Fate is against her. Time even more so. Feletra cannot win against the one man who controls them, the Souls of Fate and Time, and so she must join him. Become the perfect tool of war. In the day, she hones her abilities with the Konexa until the foundations of the Halls of Aberahn quake. In the night, she grieves relentlessly for the one boy she called friend, and whose life she stole.
Blackmailed by her own love, Feletra is at the mercy of Akeon who threatens to slaughter her entire family lest she lead the East to victory in the war. Her powers are coveted by the enemy, whilst her homeland drag her name through the mud as a traitor and a thief. As hope wears thin, and her number of allies even less so, Feletra must make the terrible decision whether to keep her side of the pact and protect her family no matter what, or turn against the East to save thousands and risk the lives of all those she loves.
Beneath it all, unnatural entities from other realms stir restlessly and bleed into Feletra’s own world in the need to reach her, for Esilence begins to face a much greater threat.
War of the Thief by Sapho Economides is the second instalment of the Esilence trilogy and follows up after the events of the first book. Following Feletra’s almost constant trials and tribulations you can be torn with a range of emotions for this main character. I also found this book to be particularly dark with what happens to the other characters.
The book sticks to the backbone of what you would expect from a fantasy genre and allows you to feel the actions and emotions of the storyline. The authors almost archaic writing style compliments the mass use of imagery in the story, allowing you as a reader to create the pictures of the worlds in your mind.
Personally for me not an “easy” read, however that is subjective. I would still recommend the book but encourage time taken to really appreciate the construction of it.
It would be interesting to see if the author would explore writing poetry given her writing style from the books so far.
War of the Thief by Sapho Economics is the second book in the Esilence series and picks up after the events of the first book. In this second book Feletra has to make a difficult choice.
This book is a good epic fantasy story, with a great story-line, and with a female main character you feel for. She has no choice in what to do, and she is labeled a traitor. As a reader you can totally understand how she feels. She is an interesting character.
The writing style is flowing, the world-building is well developed. In this book you find action, betrayal, heartbreak, intrigue and some magic.
I enjoyed reading this second book and am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Book two and this epic journey continues. We pick up from book one and Feletra who has been through so much, faces more trials and has a terrible decision to make as she finds herself more alone then ever. Incredible world building draws you in and the storyline is captivating and has you in its grips. Full of heartache, betrayal, mystery and intrigue, this has you on the edge of your seat, wondering what’s coming next.
