First, the cover design of the hardcover is beautiful.
Second, I loved it. My first book on spellcraft and it basically told me everything I need to know, for the basics.

The book is devided into two parts.
Part I is an introduction into spell-/manifestation work that covers all the basics. It's about 100 pages long.
Part II is made up of the spells categorized by topics.

I like that there aren't that much appliances needed for the different spells. For some you do need a few more things, but nothing over the top and for others you don't need anything at all, you're just visualizing.

I seriously would recommend this to anybody who is interested in manifesting things in general and open to new things. Even if you don't consider yourself a witch (btw it just means 'the wise one' and aren't we all wise), because it's kept rather low key.

I recently decided that I wanted to delve more seriously into spellwork and all things Wiccan. I bought this book because I wanted ideas for good beginner spells. I think the beginning which gives a background on focusing your energies and the different methods of performing spells is great. The second half of the book consists entirely of simple spells for all types of things. It lists ideas for what you can do to help improve your spells as well as ingredients you could use when doing them. Overall I think this is a great starting place for someone who is looking to just get into spellwork but I am also open to any ideas!

I really enjoyed The Modern Witchcraft Spellbook. Having read several spell books, what I really enjoyed about this one was the clear guide on how to create your own spells in an easy to read chart form. The author also used feng shui and universal law principals to further empower you with success during spell work.

2023 EDIT: Part of my 2023 clear-up, of books I no longer like, or am no longer interested in, or remember well as standing out, or find as special anymore, or I otherwise will not miss.

Final Score: 3.5/5

Original Review:

A good contemporary spell book. Really, I was originally only attracted to the ridiculously pretty cover. Now that's what I call spellbinding! But the inside contains useful tips to improve your lifestyle and health, and bolster your self-confidence. Witch or not, or whether you identify and describe yourself as a witch in whichever sense, being a woman is a powerful, precious privilege.

'The Modern Witchcraft Spell Book: Your Complete Guide to Crafting and Casting Spells' is very basic, not especially deep or new for experienced witches and Wiccans (though it does skip over the history of witchcraft and "magick" and gets right down to the practicals). It also contains love spells, which is highly morally dubious for a modern text, even though the author assures readers that none of the spells in the book impinge on free will. And there's a spell on how to lose weight which borders on fat shaming.

But for a young beginner, 'The Modern Witchcraft Spell Book' can be an assuring life changer.

A cute, serene, spiritual, fun, okay read.

3.5* I appreciated the heavy intro in the first half of the book, where the author reviewed the various factors to consider when beginning or strengthening your craft, and covered a lot of bases a new practitioner would often have questions around. The astrological and planetary associations were a great touch, as were the references throughout regarding the importance of intention and mindset around magic and spellwork. I read Part 1 word for word and only flipped through the spell offerings in Part 2 (I'm a strong believer that the right recipies make themselves known as and when needed, rather than forcing the spellwork because it sounds cool to just try out). Low and behold, the most appropriate spell recipe for my current circumstances fell into my lap, literally, as the book slid out of my hand while reading and fell open to its page! Divine timing...

Books on witchcraft fascinate me. They feel like a throwback to the primitive medicine woman with her bags of herbs and potions.

Now I love bags of herbs and potions. I really do. I look to natural remedies for things related to me body and mind. But under no circumstance do I believe the dill seed attracts goods fortune, otherwise all pregnant women would be rich. Right?

Fascinating work, this business of witchcraft.

An amazing non-secular introduction to magick and spellcasting, everything from explaining what magick is and its exploration to ingredients and spells.

My favorite spells included are recipes! Definitely going to be giving them a try.

I was actually pleasantly surprised at the amount of helpful information in this book. Of this series thus far, I would recommend this as the one you read if you only read one. There is so much on correspondences and unique means to practice.

Skimmed, really. Long-winded and repetitive. Some of the spells have potential, though.

I do like that Alexander tries to discuss how a spellcaster can create their own spells that are personal to themselves, but I found it hard to connect to her written spells. While some seemed perfectly fine, many had (what seemed to me) rarer ingredients that might be harder to come by for the average witch/ person.

BEAUTIFULLY written! Skye Alexander has different views which in itself is beautiful. She talks about how magick is secular and can be done regardless of religion and lifestyle. That has given me hope and a new view if the craft in Christianity.

A few of these spells were comical and not realistic at all. I know this is for beginners, but alas, I am no beginner and I'm warning you to do more research before attempting potentially harmful "spells".

Good book just dnf due to the distracting layout. Text in boxes. Text on page. You read one paragraph then read it again because the box has thrown you off.

This was one of the first books I have read on witchcraft, looking back it was indeed helpful. although, the wiccan influence is very clear, which is not a problem tbh.

This was a really insightful book! The first half of the book is definitely geared towards newbie witches and was mostly review for me, but the last half of the book was what I really was focusing on. I think whether you are a newbie or experienced witch or Wiccan, you can definitely take something away from it. Skye Alexander definitely knows her stuff, and I found the spells and correspondences within this section of the book to be really helpful.

There are healing spells, protection spells, love spells, money spells and everything in between, so I definitely think it’s worth it to read this book for that alone, and I definitely recommend you pick this one up if you are a witch and just want another book to add to your collection!
