The one thing my pen pal and I have in common is imprisonment. While his is literal, I am bound in the chains of my abusive partner. While he is locked behind bars, he gives me a glimpse of the love I have been looking for my entire life. When my world starts to come down around me we both gain our freedom, allowing us to face our demons together. Zander continues to instill hope for our future while the rich and corrupt strive to collapse his empire of vengeance. They say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but what if your friend is the enemy? When the darkness tries to consume me, will the hope he has sprouted inside of my mind be enough to save me this time?
This is a DARK AND DEPRAVED romance novel with a guaranteed HEA. Amara goes through hell and back multiple times in this story. This story is not for everyone, so be aware of the triggers and take them seriously. Your mental health matters. Please don’t ignore my warning!
Emily Klepp is a Western North Carolina native residing in eastern Tennessee with her loving husband and two beautiful children. She has been writing since she was fourteen years old as a way to cope with her anxiety. She hopes to help others be able to speak their truth by writing about topics that are considered too taboo for societal norms.
This book was provided for me. (Apparently there’s censorship on specific words now? Idk) 214 pages of sheer abuse. That’s how I’d sum this up.
The plot - this is an abuse/healing/trauma journey. With like a weird mafia biker thing going on?? I’m not entirely sure. Basically the MMC is “big scary man - don’t fuck with me!” And then literally everyone proceeds to fuck with him. And the FMC is this traumatised victim of DV, SA, GR… just, everything fucked up. - - 3 pages of trigger warnings and not a single one mentioned how minimised the trauma was in this book. Like “yeah she was graped. But have some SEX!” excuse me? Sorry, i don’t think I read that right. - - It seemed like every chapter was “yeah so she was graped… lets have sex that is EXACTLY as her grape was described, the day after it happened.” EXCUSE ME WHAT???? And then one of the assailants basically reverse grapes her, by using the sex technique the MMC used to help her get over her trauma, to grape her again, AND THEN because if that wasn’t enough... The MMC then re-reverse grapes her by carrying out the scene again???? I’d input a joke here but I’m still feeling physically sick that someone felt this was an okay scenario to write about. Also, all of that ^ happened within like 4 days in book time. - - The FMC being desensitised to this treatment or not, this narrative is potentially extremely harmful to survivors and victims. This book was 70% sex scenes, and then 30% trauma and healing. For a book with SUCH a heavily triggering theme, that gave a faint vibe of “this is for you, victims! This is our revenge!” , why was sex the main theme? Should it not have been healing? I don’t know.
The side characters - they made this all worth it. The FMC had a support system in the specific good people side characters, and they alone could’ve made this a 3 star book but, well, ya know.
The main characters - I don’t want to talk about them. Amara and Xander. Xander’s an ex convict and Amara is the victim of… well, everything. I think the author used what could have been a safe space for the two characters and abused it for the sake of drama and more trauma. No. We don’t get to abuse characters to the point of no return and then say “oh look, they lived happily ever after!” It doesn’t work that way. Sometimes broken is broken, and that is that. I disliked both of these characters because they were used like pawns on a chess board for some skewed vigilante justice for SA survivors. That ended up being more about smut and one handed reading than actually sending a positive message.
Edited to add: be careful what you write in your reviews! I have screenshots of the author using people’s reviews in her private ARC group of over 350 people claiming that they aren’t the target audience, they are uneducated and ignorant and just shouldn’t write reviews about books with content they’re uneducated on… :)
Absolutely no. As a survivor of multiple rapes this book is disgusting. She gets raped by like 20 men and then jumps into bed with a guy she met that same day… THEN he forces her to have sex with him in front of a bunch of people? Her friends can’t touch her because of ptsd but this stranger can do whatever he wants. It was verrrry poorly written and was just rape after rape just for the sake of being “dark”. Wouldn’t recommend. Also if you leave a bad review the author has been screenshotting them and posting them on her private Facebook group and running her mouth with her readers about you. Disgusting, immature and childish honestly

Amara and Zander fall in love as pen pals while he is incarcerated. She's unaware of his real identity and reach. Amara "Pixie" is a victim to her current boyfriend and his human trafficking. This is an age-gap romance about fulfilling love and vindication.
This story contained themes I would usually enjoy, but the execution was off. I couldn't feel a connection between the two love interests other than mild friendship because the story lacked character development. Both the character development and writing lacked depth that would make both come across as real rather than at a superficial level.
Especially apparent was the unbelievable portrayal of Pixie’s assault. After her experiences, she behaved so spiritedly as to counter her portrayal of being triggered. After traumatic moments, she would, for instance, giggle and sliding up to Zander with sexy. Screw me harder? After all she’s been through? Sure, everyone reacts differently, but I found her inconsistent and inauthentic. This was likely due to the strength of the character development more than the character behavior.
Zander didn’t come across well as the alpha bad boy with power of his position. I recognize the intention to show him as strong, but the scene with the parole officer, for instance, made Zander look weak that he didn’t defend his gf. Ok, not every hero is in a position to do so, but his character didn’t endear himself to me any better.
Great pace and I'm happy to have not read content filler. It was also very, very spicy. Fun side characters and friendships. Cheers for those. Unfortunately, my interest in the couple's outcome and plot line waned, a combination of immature writing and unbelievability.
Finally, this author makes a habit of publicly criticizing and raging against readers who give her legitimate negative reviews, contending they are author-bashing, they can’t appreciate her writing, aren’t comfortable with the tropes. I will avoid future reading of her books despite my interest in the themes.
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS IVE READ!!! Allowing survivors to have justice and find love! This book could not have been more perfectly written! Justice was served in a way every victim dreams of it happening I’m sure because I know I enjoyed it!
I will start off by saying that I have absolutely zero triggers an I enjoy dark romance but sadly this wasn’t for me. As a non English speaker even I found the writing to be very simple and emotionless, almost like what you would find in a fanfiction.
“Books help me escape reality and I desperately need to be somewhere other than this one”
⚠️ PRE-WARNING CHECK THE TW BEFORE DIVING INTO THIS BOOK, the list is long! And I don’t say that lightly with this book there are a lot of sensitive/heavy topics/scenes that are not for everyone ⚠️
I have been reading quite a few of Emily Klepp’s work recently and I have come to realised a couple of things. 1. I really enjoy her writing style 2. I love the characters she creates and 3. She ABSOLUTELY knows how to take her main characters to hell! And just when you think things are good, it’s like Emily flips a switch and goes “uh no, more trauma” And Until Then is no different!
This was a heartbreaking read, this story pulled on a lot of heartstrings and pulls you in, I’m usually a slow reader but I powered through this book! I did get a bit teary eyed reading Amara’s journey and that in the beginning she found comfort in a person she had never met. I love that after everything she has to go through she does get her revenge and she does eventually get her HEA.
Yet again, Emily has done a fantastic job with the characters, chemistry and scenes and honestly I would love to just crawl into her brain and sit amongst all these creative/chaotic ideas.
Yes this book is trigger heavy, but it is definitely a book to be read!
Poor Amara, she was dealt such an awful hand and everything that she endured, but she is such a strong, powerful person. Zander. The lovely Zander. He was perfect for Amara, and treated her sooooo well, it made me just love him even more. I cannot believe when I found out his own friend was the one who set him up, and then to also find out that his “friend” was the ring master of everything!
The twists, the turns. The heartache you will endure. This book is POWERFUL and so well written. Emily is such an amazing author, and this is another book here that proves that.

"Pixie, we are all a bit crazy. How we use it is what matters." 🚨 Check your trigger warnings before diving into this book! 🚨
This is the first Emily Klepp book I've ever read and it's also my first ever ARC read! I will 100% be back for more from Emily. I was absolutely hooked from page one and devoured this story in one day. Amara's story is heartbreaking, and, as crappy as it is, it sheds some light on the crap reality of our justice system and what victims face. Although she was broken down in several aspects throughout the story, she stayed strong, and ultimately got her much-deserved revenge. Diego and Eliza are absolute angels, and I really loved that they were strong characters Amara could rely on throughout her journey. Lastly, Zander has a heart of gold too. He may be a bit... morally gray... in some respects, but he truly melts for Amara and they both deserved their HEA. ❤️ Tyrone also deserves a shout out because, although he's a teddy bear for his friends, his brutality to those who deserved it was icing on this revenge cake. 😂
I am an arc reader. I love a good dark romance as much as the next person but I will say this book was not for me. The getting raped by her mans parole officer right in front of Zander made me put my phone down. It would have been one thing if Zander was tied up, unable to do anything but he was not. I think this ruined Zander in my eyes for the rest of the book. I will also say Amara’s ptsd was very selective, going as far as getting brutally gang raped and not even a week later having sex with mmc with little to no issue or reservation.
Really love this author, and this book might be for some people, just not for me

I have to say this was my first read by Emily and I really LOVED this book. I laughed, I teared up and I got angry. It pulled so many emotions out of me and that’s always a tell tale sign of a great read. She can suck you in with her story and the way she writes her characters. It feels like you’re in her story experiencing everything with the characters as it happens.
The characters are so real like and going through real life issues and they get through so many bad things. I do like that they take matters in their own hands with justice. My favorite characters are hands down Sander, Tyron, Diego and of course the bad a$$ Amara who was such a warrior for all she battled and had to go through. She handled so well what she went through, I truly felt for her through the whole book.
This book was fascinating and spicy and sad all wrapped up in one. Definitely look up your triggers before reading!
Have you ever had that boss that thinks he’s everything & a bag of chips? Imagine you’re in a relationship with him, live with him, work with him. He thinks he owns you, he controls everything aspect of your life. The only thing that is yours is a pen pal on the internet and no matter what you are going through this stranger is a beacon of light. Until Then is a dark themed book that takes you to the what if. It is a love story between Amara and Zander, a man who can only count the days until he is free to rescue the woman who he has only met online. I was completely drawn into Amara and Zander’s story. The characters were believable, with very good descriptions of the story. It was easy to see the book play in my mind as I read it. I would definitely recommend reading Until Then, but please remember with any book, you should check the trigger warnings‼️ I read this book as an advanced copy and give my honest review. Seriously, read this book!📚
Check your triggers, Until Then has many, but wow, this was a very satisfying dark romance. The vigilante justice served makes my dark, trauma survivor heart so happy! I loved that Amara was able to trust Zander and find friendship with Diego despite the many horrors she faced. I feel like the feelings around eating after being fat shamed and the fawn response Amara experienced aren't talked about often in society, so it's nice to see it accurately represented in the book and see how her friends help her through that trauma.
This was the first book I read by Emily and I must say, I was NOT disappointed in the slightest. From the get go, it's so easy to become attached to Amara and feel so deeply for her. The horrors she went through were immense, but her ability to push through and survive gives the greatest sense of hope and pride. Zander is the kind of man any girl dreams of having, his fierce love and protection over Amara knows no bounds. I was so sucked in, I finished the book in a matter of hours! I highly recommend the read, and I can't wait to dive into more of Emily's books.
Emily has a knack for drawing you in and keeping you focused. I haven’t read a book this fast since I first read Colleen Hoover. When I wasn’t reading, I was thinking of Amara and Zander. While there are many triggers with this book, they are important topics that don’t get talked about often enough.
Emily started writing to help with her anxiety and hopes that her writing helps talk about taboo subjects in today’s society. This is the type of writer we need with all that society has deemed taboo.
Im going to start out by saying CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS! I myself have none and thoroughly enjoy the darker romances so I loved this book and read it in one day! Zander was a great morally grey mc and the spice was on point!. The only issues I had is that I felt the trauma was resolved to quickly considering everything that was done to amara in the story. I found myself thoroughly involved in both mc and their stories which made it so much better!
Wow! My first ARC and wow. This was dark dark - I wish we got some more letter between Zander and Amara I feel like this would help build the relationship between them for the readers. Zander is amazing, the most caring big bad man. Poor Amara, I can’t believe how many times this girl gets assaulted - I also wish we got a little more trauma and healing journey she seemed so unaffected in a lot of ways. Overall it was a good dark read and I would recommend. 💋

Holy Shit!!! I’ve always been a firm believer when you get life you should be treated the way you treated the victim. And did my man Tyrone deliver!!!! I need a book based on him!! The depps of hell Amara travels through is heartbreaking but her penpal Zander keeps her sane. I seriously couldn’t get enough of this book!! Read the triggers before you dive in so there’s no sneak attack. But I promise you won’t be disappointed

This was my first book by this amazing writer, but it won't be my last! She writes about hard subjects, but she does a wonderful job of it and doesn't leave anything out. This book doesn't leave you wondering what happened off page. Five stars isn't good enough for the emotional roller coaster of reading this!
I stumbled upon the ARC signups randomly in a book group I’m apart of on Facebook and was immediately drawn to Emily and her book. This is the first book I’ve read by her, but certainly not the last.
Smut, abuse, rape, and beautiful vengeance. Yummy!
The book follows Amara, a girl caught in an abusive relationship with a very powerful man who helps keep a trafficking scene rolling behind closed doors. Her only escape? Secret emails with an inmate named Zander and boy, do they treat each other so well. Hopping on parole early, Amara and Zander finally meet, and sparks are as hot as they were in their emails. Amara finds sanctuary with Zander and his friends, and the two are so in love it’s so adorable.
The vengeance that Amara gets in the end was honestly my favorite part. You know. Besides the amazing smut.
I’ve read some pretty dark smut, and this was dark, but not too dark that you have to keep cringing and need a break. I ate this book up in two days, which is rare for me. I look forward to my next read from Emily.

Dark, Gritty, full of harsh truths about the world we live in. Wonderfully written. Characters are wonderfully likable and very much hated!!! Know going in that the content is very dark and sometimes hard to get through emotionally so be aware of your triggers. Definitely stories that need to be told. Thank you for being the voice victims need!!! #calltyrone
Holy hell!! I absolutely love Zander & Amara, my heart broke for her throughout their entire story. HOWEVER, Zander is giving Zaddy vibes and I am HERE FOR IT. The emotional rollercoaster I went on through out this book was so worth it in the end. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
It was fast but with all the details. It was a little hard to keep up with just for timeline purposes but even then it still flowed together perfectly.
Wow! What an amazing read! I am so glad I found this author! One she is amazing and is quick to send out new stuff but she also tackles the grittiness of real life. She is not afraid to delve into the dark recesses of the world where people don’t want to acknowledge. Human trafficking and rape are words that trigger lots of people but it is definitely something that should not be brushed under the rug…victims should never be made to feel as though they are at fault. I adore Amara’s and Zander’s story…it was real. Was it sunshine and roses? No, was it a roller coaster of emotions on crack on a creaky bridge? Yes! But guess what, it felt real, it felt relatable, it felt like if someone that victimized could survive, then maybe there is hope for the world. We need better options for survivors. We need to get them the help they need. We need to be that support system. Diego and Eliza are freaking amazing! Some of my favorites!! Tyrone! Hilarious! How they interrogate, classic! Know that this is dark, this is gritty, this is real. Know your triggers and be forewarned before but if there are none, do yourself a favor and read this! So good!!
Emily Klepp deserves a standing ovation for this book. As a survivor of SA this has been the most accurate depiction of the thoughts I personally went through.
I read this book in a day and I couldn’t get enough so I read it again.
Amara’s thought and feelings just flew off the page and was so well written. This is a book where you feel like you’re there with them!
Please read the trigger warnings because this book is brutal.
This book gives the down right truth to what survivors go through! While Amara and Zander were AMAZING Tyrone has to be my favourite character. The way he gets his answers had me laughing like a hyena!
I am going down the rabbit hole of Emily Klepps books and I couldn’t be happier!
I’m giving this is 2 star because personally for me, I found a lot of the things in this book didn’t really make sense to me and I thought that they were more cringey than anything.
I think this book would’ve been a three or four star for me if the relationship between her and Zander would’ve been slightly different. I didn’t think their relationship was much different than what was actually happening to her … especially when he punished her in front of other people. I thought that was very weird for someone like her that’s just been through a lot. Like she was very traumatized, but he was doing similar things with her, was just very offputting to me.
This book was definitely controversial. I’m all for some dark smut if under the correct circumstances, but this one just fell short for me. I feel as though the FMC’s PTSD was extremely selective, it was also not portrayed well through the writing. I have not personally experience anything like this, but I can imagine someone who was being sex trafficked wouldn’t be fine to just have sex again a week after her last gangbang. I also found it a little messed up that she trusts the MMC so easily after what was done to her.
