Ahhh...gets you in the feels
Yes, yes, yes, and yes to all of this. The cool part about this story is how the author just did a fantastic job of laying out the characters. Flaws and all. We truly had a sense of who they were as people, and the journey readers went on to their love and romance had some twists and sweet turns. There are times when a contemporary romance feels too worn through. Here, it was refreshing to see the mix. I liked the banter with the friends. It wasn't too heavy, and the deeper themes are often topics explored in Black households.
The cast of Characters:
✨Bree Bree is a great FMC. She has some vulnerabilities about her marriage and being a mother, and the frustrating scenes with her son and her description of being a mom are so accurate and true to life. Bree is out here hustling as a married, single mom (oof, the oxymoron is not lost on Bree). A woman who marries a shifty man spends a bit of time having to process whether she is married to a "wife-husband," a husband who acts more like a wife. And I oop!
✨Walt was a wonderful, refreshing MMC. He was smart, insightful, upfront, and most of all when homeboy goes all in....he GOES ALL IN! I loved that about him. He didn't waffle or pull back. Nah, he staked his claim and went for it.
✨Densie Essex deserves her well-earned kudos. She layered the hits in the story just perfectly, and even though I would have liked to explore some of those toxic issues more deeply, I enjoyed the ride and the read. It became an unputdownable story. I wanted to know with each page what was going to happen next. One of my little... ah moments happened at the very end. She features a true #BlackLove love story of a real-life couple.
