Her platform boots vs his boy band past. Let the music battle begin.
Rain Sinclair, the troubled daughter of the late rock legend Stitch, lives in the shadow of her father’s musical genius. Her life is under constant scrutiny by tabloids, and her reputation teeters on the edge of ruin. But when a drunken social media mishap catches the attention of pop idol Billie St. James, Rain’s management—despite her persistent resistance to collaboration—sees it as an opportunity to help her out of her latest publicity fiasco.
Billie St. James, once a member of the popular boy band, is now forging a path as his own artist. He just finished his first solo tour and is prepared to write another album, even if his muse is quiet. When an unexpected opportunity to collaborate with the daughter of iconic Stitch—whom Billie worships—arises, he can't believe his luck. The possibilities of the magic Billie can create together with Rain Sinclair consume his thoughts.
However, as Billie meets Rain for the first time, he realizes that her difficult reputation is not unfounded. She is irresponsible, disrespectful, infuriating, and impossible to work with.
Unfortunately, it's too late. The media frenzy surrounding their unexpected pairing becomes overwhelming. Neither Rain nor Billie can afford to back out of the project. Now, they must navigate the complexities of fame, trust, and their own inner demons as they embark on this intense, musical journey.
**#MICDROP is a standalone enemies to lovers romance with a bickering couple and a healthy dose of steam. Please be this book deals with subjects some readers may find sensitive/triggering.
N.N. Britt is a Los Angeles-based music journalist and photographer. Her photos have graced T-shirts, billboards, and CD covers. She pens realistic, thought-provoking novels about today's world of art and music and the flawed people who live in it. When she's not writing or drinking coffee, she's probably reading or attending a heavy metal show.
"My heart inexplicably starts to pound. I've never been this physically near her before with no room to run. She's always kept me at an icy distance. Now we're cramped in this tiny closet and I’m suddenly aware of her in a completely different way."
#Micdrop is a standalone, enemies to lovers (my kryptonite), rockstar/popstar romance, with our MCs from different sides of the tracks - Rain Sinclair, troubled rockstar's daughter, lost in memories of the past and desperate to come out of her dad's shadow and Billie St. James, ex-boyband member, now solo artist, looking for a fresh start and a new spark.
When these two get put together to record a collaboration piece, the sparks well and truly fly!
I absolutely loved it, such a change of pace from my usual reads and so engagingly written too.
I could not put this one down. It was one of those books where you just find yourself immersed in the story. The first time I looked I was 75% through and sad most of the story had gone! Billie and Rain - so different but so similar - this is their story filled with emotion, arguments and making up! It was not an easy journey as they both had their problems but you are given a satisfying HEA. Plus download the bonus scene to see where they are a year later. I would love more from these two!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Rain and Billie's journey pulled me right in! All it takes is one moment to shake things up, something Rain is familiar with, after a certain social media moment brings Billie into her world. As these two artists collide, it isn't going to be easy. Will they find something beautiful together and musically in the process? Or were they doomed from the start?
I didn't know what all to expect which got me even more into it. I love a good rockstar story and its enemies to lovers! Both Rain and Billie had me feeling so much with them from start to finish! I couldn’t put this down! I really enjoyed the way these two were brought into each other's lives.i loved the depth we got to go in to the characters, both going through so much and the raw realness it brought got me. I went through a roller coaster of emotions with both the MMC and FMC!
With #MICDROP, N.N. Britt has created such an anmazing enemies to lovers read that had me feeling all the feels! 💜🎙🎶
Be sure to read the author's note about the content.
What happens when a former boyband member and a chaotic, angry singer of heavy rock is forced to write a song together? It gets messy in the best of ways.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, especially seeing the character development. Both Rain and Billie were such interesting characters. The author did such an amazing job portraying their struggles. I literally felt them bleed through the pages. I really bought into their rockstar personas.
The tension between them were so good. You could almost feel it while reading. When they finally succumbed to it, it was so satisfying. In terms of spice, there is some, but the focus of the book is on the development between the characters. It’s not the kind of book to be read for the spice alone, but rather for the story and this is a story worth reading.
The only minus in my opinion was that the middle was a little slow paced and things were resolved a bit easily towards the end. I would have liked more out of the ending.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes rockstar romances. Especially if you enjoy stories were the characters have emotional baggage from the past that they have to overcome.
This is a story with realistically complex characters that N. N. Britt has an uncanny ability to create.
From the get go, I started off not liking Rain but then the more I read the more I realized that deep down there were issues that she manifested by showing anger and hostility towards those around her. It was a facade, a survival instinct. She was having to deal with living in her famous late father’s shadow and all the expectations that came with as well as having to prove herself as a rock star on her own talent and merit. Throw in an absent mother with her own self destructive behavior issues and my heart went out to Rain. Having the collaboration with former boy band member Billie (going solo) was the best thing to happen even though she didn’t want to collaborate.
Billie had his own “pit” of emotions that he dealt with but despite that he was the sunshine to Rain’s grumpy. I loved the evolution of their relationship and the underlying chemistry between the two was evident. When Rain’s traumatic experience came to light Billie showed his protective side and had my heart.
This is a beautifully written story that I wholeheartedly recommend!
I have loved this author’s rock romances for a long time now and I have to say that she hasn’t lost a beat. Rain was a character I loved to hate with her attitude and sassy mouth. She is living in the shadow of her deceased rock star father. Billie was a part of a boy band and had struck out on his own and idolized Rain’s father.
These two were explosive together and you wondered if they would ever be able to collaborate on a song. We find out that both has issues to get past and their road to get their HEA was a rollercoaster ride.
This was a book that I couldn’t down and I cannot wait to see what this author has coming next.
First DNF I've ever had. This FMC is a p.i.t.a. I couldn't stand her angry, negative attitude. She poisons the air around her. I was yelling "Get over yourself already" at every page turn. Only made it about 30% through the book, and I just can't continue. Angry rock daughter of a rock legend is forced to create a collab with an aging out boy band member and she makes it clear she's angry and annoyed and that she's better than him. And that continues on every, single, page.
I wish I could give this book more than 5 Stars! OK ... rockstars are my kryptonite, but this one is so different from all the rest. First if all, it's the female lead character that is the hard to deal with, ragey, over the top rockstar. Secondly, the male lead character is from a boy band and doesn't even swear. I really didn't like Rain at first, I found her to be very self centered and that she thought she was above everyone else ... but once I got to know her back story, I kinda felt sorry for her. I loved Billie, even though he was selling out stadiums, he wanted to write with Rain. I loved the way he fanboyed! Billie had to put up with a lot from Rain ... I don't know any guys that would put up with what he did. I went through all the emotions with this book ... I laughed, I cried, I swooned and I said WTF many times! I only wish we got a little more backstory on his boy band days.
Rain's father is a rock legend. He's been dead for ten years and Rain is still trying to live up to the Sinclair name. One drunken night, she accidentally tweets that she would love to co-write a song with Billie ... she didn't really mean to send the tweet, especially to the Pop Prince. But when a reporter files a lawsuit against her for hitting him, her PR team tells her she needs good press and writing a song with Billie is just the thing she needs. Not according to her!
Billie was in a boy band and had all the right moves. But when the band breaks up, he decides to embark on a solo career. His first solo album sounds just like the boy band he was in and makes him feel fake. When he gets a tweet that Rain Sinclair wants to work with him, he knows that this is exactly what he needs. Her father was a big influence on him getting into music and he's kinda fanboying. Everyone close to him is telling him that she's trouble and will end up ruining his career ... just like she is doing to own career. Billie knows that the song they write will be epic and he'll do anything to work with her.
Firstly, I would like to thank the author for letting me read an advanced copy of their story. The plot itself is really interesting and drew me in immediately. With that being said, there were several things I found wrong, or hard to read about this book.
-It is extremely slow. I know many people enjoy a slow burn story, but it was a struggle at times to keep reading further without much advancement happening in the plot. -There are several grammar errors throughout. Typically, if there are only a couple errors, I can look past it, but there were many throughout the entire book, and it is extremely distracting trying to correct it as I read. One of my biggest pet peeves- quotation marks around words that aren't being spoken- happened a few times, and it drove me nuts. -The FMC is a horrid character, and so hard to get behind. She treats the MMC horribly, and he just takes it. Of course, reading the entire story, we find out why she acts the way she does, but it doesn't make her any more likeable in my opinion. I also can't stand how degrading she is throughout the book, and consistently puts down the MMC for no reason. -There are several terms used ("vox", "camp", etc) throughout the story that just aren't explained. Not everyone who reads the story will know what these mean without a small explanation. -The cursing. Now, I typically have no problem with using curse words in writing, but it is so excessive in this book that it just takes away from the plot. And the way the FMC calls the MMC such awful things when he is literally the nicest character in the book also makes this a difficult read. -The tweets. They were extremely repetitive, and nearly always saying the same thing in every chapter they were in. It would have been better if these were cut back a bit, or even if they weren't included at all.
I didn't hate this story, but there are certainly better enemies to lovers books out there. I don't even think this can count as enemies to lovers, because the MMC never truly saw the FMC as an enemy. I think with some editing, it could be better.
This is a great story about two fantastic characters who couldn't be more opposite but somehow work when they come together. Rain Sinclair, daughter of a rock and roll legend, trying to live up to her father's image as she finds her way in the music scene producing gritty, angry rock music, sees her name amongst a fantasy list of duet matches on X and responds that she's in and up for the challenge late one night, mistakenly tagging the wrong artist. Billie St James, former boy bander now solo artist, beloved by teenagers for his pop anthems, struggling to find direction for his second solo album sees this collaboration with Rain as exactly what he needs to be taken seriously as a musician. From their first meeting the sparks fly and as they get to know each other, as they hash out this song writing exercise, we get to know both of them and their struggles in life. These two are such different personalities, and while Rain doesn't want to be doing this, she needs an image cleanse, so they clash, and fight, and walk out on each other, but the chemistry is undeniable and the passion spills over and into their song writing, producing a raw, angsty number that goes viral becoming a huge hit. This is a very emotional and angst filled read, these two will give you whiplash as they succumb to the passion and then push each other away repeatedly as their romance builds out of the public eye, while their musical collaboration plays out over socials. These characters were so different, but I loved them both and thought they were a good fit despite the ups and downs and the emotional minefield they needed to wade through to get to a good place. Not a lighthearted read, but one that is definitely worthwhile and I enjoyed it.
Wow, I devoured this book. It is not your usual rockstar romance story. #MicDrop is an addicting journey of two polar opposite rock stars that ended up collaborating together, even though they wish they wouldn’t. Rain does not care and o oh wants to make her music and disassociate from her father’s career. However, she is not painted nicely in the media what so ever. She needs all the positive PR she can get, which means her social media mishap leads to having to work with Billie. Billie is trying to ditch his boy name persona and make his own music and this collab is something he wants until he realizes Rain is really as difficult to work with and be around as his heard. These two constantly buttheads and throw jabs at each other until that spark starts to ignite. Rain and Billie are explosive, but the journey they take you on is not one for the faint of heart and this is not all happy heart melting sweep you off your feet moments. This story is takes us through the darkness and pain these two have experienced in their life and their fight to move one and make it out through the light. I loved every minute of these book. You never know which way these characters will go and you’ll be on the edge of your seat until the very end.
N. N. Britt’s #MICDROP: A Standalone Enemies to Lovers Romance is between rock legend Stitch’s recalcitrant daughter Rain Sinclair, and Billy St. James, one-time boy bander to solo artist decides to collaborate a duet for the record label. Rain’s fiery temper, which matches her personality, hides scars from neglect and hurts that no one cared to know until a confident Billy St. James invades her life. They find a rhythm; as they find a new voice and message, they translate into a duet. Once they give into the sparks that flare between them, they begin on a journey to find happiness that will either work or epically fail. Can Rain tether her impulsivity to lash out and hurt others enough to be in a real love relationship? Billy can survive Rain and all the disrespect she spews out without regard for consequences. N.N. Britt writes raw emotions that emulate real life so that her books are not without pain or hurt but how her characters rise above and go on with their lives—guaranteed HEA with no cheating to result in #Micdrop being a memorable rockstar romance that will linger long after the reader closes the last page.
Mic Drop by N. N. Britt is a captivating rockstar romance that blends music, passion, and personal growth. It follows two artists—one a pop star, the other a heavy metal singer—whose lives collide, sparking creativity, tension, and undeniable chemistry.
The writing is smooth and engaging, pulling you into the chaotic, emotional world of music-making. I loved how the story dives into the creative process, showing the ups and downs of collaboration. However, I found myself wishing for the actual lyrics to the song they were working on, which felt like a missed opportunity to deepen the experience.
The romance builds naturally, simmering beneath their shared passion for music. What stood out to me was the subtle yet meaningful focus on mental health. It touches on the pressures of fame and the toll it takes, adding a layer of authenticity to the story. I would have liked to see more of this, but even as a secondary theme, it was impactful.
Overall, Mic Drop is a beautifully written, emotionally rich story with great characters and an addictive plot. If you love rockstar romances and stories that explore the heart of creativity, this book is for you.
Firstly I want to thank N.N. Britt for the opportunity to review this, secondly where can I send my therapy bill this was filled with the perfect balance of emotions that keeps you wanting more. Rain is a troubled individual with more baggage than Heathrow and Billie is a ex boy band member trying to break free of his boyband image into something a bit more him.
I was hooked from the get go, the plot, the backstory, the characters all made me keep coming back for more until I was so close to the finish I didn’t want it to end! I found myself wanting to know more of their relationship, and what happens next, admittedly I did download the bonus scene which curbed that craving ever so slightly.
Rain certainly didn’t treat anyone in this book with any form of respect and you kinda hate to love her, but the more you realise why she is this way the more you love her, and I think she found Billie at the right time, granted their journey isn’t all sun and rainbows but it was a necessary journey to find themselves wanting each other.
And the mental health representation in this was alright, Billie obviously has his struggles and has his own coping mechanisms like putting it all into is work but finally giving in and agreeing to see someone was heart-warming. I would love to have see more with his past with Karousel and his relationship with Vega.
For fans of Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Rockstar X Popstar, Slow Burn Romances!
This is my first book by N.N. Britt and I’m a fan. #Micdrop is addictive and full of complex characters. I’m just really getting into the rockstar genre but this is unlike what I’ve read so far. Both the main characters had their own internal issues they had to work through. Rain being the daughter of a deceased rock legend has stayed in the headlines in a negative way. She’s used to rocking solo and does not do collabs. After a drunken night on social media she gets herself into a collab with Billie, who is a boy band alumni who recently went solo. This was a nice slow burn that was perfect in leading up to them finally giving into their wants and needs. I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down. The way she wrote this makes you feel like you personally know Billie and Rain and rooting for them to work their 💩 out. This is an emotional rollercoaster I’m glad I got the chance to ride. The plot was 🤌🏼 with just the right amount of spice. I will 100% be downloading more of her books. Highly recommend!!
I could not put this book down, I read until my eyes grew too heavy too keep open or I would have stayed awake all night!
Right from the start, the push and pull that Rain and Billie had was intense and extreme. The chemistry bounced off of the pages. People say there is a fine line between love and hate and this is the case for these two. It would also go to say that opposites attract, but the more you read, you see the change in Billie, seemingly allowing himself to be who he is deep inside.
I love that NN Britt didn't shy away from the challenges of stardom, we can see that even celebrities have troubles with families, friends, their jobs, relationships. And just like anyone else, they can have struggles with their mental health, and being visible to so many people constantly can weigh on a person.
I definitely recommend this to anyone that likes slowburn, enemies to lovers, forced proximity stories. The added rockstar plot made it interesting and the steamy scenes did not disappoint when they finally happened!
Rockstar romance is one of my favorite tropes and I was anxiously waiting for another one from NN Britt. That being said, enemies to lovers is hard for me so I was a little worried about connecting with Rain. Billie caught my attention right away. I loved the originality of their story. Nat's take on the world is always really interesting to me. I felt all the feelings. Their story is deep and meaningful while being balanced with banter and humor that made me giggle. Some of what Rain said had me smirking and Billie had me swooning. There is subject matter that Nat handles with care but demands attention from the reader. Those moments made me take pause and really listen to what she was telling us readers through Billie and Rain. It took me a little bit to settle in to the pace of the story but once I did I really really enjoyed it! Definitely recommend!
Rain and Billie, two very different singers, are going to do a collaboration, creating a song together.
Rain is... difficult on purpose, she's angry with the world and shows It in any possible way. I have contradictory feelings with her, I empathize with her but don't agree in how she deals with some questions.
Billie is, in a way, trying to find himself. He's a pop star that has issues as everyone in the "real" world. He's an ok guy.
In the story we can see the non-glamorous part of the music business, with the legal stuff, the diffamations, betrayals, difficult people to work with. It is, in a way, a dose of reality.
A good read if you want to ser behind all of the glamour with some reality checks.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
It took me awhile to get into this book, i found it very slow, not much going on. Rain the the lead female character is very immature and isn't likeable, i get she has issues but she behaved with attitude towards Billie who himself had issues but didn't lash out, he just shut himself away. Two damaged and troubled souls who find each other at the height of their fame. Apart from them collabarating on a song i didn't find this gripping, it didn' have any grit that held my attention. Having read this authors previous books i found this lacking the same intensity and depth.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A superb enemies to lovers read! This book is what happens when you match up an angry, chaotic metal artist, living in her Fathers shadow and a clean, safe, ex-boyband member - the sparks fly. Working on a collaboration sees them navigate their very different personalities whilst also acknowledging and navigating their growing, explosive, attraction. The story is very well written, at a good pace to allow us to see the relationship develop fully. The character development is superb, especially that of the FMC, where the MMC allows her to be seen without the shadow of her Father. A highly recommended read!!
Enjoyed Rain and Billies story. Rain grew up as the daughter of a famous model and rock star, losing her dad at a young age. She learned to play guitar at a young age and began writing songs early on. Billie was part of a pop boys band and ended up going out on his own when the band broke up. He and Rain get together to write a song as a duo and perform it. Rain is pretty messed up, but she and Billie click and there are many up and downs in their relationship. You wonder if they will ever truly be happy and by the end of the book both characters have finally found love. Like books written by this author and will read more by her.
This was such a great enemies to lovers, opposites attract, rockstar romance. I couldn't put it down! The relationship between the two MC was so dramatic and chaotic, but almost typical of what I would envision a relationship with superstars would be. The characters in the book were likeable and well thought out. The storyline well executed and seamless. I read it in a few hours and didn't want to put it down to sleep. Britt did a wonderful job with this one. I look forward to seeing what else she can come up with. Will be recommending.
WOW, what a trainwreck that is Rain Sinclair!! I was really getting tired of her antics, the way she talked/yelled/swore at people - I almost couldn't go on - BUT, I am so glad I did. Not that she didn't have an easy life, she did grow up in the lap of luxury - but, she lost her famous father, suddenly, at a young age; her mother spiraled out on control, and never accepted the loss. Rain lives in Stitch's shadow, constantly feeling like she doesn't measure up - until she meets Billie St. James.... he is what she didn't know she needed, or wanted.
They collaborate on a duet - a new concept for them both - the chemistry is off the charts - they give in to the mutual attraction - the duet is a success - but Rain's demons won't go away, she comes clean with a event from her past, involving her father's best friend - the fact that she hasn't dealt with it, and Billie wants her to confront it and him, drives a wedge between them.
With the pair not talking to the other, the relationship is in the tank, and so is their collective futures in the music industry.
Someone has to bite the bullet and deal with the fallout.
I enjoyed this enemies to lovers rock star romance. It did take me some time to warm up to both the mmc and the fmc but that quickly fixed itself and I started flying through it. Recommend to those who enjoy ✅ rock star romance ✅ slow burn chemistry with spice ✅ a ´good guy ‘ mmc and a ‘bad girl’ fmc that balance each other out ✅ a good female grovel scene ✅ A cinnamon roll mmc who is actually a dirty talking alpha under the sheets
N.N. Britts rock, enemies to lovers romance #Micdrop is a beautiful high drama story. From Rain who's full of anger to Billie the happy go lucky former boy band and a drunken tweet to bring them together. As much as this book is amazing I so wish that the song lyrics were included to bring us closer to what the characters are going through. #Micdrop will be a memorable music romance that will stick with you
I really enjoyed the premise of this book! Having two completely different artists collaborate was fun and pulled me into the story. I instantly enjoyed Billie's character! He is extremely likeable and I enjoyed the chapters from his perspective. I will say that Rain is much more complex, and although she wasn't always likeable, she was interesting to read about. This book was probably a little longer than it needed to be, but I still had a good time reading it!
While I found the attitude of the FMC to be unbecoming of an adult, I did enjoy the book. Rain is the daughter of a rock legend who's shadow she can't escape and Billie is a former boy band member beginning a solo career. Rain's Dad - Stitch - died prematurely and her mother Gia went off the rails and wasn't a parent to her young daughter. Ellis is Rain's manager and substitute parent figure. Good story. Glad Rain grew up a bit.
It is a very slow burn type of book but I honestly love that. I was hooked on Rain’s story from the very beginning - she’s moody and complicated and it’s kinda awesome. Billie is definitely easy to love from the very beginning. Will definitely read more of N.N. Britt!
Favorite Quote: “I feel her presence like a live wire next to me, setting my nerves on edge, and part of me is relieved that she’s decided to leave, but part of me doesn’t want her to go.”
dnf at 11% because they’re both irritating me, mainly her. she is almost thirty acting like a spoiled brat and her whole attitude is “i’m not like other girls” bro it’s so irritating. and the way their appearance is described it’s terrible. i can’t get an accurate read on what they’re supposed to look like. why does he have a lip ring and why is her hair white and purple. i just couldn’t finish bro.
This is definitely one for the slow burn lovers! luckily, i am one of those. This one I was pulled in from the get go. it tugged on heartstrings while also enraging them. I am happy to say that it is a HEA but there a bit of a road to get there!!
