Reckoning: Entertaining, Modern Sheriff COUNTRY CRIME THRILLER with Clean Language and Fast-Paced Action

Rate this book
Perfect for those love crime thrillers with a good and decent main character — noble friends — action — clean language — no graphic sex — a little romance — and an undertone of faith from a Christian worldview.

Murder, sexual assault, armed robbery; those are big-city crimes, nothing folks in rural America need worry about. But a dead body with a peculiar wound tells a different story. Namely, the big city has come to sleepy Big Sky County.

In this 3rd installment in the Big Sky Series, Sheriff Wade Lockhart comes across a man who’s been murdered in his own home. Robbery? Home invasion?

But a single wound on the victim’s forehead, a bullet wound made by a 22-caliber weapon, leads the 45-year-old sheriff to think something more sinister is at work in Big Sky County.

Assassin.

Seeking answers, Wade tracks down a potential witness to the crime. But unbeknownst to him, the strings he’s about to pull will unravel a mystery that goes deeper than he could ever imagine.

And this mystery, this potential assassin in Big Sky, promises more dead bodies before it’s all over.

Entertaining crime thriller — in a modern-day country setting — featuring a no-nonsense sheriff, beautiful scenery, and fast-paced action.

I’m really enjoying these no nonsense thrillers. They are well thought out and beautifully executed. I’m anxious to read the next three book set.

I've had a suspicion at the back of my mind since the first book in the 'Big Sky' series that, somewhere along the line, it will be none other than at the heart of it. I'd hope that turns out not to be the case but the signs are heavy-handed with no trace of subtlety.
“Reckoning” continues the search for the killer of Sheriff Wade Lockhard's son. The only survivor from the ambush tries to have the death penalty dropped by revealing the name of the person who hired him.
But he's killed before he can be questioned and as Wade continues his investigation it becomes clear that whoever is at the centre of the web of deception and murder is killed anyone who can identify him (or her?)
The case, however, is brought to a close through a single out of place comment which, in turn leads to a dramatic climax.
And, wouldn't you know it, I was right all along!
There is no cursing in the book which leads to some really clunky, and unintentionally funny, sentences:-
“Bronson thrust his chin toward the man representing him. “You can,” he cursed, “your decorum.” A beat. “And you can,” he used the same curse word again, “you too, while you’re at it.”
“You mother,” Riley cursed, “are useless. Useless!”
3 Stars.
