Queen's Justice

Rate this book
Not every princess is a damsel in distress.

The Sarven kingdom of Dwenenar has fallen, besieged by a hoard of creatures from nightmare. The King's daughter, Jorna Hailstone, leads the survivors to the neighboring kingdom of Hamdralg for refuge. Hearts heavy with grief, especially over the loss of their beloved King, Guldorn Oathbinder, the survivors turn to his children for comfort and leadership.

When it comes to light that the precious book of enchantments was left behind in their frantic evacuation, Jorna becomes the only one with the knowledge to recover the artifact. She is offered the choice of Hamdralg's finest warriors, but her grieving heart guides her to select the stoic blacksmith, Thane Stoutforge, as her only companion.

Soon, their attention shifts from reclaiming the book to each other. Will their budding attractions hinder their dire quest? Can they survive the unforgiving slopes of the Beldrath mountain range? Or will they succumb to love and ruin?

Queen's Justice is a slow burn, open door spice romantasy novel.

This book genuinely had everything. It takes you through an adventure of love and loss, courage and redemption, revenge, bravery, guilt and all of the above! Mix in a tense romance and dragons!
When I first started this book, I really struggled to adjust to the writing style and third person POV, but I’m glad I stuck around!
If you’re looking for a badass, yet caring female MC - look no further, Princess Jorna was easily relatable who cared for her people and others. Her compassion knew no ends…unless you were her enemy ;)
Shanik’s banter was so amusing! Never missing a beat and keeping everyone in lighter hearted spirits!

This slow burn romance is jam packed full of action. A princess and a blacksmith…who’d have thought?

Thank you @sunnybabepr for the arc.

Queen's Justice follows our three heroes on a quest to retrieve an important artifact. Our three heroes are a princess, blacksmith and dragon. It might sound like the start of a bad fantasy pun but this trio was actually really great. The princess, Jorna, was a strong female MC that has a slow burn romance with our blacksmith Thane. Add to the mix the fiery dragon Shanik and you get a bunch of strong main characters.

The story was quite interesting to follow and I was a huge fan of the banter between Thane and Shanik. The relationship that developed between Jorna and Thane was beautiful to witness and seeing both characters develop throughout the story was a plus.

Lucille definitely painted the reader a vivid picture in Queen's Justice and I believe she's a gifted writer for sure.

I did find things to be quite predictable and I would've loved some more conversation in the book. What bothered me a little were the different POVs. The book is written from a third person perspective, and as a reader, you know what everyone thinks and feels. This is because the story was written in a way that the POV changes. But the problem is: it does so at random within a chapter. So one line might be one character's POV and then the next line is another person's POV. This made things less enjoyable for me personally.

Thank you Sunny Babe PR for an e-arc of this book! 🩷

For all the lovers of typical Romantasy with unpronounceable names and relationship-driven plot - I just know you’ll love this one (telling you from personal experience)
I’ll just start by saying that Shanik (aka a small dragon) was my absolute favourite! There’s just something about dragons I love so much, and this little guy was no different. Generally, the world building was quite interesting, as it seems to have everything at the same time, but I would like to have read more on it, because I’m sure it still has many things to uncover. Same goes for the story as a whole - it was fast-paced and nice, but I feel like it has stayed too much on the surface, without giving details. I don’t know if it’s this or some other factor, but it really made the story feel a bit like a fairytale. Same goes for the main villain of the story, it just felt a little too predictable since we haven’t been introduced to that many characters in the first place.
Romance in this story was nice. Insta love, but also kinda slow burn (which makes everything better), VERY interesting turn on the one bed trope, and the perfect amount of spice (I really don’t like when people overdo it in romantasy)

Favorite Quote: “Believe in who you have become, not who others thought you were.”

I really enjoyed this book! I thought it was short and sweet while still sending you on a whirlwind of emotions 😄

The king’s daughter, Jorna decided to go on an epic adventure to retrieve the Goldsteel’s book, which contains very important enchantments for their kingdom. She chooses Thane Stoutforge, as her companion. Thane is a blacksmith who seems very unlikely for the job. Together they travel to find the book but it’s not as easy as it seems!

Again, I enjoyed this book. I think if anyone is looking for an easy fantasy read, this one is for you! Some tropes include he falls first, strong FMC, slow burn, and guaranteed happily ever after 💕

While embarking on a journey to save an artifact from Jorna’s fallen city, she and Thane face challenges, sort out secrets, and try to make it back alive.

The Queen’s Justice was one of those books that packs a little bit of everything you expect from a fantasy read with some romance and a great HEA - in one book. I loved this storyline and I loved the characters even more. Both characters had to face challenges and grew stronger with each one. The plot twists and secrets were so good. I loved the ending and the resolution we get for Thane and Jorna. I hope in future books we see what happened (and will happen) in Jorna’s city!

As always, check for TWs and happy reading!

This is my first read where I was working with @sunnybabepr and they have been a complete delight

Now let’s get into it 😜

oh my gosh, I really loved this book. I think because the main characters and general setting of the story makes me feel like it would almost be a kingdom in middle earth. The clans remind me heavily of the dwarves people, minus them being vertically challenged like myself. The mindset of the people, the living under and around mountain. All of it, just yes!

The MMC reminds me of the blacksmith version of Thorin Oakenshield physically but with a gentle heart so naturally I loved him 😅

I loved that the FMC is a warrior and a shaman. Seeing magic wielded in a different way and portrayed besides witchcraft was refreshing. In so many books (Not the ones I read and like obvi but in general) witchcraft is portrayed is evil but shamans do very similar things , and they are portrayed more often as holy/gifted/blessed people

It had the perfect amount of spice and it foreshadows more to come for the main characters .

I am curious to see how the dragon fits into the next book and I can’t wait to see what happens in the future for these characters since some they confirmed that there was more to come for them… and omg what do her visions mean?!

They did a really good job at giving me just enough to wonder what each of the main characters destiny is in the future. I can not wait to read more!!
.
.
.
.
I also think it is worth noting that I think this is one more of the males who read my reviews will like. there was just enough spice and flirting to not be like clearly for the girlies. Again, this clan of burley warriors, men and women both warriors and strong, wyvern , evil, and a smart ass dragon companion.

I really loved how this book was written! It gave me JRR Tolkien vibes and I really loved how the different POVs flowed nicely. The plot was spectacular and I enjoyed this story a lot! It definitely was LOTR x Pirates of the Caribbean. The FMC was extremely likable and I loved her badass antics (definitely reminded me of Eowyn). I will say HOWEVER I wouldn’t really call this book a romantasy. It’s fantasy with a minor subplot of romance within it. It’s very minimal, which I do not mind in books, but if that’s something you really need in a book this one might not satisfy you.

All Hail the Queen!

There is nothing better than a strong FMC and Jorna bada** Hailstone was a powerhouse. I just luved her and how much she cared for and battled for her people.

Whew, and then there is the stone hearted blacksmith, Thane! I sure like my MMCs stubborn and grumpy! 😜 Plus he can make me weapons, I’m still swooning! 😍😍😍

The romance was slow burn style, but the buildup of tension and chemistry between Jorna and Thane made the impact hit so sweetly. The quality of the writing is great and the world building and story line were very well down. The story is written in multiple pov with 3rd being the dominant. I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve been reading long enough not to care lol. I still enjoyed the story telling. I also enjoyed that the world building wasn’t too over the top with detail. I personally find this distracting and don’t enjoy it when I read fantasy books. I am a character driven reader so I find that I get bored with books that are too plot heavy.

A fun aspect of the book was the supporting characters. They were well written and interesting. The variety of creatures featured throughout the storyline was another fun aspect of the book along with the scenery descriptors. They definitely gave me the fly on the wall effect. If you are into the fantasy world of Fourth Wing and Lord of the Rings with a sprinkle of A Knight’s Tale, this book carries similar vibes.

Last but not least my favorite character was the feisty dragon, Shanik. What can I say?? I like my dragons feisty. I LOVeD me some Shanik! 😜🐉 Mic drop!🎤 Overall. Liked this read!

A good old-fashioned quest with Lord of the rings vibes!

Thank you so much to @sunnybabepr for giving me the opportunity to read this book! 🫶

This story feels like all the adventure-filled princess and knight fairytales I grew up with! But with a princess that rather than need saving does the saving. It gives off serious lord of the rings vibes with a quest that takes them on a long journey through lots of different dangers. 🏰👑

A princess, a blacksmith and a dragon, do I need to say more? Oh, yes the banter from a self absorbed dragon and a stoic blacksmith can be quite amusing! 🐉

I had some small things that bothered me in this story, which is the main reason its not 5 stars ⭐️. First off the POV changes made me quite confused, it kind of tells the story from everyones POV and changes in the middle of text. At some points it was definitely enriching the story But at other points to me it just felt confusing and unnecessary.
I Also wish We had gotten more of the history of the world, the world in itself is big and imaginative and I understand you cant write to much about the world (unless you want it to be a THICK book). But as it was right now a lot of the history of What had happened that was necessary to the story came in the middle of dialogue or in my opinion late into the story. I wish it would have come earlier instead of as an explanation for What was happening in the moment. 🗺️

I really enjoyed the adventure this book took me on and I LOVED the ending, it gave me everything I was hoping for and more ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay so I’m not gonna lie, I was going to give this book 3 stars but settled for 4 ~ I’m not sure I quite enjoyed the writing style of this book in the sense that it’s not the type of book I usually read. I found the writing very blunt and to the point, and it made it really difficult at times to get lost in the story. I find the writing style comparable to Fourth Wing which is also a popular fantasy book I didn’t enjoy, so maybe this is just a style of writing I’m not used to. There’s two spicy scenes in this book and I give it a 2.5 for spice, although in all honesty I’m not sure any off the spice was necessary and I would have preferred something a little more off page because it didn’t feel fitting.

That being said, the characters in this book were AMAZING and made this book really enjoyable, the universe was beautiful and clearly very well thought out, and this story had pretty much everything in terms of a fantasy novel ~ trolls, giants, orcs, magic, DRAGONS! ☪︎ ִ ࣪𖤐 𐦍 ☾ ♡۵ ⋅.

This story gives Lord of the rings vibes and I feel like if you like that style of fantasy then this is for you. The story follows Jorna the princess, and Thane the blacksmith, on a mission to save Jornas land & people from the evil that has destroyed it, their adventures, the challenges they face and their relationship as it blossoms. .⋅ ۵♡۵ ⋅.

.⋅ ۵♡۵ ⋅. Their relationship, the ending to the story, Jornas struggles with grief and loss were so so beautiful I cried publicly while finishing this book.

*I received an E-ARC of this through Sunny Babe PR*

I love a good fantasy with maces and axes and dragons. Also this cover is absolutely gorgeous! I do have some things to say about this book. While the pacing was good, the first half of the book definitely felt like it was dragging. But after that, things definitely got interesting. The other thing I struggled with was what I like to call "glass bowl effect", where I felt like there was a pane of glass separating me from the characters. I felt like I was watching the story happen play-by-play but I wasn't sucked into the world. I'm not sure if it's because it's written in third person or because we get a little bit of a perspective from many characters, but I didn't feel connected to any of the main characters.

I will say I love Shanik. His personality is very much "grumpy grandpa vibes" and I was living for it. The relationship dynamic between Thane and Shanik really carried this book, especially in the second half. The second half of the book had everything happening all at once and I was definitely pulled in by that point. I just wish the story had grabbed me earlier, but I'm glad I kept reading.

The ending was so sweet. Perfect cozy vibes. There is only one heavily detailed spicy scene and other stuff is fade to black. The romance is a little insta-lovey, but the characters definitely have chemistry. Overall great book and I'll definitely continue with the series. I love this author's writing style and will definitely be checking out some of her other works.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

A great quest to retrieve a book that holds the magical secret instructions to forge stronger gold for the Sarven people. Warrior Princess Jorna Hailstone embarks on the journey back to Dwenenar with her chosen guard, a blacksmith Thane Stoutforge.

My brain struggled with a lot of the names/places (other than the main characters), and I wouldn't even dream of trying to pronounce them out loud 😆

What drew me in:
•the adventure and obstacles they face - it's not all falling in love and pretty scenery. It's really harsh terrain and weather, there's wormholes, and then the Wyrmkin (these nasty winged and taloned creatures)
•Jorna - I loved that the fate of this book and her people rested on her, and she was more than up to the challenge
•Shanik - a dragon! Ok he's like a mini dragon with an attitude problem haha. Honestly he reminded me of Mushu from Mulan, so his voice in my head was Eddie Murphy.
•The romance - it's sweet but based in survival and develops slowly, but once it does it's fiery and protective
•The family dynamics - lots going on for both main characters
•The claiming 🔥 "You belong to me now, Princess. No other man will ever touch you but me..."

I really enjoyed this read, it had a lot of awesome elements and tropes that kept me engaged and wanting to know what happens next!

Thank you for the book Sunny Babe PR!

Queen's Justice is a romantasy read that features redemption, close proximity, fated mates, a dangerous quest, and a scaly animal companion!

I loved the multiple perspectives through the book, it provided opportunities for further world-building and character development. The characters were well written and I loved their arcs, witnessing their growth/change over the course of the story. The world building was digestible and easy to follow. I loved the incorporation of magic/shamanism as well!

My favorite aspect of this read is definitely the characters! Jorng is a dutiful and loyal FMC. She's a princess in desperate need of avenging her kingdom. She gains the assistance of Thane, a blacksmith not looking for adventure or love, but he finds both during this quest! And, let's not forget the sassy animal companion they acquire along the way that provides the perfect comedic relief. Did I mention?....It's a DRAGON?!

I adored this book and ate it up in one sitting! I highly recommend you check out this read and I'm excited to see what Lucille J. Knight does with the rest of the series.

Tropes: slow burn romance, 3rd pov, blacksmith x princess, he falls first, romantasy,

A long journey to retrieve a important artifact that if in the wrong hands means well… destruction ofc. Together, Jorna and Thane, take the long trek that determines the outcome for both their kingdoms.

First off….. I love Shanik. Dragons 🐉. His attitude. His personality. When I say I want a pet dragon… I expect him perched on my shoulder.

Now….Jorna gives me female empowerment and she didn’t let any man walk all over her. Admiration✨Thane gives me big protective teddy bear vibes just finding his worth in life which she showed him. He stood by her side protecting and caring for her while letting her be her own woman.Their dynamic throughout the journey with the lil romantic moments were cute. And the way Shanik was third wheeling was hilarious.

Overall, I loved the storytelling vibes the book gave me as we followed these characters getting closer together as they faced challenges.

Thank you for sending this arc @sunnybabepr🥰

Queen's Justice is a slow burn with a fierce and courageous FMC. Princess Jorna is not a damsel in distress, yes her whole kingdom has been attacked and taken over. Nothing will stop her from helping those who survived and then go back into danger to get the magical book her family must protect.

She must ask for help so she asks the king of Hamdralg for help. He welcomes the few survivors from her kingdom and allows a few of his men to volunteer. Everyone is shocked when the King's son, Thane, volunteers. The only problem is that he's just a blacksmith. Jorna jumps at the chance and takes him on a long journey back to her kingdom.

Thane and Jorna must face the cold winter weather and slippery elopes of the mountain range. They must rely on one another and trust each other to complete the journey. No one expects them to survive a few days in the wild, but Jorna is fierce so she is determined to prove everyone wrong including herself.

I love how Jorna must focus on everything her father has taught her throughout the years to make it through the journey. Everything she has learned in her training as a princess has set her up for this exact moment. She's unstoppable when she allows her instincts to guide her.

Looking for an unforgettable fantasy adventure filled with great world-building and amazing characters? Look no further than this book! It's a tale that combines magic, dragons, and so much more.

One of the highlights is Princess Jorna, a character who is both fierce and compassionate. Despite her badass demeanor, her caring heart knows no boundaries. What sets her apart is her unwavering loyalty to her people – cross her, and you'll feel the full force of her determination.

But it's not just Princess Jorna who steals the spotlight. Enter Shanik, the swoony blacksmith whose charm and wit are as sharp as his sword. The banter between Jorna and Shanik is absolutely top-notch, adding a delightful layer of humor and depth to the story.

With its perfect blend of banter, action, and fantasy elements, this book is a must-read for anyone craving an adventure that will keep them on the edge of their seat from beginning to end.

I enjoyed this book so much.
First off, the fantasy element. The aspect of magic and the way it was used by the main character was really interesting, and definitely created some suspense, while the atmosphere of icy, rocky wilderness highlighted the struggles of Jorna and Thane. I enjoyed the pacing of the plot and it kept me frantically turning pages!
The main romantic relationship was so wholesome. Although it dealt with two people from very different cultures, their undying love and support for each other was heartwarming to read and I was really rooting for them. I also love Jorna as a character - determined, does what needs to be done, focused, respected and respectful: all I need. I'm eager to see how her story will progress in the future!

Queen's Justice" by Lucille J. Knight swept me away on a thrilling adventure from start to finish. I was captivated by the strong-willed protagonist, Jorna Hailstone, whose resilience and courage left me cheering for her every step of the way. Knight's masterful storytelling and vivid world-building transported me to the besieged kingdom of Dwenenar, where every page was filled with heart-pounding action and unexpected twists. The slow-burn romance between Jorna and Thane Stoutforge added an extra layer of depth to the story, keeping me eagerly turning the pages to see how their relationship would unfold. With its perfect blend of fantasy, romance, and adventure, "Queen's Justice" has earned a special place on my bookshelf, and I can't wait to dive back into this enchanting world again and again.

Oh gosh this was such an adventure of loss, courage, redemption, and shocking twists, as well as a love story mixed all in.
From the start your pulled into action.
I felt for Thane from the beginning. Such loss and blame he felt. A blacksmith who finds himself wanting to prove himself worthy. To himself and to others.
Then we have Princess Jorna, she was such a badass, but kind fmc. True compassion for her people and others as well. Unless you become her enemy.
And oh my gosh, freaking Shanik!!!! absolutely freaking loved him 🤣🤣🤣 his personality is just hilarious.

Overall such a good story, I can't wait for the next book to see what follows.

On a quest to save a book that holds the Sarven's greatest secret, Jorna is a very capable magical princess, and Thane is a blacksmith who everyone, especially his father, believes will fail this mission. They face great challenges a long the way, but with the help or a friendly yet sarcastic dragon, they are able to keep going.
This is a story of love, loss, bravery, growth, and so much more. There was never a dull moment, and as a reader, you are kept on the edge of your seat the whole time. Any fantasy lover will enjoy this book because who doesn't love dragons and magic.
Even though this is the first book, it wrapped up nicely and had a great ending.

ARC Review

- strong FMC
- he falls first
- action packed
- princess x blacksmith
- slow burn

I’m fairly new to fantasy. It’s something I often don’t struggle with world building distracting me away from important plots but Knight masterfully weaves together intricate plotlines and compelling characters, that drew me into an inability to stop reading and put this down. Knight has swooped into a very crowded and hard to stand out within genre in a way that I feel will 100% see her name up there w/ some of the most popular fantasy authors of the past few years.

This was such an interesting story with amazing world building. Jorna was such a baddie FMC and I enjoyed seeing her character evolve throughout the course of the story and how devoted she was to her people. Thane was such a great MMC and for being “just a blacksmith” he really grew into being a capable warrior during the course of his adventure with Jorna. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series. If you enjoy LOTR vibes (like I do) and slow burn open door romance, I would highly recommend this book. Thank you to Sunny Babe PR and Lucille J. Knight for the ARC of this wonderful story.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book.

After Princess Jorna and her people find refuge after their kingdom is invaded, she must return to the palace to retrieve an irreplaceable book before it gets into the enemies hands. She must pick a champion to accompany her on her journey. As they make their was across the lands, fighting off perils, they find that maybe fate had a hand in their partnership.

Queen's Justice shows Jorna coming into her destiny and overcoming death, battles, and betrayal.

This was a fun read!
I really do enjoy a slow burn and Lucille J. Knight delivered !
Watching the characters navigate their feelings while on an important quest was also so intriguing and had me wanting more!
If you know me you know that the second ‘an animal sidekick’ especially 🐉 are added to a story they will instantly be my favourite character
Can I just say the trio here definitely gives off the “there’s always a duo in a trio” vibes (if you don’t know what I mean sorry ignore me)

Jorna is a princess, but not your typical princess. She can fight with her magic and her hands. Thane is “just a blacksmith” who becomes her protector for the journey she must go on. I’m not going to lie, the first half of the book was a lot of world building and was sort of a slow build up. But then the dragon comes and the second half of the book really kicks off. There was some awesome fighting, banter, and romance. I love the twists and turns that the book takes and I thought the ending was satisfying, while still showing that there is more to come.

Thanks to @sunnybabepr and @ljknight.author for this ARC!
The start to this story with the world building took a bit of mind mapping for me - it was complex! But after a few chapters I was totally into it, the great adventure and the budding love, the bonding through trauma and loss. The creatures, the magic of the women… the loss and betrayals! I am looking forward to see where fate takes Jorna and Thane, and the Sarvan people!

Queen's Justice is a riveting masterpiece that immerses readers in a world of intrigue, power, love, loyalty, and redemption. I enjoyed everything about this, the plot, the story, and the characters! I especially enjoyed the dynamics between Jorna, Thane, and Shanik. The feelings slowly but surely building between Jorna and Thane, the easiness between Jorna and Shanik, the snarky sarcastic commentary between Thane and Shanik, and the overall friendship all three gain while on their journey. I can't wait to see what happens next in the Wyrmkin Series!

A slight slow burn romance filled with love, loss, revenge, and guilt.
It was fast-paced and full action,
It read very much like a fairytale, with princesses and their adventures.

The characters were amazing, especially Shanik, with the attitude and sass, I loved it.

The world building was complex, and it took a bit for my mind to catch on.

But overall, it was a wonderful read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
