This is the same review from vol3 and vol4.
Warning: read at your own risk (this review and the entire novel itself)
Another well-written 불삶 arc from 백나라 and to be honest, despite the well-written cruel imagery and depictions in the Lavenham/Laverham arc (correct me with the spelling if wrong), I still can't shake the fact that the MC suffered more worse in this arc than the previous Bluebell arc. Well he suffered at Bluebell too, but this arc will get you more angrier than ever you had from Bluebell. Except for a fact that Raymond succeeded another part of his revenge but this time, its George paying the price.
I rated it 3 stars for some reasons: 1) Raymond (MC) suffered 🍇 too much, inhumanly disgusting and traumatizing. I keep on squinting and facepalming myself while reading this arc, stomach flipping I almost vomit. 2) The writing style, as I have mentioned in my previous 불삶 review, makes the reader feel included. What I mean is, reading what Raymond has been going through in the hands of those filthy disgusting men in days and weeks makes me feel like a bystander. A bystander who can't even stop what's going on and reach out to help him. I was literally crying. That's what vol3-vol4 made me feel like.
Suffocating and frustrating af.
Not that I can say it was the best part, but we've got to see more of Simon's character unpacking layer by layer. Simon was more complex of a character than Jerome and the others. Jerome is mysterious but easy to be read and interpreted. Unlike Simon, there are lots of layers you have to peel to see the real him and this arc was just the start of it, same goes with Jerome but on a different perspective. I have also have seen a bit of changes with Jerome's character, his unfamiliar subtle emotions and approach towards Raymond. But on top of that, the main man of this arc was none other than Simon.
George's death was so satisfying. George with his burnt face like Deadpool enough to make me laugh with joy added to that satisfaction. Raymond succeeded plotting his revenge towards Hugh and George. He successfully eradicated the true perpetrators of his hell life (there are some reasons why I didn't specifically include Jerome and Simon bec it'll be revealed in the next chapters and volumes). Like what Jerome said on vol6, Raymond succeeded in separting Hugh and George, the lovers, with each other.
If there's an arc that I would like to re-read, Laverham arc isn't one of them unless a miracle happened to pass by and encourage me to reread it with bravery (or if my short-term memory struck me).
