How could a loving God allow something as evil as the Holocaust to happen? Those who believe in Messiah Jesus must be able to answer this question, especially when witnessing to Holocaust survivors or other people who have experienced the unimaginable. Messianic Jewish author Dr. Barry Leventhal meticulously guides his readers through a biblical chain of reasoning that portrays the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as both purely loving and steadfastly faithful to the covenants He made with Israel. It is within these covenants that one finds the answer to one of life’s most difficult questions.
Dr. Barry Robert Leventhal (1943-2022) obtained a B.S. in Secondary Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1966. In addition to his studies, Barry was co-captain of UCLA’s 1966 Rose Bowl winning football team. He furthered his education at Dallas Theological Seminary, earning a Th.M. in 1972 and a Ph.D. in 1982. His master's thesis, "The Establishment of a Christian Family Life Center," was followed by his doctoral dissertation, titled "Theological Perspectives on the Holocaust." Where Was God? is based on the latter, making Dr. Leventhal's comprehensive work on the challenging topic of theodicy available to scholars and laymen alike.
