Basically Ark is the dumber little brother of Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. They've both got the poor player who's crazy about hard work and never running away from a fight while also being almost insanely greedy. Ark just happens to be less interesting.
I wanted a different genre style to read along with the LN I'm currently reading. Read a blurb for a ridiculous game setting story. I thought that one would work, but the story was really silly & over the top in a bad cartoon style. Asked friends for a good game setting rec & Ark was one of the Korean LN's that was recommended.
I like it! There's a decent amount of character & story progression. Interesting game mechs & an engaging MC. Kim Hyun Woo (the MC) is one of the stereotypical, Korean male tropes: iron will & hard work dedication will overcome almost anything.
The page count for the volumes are for Korean books. So, it's completely inaccurate for an English translation of the series. =P
By now I've read a ton of litRPGs and this one really doesn't shine above the rest for any particular reason, but it is still pretty enjoyable, and I love the litRPG genre. The japtem translation can be pretty awkwardly worded at times (but still great for fan translation), and cultural differences on what's interesting come into play, but usually, I read Korean/Japanese light novels with a generous filter anyway.
If you're looking for an interesting virtual reality piece to read, you're in the right place. Don't expect to be particularly inspired or moved by the content -- just amused and interested in the world. A fun little series to pass the time.
This is my first Korean light novel and overall the story is actually good. Sometimes I think Ark went too far on taking advantage of NPC and users but that what makes him interesting character. Looking forward to the sequel
