not to like?!

I paid real dollars for a physical copy of this book and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat!

This is the second book of a highly adventurous trilogy. The characters we have met in book one are delved into more deeply adding to the tapestry of their personalities. It’s a good story but the interpersonal relationships are the real beauty of this book. People are complicated and understanding better other people’s intricacies is fascinating and satisfying. Bravo KC!

Even better than the first one. Enthralling and at times truly heart wrenching. Could not put it down.
