Annabelle Once upon a time Greyson Hendricks was the only thing I ever wanted, but that was a long time ago. Now I’m focused on more practical matters … namely satisfying my grandmother’s ridiculous demand that I get married so that she doesn’t cut off me and (more importantly) my sister. There’s only one problem: I’m jilted an hour before my wedding, I do the only logical thing a girl in a wedding dress can do. I call in that marriage pact Greyson and I made as teenagers. Surely I can convince him to be my husband for just one day.
Greyson I was prepared to ask Annabelle Greer to be my wife at the tender age of sixteen. Mostly to prevent her grandmother from forcing her to move away from Saddle Creek. We made a pact that day, pledging to marry each other if we found ourselves single as adults. So when she calls in the favor, I’m only too happy to oblige. In less than five minutes I go from wedding guest to groom. She might think our marriage is for convenience sake, but I take my vows seriously. Now I need to woo my wife to show her we’ve belonged together all along.

This was a fantastic friends to lovers romance. It’s my absolute favorite trope and this was a great example as to why. The way Greyson and Annabelle were already connected in the story just gave it such a warmth and then Grey and his dirty mouth brought forth a completely different kind of warmth and I loved it.
The Growly Outcast's Promise is Book 4 of The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, friends-to-lovers, marriage pact, curvy girl gets her first love romance. Annabelle "Bella" is an almost 26 year old sweet and sassy curvy girl who needs to get married by 26 to get her inheritance that her evil grandmother is withholding. Greyson "Grey" is her best friend since they were teenagers and her first love. They made a marriage Pact at 16. Now, she is about to marry her gay friend, Devon, to get the inheritance when he bails on her, leaving her stranded. Grey is at the wedding and happy to step in when asked. But he wants the marriage to be real as he has loved Bella forever. OMG, these two!!!! I wanted to slap them silly to just communicate and stop being so stubborn. Grey's dirty-talking mouth was hot 🔥 as was their chemistry. They had me rolling with their flirty, dirty teasing. Kat is the master of the sexy, swoon-worthy rom com, and this did not disappoint. I am totally in love with Grey and have yet another new book boyfriend. It was so good!! I'm sad this series is over. I need a sexy bonus epilogue. Please! 👏

best friends to married after being kept apart. Annabelle and Grey were destined soulmates, and Grey stepping in when she needed him most was the best thing that happened to both of them. Excellent series can’t wait for the next one.

OMG!!! WOW!! Fab*u*lous Absolutely love this one!! I couldn't put this one down. This was a nice quick, short read.

When Annabelle is about to walk down the aisle to one of her friends he leaves, sending her a message that he's sorry he can't go through with it. Annabelle messages Greyson asking him if he's at her wedding, then she tells him she's calling in their pact. When Greyson finds Annabelle he finds out that her groom left, so he steps in. After Greyson talks to Annabelle without seeing her, he heads to the alter, he fingers the ring in his pocket the one he bought for her when he was seventeen. After they are married, they walk back down the aisle. Annabelle's grandmother is standing waiting for them, then she tells them this isn't over. They head back to the room where Annabelle got dressed, Greyson helps her out of her wedding dress. Then Greyson realizes she in shape wear and the tells her to take it off, but when she has a hard time he pulls out his knife and starts cutting it off of her. Greyson tells Annabelle she should never have to wear something like that. While Greyson is cutting off Annabelle's shape wear she tells him she's naked under it and he shouldn't see her. Greyson tells Annabelle she's his wife, and he'll see her naked whenever he wants. Then Greyson is pleasuring her, when Annabelle's grandmother knocks on the door, Greyson tells her they'll be out in a few. After the reception they drive to Houston, grabbing something to eat along the way. Greyson notices that Annabelle is tired so he tells her they can sleep in tomorrow before they drive back to Saddle Creek. Annabelle gets a phone call from her sister Lizzie who tells her that their grandmother is already called the lawyers to draw up an annulment. When they arrive at Annabelle's home Greyson tells her to get ready for bed, he's going to take a shower. Greyson makes it clear to Annabelle that he wants her but not tonight since she's so tired. Greyson and Annabelle head to the bedroom, while they are talking he realizes that she thinks this is only temporary. Annabelle tells Greyson why she needed to get married, she is only doing it for her niece and nephew, so they have the inheritance. Annabelle tells Greyson she doesn't want to fight right now, when he realizes she only wants to be married to him temporary, while he loves her and has since he saved her. Greyson tells her this is a real marriage, they are husband and wife. Greyson tells Annabelle there won't be an annulment and no divorce. Greyson tells her they will be having sex in their bed, often, but not until Annabelle agrees to these terms. Greyson asks Annabelle if she is ready to be in with him, she tells him she can't. Greyson tells Annabelle to let him know when she's ready. Annabelle doesn't think that Greyson loves her, in love with her and without that she can't stay married to him. Greyson gets some advice from his brother Landry and sister in law Brook The Gruff Loner's Bargain, they asks him if he's told Annabelle that he in love with her. Greyson doesn't think he needs to tell her that he loves her. A week later, Greyson gets advice from a lawyer that Annabelle's grandmother can't do anything about them being married. When Greyson gets home he finds Annabelle spread out on his bed pleasuring herself, so he pleasures himself. Later, while Annabelle is putting her things away she finds a ring box in Greyson's dresser. While she's on the floor crying her eyes out Greyson comes home. Annabelle tells him she's not mad, just sad, for him. Annabelle tells him he sacrificed his happiness to marry her instead of the woman who clearly loves. Greyson doesn't understand, so Annabelle tells him it's obvious he bought that for someone intending to ask him to marry him but instead, when he came to her wedding, he saved her. Greyson tells her that's not what happened he didn't sacrifice anything to marry her. Greyson picks Annabelle up and puts her into his lap, telling her it's his turn to talk. Greyson tells Annablle, she's right, he did buy that ring, intending to propose, but it didn't work out. Annabelle asks Greyson how could he have not worked out? The ring is perfect. He's perfect she doesn't get it. Greyson tells Annabelle he bought that ring for her when she was sixteen, he never got a chance to show her or give her a proper proposal because her grandmother took her away before the school year ended. Annabelle can't believe he kept it all this time, Greyson tells her he always intended to give it to her. Then when Annabelle told him she always intended to give it to her. Then when she told him he was, she was getting married he figured he lost his chance. Greyson asks Annabelle if she knows why, he picked it out for her, he tells her to save her from having to move away when he knew she wanted to stay. Greyson tells Annabelle the thought of her moving away, and not getting to see her every day felt like he was losing a limb. Greyson tells Annabelle he is in love with her he always has been. He doesn't want to stay married to her because of somewhere obligation or honor he wants to be her husband. She's the only wife he's ever wanted. Greyson tells Annabelle he's sorry he didn't tell her sooner he thought she knew how he felt. Annabelle tells Greyson she never knew how he felt she spent her entire adult life, being annoyed, that she could never fall in love with any man she went on a date with. Annabelle tells Greyson she's always been in love with him. He's the beginning and end for her. Annabelle takes off her ring and asks Greyson if she can have her ring now. Greyson slides the ring on her finger. Annabelle tells him she loves him and Greyson tells her he loves her. Greyson pleasures Annabelle then they make love. They love each other, and live happily ever after.

I recently finished The Growly Outcast's Promise by Kat Baxter, and I have to say, it was a delightful read that truly tugged at my heartstrings. The story revolves around Annabelle Greer, who finds herself jilted just an hour before her wedding. In a moment of desperation, she calls upon her childhood friend Greyson Hendricks, with whom she made a marriage pact years ago.
What I loved most about this book was the depth of the characters. Annabelle is relatable—her struggle between duty to her family and her own desires resonates deeply. Greyson, on the other hand, is the kind of hero you can’t help but root for. His unwavering commitment to Annabelle, even when their marriage is supposed to be temporary, adds a layer of sincerity that I found refreshing.
Kat Baxter’s writing style is engaging and filled with humor, which kept me turning the pages. The dialogue flows naturally, making the characters feel real and relatable. I appreciated how Baxter balanced the romantic tension with light-hearted moments, creating an enjoyable reading experience.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the story, I did find some plot points a bit predictable. However, Baxter’s storytelling and character dynamics more than made up for it. The journey of Annabelle and Greyson discovering their true feelings for each other was beautifully crafted.
Overall, The Growly Outcast's Promise is a charming tale that celebrates love and second chances. If you’re a fan of contemporary romance with relatable characters and a heartwarming storyline, this book is definitely worth picking up! I’m excited to see what Kat Baxter has in store for us next.
For weeks Annabelle is trying to not act as a Bridezilla as she is getting married so that she can keep her inheritance for her sister and her niece & nephew. Her friend, Devon, is supposed to wed her, but things don’t work out and he chickens out. I felt bad about it, but I thank goodness that her childhood crush and good friend, Grayson was attending and she got him to take Devon’s place. I laughed my butt off as both of them never realized the other was in love with them. It was really funny that both were so oblivious that other people could see. Her grandmother is terrifying and her sister, Lizzie is hilarious. The kids are Lydia and Bennett. Annabelle has always been called Bella by Grayson and there are a lot of heartwarming moments in the book. Grayson is awesome and I fell in love with him long ago and he was just awesome. I adore Saddle Creek, TX stories and this one didn’t disappoint and we get to see a few of the other books’ characters in cameos. I had to put the AC on practically from the beginning from the heat of reading the words that Grayson says. Wow. Just wow. Lol. Finding out about their mutual pasts fascinated me and made just a bit depressed, mostly about how she left Saddle Creek because of her family. Her grandmother is a piece of work. Ugh. I dislike her immensely. Things get steamy and hot. I hope to see a book with Lizzie and the kids in the future. I can’t wait for the next book.

Annabelle's wedding plans crumble when her groom skips town right before the ceremony, leaving her inheritance – and her future – hanging in the balance. Desperately, she turns to her childhood best friend, Greyson, to fulfill a long-standing pact: if either of them was still single when they were adults, they'd marry each other. Enter Greyson, who doesn't think twice about stepping in. After all, he's been head over heels for Bella since their teenage years. What Annabelle assumes is just a temporary arrangement though, is anything but for Greyson. He’s all in, ready to make this marriage the real deal. But convincing Bella that she’s been the love of his life? That's a challenge he’s more than willing to take on (if only she’d just listen to him!). One of the most hilarious and unexpected moments was Greyson’s bold ultimatum—no sex until Bella takes their marriage seriously! The scene where they playfully tease each other without actually touching? That was freaking hot. Their chemistry was off the charts! Greyson’s mix of sweetness, humor, and undeniable charm had me rooting for him from the start. All it took were those three little words, and boom – the happily-ever-after he’d been dreaming of was finally his. This story was equal parts heartwarming and sizzling – a perfect blend of laughs, love, and swoon-worthy moments! Annabelle was told she had to get married before her twenty-six birthday to get her inheirtance her father left her and her sister. Annabelle was not thrilled but asked her friend to do it and he agreed only because he did not like woman and thought he could do it but at the last minute drove away. Annabelle never thought she would have to ask her very best friend Greyson. When they were younger they made a pack that if neither one weren't married by a certain time they'd marry each other. She text Greyson and he was there to see his best friend get married to another man. Greyson was shocked by the request. He wanted to marry her when they were sixteen. Greyson of course said he'd step in and marry the woman he has loved for years. The grandmother was not happy with the marriage, as she was the one making her get married and holding the inheritance over her head. Greyson was all in and at first Annabelle thought he wasn't serious and knew it would be only temporary but Greyson had no intention of it being temporary. Once Greyson explained he loved her and always had and always will. Annabelle explained she loved him annd always would. They were able to live a happy life together.

She has to get married or forfeit her inheritance. She would gladly give it up just to throw it in her grandmother's face, but her sister is a single mom and needs the money. She makes a deal with her gay friend, but he gets cold feet so she calls on her childhood friend and a silly pact they made as kids. He has always loved her, so when she texts him from brides room he is only too happy to move from the audience to the podium as the new groom. She thought she was getting a stand in, he is determined that things are finally where they are supposed to be. This is a short story format, so you don't expect to get a lot of detailed character development or complicated plot lines. The author does a good job sharing the personalities of the mains and their joint childhood. These two clearly have a mutual chemistry and just needed an impetus to set it off. Once the lid is off there is no putting it back on. Greyson is just about the best book boyfriend, he is all about her curves, and drawls "Darlin'" at every turn. The only thing missing for me was an epilogue.

The Growly Outcast's Promise is the fourth book in The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series. This is another delightfully fun and entertaining book in the Saddle Creek world. This second chance story is about Annabelle Greer and Greyson Hendricks. Annabelle and her sister had grown up in Saddle Creek until their parents died and they were moved away to live with their grandparents. Before their parents died their father did not make a will, but he did leave a trust for the girls. The problem is that the trust is overseen by their grandmother who is more than "a piece of work". She has been holding the trust over the girls heads which has resulted in Annabelle about to be married to a man she does not love. But when he turns tail and runs Annabelle calls in a pact she made with Greyson.....and he becomes her groom. For her it may be a fake marriage for a purpose but for Greyson it is all real and he is never letting her go. The fun becomes the honeymoon and more as these two try to sort things out between them and get to the HEA they were always meant to have.
This book hits all of my all-time favorite tropes: Friends to lovers and marriage of convenience, all into one story! And an AWESOME one at that! Annabelle’s marriage of convenience groom walks out on her right before she walks down the aisle and she must be married to get her inheritance. She calls her best friend, Greyson—who is in the audience, and gets him to be the groom. Greyson has been in love with her since they were teens and only came to this wedding to say goodbye but he walks away married to the love of his life. But neither will actually say their feelings and Annabelle refuses to think of this marriage as anything but temporary.
I love each scene when they confide in others because they can’t admit their feelings to eachother. The sexual tension is terrific, Kat Baxter can write fire! 🔥 100% recommend for a quick sexy read with terrific characters and setting of Saddle Creek!.

Annabelle (h) is pressured by her grandmother to get married in order to secure her inheritance and plans to marry her gay best friends, Devon, in a marriage of convenience until he bails on the day of the wedding. She asks Greyson (H), her best friend from childhood and her secret crush, to fulfill their teenage pact to marry. He steps in as the groom, no questions asked, changing everything in Annabelle’s life. Greyson has been in love with Annabelle for since they were teens but she has no idea as to how he feels about her. Greyson even had a ring to propose with at sixteen and is determined to show her that their marriage can be real, if only she’ll let it. But Annabelle is convinced that Greyson is simply acting out of duty and friendship, not love. As they navigate their new life together, they'll have to open up to one another, even as things heat up between the two. If the dog approves, then it'll all be good. Sweet and steamy second chance, friends to lovers, mountain man romance, with humor, tension, and heat.
Current read - The Growly Outcasts Promise by @katbaxterauthor
I've loved Kat's books for a while and this one has stepped up the game. I love me some instalove romance, it's nice to get a quick hit of love and a happy ending. But damn has Kat stepped up the heat in this little bad boy. Greyson is a big, dirty talking, alpha male who has been in love with Anabelle since the day he rescued her from the lake. Best friends, torn apart by Anabelle's Grandmother who moves them away from Saddle Creek (honestly I love Saddle Creek, I want to move there!) Anabelle is the curvy sweetheart who just wants to help her sister by securing her niece and nephews future. The love between the two main characters just flows off the page, you can see how much they mean to one another.
💚 Friends to lovers 💚 Instalove 💚 Dual pov writing 💚 Marriage of convenience (to help Anabelle with a situation) 💚 No cheating or angst 💚 Pure love 💚 Standalone within a series, with interlinking characters 💚 HEA
5/5 stars, brilliant read and will be reading again.
I took some time after reading this to figure out how I felt about it. This was a good book. Greyson and Annabelle have been in love with each other since they were young. But apparently neither one of them knows the other is in love with them. But when Annabelle needs a groom, less than an hour before the wedding, she asks Greyson to honor the marriage pact they made when they were kids. Greyson, being completely in love with her, accepts. Greyson was a great character. He’s thinking he is finally getting his dream-marriage and life with Annabelle- as he can use this time to show her how amazing they are together as a couple, not just as friends. Annabelle is so convinced he only sees her as a friend, even after a steamy scene, that she doesn’t want to really see how great they are because she can’t be married to the man she loves if he doesn’t love her back. I did get a bit frustrated with how dense both of them are, especially Annabelle, but it does work out and there is a happily ever after. I did receive an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest opinion.
Annabelle and Greyson, the lead characters, have been friends since they were children. When Annabelle’s grandmother insists she get married to access her inheritance from her father, she deals with it. But when the groom disappears, she begs Greyson to follow through on their childhood pact.
Though Annabelle only intends a short term marriage, Greyson wanted to marry her when they were teens and he’s not letting go.
But both are afraid of ruining their friendship by admitting they want more…
This short story is dual POV, and a sweet and steamy, friends-to-lovers, contemporary romantic comedy, with many silly misunderstandings that lead to “awww” moments. I appreciated Annabelle’s determination to not overcommit Greyson. I shook my head and chuckled at their miscommunications around their feelings toward each other. I enjoyed the deepening intimacy and the happy, steamy ending.

Great before bed read, about hour and half. Loved the right to the point story, honestly most stories don’t need tiresome fillers because the simple but very well written stories are memorable.
Bella is a week from turning 26 and her cranky hoity-toity of a grandmother is making her and her sister, Lizzie life hell, and add in Lizzie’s children. Dragon lady won’t give them their inheritance unless Bella marries before she’s 26, wedding before her birthday to keep their fathers money and it’s help for Bella’s niece and nephew, so she’s sacrificing for them and her sister. Bella’s ‘groom’ Devon is her good friend and a marriage of convenience is their plan and he’ll pretend to be straight to help her but he got cold feet. Bella’s long time best friend, her hero, Greyson happens to be at this wedding but when the plans change, he’ll go from guest to groom, he’s all in but what of Bella?.

Whew! It’s a toss up whether this book was more hot or more romantic, either way though, it’s a must read.
Annabelle, the FMC, is being forced to marry in order to receive her inheritance but when she’s stood up on the day of the wedding, she calls in a promise she made with her best friend as a teen. The only man she’s ever really cared about.
Greyson had wanted to marry Annabelle at seventeen but she was forced to move away and the chance was lost. Now, twelve years later, when she calls in his promise, it’s the answer to all his dreams but what is she talking about every time she says it’s temporary?
This was an awesome read!! Greyson is the man I’ll be measuring all my book boyfriends by for a long time to come; he’s the total package—hot, sweet, romantic and protective and SEXY!! This one needs to be on every reader’s Want To Read list, you’re gonna love it. 5 Amazing Stars!.

Annabelle/Bella needs to be married to gain access to her inheritance from her controlling Grandmother, for both herself and her sister who's a single mother. On the actual day, the intended groom runs away, because fair enough, he has his own gay life to lead; and Bella calls on her best childhood friend Greyson who's attending the wedding, to step up. Bella is in denial that Grey loves her and it's a little frustrating, but eventually ... well, it's a short story, I won't spoil it for you.
This was a quick read that is well written and a nice break during the day. Grey is an absolute book boyfriend, and Bella was a little frustrating but overall very likeable, and together they had amazing chemistry and lots of steamy scenes. I enjoyed this and need to read the others in the series!.

The fourth installment of Kat Baxter's awesome The Mountain Men of Saddle Creek series is the must-read best friends-to-lovers / marriage-of-convenience romance, The Growly Outcast's Promise. Greyson shows up BFF Annabelle's wedding to say goodbye to the woman he's loved since she was thirteen - only to be roped into being the groom. In order to secure her and her sister's inheritance, Annabelle needs to be married by next week, and when her original fake groom backs out, she calls on her bestie - and the man she's loved forever. Now that she's his wife, Greyson has no plans to let his wife go. So when she starts saying things like temporary and fake, will be able to convince her she's stuck with him forever? A swoony, steamy, sexy and fun read!.

What a delicious and delightful story. I firmly believe that men should read romance books to learn what women like. Guess what, Greyson reads romance books! Just how HOT is that? Really, really, really hot. The storyline in this book is EXCELLENT and the characters are well-written. The back story is GREAT. The interactions between Greyson and Annabelle are sweet, tender, steamy, and funny. I LOVED everything about this AWESOME book. I finished this standalone book with no cliffhanger in about an hour. The enjoyment and pleasure I received from this book will last much, much longer. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this WONDERFUL book.

“She beams at me. My mama used to call that her Greyson smile because she said she never saw Annabelle give it to anyone else.”
A funny, hot, quick read story about teenage friends that changes to forever love when Annabelle has to get married by her 26th birthday for her inheritance. They have both always secretly loved each other but Annabelle and her sister moved away and they never acted on their feelings. Greyson is 100% sure what he wants now that he has Annabelle as his wife and he is supper sexy and alpha in the bedroom. You find yourself chuckling 🤭 and sighing at the same time. Ms Baxter has done it again!!.

This is OH BOY From the world go. What a FOURTH book in this series. Holy crap on a cracker.
Annabelle calls in a wedding pact with Greyson, but its SOOO much more than that. These two had been in love for longer than she can remember. The wedding pact they made at kids was the perfect catalyst to finally get them together.
Its touching and so heart warming ooey gooey as they as so perfect for each other. There is so much depth to them you feel like you've known them for awhile.
You'll be ohh and ahh as you read these two get down and oh so naughty mouthes on these two. It hot, written so well ,and might even make you blush a little!
This is a WELL deserved, naughty story we all could read right now....maybe even a few times....so far!
Enjoyable series and this is another storytelling added to it. The characters are long time childhood friends and sweethearts. Her grandmother took her to live away from Saddle Creek at the age of sixteen. All the years in between have sustained their relationship via facetime conversations and an agreement to marry if necessary...and today, on her wedding day, is the day she calls and needs him to honour it, after the intended groom bails. A marriage of convenience becomes much more. The inconvenience of poor communication leads them both to misunderstand and pushes them to verge on the edge of becoming or making a mistake. A ring box and its content is the catalyst to their forever ending.

Annabelle and Greyson are long-time friends who both had secret crushes on one another. In their teens, they made a marriage pact that Annabelle calls in at the very last minute. Fortunately, Grayson is more than happy to step into the role. The problem comes with her version of the marriage vs. his.
I didn't understand how they could transition so easily from friendship to a physical relationship but couldn't communicate better, especially since they were best friends for so long. Overall though I liked the story, except for this lack of communication.
ARC was provided by Booksprout, and this is my honest review.
