"Through the Blur" offers an enthralling expedition into a contemporary realm with mythological beings, delivering an experience that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The narrative's swift alternations between perspectives infused the plot with a palpable sense of mystery, ensuring the storyline remained both engaging and unpredictable.

This action-filled tale masterfully weaves significant dilemmas concerning familial ties into its fabric, steering towards a resolution that was satisfying for me.

I wholeheartedly recommend this novel to anyone in search of an unconventional thriller adventure.

It's the second book I read by Yolanda Sfetsos and something tells me it's going to be my favorite of hers for a while. Greek mythology, contemporary setting, family secrets and mystery, a hint of sapphic romance and fated lovers, there's nothing I don't like in any of these. The prose flows effortlessly, captivating me from beginning to end. The themes of grief and injustice are well woven into the plot and made me root for the characters in a way I didn't expect.

5 stars, plain and simple.

Through the Blur is written by Yolanda Sfetsos, and it is my first book by this author. I knew that Yolanda wrote horror, but I didn’t know she also dabbled in fantasy! I went into this book blind, expecting horror, but I was pleasantly surprised at what I found.

Peg, still reeling from her sister's mysterious and traumatic disappearance, is trying to hold it together. Her mom has become a shell of her old self, rambling on and on about things that don’t make sense. Peg has the uncanny ability to read playing cards like a stack of tarot cards. She also has this ominous shadow that is always following her around, in the corners of her sight, ready to sink in on her when her emotions are uncontrolled.

When Chrysa wakes in a place she does not recognize, she struggles to understand where she is and how she got there. Where is her family? What is this place? Danger looms around every corner.

The book is focused on Peg’s POV, but it also includes the POV of her sister, Chrysa. As the story slowly begins to unfurl, you are entirely in the dark about what is going on. Yolanda gives you just enough information to keep you flipping those pages without revealing anything significant that would ruin the surprises. Without giving anything away, I loved the use of mythological characters, and the storyline was great. She kept me wondering, and I threw out guesses constantly, slowly connecting the dots as the story progressed. It was a fun read, and I look forward to reading more from Yolanda in the future.

Thank you to Yolanda Sfetsos for gifting me an eARC of Through the Blue. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m a sucker for a story built around mythology—which is exactly what Yolanda Sfetsos’ novel, THROUGH THE BLUR has done. This fantasy/thriller is jam-packed with a cast of characters torn right out of my well-thumbed edition of A TREASURY OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY that I used to pour over as a kid. Sfetsos has taken those characters and woven them into a tale of family drama, loss and growth. There will be no spoilers in this review so I’ll just say that you’re sure find one of your favorites here.

As for the writing, Sfetsos style is spare, to the point, with just enough heat to satisfy. I particularly liked the way in which she sprinkled her other-worldly Blur realm throughout. And c’mon. Who doesn’t like the idea of a deck of cards with all the answers. If you’re looking for a book filled with fantasy, drama and page-turning twists and turns, THROUGH THE BLUR will fit the bill.

I really liked this! I didn't read any reviews before I started it, so I had no idea Greek mythology would play a role in this tale, so that was a wonderful surprise. This is a great story that incorporates myth, loss, growth, kind of everything and it's put together really well. Peg was brilliant. Suffer the Darkness is still my favourite by this author but Through The Blur is a close second.

An intriguing exploration of love and loss. The seemless blend of horror, fantasy, mythology (and a dash of mystery) was very well executed.
