Top Israeli startup leader shares invaluable insights on creating genuine, lasting success in business—and in life.
Where does the startup journey begin? Startups are the epitome of untapped potential –turning “unsolvable” needs into a whole new opportunity for growth. Companies aspire to learn from the startup rulebook. Yet, when it comes to our personal lives, we opt to avoid those “unsolvable” problems and stick with the familiar and safe Do as instructed, walk the line, don’t stick out. In Don’t live your life like a startup.
According to Yaniv Rivlin, who revolutionized the e-scooter and vehicle-sharing industries as BIRD’s founding GM, the startup journey begins with us – when we adopt a “startup state of mind.” From his modest upbringing in the Israeli countryside to graduating from Harvard, all the way to a starry-eyed IPO in New York, Rivlin’s inspiring life journey demonstrates the advantages of risk-taking, the power of resilience in the face of failure, a healthy dose of “Chutzpah,” and how even a simple choice like taking the initiative can be a life-changing experience.
With excerpts from Nuseir Yassin (Nas Daily), former Israeli MK Stav Shaffir, Olympic gymnast Neta Rivkin and other inspiring “startup” figures from all walks of life – Live Like a Startup dares you on the path of success by asking the hard questions and opening your mind to what is possible. Most of all, it encourages you to enjoy the ride.
This was a memoir but the title markets it as self-help. I was hoping for more structured chapters which addressed how to “live like a startup”. The key points at the end of each chapter were interesting but not enough. Cool life story but I can’t see the book being successful as is written
An inspirational book that encourages readers to adopt a ‘startup state of mind’...
"Live Like a Startup" by Yaniv Rivlin is a highly motivational book that impels the reader to embrace a "startup mindset" in both their personal and professional spheres. Rivlin's personal trajectory, characterized by his ascent from a modest upbringing to assuming the role of a founding general manager within an innovative organization, stands as a compelling illustration of the principles he espouses. The author presents a contrasting perspective on conventional life practices, encouraging readers to adopt a mindset that embraces the pursuit of risk, innovation, and resilience.
The book is notable for its practicality, as it offers actionable insights that can be readily applied. The book amalgamates Rivlin's personal anecdotes with entrepreneurial insights, providing readers with guidance on how to effectively address obstacles, foster resilience, and cultivate a mindset that embraces uncertainty.
"Live Like a Startup" not only provides valuable information but also effectively captivates and establishes a connection with its readers. Rivlin's narrative, enhanced by personal anecdotes and perspectives from notable individuals, emphasizes the notion that genuine achievement is discovered within the process. The book exalts the various peaks and valleys encountered throughout one's life, underscoring the notion that each individual encounter presents a significant opportunity for personal growth and enlightenment.
Yaniv Rivlin's book serves as a compelling exhortation to embrace a purpose-driven, passionate, and inventive existence through the assimilation of the enterprising ethos inherent in startup enterprises. The book promotes the idea of fostering a positive attitude towards the unfamiliar, acquiring knowledge from obstacles, and finding satisfaction in the continuous process of personal growth. Very highly recommended, and a well-deserved five stars from me. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I love this book and I'm so impressed by Yaniv's journey. This is not your typical 'business' book with lists of prescriptive rules and ways you must live. Yaniv shares authentically his successes and lessons in the things he's tried, and most importantly, what comes through these stories are his teachings that have paved the way for his achievements. Yaniv's ability to think optimistically and lean into possibility with a 'yes' attitude comes through in his story over and over again, and I think these qualities are so important and can be learned. Highly recommend picking up this book. Truly a page-turner!
