The writing style is undeniably one of the best I’ve read from a kr bl novel. This is a very dark novel and heavy in trigger warnings. But due to Baek Nara’s writing style I was immediately hooked on as it helped me glide a bit smoothly through when reading Raymond’s storytelling of the cruelty he went through.
I have never come across such cruelty in a novel before. I felt like I was going to loose my mind especially knowing this is only the beginning as its volume 1. It does make you wonder why someone would write something like this but then you realise, this level of cruelty and power abuse does exist in the real world. Raymond is living in that harsh environment of being tamed into the perfect “pet/dog” for these upper class boys. The characters are really disturbing and they start making you question morality.
Raymond’s fighting spirit and strong desire for revenge definitely helped me carry on with the series. I love strong minded characters with an attitude and how even after the first incident with Jerome, he immediately fought back and never gave up.
Warning: read at your own risk. its very heavy, traumatizing, and depressing.
The MC's life took a turn for the worse after meeting the "Top Floor boys of Bluebell," making it a living nightmare. The atmosphere at Bluebell school and the mysterious dorm mates hint at more trouble ahead. Brace yourself for the story's progression as the MC's life changes forever from the moment he stepped foot in the school.
The MC in "불우한삶" has endured a lot before encountering the four MLs, known as the "Top Floor boys of Bluebell," who make his life a living hell. The story's complexity, mysteries surrounding the MLs, unexpected twists and turns, and the MC's unyielding spirit for justice and revenge make for a compelling and emotional read. Despite the disturbing events, the well-written story keeps readers invested in the MC's journey to overcome his tormentors. The novel sheds light on the concepts of right and wrong, good and evil, and the reasons behind people's actions and everything that is happening.
If I pulled my hair, cried, and facepalmed myself a lot while reading Bluebell arc, what's more when I got to Lavenham arc (vol3 & vol4). To compare these two arcs, Lavenham is worse than Bluebell.
Anyway, I don’t condone or glorify the horrible things that happened to the MC. You might wonder why I still gave it 5 stars even though I hated the traumatic parts, but the truth is, the story is really well written. It makes me feel included, it's like the MC is communicating his inner dialogues with the reader and making them show the reality of life.
The manhwa seems to have toned things down for more convenient reading but I highly recommend reading the novel too for more detailed storytelling. It's so worth it.

Baek Nara's writing style is unparalleled to other stories with similar themes as Bad Life. Raymond Goodman, as the main character, makes you feel like he's guiding you through, which is a testament to her skill. Her masterful storytelling weaves thought-provoking themes and characters, and it has hooked me despite initial reservations and evoked strong emotions and investment.
Initially, Raymond's life seems simple: an unwanted child, abandoned and trapped among sociopathic high-class individuals. But there's more to his birth and entanglement with Jerome, Hugh, George, and Simon
Truthfully, there are more cruelty that Raymond will encounter so I suggest you take a break if you can't take it anymore because it takes a rough road to get to his chosen destination.
Baek Nara explores cruelty and power abuse through Raymond's eyes, leaving you pondering the harsh realities. The 'dog/pet and master' motif illustrates gruesome consequences. The Donwell family's dynamics are disturbing, tormenting Jerome, Simon, George, Christopher, Raymond, and others.
This novel undeniably deserves a lot of attention. It has its own manhwa adaptation, a Korean comic webtoon series. I hope it gets the audience and appreciation it deserves.
Go read (at your own risk) Bad Life 불우한삶 if you haven't yet.
PS. I'll add more once I'm done with this book.
