This was more Shades of the Rainbow than Shades of Grey, and I'm not complaining.
Normally with books like this, I'm apprehensive-- complicated internal workings that I am okay with domination, but don't like misogyny. So at first, I was worried, but I read about it and thought this would be different, and I wasn't disappointed when I got the chance to read through it. It isn't a single spectrum of the experience of people into BDSM-- it isn't always through the eyes of the dominant, or the dominated. I like that it switches between, as well as the fact that it isn't only straight couplings, which aren't a preference of mine. It was nice to see that a collection of stories such as this can be open to such a wide sampling of people-- to show that this sort of play isn't just for rich white men who own their own planes or something, but that polyamorous people, or the gay and lesbian community, also partake. There's a whole subculture dedicated to this sort of life, and though some of the stories didn't appeal to me, some of them were-- wow. They were special.
I don't even need to tell you that the stories were extraordinarily hot, either. Definitely worth reading, if you're into that sort of thing-- or even curious about it.
I got this book for free from Good Reads FirstReads.
