Stalking Second

Rate this book
From USA Today Bestselling Author Naomi Springthorp comes a new baseball romance with a comedic twist. What happens when you put together a numbers girl, a second baseman, and night vision goggles? You're Stalking Second.

The difference between surveillance and being classified as a stalker? Surveillance sounds a lot nicer.

Binoculars or night vision goggles? Either one could ruin her life.

The one thing post-graduate student Maggie didn’t consider the stats on: How much risk would she take for a crush?

Second baseman Drew Brandt is a hometown boy who just moved into his family home. He’s dedicated to the game, but rattling around the big house alone is making him question if it’s time for something more.

He’s drawn to a beauty. He’s curious about an adorable girl in a hoodie that’s big enough for two. He’s intrigued by… his stalker?

I really liked this addition to the series. It's a bit different than the previous ones but it didn't take away from the overall storyline. Then there's the concept of surveillance by the FMC, that gave a unique twist to this book. It added another layer to the story that ends up making everything interesting and how it all turns out. As far as the characters go they work well together. I liked that the FMC Maggie wasn't your typical female, that she was different, kind of quirky and a little bit nerdy. I really liked her best friend , she was always on it and aware of what Maggie was up to. Then the MMC Drew, he was quite the character with his own kind of flair. When you get Drew and Maggie together it's a whole other ball game. These two were chef's kiss together. This story really delivers. It's got banter, chemistry between the main characters, friendships, baseball players, and so much more.

Stalking Second by Naomi Springthorp is the 7th book in the All About the Diamond series. Although part of a series, I read it as a standalone.

Drew and Maggie knew each other in middle school, but only as acquaintances. When life throws them together a decade later, Maggie's attraction only gets stronger. Drew knows there is something familiar about Maggie, but it takes awhile for him to place it. Then when he realizes his stalker is Maggie, all bets are off!

This was a fun read and an enjoyable story! I need to go back and read the rest of the series so I can meet all of the characters in Drew and Maggie's world. I received an advance review copy of Stalking Second at no charge, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Definitely an unusual read. Maggie is doing her post-graduate thesis work focusing on baseball and working for the San Diego Seals. She grew up a baseball fan and loves statistics which makes her thesis a match-up of her two passions- baseball and statistics. Another passion is her longtime crush on Drew Brandt, second baseman for the Seals and her dream man since junior high.

The storyline is cute, but we really don’t get to know the main characters. The author tells the story from both Maggie and Drew’s POV, but it’s fairly surface level. These two have a few casual interactions, but don’t even have a date until the last quarter of the book.

I enjoyed the banter and player interactions between Drew and his teammates; and Maggie and Caroline’s friendship is fun and supportive, if a little wacky.

Overall this was a fun read and definitely entertaining. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I'm going to preface that this story was just too insta-love for me. It started off really well and I enjoyed Maggie and I was intrigued by a 'smart' romance, but this book got weird when Maggie figured out where Drew lived and then went on a whole mission to stalk/spy on him with night vision goggles and then instead of being appalled at this, Drew was just like eh, it's cute that she stalked me and then they're dating and so on. It just didn't feel natural to me, but I did enjoy some of the banter/text conversations.

OMG, what a funny and lovely story. Maggie as the main female character was a hoot!! Drew was so loveable and matched Maggie to the hilt. Their banter back and forth was a breath of fresh air. How they meet is classic. Drew's teammates added to the hilarity of the story. Maggie's best friend, Carolie was so supportive and added to the quirkiness of the story. Truly likable and enjoyable read!

Love a good baseball romance and this story did not disappoint.

It was the 7th book in the series but could be read as a stand alone.

I enjoyed the story and it was fun watching these two really unique characters fall in love.
