I have had the privilege of being the student of this author when I was in high school and when I got the opportunity to read a published book that she’d written I couldn’t order it fast enough. Normally poetry isn’t really my thing so I don’t have much to compare this book to, but this was such a delight to read. This was a collection of short poems about life and just the things that could make you happy. My favorite two poems in this book were “How Many Seconds Do You Need?” and “Like a Girl”. I felt like all the poems throughout the book, but these especially just sat with me and I could connect with them. Plus, I strongly resonate with the word “mehtivation” and I think it sums up how it feels to try and muster motivation when you just don’t want to and you feel indifferent about a task. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book of poems and I’m glad that Melanie got the chance to share her words with the world. I would highly recommend reading this book!
